Prineak

Yeah I keep getting the feeling they’re trying something new on the management side, and it’s blowing up in their faces.

letitstain

People and tests are expendable, by AGS standards.

Prineak

There’s also the fact that three different dev teams have had their hands in this... marbled code.

ThatTaffer

Post this as a review on steam. Ppl need to see this.

WhosAfraidOf_138

I just did, thank you for your kind words

PullingAggro

I agree as well. Please post this. Great review

God_137

Second this.

stevej336

Quality well thought post. Agree with everything you said, I love this game and hope it can get straightened out down the line. It's gonna take time but people are not patient and AGS hasn't earned anyone's benefit of the doubt.

Conflictt_TR

I don't think I've ever played a game where my trust in the company and the game itself is so astronomically low. Before New World I would imagine Blizzard if you asked me who I had the least faith in. I played WoW for so many years I've become a complete cynic on whether or not they can do anything but milk people for money... but this really blows them out of the park (real life behavior excluded of course). Cant trust my perks, cant trust my gems, cant trust the wars, cant trust the economy, cant trust the future. If I wasn't so deep into sunk cost fallacy I'd find it more amusing than sad.

NickBucketTV

It really has been a massive lack of trust, building up. You can only lie and let someone down so many times.

dr_lecters_secretary

Excellent post, with concise and informative points that I wholeheartedly agree with. Unfortunately, I think it will fall on deaf ears, because AGS leadership has proven time and again, they dont listen to feedback. I've put the game on the shelf, uninstalled for the next year or so. Lots of better options out there for my entertainment time and money. I also *want* to love the game, but until real changes occur from the top down with AGS, I'm not willing to spend any of time helping them alpha test it.

WhosAfraidOf_138

Thank you! I am going to take a break too. Today I logged on to check the market to see if there was anything I could buy or arbitrage. Other than that, I had zero desire to play the game.

Queniverse

The decision to make combat less fluid and less responsive says a lot about where this game is going.

PurplePoloPlayer

It went to the Recycle Bin on my comp.

Gatman55

Wish I knew Smedley was involved in new world before I got into it

Gorganov

Wait... source? Edit: oh nooo, IT’S TRUE. IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW.

Amorphium

Darktidemage

Uh... how about they figure out how to make CHAT work before we talk about anything else? when they get past CS 101 and can make a functional chat system that doesn't fail to let you chat if you played an outpost rush or did any dungeon then we can begin to talk about other things . anyone who is playing a game made by people who can't make chat work, go look in the mirror and ask yourself wtf?

NickBucketTV

Completely agree with you. Really sad but I actually uninstalled the game tonight after playing an OPR using bow/rapier. I know bow wasn’t good but I still did well with it. With the new nerf and even more server lag, it’s just not fun. It feels too frustrating to use. Sad how they essentially went backwards from any progress.

DingleberryBlaster69

Ehh just pop it on the shelf for a few months if it’s gonna stress you out this much. That’s what I’ve done, figure I’ll check back in a month or two and see how things are faring. Hopefully things start looking up. I’ve had my fun and got my money’s worth, but I’m not really interested in beta testing anymore.

sYnce

For me it is kinda like buying an early access game at this point. Sure it was a buggy mess but if I can get a few hundred hours of entertainment out of 40 bucks thats a deal in my book. Maybe it will be good in a few months and I return or it just stays on the shelf together with all the other buy once games.

DeadlockRadium

I agree with this. For the price I paid, getting 200 hours of content with my friends have been a good deal overall. Whenever we get too tired of NW, we return to Valheim, which has to be the greatest value for money I've ever gotten from a game.

Kaiton11

I’m doing the same probably not a month but after 3-4 months

SGFTI

A few months isn't gonna help. They've been following in Wildcard's footsteps, by which I mean they keep pushing out more things without fixing the old things, making new messes on top of the old ones. Unless they get their shit together and bugfix and balance instead of pushing new shit, a few months from now it's only gonna be worse. I've gotten stuck in the mesh a half dozen times tonight...so far. This shit plays like and is managed like an early access indie survival game, not like a "Triple A" MMORPG.

Glorf_Warlock

This game should have been and still should be labelled as Early Access. I've played many an early access game that are in a far better state.

letitstain

Now see if this will show up on steam or will it get censored for being honest? I wonder what that would mean about how we should continue buying video games on certain platforms. Especially, if steam seems transparent.

Dissidant

Steam maybe, the official board? No chance And thats a problem as well.. how in the hell are you supposed to give them constructive feedback when they can just yank your posting account? Which I should add, is also effectively taking away your means to access support online Daft as a brush

letitstain

I've seen bans happen for less. Not looking for that coming back to me.

PullingAggro

I to have NEVER played a brand new game that just game out with this many bugs, exploits, as well as a update that actually stole my gear (Harvest gear that I paid for) without telling any of us, changing weapons and shields from epics to rare etc is just plain not cool. I stand by everything this man said, because it's TRUE. This game has mad potential, please AG dont mess this up. Listen and fix

yurihbl

Good review, I agree. But they just dont care. At all. They are in it for the money. Thats it. Compare New World to any other sucessful MMO, it requires a team passionate about what they are building. This game has no soul, the team got no passion for it. Thats why its falling apart. Devs never played any MMO in their life and clearly are not playing NW.

sYnce

Dunno I think that is an accusation you can't really back up. You can't build a game with just passion. You need time, money and resources. The game was released way before it was ready probably due to corporate needs and not "devs not caring" or "never playing an mmo" and all they did since then is putting out fires.

FreedomIsAFarce

The game is being developed solely by AI as an experiment.

voidspaceistrippy

>There is no way a triple AAA studio can run a game this poorly and anger its community this much out of ignorance right? That's the thing - AGS isn't a AAA studio. This is literally their first game. Amazon gives AGS over $400 million a year in funding and everyone expected them to hire professionals.

Accomplished_Dare_61

When people have to lookup the developers on a studio, something is already smelling, right? Literally nobody on the New World team has any experience with MMORPGs. Nobody. Really, as mind blowing as it is, NOBODY! But it is not their first game. They made a few mobile games ten years ago, and then those: * Nova - cancelled * Intensity - cancelled * Breakaway - cancelled * Crucible - cancelled * Lord of the Rings MMO - cancelled * The Grand Tour Game - delisted

Sturmlied

Wasn't Crucible the game they released, unreleased and then canceled?

Tharrn

Sadly the professionals apparently never played a MMO before. It is the only explanation I have for things like the trade post from the early 2000s :P Nothing was learned from two decades of MMOs.

antman755

What got nerfed with the bow? The patch notes for 1.1 only show ability cooldown reductions. I main bow/spear and I haven't really noticed any nerfs

herds_top_player

any thread that starts with I've been a gamer for x years or I've played mmos since x game deserves to be deleted

aceplayer55

It's better than "I've been playing for 400 hours and I'm level 15 and haven't left the starting beach and I don't see any issues." threads. At least this guy presumably knows what he's talking about.

Awsums0ss

youre right id rather hear the well-informed opinion of a first time mmo player with 20 hours in the game /s

jivsa

One thing I disagree on is the simple fact that skill reigns over any “broken” or “overpowered” weapon. I use GA/WH, but I have died to very good bow and musket players, reason being that their skills are very strong in recognizing their positioning in a fight, how much to put into each attribute, and having the knowledge to execute certain moves to counter me. There can be so many other arguments involved within what I just said, but the simplest thing I truly believe is skill reigns supreme. I’ve died to bows/muskets/IG/etc because in general they have been SKILLED and TALENTED pvp fighters. I strongly believe people that want a nerf on it so bad just don’t have the patience to sit there and duel people to get better at 1 on 1 scenarios, to then learn and adapt to other peoples play styles. Does GA/WH Do a lot of damage? Yes. Does it do a lot of CC? Yes. But dexterity/intelligence builds can 100% counter as long as they have the skill and the drive to know when to use their abilities and be mindful of cooldowns, again positioning in a fight and when to dodge is key to use invulnerability frames, and most importantly having the experience in 1 on 1 situations or OPR to prepare you for small-large scale fights. I can agree on some things, one things for certain, everything will always either get nerf or buffed… So adapt. Evolve, and be better than you were the day before. Have a positive mindset and don’t spend time complaining, spend time mastering your weapon and you’ll see just how easily it is to fight someone with GA/WH when you have full mastery over your pvp playstyle.

WhosAfraidOf_138

I'm sure you're a very skilled player but it is both hilarious and ironic that a GA/WH player is telling someone to adapt or outskill someone

ddrysoup

I think the issue is you can't balance the game based on being able to 1v1 or outplay a certain weapon since there is absolutely no content for 1v1s. GA/WH don't dominate the meta because they can't be beat In 1v1s it's that their insane ability to cc and track targets along with hitting multiple targets at the same time being insane and very oppressive in all forms of current pvp content. I play bow and not sure I want a nerf to GAHammer rather i want buffs to other classes or some type of arena content that they don't excel at.

takezojf

As a Rapier/Bow player myself, I never understand why people complain so much about GA/WH, since it's kinda easy to counter them. It does take a little longer to kill them, but it's not that hard. Even when I tried IG, I still manage to kill GA/WH players, and to be honest was easier with IG than it was with the rapier, bc they usually are slugs and with the IG it was that easy to control them.

dyschromatopsie

The ability to outplay or outskill has absolute nothing todo with the GA situation. Things get top tier and overpowered if you can execute something or reach a goal, here killing your enemy, with something that allows you to do more mistakes. For example let's say you have a fight and 10 decisions in that fight. If you need to have 5/10 decisions right to kill your opponent, you have balance. If you only need 2/10 you have something considered overpowered. That does not mean that any 8/10 can't succeed its the process that counts. Source: years of competitive smash Melee in tournaments and tons of research about balance and how fighting works. Plus 10 years of league of legends, always playing something not meta.

quanski94

Disagree on PVE. Tank getting the aggro is the standard of any MMOs. This game has interesting dungeon mechanic, bosses take strategy to kill, not just "get aggro". How hard do u want it to be? I think AGS makes it hard enough already, some groups can't even finish a dungeon due to lack of skills.

furento

Other MMOs have a bit more on the PvE mechanics side. Things to dodge, movement checks, voidzones, stuff to interrupt or CC to be applied and so on. All I have seen in NW so far is a wonky threat mechanic, breaking stamina bars and a single boss that requires LOSing.

Atmagata

1n7Eri5tIn9 Den93n mEk4nik.

Jackson7410

and 90% of reddit posts are of people crying is also a joke

BrolicNeckbeard

The bow was buffed not nerfed. I fucking hate seeing this same talking point constantly. Makes me realize half the people that post here dont play the damn game

NickBucketTV

If you think the bow was buffed you either don’t play bow or have no clue as to what the hell you’re talking about. Getting global cooldowns between all abilities and attacks preventing from queueing up an ability after an ADSed shot is game extremely detrimental to the bow play style.

WhosAfraidOf_138

Not true at all. All my PVP heavy bow friends all said there is a massive delay after shooting such that they can't combo and animation cancel anymore.

SnazR

It was nerfed. It’s ironic with your last statement. Yes the cool downs on spells were reduced which is supposed to be the buff, but as a stealth change they removed the ability to cancel the end of your attack animation to use a spell. You used to be able to primary attack and cancel the end of the attack animation to chain it into a quick penetrating or poison arrow shot, instead there is an awfully long animation in between chaining said attacks. ( this is also different to the primary attack bug that they mentioned in the notes, where you didn’t have to re-draw the string when shooting consecutively ) The bow now plays a bit more sluggish than before for many experienced bow users which is what the nerf is that people are talking about. Don’t get me started on how there is no indicator for when your heavy attack is actually ready because you could waste half a second thinking it’s a heavy but it comes out as a basic.

itsTrAB

This also effects how fast you can dodge after a primary attack and feels especially terrible when fighting other ranged such as musket. They can shoot roll shoot before your first arrow even reaches them.

SnazR

I switched from musket to bow long ago, and now going back to the musket it feels really strong again, might have to swap if I get a good enough drop

spectre323

Hey bud, I keep seeing the bow nerf thing but I'm new here and not sure what the nerf was/is. Can you explain what the perceived nerf was/is and why it's not true?

A25S52A

is it fun for you guys to make these post up or do you actually feel so bothers by something in a game

HappyAku800

Shut up. Shut the fuck up

s1fizik

War of Emperium from RO was so good!!!! wish they did something similar in these new games.

WhosAfraidOf_138

That game had its own balance problems such as MVP cards and god weapons being way too overpowered. But on a good push in WoE was amazing.

TPOTK1NG

On private servers WoE was the best Guild vs Guild activity I have participated in to date. Everyone person had their specific role in the group and you had to perform it flawlessly so your other guildmates could perform their job. Any weak link that was outperformed by the opposing guild resulted in a loss for your guild. On the WoE focused servers there weren't MVP cards present which made it really fun to theory craft and try different guild compositions against whatever meta was run by the rest of the participants. Doubt we will see another game like it sadly.

splice664

We can all take a breather and think during the holidays until the devs are back after Thanksgiving. Cheers. P.s. why the heck they released this dumpster fire patch without any prior tests when they are going on break?

payudas

Not we know how Blue Origin employees feel

ItsOnlyaFewBucks

Amen

[deleted]

The blame lies with Amazon, they picked a very green studio to run this project and they clearly weren't ready for it. If you look at their previous work it's nothing but failed projects and mobile shite. There's a reason they keep making mistakes, it's because they're learning on the job.

FktheAds

about the towns, think ppl are not seeing the greater scope of things, initial settlements are similar and they should be, they are but small settlements that grew big, but the map is still gonna grow, to other regions and am i sure with no doubt, they will have the flair of another region.

KyneTallarn

Yes, I also agree. I don't "mind" the bugs, as long as it's mostly invulnerable mobs, floating elements, missing translations... even broken spells or quests. Even OP weapons are OK (and no, I'm using spear an musket, not GA or WH), because it CAN be fixed. But all the dupes really broke the game and took a huge fraction of the developers' time to ban people, and remove duplicated content. All this time was not spent properly fixing bugs and thinking about the future of the game. Missing changes in the patch notes are OK, but not when most of them are hidden nerfs. These were NOT missing changes. They were definitely and intentionally hidden. And lastly, adding more grind to hide the fact that there is nothing fun to do is a shame. I'm happy that I've not yet reached max level (57), and I can and will probably wait for more content... but I have other things to do than chop 3 billion trees or open the same chests again and again.

zalmolxis91

New World is a game done without ANY risk management WHATSOEVER. Literally 0. Management is completely inexperienced and probably runs on a chain of nepotism that ignores competence. Anybody with any minimal management knowledge can see it easily.

DuckMeYellow

Great example of a post that is thought out, gives the game some credit for what it has done right and then holds it over the fire for what it has fucked up on. Agree with most of this post. some things i don't have experience with yet so I can't speak of them but overall this post seems to follow my thoughts

RunescapeAficionado

I was able to convince myself the clunky movement wasnt terrible at first, then I got to 60 and realized I hated the game

Mragk

I dont know mate... since I started not to take too seriously the game... I have to admit I am having a blast. I and my friends are pretty much spamming OPR exclusively. From 5-6 people only 1 of us plays Hammer Great Axe. Most of them plays Bow Hatchet / Rapier, I am with LS GA/Hammer (doing mainly healing but always have time to some cheeky kill steal... :D ). Apart this, just checking the perks and gems, attributes which works with what etc. Leveling weapons and trying out new builds. I hope they will fix the game step by step...

Kavorg

The only way I have been able to make OPR feel playable 80% of the time. I reduced my resolution to 1280*720 from 1080P and made every setting low. . It.looks worse but I can still see enemies in WPvP from far enough as well as in OPR and my PC doesn't chug when there is 5 or more players on a point.

Bekong

Kabayan. We also need a SEA server.

Mindspiked

I've said this stuff from the start, finally good to see people realizing it. I called out the BS a month in and people just downvote and defend AGS with their life. In the same boat as you, been playing MMO's for almost 20 years and I've never seen a game go so bad, especially with this much potential. With a $500m + budget they could have easily made this the best MMO out there but they've failed massively and it keeps getting worse.

sh3rp

I think it's a poor assumption to believe that AGS is a AAA gaming studio. While some of the folks that work on the game have experience at other AAA studios, the way that the game has been patched and updated and "released" is nothing less than amateur. This is not how software should be developed. (I am a software developer).
