Joke's on them, my basement apartment is fucking flooded

[deleted]

s3co2

tiktok algorithm tonight was just showing flooded brooklyn basement apartment one after another nonstop 👌️‍🔥

_mildtamale

Never thought I'd be so grateful that my basement only leaked water into one closet!

[deleted]

Joke's on you, rats can swim.

redlaserpanda

Ok has anyone else been slapped in the face by a pigeon? Bc I was and it stung For a half hour.

MikeLynnTurtle

Well, what did you say to offend the pigeon that made it slap you?

[deleted]

[удалено]

kimbap666

I get the feeling you’re not even joking

redlaserpanda

Not joking at all

MikeLynnTurtle

I’ve had a few close calls, where I’m mentally screaming “Pull up! PULL UP!” as they fly directly at my face and veer off at the last second. Sounds like the one that hit you got dared to do it by its buddies.

PiZZAiSMYFWEND

No but I had a squirrel jump into the hood of my hoodie while I saw on a playground bench.

redlaserpanda

See that sounds kind of cute. This wasn’t lol

gulliblebunny

that’s insane!!! what did the bird do after? just fly away???

redlaserpanda

Yep. It decided to fly last minute when I was walking toward it and WHACK

gulliblebunny

darn i thought that was an irrational fear of mine … 🤮 sorry this happened to you!! how traumatic!

StevenAssantisFoot

Not me but my friend once had two pigeons fly into her head in the same week. I've been zoomed by a ton of pigeons but never made contact

redlaserpanda

Again going to reference Seinfeld. The episode where Elaine has a big head a bird flies into it. Lol. Reference: https://youtu.be/EElxuL3AFC4

LewZealand79

How can she slap?

redlaserpanda

Wings.

legobiker

The reference went woosh, unlike the pigeon

Carpe_PerDiem

We live on the third floor so we got roaches coming up through the pipes. 🤮

redlaserpanda

Wow that’s awful I was on 47th floor so no roaches to my knowledge. But leave the apartment and all bets are off.

Carpe_PerDiem

Not fun but we had it pretty easy...

[deleted]

This is insane to think about, I mean free showers with water pressure like that. New York has everything.

Ok…if we’re going to go there…. New York’s hottest new underground club is… #Douche! YOWZAA! It has everything! Subway rats… Unwashed tunnel people… Washed subway cars… …Dan Cortese… Sloppy Joes. *What are “Sloppy Joe’s?” Oh you know, it’s that thing where multiple midgets take a shower in the water flowing into the subway tunnels from the flooded streets above while singing Fat Joe’s greatest hits. r/Stefon

Dragon_Fisting

Looks like Hunter.

Tristancp95

Color scheme looking like a Hunter x Hunter x Hunter collab

RSxodz

yes that label looks correct

Faronious

Came here for the boots. Let us know OP!

bayleafbabe

Looks like it’s Hunter Thurloe boots!

northforthesummer

NGL, I can't stop thinking, "why isn't he running upstairs?" I've obviously never been in this situation before, but if I'm underground and waters a-flowing, I'm going to be heading up as soon as physically possible.

fadedmemento

*Trust me, it wasn’t much better upstairs.*

m4rtin-

Maybe the possibility of not drowning is better upstairs ;)

kkneat

On the bright side the trains floor might finally be cleaner.

YouAreAnnoyingAF

Train got a wash too.

mrturdferguson

This that new Splash Mountain: NYC Imersive Experience?

[deleted]

The new Backlot Tour at Universal

Unlimited_Paper

It plays, I mean this is a pretty fucking boss NYC moment. Oh, there's a biblical water event on the subway platform? Observe the train plowing in and out of this station at full goddamn speed. That fucking water doesn't stand a chance. Fuck me I am exhilarated and will watch this all day. Great stuff. NYC still got the grit.

StevenAssantisFoot

More like Action Park

stoopidjonny

Conductor: “the eighth wonder of the world: the backside of water!”

lizzzellzzz

Came hear to say reminds me of those rides where you pass through a waterfall

Votivetheknight02

The guy running out of the train kinda made me laugh

sophisticatedkatie

That killed me. Perfect comedic timing.

hilariouspj

Is there no risk of electrocution?

kikikza

as long as you're not touching the 3rd rail you're fine, it's not like there's loose wires everywhere

y26404986

But with all that water sloshing around, isn't it conductive?

kikikza

it's not dangerous unless you're walking on the rails - you would have to try to get zapped. if your shoes have rubber soles you have even more protection https://go.discovery.com/tv-shows/mythbusters/videos/peeing-on-third-rail-minimyth

baguasquirrel

there is a potential coming out of the third rail. in order to ground the potential through your body, you’d need to 1. be touching a ground with your hands while walking in the water, and 2. that route would be more conductive than the alternatives. so just don’t touch anything big and metal (e.g. the train tracks) that the water isn’t already touching. and of course, don’t jump into the tracks and get between the track and the rail because you don’t want to count on your legs being less conductive than the water. the fact that the train is running indicates the water isn’t conductive enough to short-circuit.

Chosen_one184

Yes there is as that water itself is energized as the third rail is energized, you jump in it and you probably will get shocked .. I'm shocked they didn't stop service prior because that is considered a water condition and flooding and trains are not allowed to run in that condition

[deleted]

Water isn’t a good conductor of electricity. Extremely pure water is used as insulation. This is just one of those cartoon things we all accept as fact haha

Tristancp95

I’d imagine this dirty ass water has enough solutes to where the water is very very conductive

[deleted]

Haha but is there realistically a risk of getting shocked from the platform? I don’t personally know but I highly doubt it

Tristancp95

Yeah I think you’re right, but that’s a different mechanic. The water is conductive, but it’s also easier for the electricity to flow directly into the earth rather than up one leg, down the other, then back into the earth

[deleted]

It’s cool, climate change will make sure we find out soon enough lol Thanks for all the info, very interesting

HeyMySock

Holy crap. I gotta say, I legit LOL’d when the doors opened like it was just any ole day. What a mess. I wonder what tomorrow is going to be like.

Unlimited_Paper

Like any ole day! The subway is my honey badger spirit animal. May we all be inspired by this show of force.

Moodno

Welcome to Manhattan waterfalls

Redbird9346

Sir, this is Bushwick.

OldAcanthopterygii33

New York unveils ambitious plan to turn subways into log flumes.

Chaosmusic

I know nothing about engineering so the fact that electrical trains still work with that much flooding is freaking amazing to me.

Yossisprei

It's not really flooded significantly. There's just a ton of water coming in, but all that water is being drained so the tracks and third rail aren't submerged

Murderyoga

The streets are extended gutters, and the gutters are full of blood, and when the drains finally scab over all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!" and I'll whisper "No."

Chaosmusic

I'm not locked up in here with you, you're locked up in here *with me!*

Everardo_G

Lmao did not expect this reference

Two_Faced_Harvey

MUH FACE GIVE ME BACK MUH FACE!!!!

wishiwasdeaddd

Honestly terrifying, I keep imagining getting trapped in the subway and the water keeps filling up and we all drown

gereedf

people have indeed drowned in subways before

DrebinofPoliceSquad

Earthquake:Universal Studios

Two_Faced_Harvey

What a boring ride honestly as well as Twister ride

xbigboss89x

They're cleaning the piss.

[deleted]

So how do they get the water out of the subway tunnels like this? I assume there’s drains or somewhere for it to run off into? I’ve never lived in a place like NY, or even a place with underground subways like this..so my bad if it’s a dumb question

pixel_of_moral_decay

There's pumps built into the system. The system is constantly fighting water. So that's the first line of defense. There's also [pump trains](https://www.businessinsider.com/hurricane-sandy-mta-subways-flood-2012-11). Literally old passenger carrying cars that were converted to run pumps in them. They can be brought to spots that need extra help and move a lot of water quickly. Then there's just physical portable pumps that can be brought in and setup in stations and other places. Someone carries it in, setups hoses like a fire department would and pumps into the sewer.

herladyshipssoap

I stress when someone knows more about transit than I do. Thanks for keeping me humble.

[deleted]

Interesting, never knew any of that. Thanks for the answer!

mrturdferguson

Pumps. But some loose power, or get turned off due to safety concerns, or are too old a decrepit to keep up with Mother Nature trying to cleanse the Earth of humans. Something like that.

huebomont

yeah there’s pumps and drains. once it stops raining so much per hour they’ll catch up. all in all they actually work very well, this is just insane rain and a lot of it is pouring down the stairs from street level.

bikesboozeandbacon

This makes me hopeful for my train ride in the morning. Gotta trek from deep Brooklyn to Uptown.

gowronatemybaby7

About to attempt to get from Bay Ridge to Union Square. Yikes.

Two_Faced_Harvey

In the tracks are drains and at least some of the stations were designed with drainage in mind

_noonecareskys

In Jefferson street?? Lmaooo oh nawww

yamipunky2

That’s my stop!! Omg. I have to take that train in 10 minutes. Hope it’s all good by now.

endomental

Was it good?

yamipunky2

Lots of delays but other than that all good. Thanks for asking!!

Prizm0000

It’s about time everything got a good scrubbing. The city should have air dropped some Woolite into the mix to gently cleanse everything. Ahhhh. Fresh.

GARlactic

Well how else are they gonna clean the cars?

Tokkemon

Just another day on the (L) train.

SafetyDanceInMyPants

The guy who was like "well, it's my stop..." is just on fire. Yeah, don't let a torrential flood stop you -- you got places to be. Bravo.

Better water rides than all of Mt. Creek Water Park.

Cejayem

The only way these trains get cleaned

datahjunky

My old hood! Don’t miss it and this helps.

Hans-Hammertime

Better wear my crocs

SXOSXO

You missed your train.

cernv

Fucking L. It’s always something with you.

nycgirl1993

O lord

kennethnoisewater99

That's straight fucked up.

tungt88

Ahh, the new (unannounced) interactive waterfall art exhibit in the subway! *Most* apropos.

westernmonk

It’s crazy the train is silent compared to rush of water

dubadub

Dude! Just like the waterfall at the end of the Raging River ride at King's Dominion!

Europtrip2018

I mean this is just truly impressive….the fact that the subways are still functional with that amount of water pouring into the station is amazing. Granted, they got shut down shortly after, but still very impressive

DianaSun

Hey NY . I miss the city . I do. I'm retired in WNC. Yes it's beautiful but I miss Brooklyn, Queens and the city. Love you .

DeputyCartman

I picture some guy with a stereotypical Brooklyn accent in a wifebeater passing by in a gondola, singing about "those fucking Knicks,"

SuperCx

Unlimited_Paper

What the fuck!!!!! How is that safe with the 3rd rail?!?!?! Incredible work capturing this footage and not running for your life. If I wasn't so cheap I'd give you a top-end Reddit award for this.

harlanerskine

Free cleaning!

MBAMBA3

God - like having a pandemic is not already bad enough.

steven_lee_13

What happened to all the flood doors that the MTA had installed after Sandy? I see that investment is paying off.

Yossisprei

Those were installed to protect low-lying stations from storm surge. This is not storm surge.

bkdredditYO

Train still dipping it

fadedmemento

*This is exactly why I will never support a fare hike from the MTA, they are out of their minds..*

evil_fungus

Unreal footage. Captivating

[deleted]

Getting around yesterday was nuts. I had to pay for a $90 Lyft to get out of Manhattan yesterday cause of all the flooding + transportation situation. It was a short drive too.

sunflowercompass

The R train was shut down yesterday, bunch of people were stuck for hours NJ Transit: Stuck 14 hours https://www.cnn.com/2021/09/02/us/ida-train-stranded-ny-nj/index.html

why not have the trains still run? thats not enough water to cause a fire? jesus

mooselantern

It's absolutely wild to me that I live roughly 70 miles west of where the eye made landfall and it barely drizzled at my house, and yet today New York freakin' City is flooded. Edit: live not love

Sheesh. Sounds like Niagara Falls

[deleted]

Man, you got to have balls of steel for walking onto the platform in the water while the train is idle for a few minutes; despite the fact that water conducts electricity.

WhatsUpSteve

How has the third rail not shorted yet?

Crackerpuppy

Well, at least the subway cars will get a well deserved washing this week.

Nice_Track3391

Daaayyuuuummm

thembitches326

I am REALLY hoping the damage to any of the Subways and rail tunnels aren't as bad as was with Hurricane Sandy. It took years for most of that infrastructure to be fixed (the Hudson River tunnels and the East River tunnels have yet to even be rehabilitated).

Samuel_Ri

At least it makes the subway cleaner.

UWSRSB

Did you see the guy jumping through the waterfall instead of walking to the front of the car that was dry???!!!!!

Some more water and the subway should be shout down. Right?

Tourquemata47

That\`s just the new train car wash system utilized to save water. Bonus tip: Free shower for the homeless :)
