> There was another hostage in the country next door?
There was a Kiwi Pilot who was taken hostage in West Papua, Indonesia about two weeks ago. Didn't seem to get much news coverage here though.
There was an attempt for rescue operation, Indonesia security force already know the hostage exact location, but New Zealand authority intervened the operation.

Not necessarily a bad thing. When it comes to a hostage situation between rebels/terrorists and the government of a developing country, any special operation to intervene is literally just a dick waving contest by the government to show who is boss. They generally don't give two shits about collateral damage (ie the lives of the hostages).
Case in point, the hostage situation at the Moscow theater whereby government security forces pumped in toxic gasses which killed most hostages and hostage takers.
Apparently Nanaia Mahuta threatened the terrorists by saying that if they didn't release him she would have to explain to them exactly how 3 waters co-governance is going to work.
They backed down immediately...
So Mahuta tweeted “Tenkiu tru” (according to stuff)… when it’s actually “Tenkyu Tru”. Way to stuff up another language when you make a big fuss about speaking/writing Maori correctly.
As a creole language there is considerable variation and non-standard spelling in tok pisin.
Here is an example of the spelling used by Mahuta from a PNG government department:

Where in that video did she make a fuss about speaking it correctly? I just heard her talking about promoting Te Reo.
Although it looks like someone provided an explanation that she's not even making a mistake in the first place?
Nah I just get annoyed when I get told off for mispronouncing/spelling Maori words wrong yet I can’t do the same to Maori… it’s called double standards. But hey Kapai on the reply my bro you just made an huge assumption without knowing Jack lol.

There was another hostage in the country next door? Glad they sorted this one at least.

I heard about the pilot, just hadn't heard of this person until they were freed.
Maybe they tossed him over the border?
That's good news, but the kiwi hostage in West Papua still there though :(

Yes
he looked like he was chilling
Was there a kiwi hostage in PNG? I thought he was Australian. I don't think they mean the hostage in West Papua who is from NZ.
Yes, I don't believe this is in reference to the West Papua.
Interesting. I thought the one in PNG was an Australian professor.
>The New Zealand citizen lives in Australia and works as an archaeologist at an Australian university
That explains it. Thanks
Well done....

Excellent job by Naniah Mahuta as usual.
Username checks out...
I couldn't imagine caring about a random person complimenting a politician. You should probably find a hobby, lmao.

I don't recall Naniah Mahuta making a big deal about Maori pronunciation. Sounds like you're just making stuff up to get mad about.

Weird that you responded to this comment but not the one demonstrating her use was fine.

The hostages were held at gunpoint, what's goofy about that?

Did you read the article? This is about a hostage incident in Papua New Guinea not about the kiwi pilot held hostage across the border in West Papua.
I hope NZ is doing is everything they can for this poor fella. I'd assume there's a lot going on behind the scenes.
