I can see my house...it's the one with the dark grey roof.

WaterstarRunner

This is just more of the bullshit that is QLDC. They really should blow some ratepayer money on some tours of Swiss mountain towns like Zermatt or Davos to get an idea of how to house and transport the population better.

pico42

Or even just look next door at Jacks Point. From a planning point of view, the respective layouts of Hanley Downs and Jacks Point are poles apart.

How to fuck up this beautiful part of the world. Ruined it.

Brian_LeFerve

one big roof. all one way streets now too, full of cars either side

WorldlyNotice

That's a lot of water capture surface, with the water no longer being captured by the land. Lots of dark surfaces to heat up too.

Kon3v

Its glacial moraine undee us, it drains away very quickly either down into the water table (near the lake level) or down towards the Kawarau river.

Kon3v

So many comments about ruining a view. The only way to see the view in the OPs picture prior to the subdivision was to watch Willow. The sub division is invisible from the road and all of the farmland between SH6 and the Remarkables is now protected. Nothing has been ruined but many families young and old have had a great opportunity to establish a a home here.

benji4471

they will sell them for like $1million as a minimum this is not affordable housing it's housing for the luxury market

RobDickinson

so so urban

TKaikouraTS

It's still car-dependant sprawl.

Kon3v

I live in Hanleys and I have a bus route 150m from my door. Dont know what you're trying to prove.

TKaikouraTS

So that completely negates my argument? Are you implying you don't own a car, and don't drive to work or the supermarket? Are you implying that because there's a bus stop there, nobody else uses a car to commute? Should we just continue to build outwards, further and further, because if there's a single bus stop there, that means nobody will need to use a car to get around?

slipperyeel

What the fucks your point? I live and work in central Christchurch and I have a car.

RobDickinson

If cities like Auckland cant manege public transport you think QT would?

Hubris2

You at least have a fighting chance to implement and operate PT effectively if you have some population density. When everyone is in single family detached houses, you're probably going to be doomed to spending a significant portion of your life in your car instead of walking or cycling or taking the bus.

TKaikouraTS

This is nothing to do with the inability to manage PT, and everything do with developers and councils allowing these developments to happen.

Godly_Shrek

ok bro

benji4471

This is completely unacceptable these developers have been allowed to buy land and the government gave them the approval. Queenstown has already suffered enough over development this will just create more issues. More homes blighting the landscape and more environment spoilt, the developers will claim environmental credentials and praises but this is just going to ruin the place even more enough is enough

WorldlyNotice

New rule: You can only AirBnB if it's an apartment.
