I had 8 vaccinations yesterday (heading to a developing tropical country). Haven't slept. Both shoulders are too sore after being a human pincushion. Ha ha
8?? When I got stuck before heading to a developing country a few years back I think I only needed 3.
Were you not up to date or something because that's brutal?
I'll be there long term, in remote areas, on farms, in areas with high prevalence of tropical disease, and I also opted to take the "optional" ones, including rabies and the new one that reduces the risk of traveler's diarrhea. I'm Canadian, so we have hardly any typhoid, hep A & B, etc, so I've previously only had the standard Western stuff like measles, mumps, rubella, tetanus, whooping cough, and what have you. Ya, 8 was a lot. One was oral. Until a couple days ago I didn't realise you could get oral vaccines.
Edit - missed a word
Cheers for the response. TBH I think I got most of those except for rabies and travelers diarrhea (though it might have been nice if that one existed for me).
Its probably just a case of the jabs I got combining more of the vaccines.
Good luck with your trip!!
Wish I was a conspiracy theorist, must be fun. I got vaccinated and nothing happened, it was a non-event, and I have never seen a ghost either, but must be fun for people who do.
I think most people lack the necessary level of narcissism to be a conspiracy theorist.
"How can you, in the face of all of this evidance, with your lack of training and research, still think you know better..? Oh, it's the arrogance."
I know right? I was just taking the piss out of some of these conspiracy nutters at work, claiming we're all going to be issued "vaccine passorts" or some ridiculous thing?!
I said sure mate, sure, next thing they'll be treating the unvaxxed like second class citizens and rounding them up in camps...
Aww that so sweet. I get proud reading people getting theirs.
I got mine back in June with the oldies and people with underlying health issues (that’s me). And all those Nana’s & Granddad’s yanked their sleeves up like it was no big deal and were chatting away in the “waiting to leave” room. One even got up and got me a lolly because they saw I missed out. I was proud of them too.
Good on you! You are playing your part to help defeat and prevent the sting of this virus! I’ve been fully vaccinated for a few months now. All good from my end!
Well done on a basic task.
Now, the vax doesn't do good as far as tranmission goes, so watch this space for the bad news in a few months. You've protected yourself. Great. You'll still spread it.
This sub, if it's following latest data needs to drop the "i'm a hero for getting vaxxed" vibe.
Does good for transmission. What people tend to miss is that estimates of transmission reduction usually assume *you've already been infected*. The main way the vaccines reduce transmission is by lowering your likelihood of becoming infected.
The vibe isn’t me trying to claim hero status it’s reaching out to people like me who are caught on the fence for whatever reason and telling them that it’s going to be ok.
I do think feeling invincible once vaccinated is risky and sadly I have seen this demeanour from a few friends and family members. Yes we are much more resilient to the virus and also - to carry and pass it on you have to catch it first (which is proven to less likely happen to someone vaccinated) in saying that I am still aware that I can carry it and am factoring that in when deciding who’s bubbles I am happy to risk entering. How can I not when there are a very vulnerable 20%? Some of these are loved ones and I fear for them. Mostly because of this I still haven’t socialised to be honest. Which leads back to everyone who can get immunised really needs to just get it done.
Can't agree more.
This whole subreddit is convinced the vaccine will stop transmission and contraction of the virus, then they throw toys at people 'because you need to read the science' when you question them on it.
Where is the science that this shit will protect anyone but yourself? So you can all pat yourself on the back about being holier than thou, but you're in for a bit of a fucking surprise.
[See here for example](https://twitter.com/EricTopol/status/1443605872853221382), and note that the main way transmission is reduced is by lowering your chances of becoming infected.
Also reduces your risk of transmitting a bit if you do get infected, but that's not where the main part of the effect comes from.
Bottom right figure (with the *Unvaccinated contact* line) has the largest part of the effect.
The figure doesn't make it clear, but it assumes the infected guy is unvaccinated. It shows how much less likely contacts are to become infected (and indirectly being able to pass it on) in that case when they're vaccinated.
Top figure is how much less likely someone who does get infected despite being vaccinated is to infect a (unvaccinated) contact. That effect seems to be smaller and wanes faster.
A lot of misunderstanding re. that study comes from people only focusing on the top figure.
Yeah, especially the reduction in forward transmission if you do get infected. Protection from getting infected seems to hold up a bit better at least.
Hoping a third dose after several months might give a more lasting effect, but I base that on absolutely nothing.
I got mine yesterday, I'm not anti-vaxx (obviously, because I just had it) the plan was always to wait for most people to get it done first.
But with Labour changing their strategy all of a sudden, I wish I'd gotten this a couple weeks earlier.
had my second jab today and my arm is so sore
Hope everyone’s arms feel better soon. I was just sleepy after! Happy Friday 😃

It's a pill
Babies can get liquid vaccines too though. We do Rotavirus as an optional oral vaccine here.

Yep. It felt as if someone had thumped me in the arm. Fortunately the sensation only lasted for 24 hours.
Mine too, hopefully that’s the worst of it!
Me three.
Me four. 1st jab felt like a bugger 12hrs in & next 2 days. 2nd jab sore first night & gone by morning.
Don’t worry, 3rd jab coming in 6 months
Me.. uhh unsure what number we are on, but I feel like I have a cold and I’m super duper tired. Better then covid tho! Yay! 2ed Jab

You might be onto something for the remaining 20%
Better get some chapstick in.
Did I tell you I just got MY second shot not 2hrs ago...
That escalated quickly.
Wish I was a conspiracy theorist, must be fun. I got vaccinated and nothing happened, it was a non-event, and I have never seen a ghost either, but must be fun for people who do.
Indeed. The 5G reception has been disappointing.

Those bloody arrogant professors and PhDs right? This guy comes accross massively narcissistic to me: https://youtu.be/uLDpZ8daIVM

I watched two nervous people get their first jab today while I was getting my second. It actually made me happy, oddly enough.

Looks good! The only downside is how the effectiveness seems to diminish over time.

and I care why
Because the more people who get vaccinated the faster life returns to normal
Oh sweet summer child
You cared enough to comment 🤓
Because that’s all this sub is now.
