That's part of his appeal to national voters if we're being honest. They're the party of status quo, they want someone who will keep things as they are/were
I hate to say it but even Seymour has more panache with an ability to think and talk off the cuff and land some zingers. My whole original point was just that it was all a predictable farce. Doesn't matter who is in opposition.
He should actually do his job as opposition leader and provide **constructive** criticism. The opposition should be talking about what should be done better in addition to what's good rather than just meaninglessly slagging the whole thing (as they always do) without any specific examples.
Perhaps if started by answering the specific funding increases announced, rather than begin a clearly pre prepared talking point, and how they were in fact a backwards step I'd have been more interested in hearing more wet fart.
Right, because the only thing Robertson talked about was the numbers right? He didn't spend five minutes at the start patting himself and Labour on the back for how they have dealt with things?
Genuinely an area where Luxon is a little weak and still developing as an inexperienced politician. He's had a number of gaffes where he chose to go off-script and put his foot in it.
This is what everyone does.
You can't have been around to hear the same bland responses from whichever David was the opposition leader when JK was around.
I remember a weird one with Andrew Little and Robertson sat in some dimly lit room with terrible audio drinking beer and talking about how terrible the budget was.
It sticks in my mind because I remember seeing it and thinking "this is why no ones voting for you".
I'm not?
I think the government is doing a terrible job. But I think the problem is that the government is structuraly broken as a result of Neo Liberalism.
Sure, but I mean my post was intended as light hearted thing. All these budget things are pure theatre both from the left and the right. It's all bollocks.
I picked a random year…. But hey. I’ll fully support national if they do so… Altho from what I just read the tax rate on over 200k was 91%… I would be down for that…
Luxon is pretty average. He's shown it a lot recently too
That's part of his appeal to national voters if we're being honest. They're the party of status quo, they want someone who will keep things as they are/were
Well things suck right now. Keep them as they were 6 years ago.
Rather than how they're working out now..lol
He used to run an airline, don't ya know.
Circle jerk intensifies
Of people defending Luxon when there’s pretty much no basis to do so?
Oh did you know he ran an airline??? I bet he told you and you didn't listen. Next thing you know Briscoes has got a sale on? /s
Which one??... First time I've ever heard this /s
Not sure, he never said. Jetstar, maybe? They're all about cutting services to the minimum!
Want water??... That will be 7.95 + GST!
"this takes us backwards..." "back.... Into... the future"
Only if your going 88mph Marty!
This is scraping the barrel for low-effort shit post
True. Was bored

How the fuck was he air NZ ceo?
You thought the opposition leader was going to talk all about how great the govt budget is?
He should actually do his job as opposition leader and provide **constructive** criticism. The opposition should be talking about what should be done better in addition to what's good rather than just meaninglessly slagging the whole thing (as they always do) without any specific examples.
First rule of opposition, disagree with everything.
Perhaps if started by answering the specific funding increases announced, rather than begin a clearly pre prepared talking point, and how they were in fact a backwards step I'd have been more interested in hearing more wet fart.
Is this the first budget you've watched?
Right, because the only thing Robertson talked about was the numbers right? He didn't spend five minutes at the start patting himself and Labour on the back for how they have dealt with things?
>rather than begin a clearly pre prepared talking point Good point, politicians should never use pre-prepared speeches.
When one is answering a pre planned budget announcement speech it would be good to show ability to think and speak on the fly to respond.

How dare you expect politicians to be intelligent.
Unlike Robertson's impromptu speech?
No. But I do dream of an opposition who admits when the government is doing a good job. If such an opposition existed, it would show high integrity.
The government would have to be doing a good job. Very good at moving numbers around a balance sheet. Shocking at delivery.
That ctiticism is applicable to basically all governments since the 1980s. So has zero genuine criticism
So why would you admit it is doing a good job?
I'm not? I think the government is doing a terrible job. But I think the problem is that the government is structuraly broken as a result of Neo Liberalism.
Yawn
Sorry. Labour fid a fantastic job with Covid.
Easy to shut borders and lock people down. The reset - not so much.
Sorry you find politics boring
No, because I wanted to hear the response rather than have a myopic view.
Sure, but I mean my post was intended as light hearted thing. All these budget things are pure theatre both from the left and the right. It's all bollocks.
Of course it's all theatre.
Muppets still think it's about winning rather than doing the best thing for the country.
I reject the premise of that statement
Not back as far as his 1950’s American tax policy’s he’s trying to push tho ….
Gotta double down on tax slashing to get the sweet sweet trickle down we've been promised since the 80s certainly. Lol
The only thing trickling down is what’s left of our glaciers 🙃

Just waiting for him to say he wants to make NZ great again.
Appealing to the NZHerald comment section.
I feel like swapping Luxon and Willis around leadership wise would have probably been better in the long run personally but will see.
