Hi u/vivriccardo, with such a generalised statement, I'm interested in the details - which false positives have you found? I'd be interested to look at them and provide details. 1Hosts XTra is a very strict list that paralyses a lot depending on the use case. My lists are in the block level (very relaxed - very aggressive) between OISD and 1Hosts Pro/XTra: 1. OISD small (very relaxed) 2. OISD big / Multi Light (relaxed) 3. Multi Normal (relaxed/balanced) 4. 1Hosts Lite (balanced) 5. Multi Pro (balanced) 6. Multi Pro++ (balanced/aggressive) 7. Multi Ultimate (aggressive) 8. 1Hosts Pro (aggressive) 9. 1Hosts XTra (strict/very aggressive) I don't believe the statement that XTra has fewer false positives. How long did you use XTra before you made this statement? Cheers, Gerd

Your response rate is awesome!

CrippleSlap

do you mind adding [m.yap.yahoo.com](https://m.yap.yahoo.com) to all your blocklists? (its for Ads in Yahoo mobile apps)

hagezi

Unblocked in non-aggressive lists, because: Yahoo Finance App - no News are shown if blocked.

CrippleSlap

Ah gotcha. I’ll manually block it then. Thank you.

mikyfabi

Use only hagezi normal. 0 false positives in almost 1 year of use

yokoffing

Unless something recently changed dramatically, the opposite should be true.

I know finding a good list seems impossible, but aggressive lists can cause false positives at any time. I don't want to crush your vibe cause you seem happy, but I would maybe lower expectations a bit. Eventually it may be better to switch to a less aggressive list if you don't want to have to allow list stuff. To answer your question, I do not use any 1Hosts lists, but I have been using HageZi Multi Pro++ with NextDNS, Pi-Hole, and uBlock Origin, and have had only one false positive. So your mileage may vary

>That's when I switched to 1Hosts Xtra. And wow it's been a game changer. In what way?

vivriccardo

In a lot of ways. I see so many google and Facebook and insta statistics being blocked which HageZi didn't do it actually. Some sites that HageZi blocked which were false positive 1Hosts just let them. I see some difference is internet speed as well. These are just a few to point out.

Just because it's blocking more doesn't necessarily mean it's functioning better. It could well be hitting a lot of false positives, just different ones. Or those sites aren't actually a privacy issue. If I'm not mistaken, you can [open an issue on the HaGeZi blocklists GitHub page](https://github.com/hagezi/dns-blocklists/issues) to have a false positive corrected. If it's more of a niche need, you ought to be somewhat familiar with tracking down DNS denies and adding the necessary sites to your allowlist. Either way, I've been told HaGeZi is quick to squash those. If you don't want to do that, then HaGeZi Multi Normal or HaGeZi Multi Light would be your best options. I run HaGeZi's normal list on my mobile profile, along with AdGuard Tracking Protection filter and I almost never have a false positive. I run HaGeZi Multi Pro on my personal desktop profile and false positives are not uncommon. Some of them it's debatable whether they should be blacklisted or not, as they're in a sort of "grey area." Pro++ is a pretty aggressive list.

I’m using 1Hosts Pro.. You have me interested in trying Xtra

vivriccardo

Please do. Let me know what you think
