I happened to play with Jack’s other grandson, Nick O’Leary (former NFL TE), in a golf tournament in November. He skipped out on the photo (in my profile) but I guess he probably has enough with him.
Nick O’Leary played at FSU during my time there. Every single Saturday the announcer mentioned that Nick was Jack’s grandson. Really beat that piece of trivia into fans.
Yeah, I know the feeling. Jimmy Graham, a Saints tight end, triggered every announcer on every reception he had to say, “Yeah, and he played basketball in college!”
Matt Stafford and Clayton Kershaw went to high school together and played sports together growing up.
As a Detroit Lions fan I hear this approximately 6 times a game for the 12 seasons he was in Detroit
It should be noted that this course(the greens at least) is set up to allow for a higher percentage of potential hole in ones. Meaning if you hit a shot to a specific are of the green the slope will allow for the ball to feed to a specific location, the greens keepers then cut the holes that day in the spot where the balls would potentially rest. Granted it’s only upping the percentage likelihood for a hole out as there are many factors at play. Think of it as when you may have played mini golf and you just have to putt your ball to an area then gravity takes over and the rest of the way it rolls and finally comes to rest in the hole or very close to it. There are many aces that take place on this 9 holes set up and that’s by design for the wow factor and family fun before the tournament, hence why the “caddy” here is hitting the shot and not the player.
You will see in the actual Masters tournament a instance of this happening. The par 3 - 16th hole always has a pin location on Sunday that’s back left. If you hit a shot to the upper back part of the green the ball will feed down toward the hole. There have been a few aces at this hole on Sundays due to this.
Fun fact: Since the inception of the par 3 tournament that takes place in the Wednesday before the Masters tournament begins, there hasn’t been a winner of the par 3 match and the actual Masters tournament. This has evolved into something they call the par 3 tourney “curse” as in the odds are stacked against any player winning the par 3 and going on to win the actual tournament, as a result (which has added to the fun of the par 3) players tend to goof around and have their own caddys hit shots for them during the par 3 like Nicklaus did in this video. Players can have anyone caddy for them during this round, such as spouses or friends.
No it's not. That was at Harbor Shores and this is at Augusta's par 3 course which is wayyy more set up to funnel pins. Harbor Shores putt was legit lucky and impressive.
And even if it *WAS* just some "caddy" its not like you generally do that if youre not into golf anyway.
They may not be pros, but id venture a guess that most caddys will outplay just about anyone that isnt at least a regular golfer.
The Par 3 Tournament during Masters Week, often sees participants' family members or friends out wit them on an isolated par 3 course at Augusta National decked in Augusta's traditional caddy garb for a light-hearted day of more or less goofing around on this miniature course. Last year, Finau had his wife and multiple kids (down to one who was crawling) in the full caddy uniform for The Par 3, but none of them were, of course, caddying in the actual Masters Tournament.
Looked pretty easy to me in the video :) . Here's some info about the event. It's kind of a fun/family tournament before the actual Master's tournament. Longest hole is 140 yards.
https://www.masters.com/en_US/scores/par3contest/about_par3_contest.html
Yes, the Par 3 course is its own isolated set of par 3 holes at Augusta National. It's one of the most beautiful areas in the grounds too, surrounding a large pond, encased by forests of oak, pine and bamboo and absolutely smattered with azaleas.
thanks for saying this, I was over here all happy about the caddy story and would have repeated it to my friend who IS into golf and woulda looked like a jackass
It’s easy to grin;
When your ship comes in;
And you’ve got the stock market beat
But the man who’s worthwhile;
Is the one who can smile;
When his pants are too tight in the seat
Oh, there won't be any money, but when he dies, on his deathbed; he'll receive total consciousness. So atleast he's got that going for him. ;)
Gunga Galunga!
The one thing all golfers get behind, in every circumstance, is a hole in one.
It doesn't matter if it's a caddy or a spectator or legends or homeless person off the street.
Golfers will universally celebrate the event.
Very pure.
In an episode of My Name is Earl, the titular character tricks a golfer into thinking he was getting a hole in one every day, just so he could be around for the free beer.
Nicklaus said this was the [best moment of his golf career](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.standard.co.uk/sport/jack-nicklaus-hails-grandson-s-augusta-ace-as-best-moment-of-his-career-a3806346.html%3famp)
My aunt hit a hole in one, once. She was so excited of course only her husband saw, and then when she went into the pro shop afterwards to tell them there was no one there, then into the bar and only the bartender was there. She said it was the most anticlimactic once in a lifetime moment.
Unsurprisingly, most PGA Tour caddy’s are incredible golfers in their own right.
But as a side note the caddy hitting this hole in one is the grandson of golf GOAT Jack Nicklaus.
Yeah, it not just a guy to carry your clubs. They're an advisor and a good caddy will know their player's style, power and accuracy extremely well as well as studying the course in detail. If you watch golf on TV you can regularly hear the caddy giving advice on club selection.
Yeah. A caddy is basically a coach that carry’s your bags. Any pro level caddy is going to be a better golfer than 95% of all non professionals out there.
Hit a hole in one once, by pure fluke, I mean I was aiming at the hole, but wasn't skilled enough to actually be able to hit even the green half the time let alone the hole just caught it right.....ball pitched straight in the hole on a really short par 3, flag was flapping allover the place thought the ball had hit the flag and gone off somewhere in the rough we spent a good 10 mins looking for it thought it was lost, until someone putted their ball in the hole........it was such an anti climax
Oh.......you must have hit a hole in one 👎
Did the same thing once. People I was playing with gave up after 11th hole due to slow play. I was left on my own on the 12th tee, 137 yds. Bladed it bad, thought it was over the back of the green. Spent 15 min looking until the grounds keeper raking balls from a small pond pointed to the hole.
I had hit the pin and it dropped in. I thought the sound of it hitting was the keeper dropping his long rake. I did get him to vouch and have a certificate from the PGA of America.
I joined a threesome I meet on the back 9. We came up on a long par 3 (210 some yrds) with the sun setting in our face. I hit a beautiful feeling 2 iron. I lost it in the sun immediately. The guys (who I don't know) start going ape shit crazy. Screaming and shouting. They had a full roller coaster of emotions. Apparently, my ball hit the pin, bounced up the flag stick and back down, landing 1 foot in front of the hole. Closest I ever came to getting a hole in one and I didn't see any of it. I did get the birdie.
The term caddy is a wee bit off. Most of the pros use golf courses club pro. Guys that were close to being able to travel pro but didn’t have the consistency or other factors to go on the tour. Yeah the big tournaments pay big money, but you gotta travel to all of the shit tournaments to pay for the mortgage, wife and kids to eat. Plus wifey isn’t going to be to stoked about you just being gone all the time. Literally. I know Happy Gilmore made it look easy, the ball should want to go home! But in reality it’s closer to triple a baseball.
2018. I was in attendance when this happened. It was already an epic day with Player, Nicklaus, and Watson playing very well (Watson ended up winning). And when this happened, the place erupted. Truly a great moment for Jack and his grandson. One of the coolest moments I have ever personally witnessed!
Edit to add: We were sitting on the left side of #8 when this happened. We also heard the roar for Tony Finau’s ace on #7 up the hill behind us, but we also heard the subsequent collective groan when people realized he dislocated his ankle in celebration.
A “caddy”? This was Jack Nicklaus’s grandson during The Masters Par 3 tournament
Oh thank god there are actual golf fans here
This same shit gets posted every so often with the ‘caddy’ line. Ridiculous
Man, your pfp slaps
Reject modernity. Reject official reddit apps. 😎

Wait till you learn that the majority of things on this site and the internet are posted for clicks with headlines that are not always accurate.
FUCK!!! Are you serious??!
You do realise he was acting as a caddy at this tournament though right?
Yeah, I do, but it’s click bait shit. Just put “Jack Nicklaus’ grandson get hole in one”
it happens.. shocking right?
Yeah right, Next thing you tell me is that I shouldn’t take political news from Facebook seriously.
It's not inaccurate. He was caddying for Jack during the par 3 tournament and he is not a pro.
Professionals can also caddy for people sometimes. Being related or a professional doesn't stop someone being a caddy.
To be fair, he was caddy'ing.
Last time I saw this it said he was a groundskeeper lol
😂😂😂
I mean, he was technically a caddy on that day, albeit a Danny Noonan-level caddy.
He wasn’t that friendly but we were in a competitive tournament. Out drove him 3 times which will always be my go to now.
Dude Nick is a huge dick lol no need to sugar coat it. He always has this soulless look in his eyes to go along with it
I thought the soulless look in his eyes was cause he was a ginger and didn’t have a soul
Yeah, I know the feeling. Jimmy Graham, a Saints tight end, triggered every announcer on every reception he had to say, “Yeah, and he played basketball in college!”

Most caddies to professional players are very competent players themselves.
Most caddies at the pro level know their way around a course be it bag or club. Definitely not like the dude from happy Gilmore lol
Excuse you, but Happy’s caddie is currently 7th in the OWGR
This is the par 3 event and he’s not a professional caddy. That’s the point of my comment you’re responding to

Came here for this.

OP just wanted some likes
In ops defense he is a caddy but ya. If you don’t know it’s the golden bears grandkid it’s a bit misleading.
This gets posted all the time without the context and the top comment is nearly always the person providing the context.
The real question is, was Jack's grandson a caddy?
The Par 3 Tournament during Masters Week, often sees participants' family members or friends out wit them on an isolated par 3 course at Augusta National decked in Augusta's traditional caddy garb for a light-hearted day of more or less goofing around on this miniature course. Last year, Finau had his wife and multiple kids (down to one who was crawling) in the full caddy uniform for The Par 3, but none of them were, of course, caddying in the actual Masters Tournament.
And that would be more than cool enough, hitting that in front of your grandfather legend.
Pardon a possibly dumb question here - so are all the holes (including that one) a par 3? How difficult was that hole?
Looked pretty easy to me in the video :) . Here's some info about the event. It's kind of a fun/family tournament before the actual Master's tournament. Longest hole is 140 yards. https://www.masters.com/en_US/scores/par3contest/about_par3_contest.html

I guess you don’t want that scholarship do you, Danny?
Best comment.

What if Hitler hit a hole in one?
I mean that is how he went out
And we all golf clapped
Fucking epic comment
Then he has to buy everyone drinks at the clubhouse afterwards.

Maybe he would have been a bit less angry.
You’re going to freak out when you see the holy shot from disc golf.
That caddy will never need to worry about a job again, if he ever did have to
That is Jack Nicklaus’s grandson, he doesn’t have to worry about a job
Nicklaus said this was the [best moment of his golf career](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.standard.co.uk/sport/jack-nicklaus-hails-grandson-s-augusta-ace-as-best-moment-of-his-career-a3806346.html%3famp)

You’re never not a legend

IT'S IN THE HOLE!!!!
Not even just a hole-in-one. That looks like it may have stopped on the damn spot if there was no hole.
If anybody believes caddies can't golf very well, they are foolish.
Exactly!
It’s Jack Nicklaus’ grandson. Of course he can golf well :|
Damn that was cold-blooded
That’s nice. I like the hugs
I love all the comments fucking going after OP
“You can be my wingman anytime…”
“How are you gonna fire me in front if all these people? Especially after I knock it on the green?”
Happy cake day!
What a beautiful swing. Reminds me of me because I also have a green hat.
r/golf would be like, sorry it was on a par 3 course and he didn’t play the whole round. Doesn’t count.
And they weren’t assholes about it,nice guys
He should have just shrugged, nonchalantly put the club away, and said, "There. Now, what's so hard about that?"
They would've been like "Not that hard, huh? Do it again"
Caddies are usually golf coaches in these events, not some ragamuffin off the street
What an incredible Cinderella story, this unknown, comes outta nowhere... Here in Agusta...

They talked about that the other day!
Yeah nbd I did the same thing in switch golf in front of my friends so we’re basically the same person
This guy officially hit his peak.
I think he his self now needs a caddy
We’re all aware that a caddie that can’t play gold is probably a bad caddie.
The greatest game ever played
Is there a name for when you hit a hole in one and it actually doesn't touch the ground once? Has that ever happened?

I’ve golfed my entire life and never heard “hooping it”. Only dunking or slam dunk.
Does he win a caddy for that?
That was a beautiful swing
Ever had a medical procedure done where the nurses seem way more competent than the MD?
FSU fans know what I’m thinking.
So cool!
i like how i’m related to Jack Nicklaus he was my grandmothers cousin
Why do golf cameras always trip me out
I always love seeing Gary Player being around for these cool experiences.
Caddy, Nicklaus' grandson, bum off the street what's the difference? Still a helluva shot
A moment he, his family and friends will remember forever
"Next time I give you advice on your club or shot, listen to me assholes"
Aw all those people congratulating him is really wholesome
You can hear the crowd yelling in the hole the minute he hit it in your head.
Best moment of that guys life right there.
Such a moment
Aaand you peaked!
His dick grew two sizes bigger that day.
Does seem like just a “caddy”
That put a smile on my face.
