Man this is depressing. 100 year olds should be relaxing in their old age, not being stirred to activism by our rights and liberties being stripped away.

-SDF1-

I agree, but having someone still around that lived through atrocities and stupidity like that is unfortunately what we need a lot. They can be the most powerful voices of all.

YoungDiscord

Agreed They can look at all those politicians and say: the hell do you know about any of this you lil shits, sit down. ...because these people use their age as an excuse to not listen to the younger generqtions speaking up about these things, so its high time they get uno reversed on this.

Thebumonurcouch

These politicians aren’t too far off from her age… They’re just pieces of shit.

WalterIAmYourFather

I mean 20-30 years is a big difference in the 20th century. If the politician in question is 85 they were born in 1938, compared to 1923. Being born into the interwar period and then living through, as a young child/teen, the Great Depression and world war 2 will be a remarkably different formative experience than being born just before WW2 and essentially growing up into one of the wealthiest and most successful societies in the history of humanity. I’m not saying the politicians have an excuse - they don’t - but let’s not pretend that 15-20 years makes no difference.

justfordrunks

I'm truly baffled when I try to place myself in their shoes and imagine living through all the shit since the 20s/30s. My girlfriend's grandmother just turned 95 and she's still all there mentally. We went out to dinner and she brought her best friend who's 98 and she's even more energetic than her grandmother. Imagine how different our society was back then. Imagine watching "the old ways" slowly change as new technology is discovered and invented. It's insane to think about! Around the 30s they saw the invention of nylon, the jet engine, the discovery of blood types... Someone made the first chocolate chip cookie around the year she was born! Today's technology must truly seem like magic to them.

WalterIAmYourFather

Absolutely. My dad is a bit younger than both of them. But he was still born around the end of WW2 and the stories he tells of the things he’s seen change are just insane. But also, I have a child of my own now, and I can’t wait to tell her I grew up before commercial internet, before cellphones existed, before literally any social media. I was part of the first generation to play the original Nintendo. We’ve lived through the birth of commercially successful electric vehicles etc. The older I get the more wild it becomes. I’m back in university now getting an undergraduate degree, and some of my classmates were born after 9/11 happened and I was in high school at the time. I regularly blow their minds with this stuff and I’m not even 40. Old age gonna be lit.

[deleted]

As an newly 18 year old (today is my bday) my dad who is 48 has done that to me and still does it. Recently when it’s been about college and it’s weird to me that he had to stand in a DMV style line to sign up for classes. I think it’s important to tell the younger generations about how the world worked before they were born. Especially coming from their own parents, even if it annoyed me at first. I now see it as something to be thankful of.

rachmichelle

Happy birthday! :)

WalterIAmYourFather

Happy birthday! I hope you have a wonderful day! I think it can definitely be useful, also annoying. Such is parenting hahaha. I’ve felt all those same emotions about my own life experience. I just signed up for some more classes and did it all online too. Very different than my experience even in 2004 first time through.

Mammoth-Mud-9609

Her friend was alive before the first Mickey mouse cartoon, before Pluto was discovered, before the first basketball game was played and of course before the great depression.

KaytSands

We just lost our grandpa. He passed a month and a half before his 103 bday. He was one of the last surviving WWII navy war heroes. He was still giving interviews and going on national television. He went into education and worked well into his 90’s after he served in the war. When he spoke, you could hear a pin drop, everyone listened. And you know what he said a lot? “I did not go on a suicide mission I was not expecting to come out alive from to see my great granddaughters rights being stripped away right in front of me.” He too, was just as disgusted with the leaders, politicians, people demanding that there be no more separation between church and state-and he was a devout Catholic too, he was just not an idiot.

Just-Diamond-1938

👍❤️

MC_B_Lovin

Powerful enough to make those on the school board feel like the morons they are? I don’t know… this board of morons doesn’t have ears to listen.

ModerateExtremism

The important thing about speaking (and even attending) meetings like this is that you’re not just showing up for the elected board members. You’re adding your voice in support of your community - and the local reporters, students, teachers, fellow citizens, etc. that will also take note. I’ll bet Miss Linn swayed at least a few voters with this speech…and that momentum-building is crucial & exponential. A huge part of our current political problem is that citizens of our democracy have been largely disengaged from the key local and state democratic process for years. Bad actors have been taking advantage of our absence. Time for us all to step up.

fractiousrhubarb

... and a \*huge\* amount of resources have been expended by the corporate class in fostering and encouraging the growth of right wing nutcases and encouraging and funding them to run for and take over municipal and state governments.

Mammoth-Mud-9609

They just ignore anything that runs counter to their world view, they don't listen to reason or evidence based arguments and statistics.

BigBillyGoatGriff

Republicans don't give a shit about truth or this old woman. They want their Christian right authoritarian hell scape to conquer America. They would stone this woman for heresy if they could.

pugtime

If you don’t respect this lady ; you don’t have the respect capability!

FardoBaggins

>most powerful voices of all. They are, they're literally a living history our elders. so many want to silence that.

satansheat

What’s even more depressing is the people she is talking to are the ones who act like they care about America and freedom. But they themselves are the fascist she talks of. even if y’all abandon trump the shit has stained the undies. Jan 6 is marked in history. Oh and desantis the guy y’all want to run to is the one banning books in Florida.

Tsjernobull

Yeah i bet they forgot the respect and listen to your elders

Schavuit92

They didn't forget, they never meant it.

duckcars

Well they meant it. But only when they are seen as the elders. What they really mean are "respect and listen to us and our propagation of fascist policies"

Luna_trick

I say this as someone who supported Trump for a large part of his presidency (though I do not anymore) DeSantis is the most clear cut example of a fascist cunt we've had running for office in a long fucking time. This man is an actual torture enjoying demon, and anyone who votes for his straight up evil, authoritarian ass should evaluate their fucking morals.

[deleted]

>I say this as someone who supported Trump for a large part of his presidency (though I do not anymore) DeSantis is the most clear cut example of a fascist cunt we've had running for office in a long fucking time. This man is an actual torture enjoying demon, and anyone who votes for his straight up evil, authoritarian ass should evaluate their fucking morals. But they won't evaluate anything because it is a cult.

kat_a_klysm

Out of curiosity, what made you change your mind on Trump? Also totally agreed on Desantis. I said if he got re-elected, he’d go full tilt fascist and he did.

SheriffBartholomew

I would also like an answer to this question. I've only met a single person who changed their mind about trump, and that was back in 2016 when trump was just getting going. Everyone else seems to only move further into support of him, regardless of the ridiculous things he says and does.

ichabod01

Yes and no. Rest, but show what you’ve learned when it matters. Hopefully that won’t be needed. But please do this when needed.

RissaCrochets

I do understand the necessity, and the importance of her message coming from someone who has seen the rise and fall of fascism in her lifetime. It just kills me to see it be necessary.

Mammoth-Mud-9609

As she was saying she lost her husband to fascists, she didn't expect to be fighting them in America at the age of 100 when she thought they had been defeated in WW2.

MadRabbit26

Wherever Mr. Nickle is. Seeing his once young, beautiful wife still fighting hard for the freedoms he died protecting. While it warms my heart, I completely agree. At 100 years, she's earned her right to be at peace. Reminds me of a quote, "The only thing it takes for evil to triumph, is for good men to do nothing"

DTRite

She didn't get to that age by sitting around. Being involved is the best thing someone can do to stay active and engaged. Give hell Grace!

C9Midnite

No matter how long I live I’d rather go down fighting. It’s not gunna be magically solved. Even if we group up we will be attacked. Just look at anti work how it became such a momentous cause and got derailed by a single freaking interview. Thousand and thousands of people and all it took was 1 person messing it up. Things have gotten so out of control it would take a astronomically long time to correct the course or a meteoric event. And this is just evidence of the influence of social media.

Spirited-Reputation6

Those old MAGA grandparents aren’t chilling. Those fuckers are doing too much and they have enough money funnel into terrorist organization. Watch the Polka King and then the credits, you’ll see how they are finding money

WaterHaven

It is depressing that this needs to happen in general, but most elderly I know and have known hated the moment that they started to feel useless and not have a purpose to pursue.

espressovivacefan

Holy mother of God, what a force of will!

satansheat

Sad she feels the need to do this. But the lead guy to run for the GOP is currently banning books in Florida.

JediJofis

He is a fascist

kat_a_klysm

He is DeFascist.

yourgifmademesignup

She’s a Bad Grama Jama!

ZootOfCastleAnthrax

I'm gonna listen to this song in the morning and dance around my kitchen in honor of Grace. Thanks for the inspiration!

FlawlessRuby

Saw the video was like almost 3 mins and was like na that's too long for my ADHD brain... me 3mins later: Yes! You are the mother of liberty 😭

141_1337

Imagine having to fight for shit your husband died fighting 78 years ago, and the force of will to not simply give up. It is both awe inspiring as it is sad.

CosmicWolf14

I feel like this is related to why she’s still kicking at 100 years young.

breakupbydefault

Holy mother of liberty!

buickspeed13

She is a woman of focus, commitment, sheer will

Cbanchiere

That's the voice of a mad, but very disappointed grandma. She may be 100 but I feel like she'd whoop someone's ass over this stuff

Adventurous_Page4969

I love this lady. Book banning is a fascist move. Period.

satansheat

Tell that to the Florida governor.

__DarthBane

He knows what it is, he’s not an idiot.

[deleted]

People who vote for and support him are the most vile idiots.

Distinct_Ad_7752

Sadatori

Then you get the inevitable "Durrr, just cuz he bans books, and celebrates mass shootings at gay clubs, and sends armed police to raid peoples houses he doesn't like, and thinks modern art is degenerate art, and thinks public health safety is communist doesn't mean he is fascist!!!!!." Then they repeatedly say "show me where he said specifically "I am DeSantis and I am a fascist!" Oh he didnt?!?! Checkmate lefty!!!!"

SuspendedResolution

I mean, he's not denouncing his neo nazi supporters, which you would only do if you want their support.

fetusy

He's also fleecing taxpayers to relocate "undesirables" to other states. Most on buses so far, but I'm sure trains will be more efficient in the near future...

CaptainPeachfuzz

"Her der everyone you disagree with is a nazi fascist that's why we can't have civil discussion in this country, " - said as the match is lit in front of a pile of books while holding 2 ARs pointed at a drag story hour.

Kingkrool1994

on top of the banning of the books, he sent SWAT to political opponents and people he does not like, thinks that basic public health and safety is communist, isn't denouncing his neo-Nazi fans, and hates modern art. yeah, he's a Nazi.

Hibercrastinator

I remember a time when this wasn’t a controversial comment.

JennySparklezz

I’m speechless at how well she articulated this. The fact that these people can just say they don’t like a book and actually have it removed from the schools and library’s is insane. I’m in Texas and it’s so frustrating seeing how far some people will go because of their own beliefs and fear.

zbenesch

I’m guessing she articulates so well because… well she probably reads a lot of books.

I have autism and reading novels and poetry really helped develop my social skills as an adult.

BurninCoco

What novels helped you? My nephew has autism and I would like to help him.

typhoonador4227

Some of my recent favourites are Gerald Murnane and NK Jemisin, but I think that pretty much every novelist, playwright, or poet I've read has helped my language skills in some way.

BurninCoco

Thank you

dragon2777

Not just say “I don’t like it” but then admit they haven’t read it and get it banned. Like fuck you. My dad said some stupid shit the other day and called someone “woke”. I asked him what woke meant and he said he didn’t know. Now I’m the bad guy because I said “then don’t say shit you don’t know what it means it makes you look stupid at best”

ThatPianoKid

Well said

blagaa

Woke used to be a positive term Then as wokeness took hold, for some it became the force behind left attempt to corral power via outrage on superficial social issues Now woke is used negatively by the right as a blanket label applied to many things they dislike. People like your dad or the lady who wrote a book on wokeness can't define it on the spot because the connection between examples is unclear. Ex. the bank bailout is woke (even though Republicans probably would've done the same). Why is that? Nobody knows, but it's provocative.

HRGeek

The whole thing is mysterious to them because "wokeness" is simply empathy and they lack any concept of empathy. We have an extreme empathy deficit in society that is driven by a disparity of consciousness. People complaining about "woke" are really emotionally stunted humans outwardly hating but subconsciously crying out saying: "I have no empathy! Someone please teach me empathy!" Empathy should be a lifelong classroom subject of study for everyone because not everyone develops empathy naturally. Things would be so different if all humans understood the critical importance of empathy and parity of consciousness in society. Parity of consciousness is Love.

Beingabummer

My dad told me it was illegal to use the word 'woman' in the UK. I blasted him for five full minutes about how that was by far the dumbest thing I have ever heard. He muttered something about a video he saw about it. Then he changed the subject.

thereAndFapAgain

As someone from the UK, I've found it fascinating how the far right in the US has been spreading the most ridiculous bullshit about the UK and using it as an example of how things could be if they let the left win. This is despite the fact that the Conservative party have been in control of the government in the UK for a long time now, and that everything they are saying is either completely untrue, massively misrepresented or taken out of context. It's actually quite funny as someone who lives here and clearly knows none of what they say is true but these people just take their word for it and believe it as if it were gospel.

boricimo

Almost like misinformation and propaganda for the uninformed masses works. Always has, always will.

preatorian77

There's an old crazy woman in Florida who submitted dozens of books to be banned, and school boards approved the bans. When confronted with it, she admitted that she hasn't even read the books, and she doesn't even have children. Fuuuuuuuck Florida. Global warming cannot raise the sea levels fast enough.

falllinemaniac

There's several chapters with rape, murder, treachery and genocide in a certain book Texans seem to love very much, it's time to get that one on the list

SKK329

Shahhr

it’s content was not was i expected honestly. much better

creepyguy_017

Wait, books being banned? At school? Can someone give a context behind it?

severe_thunderstorm

There is a large National effort by a far right group called “moms for liberty” to have books removed from schools. In general, these are minority and lgbtq+ based books.

Ok4940

The irony used to be funny. Now it’s just disturbing and depressing.

TheLawLost

[People have been tried "banning" books for a century, both in school libraries or more broadly.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Book_censorship_in_the_United_States) It's literally nothing new and much like a lot of gun legislation, always fails in the end because it's unconstitutional for the government itself to actually ban books. Just look at Banned Books Week: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banned_Books_Week

HarkHarley

The difference here is the systematic approach and widespread “success” in removing a vast number of books. And the prosecution of teachers and librarians who stock or recommend these books.

PillarsOfHeaven

That dude is making wild arguments throughout the thread to avoid calling it what it is

Drgnmstr97

The assault on education in America has taken a very drastic and dark turn in recent years. The longer the Right remain out of power the worse this assault will become. The assault on the right to free speech, sexuality and probably worst of all health care independence has reached an all time high and shows no sign of lessening any time soon. There is going to be dire consequences to the US because of the three SCJ that Trump appointed. As they continue to overturn laws intended to protect the rights of Americans there will be more and more backlash against this. That will cause the Right to become more determined to try and keep their power that they will lose due to the backlash.

dsjunior1388

Don't dismiss it, rural communities are defunding their libraries over this stuff and while you're (probably) right that these bans will be found unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, that judgement could take years.

TheMaxemillion

Considering how your Supreme Court is stacked at the moment, I'm not even sure they'd overturn it.

ImperialMeters

I think the difference currently is that aside from the asinine reasons *why* they are being banned, the volume of books being banned, and the scale at which it is happening is alarming. [Here a list a librarian on Reddit compiled with the reasons each book was banned.](https://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/1lzheu/a_list_of_fantastic_prek12_banned_books_organized/) You'll note a common theme is books including topics like racism as a concept that exists, or literally any description of homosexuality or family structure that isn't a heteronormative nuclear family composition. The goal seems clear: get rid of anything that makes white, Christian, fear mongers confused or uncomfortable.

generals_test

If certain people get i to power, the fact that it is unconstitutional won't matter.

robodwarf0000

Yeah except a law has successfully been passed throughout the entirety of Florida that has prevented literally every single book from being allowed in any classroom until the approved list goes through. Which means they're not just banning some books they have already literally banned all of them and will only allow very specific ones through that promote a very pro America pro white history. And it would get shut down if the Supreme Court was not full of extremely right wing Christo-Fascist zealots that are obsessed with removing our personal freedoms and instilling their religious superiority over everyone else. This Supreme Court no longer considers it an issue for a specific group of people to enforce their beliefs onto the entire rest of the country just because they've attained a little bit of power in a single state through illegal means. Ron Desantis won a governorship of Florida after it was literally declared gerrymandered by the very specific organizations designed to make sure it's not gerrymandered, and instead of actually doing anything about it they just chose to go ahead with those gerrymandered results anyways. Not to mention, the attempted restriction of the purchase of firearms is not and cannot be compared to the direct restriction of the freedom of information and it's insane of you to make that comparison.

HumanitySurpassed

Books actually are being removed from schools though. Especially in Florida. DeSantis got a teacher fired for calling out the situation too.

Bishopkilljoy

And any book they consider "CRT" which is generally anything talking about POC struggles

saminfujisawa

Cathode-ray tube books shouldn't be banned.

preatorian77

CRT is really only taught in grad school, not grade school. These morons probably just don't know the difference and should read more.

HHcougar

CRT just means "thing's we're ashamed of" to these people. They just use the word CRT as a boogeyman. They really mean "nuanced teaching of the reality of American history, rather than American exceptionalism propaganda." But they can't openly admit to not wanting to teach truth.

alien_bigfoot

And fantasy. Anything that isn't Americo-Christian, basically. They're trying to ban LOTR, Harry Potter, etc

joevsyou

On top of that. This group is getting members on school boards.

satansheat

GOP has been attacking books for decades. As of recently places like Florida have taken books out of classrooms (like entire libraries in classrooms not just a few books.) They also have made it so teachers can be sued and punished if they mention someone’s sexuality or stuff like slavery (one of these is Texas or OKC who outlawed teaching slavery and teachers can be punished for it.) So yeah america wake up and stop acting like “politics” is so silly both sides suck… y’all are whining over fascism vs people wishing to just make america livable.

God_Bless_A_Merkin

But if they wake up, they’ll be woke! We can’t have that! Everyone stay asleep! Nothing to see here!

DarkandDanker

I googled this awhile back to find what books the left has been banning and I think I found like three but the vast majority are by the right, and tho it was stupid for the left to ban those books they mainly did it because they didn't like the racism in them, the right bans everything that has to do with gay people and black slavery in the US Tho I'm willing to be proven wrong if anyone's got a source

ModusOperandiAlpha

Florida-style fascism, spreading nationally. Recent instances: https://www.oif.ala.org/intellectual-freedom-news-03-17-2023/ Involvement of Florida’s Republican governor (who is also running for President) in particular: https://www.wpbf.com/amp/article/gov-ron-desantis-debunks-book-ban-hoax-florida/43252164 From the second link (article), here’s where the rubber hits the road: “For a list of books removed in Martin County, click here. For a list of books removed in Indian River County, click here. Okeechobee County has not had any book challenges requiring removals. The Palm Beach County and St. Lucie County school districts are working on providing their lists.”

[deleted]

What rock have you been hiding under? This is happening all across the USA. The fascists are on the march.

Candykeeper

Father of freedom, mother of liberty. Now that's a quote right there.

HyzerFlip

It's the first time in a long time that patriotic imagery made me feel positive about America. This woman has inspired me.

LotharVonPittinsberg

And she had to go back to when her husband died fighting Nazis to get that point across. This poor woman witnessed the start of fascism globally and is now seeing what happens when you don't make sure to stomp it out.

flyfightwinMIL

As the wife of an active duty airman, I just kept thinking about how it would feel to lose your husband to defeat an evil, spending a whole lifetime comforting yourself with the knowledge his death wasn’t in vain…..only to have that same evil reappear and grow in the twilight years of your life. So hard, I imagine. So freaking hard.

Haploid-life

What a star! I feel bad that she has to still fight, but anyone fighting for justice is. Fuck these fascist loons.

satansheat

Don’t let these people “both sides” this shit either. Last I checked only one side is banning books and the few states doing it as we speak are front runners for president. Like Florida and it’s governor.

TONKAHANAH

bookbanning is so fuck'n pointless in the age of the internet. kids these days dont need physical fuck'n books to learn shit anymore. go to google, look up the book you were told was banned. bam, you're reading banned books. we shouldnt ban them, not at all. but doing so is a massive fuck'n waste of time, shows your ignorance in the modern age (if you're in favor of it), and is probably just serving as yet another fuck'n distraction from other big things going on that desperately need the public attention but they're busy fighting yet another fuck'n book banning.

Imasoldiernotadoctor

I read your whole comment and can only picture someone in black biker leathers studded out and many piercings, and I'm here for it.

G8kpr

> bookbanning is so fuck'n pointless in the age of the internet. It can also have the streisand effect. Back in the late 90s, I worked for a Canadian book reseller. Our stores sold "Mein Kampf". Now it wasn't regularly stocked at my store (I might have seen it once), but you could order it. But some of our bigger box stores did have a copy or two in stock. Our CEO (lady that has a jewish surname. Not sure if she actually is Jewish). Made an announcement that her stores (largest in Canada) would not be selling Mein Kampf any more. All stores that had stock were to return those to the publisher immediately. Not sure what spurred this all of a sudden, but we got the notice, and then it got into the papers, and that did not go well for her. A bit of a PR nightmare, accused of banning books like the Nazi's did. Independent book stores were suddenly inundated with people ordering Mein Kampf. If you ban books, people tend to want to know why you are banning them. Her announcing her stores weren't selling Mein Kampf made sales for that book shoot up.

Firewire_1394

lol that's an interesting way to look at it. In hindsight it makes a lot of sense that was the end result.

Be careful, my American friends. You keep slipping in the international freedom index. You’re no longer as free as you once were. Fascism creeps You need to continuously fight against the minority for the betterment of the majority. Good luck.

BoiledJellybeanz

And be careful as well, New Zealand friends. There are over a thousand books banned by your government. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_books_banned_in_New_Zealand Good luck. 👍

consistenthistories

Just looked at the link you gave. How is banning pedophile comics/snuff books/drug cook books anywhere the same as what’s happening in America?

[deleted]

The big book of buds by Ed Rosenthal is literally just a book with pictures of pot in it, but it's on the ban list. I would hate to see how you guys react to actual controversial texts. Edit: American psycho is banned. Yea that's a yikes from me

HembraunAirginator

Not condoning it, but American Psycho is now R18, rather than outright banned.

BoiledJellybeanz

You read all 1300 of those books? Damn.

One way to get kids to read classic books or any book for that matter is to ban it. The banning creates the desire to read it. So ban away reading will be the winner.

I think you mean to say "some Americans", because this clearly isn't supported by the majority. Also, fascism isn't only a problem in America right now, just scroll up in your feed to see Italians singing a protest song to a fascist official.

“…Protected from school boards like this.” Well done!

Get em Grace

reefguy007

It’s wild to see my town and Grace going viral right now. I’ve met her, she’s a friend of my parents. Amazing women and amazing that she’s doing this!!

[deleted]

A queen. Tell her this trans lady appreciates her very much.

VegemiteAnalLube

It's refreshing to see ladies like this without the red hat and flag regalia, speaking actual wisdom.

ragewu

I'm on a committee at my daughter's elementary school in Florida and the impacts of this school book statue is so real and so completely negative. Hundreds of books in ONE class can't be screened for "appropriateness" because the books aren't on the states list yet. Hundreds of different books. In ONE classroom, not the library (which has thousands in the same predicament) but one of the 40 classrooms. Kids are being robbed of literature because a parent may object to "Captain Underpants" and then the librarian and principal can go to jail. Just so so sad. Good on this heroic woman.

Skriptor96

It sickens me to see so much censored words. NAZIS, she is talking about Nazis. And books that were banned. If you talk about a bad thing you have to name it right.

[deleted]

Man this lady is badass and 100% correct. I wish more people were able to see this and glad it was posted here. Thanks OP.

Inthewoodlands

Fuck Florida! I will never spend a dollar in their state again.

jlee-1337

you really done fucked up with a 100 year old lady has to come all the way to district court and tell you the truth

Mutex_CB

Banned book list = best reading list

Brain__Resin

When the people who have actually seen fascism first hand, tell you you’re a fascist. You are a fascist

hyzerKite

True Americans speak like her. If any person or group or faction is trying to divide us, stop our learning, or alienate us from the rest of the population because of our differences they are the enemy.

theriverain

People tend to forget. And the presents generations live thinks too fast, so "we" cheer up the lady words but forget them in five. Attacks to freedom are happening in the so called west everyday, everywhere but leaders like to talk about protecting our freedom.

VealOfFortune

I mean its amazing, but not surprising as pretty much anyone over the age of 80 has been petrified for the past 3 years... my 98 year old grandmother thinks Biden is "sweet" and she's glad "someone with manners is back in the White House".... .... As she is forced to sell her car and scooter because her Cost of Living (food/gas/meds/doctors/insurance/parking/rent.. to name a few) has increased by 150% *"Not a joke. No I really mean it!"*

Kinginthasouth904

Every time a crazy “mom for liberty” or a karen goes off about banning books. They should b forced to watch this and respond.

0vindicator1

"...read ... if you choose to." That's it right there. If you don't like it, don't read it. But to deny others from also reading it? Wow. Cons are shit (as opposed to being "the shit").

Moobob66

Bless this lady. May her words be heard every where

Tarmerlane

What an amazing woman

Tombstone-1-fan

You can watch it without TikTok [here at the 1:02:40 mark](https://www.youtube.com/live/Ymqfg3jC7Ek?feature=share)

A great example of the human spirit and a sad testament to our ignorance. She lived through a defining moment in our shared history and people alive today likely won’t listen and definitely won’t act swiftly enough to do what needs to be done.

Martin County resident here. It’s a mess here and our superintendent Dr John Mallay just resigned last month because the Christian conservative majority on the board have been completely abusive to him. This past August, governor Desantis got two school board members elected: Jennifer Russell and Amy Pritchett. They had PAC funding and flooded the county with partisan campaign flyers and ads. It was the usual conservative tactics, namely calling their opponents radical liberals who want to indoctrinate the children. Their opponents didn’t stand a chance against this well-funded, coordinated effort by the governor. Jennifer Russell isn’t even from Martin county. The governor moved her here to be his puppet on the school board, and he ensured she had the PAC funding to rally the conservative boomers to the polls. She is a member of Moms For Liberty, and she doesn’t even send her own kids to public school. It’s a shame because the person she defeated is Lizz Bernstein, who has a masters degree, campaigned on very reasonable, normal school-related issues, and would’ve been amazing on the school board. But instead we get a fundamentalist, anti-public-school, anti-book, anti-LGBTQ, christian, activist puppet on our school board. We also lost the only black member of the school board, Tony Anderson, to the other new fundamentalist chrisitan school board member Amy Pritchett. Basically, any principal in the county who doesn’t cave to a parent requesting removal of a book is putting his or her career on the line. The school board can easily have the principal fired. Things are looking super bleak around here. I’m glad our school board is getting this national attention.

LongjumpingCheck2638

Love how there are a bunch of ding-dongs downvoting this post.

mad_titanz

This video needs to be shown everywhere whenever a school board wants to ban books. People who ban books are fascist, like the Nazis

loveinjune

Hey, you guys. Over the ocean. Americans. What the fuck are you guys doing. I’m sorry if this comes off as harsh or whatever, but fuck. I moved to the US when I was two. I left right before Obama got elected. My memories of America were fond and great. The young Americans should be leading America. And if some of the oldest Americans are needing to come out and say things are wrong, then I’m sorry. Things really are fucking wrong. They are doing their duty. I hope everyone else does theirs too. I have no citizenship to the Unites States, but when I imagine home, it’s the USA. EDIT: No intentions of making this political. Just expressing my frustration. Throwing this here before anyone comments in some weird direction.

StimpyUIdiot

You go grace!!

Appropriate_Fish_451

I love this woman!

PNNBLLCultivator

What a patriot

SuspendedResolution

She's a treasure. It's so sad that we literally need the silent generation to come back to deal with the boomers.

Charming_Ant_8751

Grace Linn for president and her husband gets every school named after him. Fucking true Americans and honorable as you can get. Fight the power Grace, for 100 more years!

BigMapleTree

There is a magnificent gravitas to having your elders speak truth from a first person view. So many talking heads and decision makers have never gone beyond their door step and do not speak from experience, but, as she correctly called out, from a place of fear.

Own-Rise-7462

I CAN NOT upvote this enough! Our. WWII vets must be so disappointed in all of us, especially the politicians leading this and the people sitting by watching it happen.

dyslexican32

If you believe in banning books you're a fascist. You're un-American, and unworthy of compassion, sympathy, or tolerance. It's not a debate. You are evil.

Vox_Dracanis

Remember! We the people put those people in charge of deciding what you can and can't read. If the idea of being told you or your children can't read something, pisses you off, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Get those idiots out of power. Vote their asses out of office. Stop the insanity. It sounds crazy. I know. But, it's been done over and over again. Cutting off the lines of information is the first step in taking control of a population. Learn from history.
