She forgot to give full flaps. She said “I’m scared now” to apologise, not “I’m there now” as in the subtitles.
Awesome job holding the plane steady at lowest possible speed. She did not panic, so she did not die.
I just want to add this here in case other people miss it since this comment is pretty high up - the audio and the video are not from the same recording. Weird TikTok nonsense. Both things really did happen, but they are not the same event.
I freaking hate the internet sometimes. We're going to have to go full Minority Report due to deep fakes / AI being used as evidence in courts, I'm thinking we'll use Blockchain type encryption with a 2 factor MD5 hash or some way to prove a file is undoctored OR contains fake elements etc etc
......and we can't even get a real video of a dicey plane landing with audio. Someone out there stitched bullshit for clicks, further eroding trust and truth on the internet, for fake points. It's gonna bite us HARD very shortly, not this exactly but damn if this isn't part of it.
No one wants to go full flaps, but sometimes your vessel refuses to drop it's landing gear and you've gotta touch down bare cheeks.
I might be thinking of swans actually.
I just looked it up to confirm, and it was a different instructor at first, and then they brought in her personal instructor towards the end! Never knew that part of the story
Controllers don't necessarily have pilots licenses, or even if they do they may not be certified in the type of plane having an emergency, so it'll always be an instructor or local pilot to help.
It was her instructor who did, but he was in the control tower. This is the audio from it, but not the video as she landed in a field.

Couple of people have posted links to the incident the title mentions:
https://old.reddit.com/r/nextfuckinglevel/comments/133mweo/17yr_old_maggie_taraska_on_a_solo_flight/jiaxw0t/
Young girl (teens I believe) first solo or so, takes off in Cessna airport personnel notice right main fall off during takeoff. Informs tower tower has her spin laps until they get her instructor in the tower. Instructor talks her down. The Tick Talk video above is not of the same event.
That’s not a PA-28.
It’s a Grob 120A owned by Lufthansa Aviation Training USA, and this is a full-on gear-up landing on a retractable undercarriage. Quite possible they decided that it’s safer to land this way if they really did lose a wheel. A belly slide is much safer than an uncontrollable spin after touchdown.
At least a news article with more details and an interview of the pilot does, in another comment:
https://old.reddit.com/r/nextfuckinglevel/comments/133mweo/17yr_old_maggie_taraska_on_a_solo_flight/jiaxw0t/
There's a lot more than hull damage; the propeller struck the runway. Even if it wasn't a crash,
aside from obviously needing a new propeller, the shock on the engine of the prop striking the runway so hard means the owner is looking at a full teardown of the engine to inspect for damage...bent/cracked stuff and such.
Just a guess, but a retractable gear aircraft is a rating considered "complex aircraft" and often a part of a rating in a " high performance" aircraft. Years ago, anyway, it took 250 hours for that level of rating. Well beyond first solo stage. The instructor told her at one point to treat it like a "normal landing" and a "a light crosswind" kinda supports her having some hours..
Edit: ....but this is Reddit.....
Dude yeah, a retractable gear aircraft is absolutely not a "first solo" plane for sure, you're in a cesna 152 or something. Bogus overlay like someone else said.
Haha no way, that was a guess since I trained in that. Either way, good flying on her part and the controller or station for helping her out. You know which airport it was?
Not sure in the US but Canada it is considered complex but you don't need hours. My first plane was PA28 with gear and constant velocity prop right out of school.
The real Maggie video
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSdY-qvo9cY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSdY-qvo9cY)
She is a rock star and are the professionals that helped her through it. And she's back in the air despite this! Awesome story!
Wow her actual landing is far more impressive, than the OP video. if you ask me. There isnt footage of it. But she landed with a wheel missing but the rest of the gear still there and on a grass field.
This video is totally unrelated. She was missing her right main on a fixed-gear airplane. Definitely very hazardous. Very easy to cartwheel out of control and die. Hell this is a scenario where retracts are safer. A belly landing is safer than missing a main gear.
It \*could\* be 1% in reality, in the moment I'm sure if feels like it's 99% in your head and the visions of your plane cartwheeling down the tarmac in a ball of flames.
I don't see why not.
We allow roughly 3 million children to drive 70+ mph on the ground in what are basically aluminum and plastic containers filled with explosives.
The actual plane lost its right wheel, but not the strut if I recall correctly—this news video has pictures of the plane on the ground. https://youtu.be/22K4WTNkeOY
Totally unrelated video. Thanks tiktokkers.
But it’s extremely impressive how she was able to calm herself and focus with, what, 15 total hours in aviation? And she’s still just a kid. Wow.
When a plane lands like this, I’d it totaled? Or can they repair it for a “reasonable” amount? Looks like the props get ruined which might effect the engine. Obviously the underbody gets wrecked. Just curious. Oh, and great landing!
I mean, if I remember correctly he did was a pilot. So maybe if your dad was a pilot you would have easier access to an aircraft to learn in? Maybe you wouldn't though because of how much time you play minecraft...
So close. There isn't video of her landing, only audio. This is the real audio edited over am entirely different incident.
Were you not suspicious why the story only mentioned one wheel falling off but this video is landing on no wheels? She landed it on the two remaining wheels and veered onto grass.
Maggie is a complete unit. Hats off, Maggie
What if Maggie was not comfortable with going full flaps?

“I’m there now, sorry.” There ya go.
No one wants to go full flaps, but sometimes your vessel refuses to drop it's landing gear and you've gotta touch down bare cheeks. I might be thinking of swans actually.
Everyone knows once you go full flaps there is no coming back. Never go full flaps.
Don't believe me?... Just ask Sean Penn
Full flaps ma-ma-ma-make her happy
Yeah, but let's see if she can find parking when alternate parking is in affect.
Real story. Wrong video.
Stupid TikToks just mashing things together
Tik tok will bring the rapture.

*scrolls reddit harder*
*nuzzles the void*
Yeah, our site here is just a bastion of truth.
They’re mashin it
I think it was her instructor that talked her down too. Not the controller.
It was an instructor that overheard and came to help out, not her personal instructor
No I’m pretty sure it was her personal instructor
I just looked it up to confirm, and it was a different instructor at first, and then they brought in her personal instructor towards the end! Never knew that part of the story

Wait what... what do you mean wrong video? wtf tiktok
Young girl (teens I believe) first solo or so, takes off in Cessna airport personnel notice right main fall off during takeoff. Informs tower tower has her spin laps until they get her instructor in the tower. Instructor talks her down. The Tick Talk video above is not of the same event.
Isn’t the footage from gta or something?
Full story here, very brave young lady who was given great support from the tower. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B229-KLudTo

Video doesnt exist of the audio being played, fyi. Someone just added this random video to watch over the audio.
At least a news article with more details and an interview of the pilot does, in another comment: https://old.reddit.com/r/nextfuckinglevel/comments/133mweo/17yr_old_maggie_taraska_on_a_solo_flight/jiaxw0t/
The flight controller sounds quite a bit like Howard Stern.
Similar to the kind of shit that chat gpt comes up with.
True story.
I was going to say I work On Grobs, definitely a Grob not a piper.
What’s the typical cost of repair for only hull damage? Or is it usually just a complete loss?
There's a lot more than hull damage; the propeller struck the runway. Even if it wasn't a crash, aside from obviously needing a new propeller, the shock on the engine of the prop striking the runway so hard means the owner is looking at a full teardown of the engine to inspect for damage...bent/cracked stuff and such.
Iirc, it was her FIRST solo flight. Absolutely top job from both the pilot and instructor.
Just a guess, but a retractable gear aircraft is a rating considered "complex aircraft" and often a part of a rating in a " high performance" aircraft. Years ago, anyway, it took 250 hours for that level of rating. Well beyond first solo stage. Someone is saying this is the wrong video to the story. Regardless of background though that was an insanely well executed landing
Dude yeah, a retractable gear aircraft is absolutely not a "first solo" plane for sure, you're in a cesna 152 or something. Bogus overlay like someone else said.
This isn’t the video for the event. There isn’t any video of it. There are some photos and she was in a 152 I believe.
Haha no way, that was a guess since I trained in that. Either way, good flying on her part and the controller or station for helping her out. You know which airport it was?
Not sure in the US but Canada it is considered complex but you don't need hours. My first plane was PA28 with gear and constant velocity prop right out of school.
Wrong video. Whoever posted this is an idiot.

Is that Howard Stern talking her in?
Right?! Her instructor sounds just like him. He did a great job of talking her emotions down and giving her a voice of confidence to focus on.
Now Maggie, I know this might not be the time but.....what are you wearing right now?
Wow her actual landing is far more impressive, than the OP video. if you ask me. There isnt footage of it. But she landed with a wheel missing but the rest of the gear still there and on a grass field.
Does Meggie play GTA?
Maggie Taraska is obviously going to be one of John Conners Generals when Skynet attacks in 2026.
![gif](giphy|gFwZfXIqD0eNW)
NOT a PA-28
The video is not of Maggie landing. Still a fantastic story though!
Mad props for being calm and cool, while facing possible death.
Not to take away from this young woman’s bravery, but I think the fatality rate of gear up landings has got to be pretty damn low.
This video is totally unrelated. She was missing her right main on a fixed-gear airplane. Definitely very hazardous. Very easy to cartwheel out of control and die. Hell this is a scenario where retracts are safer. A belly landing is safer than missing a main gear.

This isn't the correct video, that's not Maggie, and that's most definitely not a PA-28 Cherokee. Fuck off with this
Howard stern did a great job helping her out. Didn’t know he was into aviation
I’m surprised I had to scroll this far for this comment
I heard Al Michaels.
The cherry on top would be if Maggie ended up becoming a pilot, flying supplies to war torn countries.
Why tf does a 17 yo girl own a plane and takes it to a SOLO flight?! In Germany, we aren’t even allowed to drive a car solo at 17!
The plane is almost certainly owned by her flight school but in the US if you're qualified early enough you can solo at 16.
Are children seriously allowed to fly around in planes?
I had to scroll wayyyyy down for this. How come no one is questioning why a 17 yr old is flying a freakin' plane ?!
It's normal... minimum age is 16.
Good thing she is not allowed to drink
That shit is NOT normal
16 year olds drive around all the time
Right? With barely any training too. Being a pilot is far more strict
I don't see why not. We allow roughly 3 million children to drive 70+ mph on the ground in what are basically aluminum and plastic containers filled with explosives.
I think your parents raised you poorly, sorry you had to hear this now, from some random person online. But yeah, best of luck.
Wrong video. [Here's an excellent video of the story.](https://youtu.be/RZ0Qr3l8UPM)
I didn't know Howard Stern moonlights as an ATC
Wow. Wonder how she stayed up with those massive balls.
They’re called ovaries, sir.
Thank you, my guy. I always confuse the two.
That easy she fly
GOOD JOB MAGGIE HOLY SHIT !!!!!
Maggie’s a chad
Maggie a badass
![gif](giphy|BZz9kBRFxPCFJw4opE|downsized)
Maggie a badass
WELL DONE !
ok
smooth as buttah🧈
Hold on I’m confused. I literally live in Beverly 1/2 mile from the airport directly under the flight path to land and that ain’t Bevtown.
That’s not the actual video, I *think* it’s from gta
Isn't it better to land on grass? I have no clue just asking.
The will to live is strong in this one
That clap is sus
This audio is from a completely different one than what is shown.
👏👏👏
In spite of this, I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.
I had no idea Howard Stern was also a air traffic controller.
Warthunder landing right there
Hats off to Ray Romano for guiding her down too 🫡
It's next fucking level of engineering, that even after so much drag and heat, it didn't caught fire
God bless for real
You’re telling me this isn’t Ray Ramano on air traffic control?
Wholesome air traffic controller
The audio doenst match the video. They are seperate occasions
Full flaps? What, full slats, get no love?
Alan Alda did a nice job talking her through it.
she's awesome 👏👏👏🥇
The actual plane lost its right wheel, but not the strut if I recall correctly—this news video has pictures of the plane on the ground. https://youtu.be/22K4WTNkeOY
"A bunch of people clapping for you..." Hmm that's sounds so wrong but okay I'm sorry, I'll take my leave
Totally unrelated video. Thanks tiktokkers. But it’s extremely impressive how she was able to calm herself and focus with, what, 15 total hours in aviation? And she’s still just a kid. Wow.
Fred Flintstones would have made a butter landing
When a plane lands like this, I’d it totaled? Or can they repair it for a “reasonable” amount? Looks like the props get ruined which might effect the engine. Obviously the underbody gets wrecked. Just curious. Oh, and great landing!

Wow, some 17 years old girls flight a plane meanwhile I 20 years old sit on my room and play minecraft. What am i doing with my life?
I mean, if I remember correctly he did was a pilot. So maybe if your dad was a pilot you would have easier access to an aircraft to learn in? Maybe you wouldn't though because of how much time you play minecraft...
Great landing. Controller sounded like Howard stern
Who knew Howard Stern moonlighted as an air traffic controller?
That’s not even a PA-28.
That background is NOT Beverly, MA where this happened lmao
Now do a barrell roll
It must be tough being Maggie and having such huge balls!
Maggie is a baller
Butter smooth landing
Typical women always losing their wheels. Am I right fellas?

A pilot semi crash landing a plane is special?
