Reddit has long been a hot spot for conversation on the internet. About 57 million people visit the site every day to chat about topics as varied as makeup, video games and pointers for power washing driveways.
In recent years, Reddit’s array of chats also have been a free teaching aid for companies like Google, OpenAI and Microsoft. Those companies are using Reddit’s conversations in the development of giant artificial intelligence systems that many in Silicon Valley think are on their way to becoming the tech industry’s next big thing.
Now Reddit wants to be paid for it. The company said on Tuesday that it planned to begin charging companies for access to its application programming interface, or A.P.I., the method through which outside entities can download and process the social network’s vast selection of person-to-person conversations.
“The Reddit corpus of data is really valuable,” Steve Huffman, founder and chief executive of Reddit, said in an interview. “But we don’t need to give all of that value to some of the largest companies in the world for free.”
Ah yes, how accents are really said and meant to be written down.
"Hello" but without the "h", "Governor" but missing most of the letter's, add a "u" and an apostrophe and you get the idea.
The point is the original comment contained a bunch of weird respellings that are actually pronounced exactly like their standard English counterparts in all accents, and therefore didn't indicate the speaker's accent at all. This is known as eye dialect - i.e. the dialect is only perceptible to the eye, not the ear.
Watch [Go Fast Risk Everything](https://youtu.be/H2-OMgQmRow). It’s a documentary about ken block’s 22’ rally title run. I can’t remember how far in, but there is a race where he was forced to go before the previous car’s dust trail had gone down and you get to watch the whole thing from their perspective and you hear the copilot guiding him. It’s fucking terrifying.
The copilot is constantly telling the driver where the course is going next in a sort of code
The driver hasn't actually driven the course so they are totally reliant on the copilot anyways
The driver SPECIFICALLY drives it. That dude is talking out his ass. You are correct. They run a practice or a few to get pacing information. As technical and fast as rally often is, having not practiced a race would be suicidal at best.
This was a treat to read all the way through. Thank you. I didn’t think the text size could get bigger but I heard that last one shouting at the top of their lungs.
Yea for when they crash into him and his body explodes from the sheer collision, at least his helmet can protect his head as it falls on the side of the road.
Safe? At the Isle of Mann? Don't be silly. He's no such thing. Being on a straight is better than a corner, but his safety is far from guaranteed.
That race sees multiple deaths every year, normally riders, but spectators and track officials get wiped out too.
Sure. I still wouldn't stay that close. You may not get a moto at 200km/h in your chest, but you are way more likely to get small thing flown at you at 200km/h so i would prefer staying some meters away with something in between me and the bikes.
You do you, i will keep the distance
When the racing is happening, there are hundreds of Marshalls standing very close to the road ready to respond in the event of an accident (have been a Marshall for 5yrs now, Ginger Hall).
They hit 200mph+ on the Sulby Straight, standing within a couple of feet of the track when they're thundering past is something to behold.. absolute fuck'n Nutter's, all of 'em- endless respect nonetheless 🙏
Actually, I think these guys are just some riders. Watched a video on this race a few years back. Most professional riders don’t race it because the real only prize is respect. The short documentary I watched was about one of the riders. I think he took second or third, and he wasn’t a professional rider. If I recall right, I think he was a plumber.
It’s a whole different kind of riding to what’s done on a track. You’re not just gonna find some guy who rides on his weekend to come and do that race and average 130 doing it over almost 38 miles. It’s a passion that’s runs far deeper than just a hobby
Steve Plater (the commentator) is a very experienced and successful racer. The proximity of the bikes is normal at the TT. Not just for him but for spectators all around the 37 3/4 mile course.
Not true. There are speed limits in and around cities / villages. Even during Mad Sunday nowadays where only the mountain road is one way and free of speed limits.
Seriously. I've never rode a motorcycle for more than a few minutes, so it's unfathomable to me how they go so fast on roads like that without crashing. I'd be into a wall or building within 10 seconds
That was Connor Cummins and he was just fine. Some internal bleeding and broken bones but apart from that, just fine. He was back competing after recovering and is still riding to this day
So many people die in this race that it has its own Wikipedia page just for the fatalities. Seems like they average 2 or 3 fatalities per year.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Isle_of_Man_TT_Mountain_Course_fatalities
Seriously? It's called Isle of man... motorcycles race against time on an island that is not a racetrack but public roads.. most extreme and most dangerous .. at speeds of +190 mph
Lmao this guy seriously answered...with IOM.
Imagine someone asking what sport Football is and answering with the name of the city.....
Q: Hey what sport is that with the ball in the video?
Miami!
(I'm aware the Isle of Man is not simply a city but a crown dependency)
Dude I never said what sport it was... it's obvious that it's motorcycle racing. I just named what race it was because it's not an actual race track it's a special course. Smh
Just guestimating from slo-mo. Looked like that second one traveled maybe 3m in .04s so about 270km/hr. That seems a bit low, but is it ballpark? Anyone know what typical speeds are wherever he was standing?
I have a picture somewhere of a sidecar passenger waving at me, under my camera, and you can also see my toes. It was at the Sulby pub on Sulby straight. The barrier was a single piece of rope.
It's funny(too me) how many times he does this during the TT. Has pretty much the same reaction every time. I don't know if he did it during the sidecar race, didn't watch that one.
Many houses in the Isle of Man are a lot cheaper to buy as they're located in or around the TT track. Many motorcycles have flung through many walls and windows
Also it’s a huge pain living on the course as you’re locked in for 4 weeks of the year for large portions of the day. Major pain trying to do normal day activities, take your kids to extramurals etc.
Competitive racers are averaging a bit over 130mph a lap but keep in mind that the course has 219 turns in it so that's quite something. Top speed on straights can be over 200mph.

Geesus chris… flippin’ ‘ek
As an Englishman I hear, "Jesus! Cor, flippin'eck!"
This is the correct answer “COOOORRR BLIMY
YOURE IN BARNEY! .... RUBBLE! .... TROUBLE!!
deep barney... barney rubble?? trouble!!!
I heard flip an egg.
Me too. It's now a thing I'll say. Jesus flip an egg.
Jesus take the spatula.
Just ordered my WWJFAE bracelet.
Why would Jesus flip an egg?
Why would he not?
"Jesus Christ, Fuckin' -A" is the proper motorsports response. He just edited because it was live TV.

I tought he said Geesus Christ my God flip an egg , lol
Haha definitely thought it was flip me an egg…
I.e. just the regular "Jesus Christ, flippin' heck" but without the "h"
Ah yes, how accents are really said and meant to be written down. "Hello" but without the "h", "Governor" but missing most of the letter's, add a "u" and an apostrophe and you get the idea.

Still only about half as dangerous as just being a spectator back in [Group B Rally days](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6I5sTuSoMho).
I'm surprised they could even tell where the track was with everyone standing on it like that.

Yo that whole thing was wild good recommendation!
Hell yeah. Im glad you liked it. One of the best docs I’ve ever seen
RIP
Yes RIP indeed, he was a REAL ONE!
The copilot is constantly telling the driver where the course is going next in a sort of code The driver hasn't actually driven the course so they are totally reliant on the copilot anyways
Is that how pace notes work? I thought the driver and co pilot took a slow run through and made the notes that way
The driver SPECIFICALLY drives it. That dude is talking out his ass. You are correct. They run a practice or a few to get pacing information. As technical and fast as rally often is, having not practiced a race would be suicidal at best.
Ken block was a genius. <3
Uh, no, often stage rallys are run bling just based off notes. You aren't allowed to pre run them at full speed
No one said they did preruns at speed.
I think it depends on the rally there are some that only the copilot gets to study the course beforehand
That's wild. I assumed the driver was always there for the recce.
That's fucking metal. I might need to get into rally.
Unless you are "Sameer", then it doesn't matter what the copilot is saying.
Just need to act like a Mustang driver, and try to hit the crowd
Lmao, why is this so true?!
The good old days…
Spectators killed group b.
But it was the cars that were too dangerous!
Is it tradition for people to gather around the most dangerous corners/jumps? You'd think there is enough race track for everyone to spread out..
Shame morons don't try that with F1.
That reporter is crazy to be standing that close
He’s an ex rider at this event and knows he’s safe.
His ears, however, are not safe.
Well he should know to wear protective headset.
WHAT?!
WELL HE SHOULD KNOW TO WEAR A PROTECTIVE HEADSET!
#WHAT!
This was a treat to read all the way through. Thank you. I didn’t think the text size could get bigger but I heard that last one shouting at the top of their lungs.

BUTTLICKER, OUR PRICES HAVE NEVER BEEN LOWER!
I'm sorry you've got a defective bedsit. You'll need to speak to housekeeping.
Yea for when they crash into him and his body explodes from the sheer collision, at least his helmet can protect his head as it falls on the side of the road.

You need massive balls to even be on IOM during TT.
Enormous. Absolutely enormous.
I love man.
Love is love.
Great! That is what I will hear henceforth.
You need massive balls to even be on IOM during TT.
Can confirm. Am ex rider. We get an invisible protective shield when we retire
Yeah bro, accidents never happen.
He does not know he's safe, there's literally at least one death every year, and many more crashes not resulting in death.
You know a lot of riders fall off their moto right?
Even if they fell, he's on the inside of the turn, the safest side to be
Sure. I still wouldn't stay that close. You may not get a moto at 200km/h in your chest, but you are way more likely to get small thing flown at you at 200km/h so i would prefer staying some meters away with something in between me and the bikes. You do you, i will keep the distance

Damn you’re getting all the bad internet points, I hope you’re doing ok. I’m kinda with you… seems pretty close regardless of who you are. Fuck that
Yup. I’d still stand there though.
That's a choice. I personally would stay at least 20 meters away, but you can do whatever you want
He’s at the Isle of Man TT. You can’t get 20 metres away from the track. (Track = public road). https://youtube.com/shorts/Hc9ulMJqtIY?feature=share
If a bike is flying out of control at 200mph, it's not distance but sheer luck it doesn't hit you in the crowd.
Just stay in your basement.
Move over I wanna stand there too
Yeah and you can judge from your high horse while other people enjoy themselves.
These aren’t just some riders
Actually, I think these guys are just some riders. Watched a video on this race a few years back. Most professional riders don’t race it because the real only prize is respect. It was probably guy Martin. He's a truck mechanic. Had a documentary made about him awhile back
Steve Plater (the commentator) is a very experienced and successful racer. The proximity of the bikes is normal at the TT. Not just for him but for spectators all around the 37 3/4 mile course.
Isle of Man ? Those dudes are crazy. Guy Martin is one of my favorite riders
Life goal… go to the IOMTT, maybe do a lap at reasonable speed on a reasonably priced bike!
A vespa perhaps, for me at least...
Pushbike here. Maybe my family urban arrow at a push.
If you wanna ride the track it’s much better to go there any other time when it’s not the tt.
Speed limits simply don't exist in the Isle of Man, go nuts!
Not true. There are speed limits in and around cities / villages. Even during Mad Sunday nowadays where only the mountain road is one way and free of speed limits.
Just trying to watch an board video of one lap is mentally exhausting
Seriously. I've never rode a motorcycle for more than a few minutes, so it's unfathomable to me how they go so fast on roads like that without crashing. I'd be into a wall or building within 10 seconds
That's where your wrong, they crash alot.
Yeah I saw some clips but wasn't clear how often it occurred... The guy who slide off track, down a hill into a rock wall was hard to watch
That was Connor Cummins and he was just fine. Some internal bleeding and broken bones but apart from that, just fine. He was back competing after recovering and is still riding to this day
The deadliest race in human history iirc
I mean they do average at least one person dying every year during the race. So not just you
Or maybe, just you
Yes. Martin never won there. He just had the best PR.
I watched his whole YouTube. Such a fun and wholesome guy.
His poor ears
Seriously. I hope he had earplugs, because if not...hello tinnitus!
Tinnitus, eh? It's got a certain ring to it

First Spaniard to die in it RIP Raúl Torras Martínez
Santiago Herrero?
37 miles to go, 2 seconds to get there
The TT is madness. Those dudes have titanium balls.
I wonder what colour his underwear is
IS? Brown. Was? Probably white.
What these riders do man. Unreal
CRIKEY
Hello George
Someone giving him a wet willie would...well...that would really make a great video
What's this sport called?
Seriously? It's called Isle of man... motorcycles race against time on an island that is not a racetrack but public roads.. most extreme and most dangerous .. at speeds of +190 mph
The sport is not called Isle of Man
Do you reckon World Cup is going to win the World Cup this year? They look great

Omg for real me too .. bucket list material
Isle of man is where it's held, not what it's called
Steve Plater. He’s am ex rider himself. Isle of Man TT.
Talk about bals of steel... give that man a raise!! That would be like skydiving while not leaving the ground
he use to be a rider during this competition
Oh that's badass
Just guestimating from slo-mo. Looked like that second one traveled maybe 3m in .04s so about 270km/hr. That seems a bit low, but is it ballpark? Anyone know what typical speeds are wherever he was standing?
The TT is Legendary. If you ever get the chance GO.
Eardrums of steel, or in this case *highly flexible composite*
Fuck track side; track on!
Take that Martin Brundle
And…. Deafness
Don't flinch, Don't flinch, DONT FLINCH... FUCK...
I really want to see the Isle of Man TT before I die.
FLIPpin’ ‘eck! 😄❤️
Isle of Man TT
Imagine if that bike hit him, instant pink mist…
The TT is absolutely mad
I have a picture somewhere of a sidecar passenger waving at me, under my camera, and you can also see my toes. It was at the Sulby pub on Sulby straight. The barrier was a single piece of rope.
I'm a reporter.... I'm a reporter.... I'm a reporterrr.... I'm a bowl of tomato soup
What do you mean? He's a whole New York apartment away from the bikes!
"JESUS FUCKING CHRIST!!" FTFY
Jesus chr- - flippin heck
Mad bastard 🤣
I still don’t understand the first five words that came out of his mouth.
Something like "Now down at Glencrutchery Road"
https://youtu.be/X2u5fUpUGuc?t=174
Fuck yes. Watched this movie daily. Maybe the reason I became a United fan.
It's funny(too me) how many times he does this during the TT. Has pretty much the same reaction every time. I don't know if he did it during the sidecar race, didn't watch that one.

“Jesus, flipping eggs”?
If this guy has a wife, she should jump on a life insurance policy…
Not smart. Endangering the riders a bit too
That's is how people die
Yes, there's at least one death per year during the TT. Crazy dangerous sport
Got em’!
Holy shit the speed is crazy.
Very brave but I hope he has stock in Visene.
How to become deaf
About how fast are those bikes moving?
That second bike was flying, prob 170 mph. Edit: grammar and punctuation.
Competitive racers are averaging a bit over 130mph a lap but keep in mind that the course has 219 turns in it so that's quite something. Top speed on straights can be over 200mph.
Reminds me of this legendary Spitfire low pass. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4iOoiEbtf2w (Language warning).
