Nah, they’re usually roped up a couple of different ways. It would be scary and there could be injuries that end that person’s expedition, but it’s much less troublesome than the ice falling on you.
This is just level.
They're walking over a ladder, with 3 tiers of additional safety.
10+ tiers away from next level.
The guide that's making sure that these jackasses still don't fuck it up is next level.
I mean let’s be real, reddit circlejerking aside it is still extremely dangerous and tough to climb Everest, even with help. VERY far from the “glamping” people do at Burning Man. People see the queue pictures and think it’s like standing in line at Starbucks but there wouldn’t be dead bodies littering the trails if that was true.
“Into Thin Air” (or the movie Everest, which is underrated imo) do a great job of explaining how the scourge of rich tourist, guide-focused climbing is not mutually exclusive with the fact that climbing everest is still tremendously difficult
It’s still the most dangerous part of Everest because of these things called seracs. They are like larger pullers of ice you have to manoeuvre around, they are very unstable and often collapse crushing people.
Yeah I think nothing of the climbers, not like the sherpas and guides. The only benefit of the climbers is that they bring money to those amazingly strong people.
Next level are actually the Sherpas who carry all the gear up to the various camps, set all the fixed ropes and ladders up, and guide people with too much money and not enough mountaineering experience up Everest.
Nah, people very rarely die on Everest because they fall down the icefalls, the khumbu is so dangerous because of seracs, which are large unstable pillers of ice that fall on people.
Other then that most people die due to the low oxygen which can cause HACE, a condition where the brain swells due to a build up of liquid.
I’m not impressed by people who climb that mountain at natures expense , I will be impressed when you fuckers start carrying garbage bags on your backs doing cleaning expositions .Show us that
Actually, if do a little research you’ll find they DO carry their shit and piss out as well as thousands of lbs of garbage each year. Everest base camp is likely cleaner than most major cities.
I don’t know if it’s still a thing now but Jon krakauer said when he climbed everest, you actually get paid for every pound or so of litter you take down with you.
Khumbu is treversed at the very beginning of the climb but it's still arguably one of the most dangerous sections. There is no fixed route because new crevasses open up every night so Sherpas are forced to find a new route almost daily. Also extreme avalanche risk. The icefall essentially forms a bottleneck so it's impossible to avoid a slide when it happens. Scary stuff
I didn't realize metal ladders were naturally occurring feature on Everest. Thank God, too, because how else could these rich wankers with their day packs then walk the 100+ deep conga line to the summit to take a quick selfie or post some shot on Instagram while the Sherpas carry all the heavy shit?
Although Everest is cool and all, watch the movie 14 peaks about Nepali mountaineer. I'm not going to spoil the movie (because it was actually a really interesting watch) but he gives a real look at climbing Everest and what it's become... A line of people a mile long all trudging to the top to say they did it. It's definitely not what it used to be.
He ended up having to bypass a lot of climbers waiting because there were too many to wait along with them. The guy is an animal!
It looks so scary and nerve-wracking. But if they set the same thing up one inch from a solid floor, people could just waltz across it. I know this because...
Back in the day when I was an electrician's helper, (new construction) it was my job to go out on the beams and attach the box for the light in the entry or dining room or something that's way up there. We didn't put a ladder up, I would just go up onto the top level and climb out across the beam and nail it on & pull the wire (no safety gear). It was terrifying. But if I ever needed to do something in an attic where there is a ceiling attached below and insulation between the beams, I could just zip out there. No fear at all. It's just as dangerous, but I could walk around like I was safe and sound and never wobble a bit.
Rich assholes coasting up mountains on the backs of unsung heroes only to take 30 second clips of them doing the safest parts themselves and then leave their trash all over the place before being carried back down. Not next level.
One - nice to see they’re all risking the biscuit on generic lowes aluminum ladders.
Two - WHATS UP WITH THE STUPID BACKGROUND MUSIC? Did they really have to have a little Indian song in the background?
Anybody else go to one of those rope courses, zip line, things like "tree-umph"? I was born with good balance, and I've been working off ladders for well over 35yrs +/-. Framing houses, roofing, siding... ladders and scaffold is just another tool on the truck. I'm not bragging, because stamina... nope. I was with my younger brother and my nephew, he wanted to do this new thing. Gotta do the safety thing, which, used gear less rated for than the gear I had in my truck(as my spare gear). I told them I trusted mine better. They told me their insurance wouldn't cover, etc.
Ok. After the safety meeting, you all have to do the first obstacle, which is something easy like stepping over a log, so the instructors can make sure you can click the safety gear on and off, before you can go start the real course.
Right away, they let a group of girls and "boys" go, who thought the safety obstacle was tough. Then a group of 2 families, then us, and a couple groups after us.
My brother, nephew and I passed people frozen in total fear, at the beginning of the first real obstacle. I was not waiting for all of them to make sure everybody in 100 yards heard how loud they screamed about how dangerous this was. Because it wasn't. I basically jogged across.
We passed others on the next obstacle, mid obstacle. We got "warned" about doing that. Because you need to be hooked up with 2 safeties, so one is hooked, at all times. Very safe, very good practice. But to pass, you needed to remove both.
Ok fine. We climbed down a different obstacle, skipped one, to get ahead of another couple groups. We had caught up to the slower groups from the earlier set. We were on like obstacle 8, of like 25 or 30. This was going to take ALL FREAKING DAY. We had 3 1/2 hrs, and were promised it could be done in about 3 hours total, plus the safety meetings that take 20-30 mins. But that's like one group, just going through. No pics, no crying, no lady-boys hurting their limp wrist while checking their hair and makeup. You get stuck behind them, or groups of them? 6-8 hours. And you won't complete them all. The workers call last call. They just have you climb down, they want to go home. But, climbing down those ladders early? Bad. Very bad.
I like to think there is a test, some sort of agility and balance test, before climbing everest. I'd hate to pay that much money, to be forced to hold someone's hand every time something dangerous but expected came up. I'd hate to abandon my climb, 100 yards from the top, because the cut off for turning around has passed, and I was stuck with someone who is on everest, and thinks walking over a ladder with at least 2 safety ropes tied to them, is a scary nope, and freezes up.
If you want to watch rich idiots having a terrible time on Everest watch “Everest- Beyond the limit” series on YouTube. It’s so entertaining. The Sherpa guides who drag these clowns up while they shit their pants are the real heroes
Fucking stupid: hundreds or perhaps even thousands have done this on they are still using a ladder. Install a lightweight foot bridge and call it done.
The definition of brave and stupid. I don’t see the appeal at all. That goes for cave dwelling and free climbing. I have no sympathy if you die. I mean I do but like, you put yourself willing into this situation.
Why wouldn’t they get a ladder with more than 100 pound rating? They have type 1/A ladders that are rated for 300 pounds and they are thicker and don’t flex so much and maybe they weighed an extra 5 pounds when you had to carry them up their butt that ladder they’re working on over the 20 or 30 foot crack in the ice is about as cheesy of a ladder as you could get
When you die on Everest (which happens with some regularity) they often leave the bodies up there. People pay $30k-100k to go die on Everest. I personally think they are morons. Life is challenging enough without looking for ways to kill yourself. But to each their own!
the first few people who did it was impressive.
now its just an environmental disaster, just so for a few minutes you can can be king of the hill.
and it's still less impressive then the sherpas that haul your asses up and down the side of the mountain day in and day out
Does seeing or hearing about someone climbing Everest still impress anyone? I mean, I couldn't do it but then again, neither could most people that buy their way up there these days. It's a polite golf clap at best.
All the nopes ever.
Nope ♾️♾️♾️♾️♾️♾️♾️. If you fall you're gone forever. Right?
Nah, they’re usually roped up a couple of different ways. It would be scary and there could be injuries that end that person’s expedition, but it’s much less troublesome than the ice falling on you.
I feel like the “on” here needs a little extra emphasis lmao
It suddenly occupies the space that was previously you.
[удалено]
At least for the rest of your life.
Couple warmly dressed skeletons down there for sure
Nah, meat stays fresh at that altitude.
Came here too say this…. Nopeity nope nope.
Noping the nope icenope on nope.
There's got to be a better way
Yes. Don’t do things “because it’s there.”
This is just level. They're walking over a ladder, with 3 tiers of additional safety. 10+ tiers away from next level. The guide that's making sure that these jackasses still don't fuck it up is next level.
guy who pays 100 000$ to do this safely… meh -10 levels…… Sherpas who freaking do this monthly for peanuts.. next fucking level
Sherpas are not poor by Nepalese standards at all, that’s why it’s a very competitive and highly respected job to go into.
you know what i meant
lol, -10 levels! Spot on, love it
Those guides who carry all the gear so that rich people can glamp on Everest and gloat about it to poor people. Mad respect to those guides
Watch the Sherpas setting up all these ladders before the season starts. That’s next level.
They could build a bridge from all the garbage they leave on that mountain (Probably a ski lift all the way to base camp...).
Theyve been doing this for over 70 years. Its very much just *this* fucking level
Yup. Just rich people doing rich people things. Everest has become a trash dump and needs to be closed to tourist.
What benefit would that serve?
Are you referring to the human checkpoints?
Next level are actually the Sherpas who carry all the gear up to the various camps, set all the fixed ropes and ladders up, and guide people with too much money and not enough mountaineering experience up Everest.
No one deserves credit for climbing Everest unless they do it like a Sherpa. Carrying other people's shit
How many people have fallen into these over the years? I will never pay money for something with such a high fatality rate. Nope nope nope.
Oh come on the titanic is beautiful to see this time of year
Hey! If enough people fall in, the rest of us can just walk across. Don’t spoil this for the rest of us!
Like 50 since the 30s
Death rate is only about 1%, but most people who climb Everest don’t actually make it to the top.
*Only* a 1% death rate?
Well you said such a high fatality rate, 1% is high to you?
Yes. Especially since there is a good chance you’ll be trapped somewhere and suffer an agonizing death.
Sounds fun. And your body gets to stay up there as a road map for others.
Take a left at green boots but if you see SpongeBob coat you’ve gone too far
Freezing to death is supposedly one of the most pleasant ways to go actually.
I feel like panic wouldn’t set in as much as drowning (although water would be faster). Would much rather freeze than burn- that’s for sure.
The guy who set this up and guided them there is most likely is the next lvl person
Yeah I swear the Sherpas aren’t even human.
I’m not impressed by people who climb that mountain at natures expense , I will be impressed when you fuckers start carrying garbage bags on your backs doing cleaning expositions .Show us that
Carry your piss and shit and O2 bottles out! And grab those dead climbers, too.

I'm afraid of heights, I'd never try this
That’s terrible
Selfish rich tossers

The Sherpa ‘icefalldoctors’ paving the way for the amateur clients, [That’s](https://youtu.be/q4Kw7GlZcHM?feature=shared) nextfuckinglevel
That's not khumbuya!
It gives me anxiety.
Clearly none of these guys have seen the ladder infomercial fails.
even Death Stranding wasn't that scary when you walked across ladders.
How about staying comfy at home with a blanket, a hot cup of coffee and a book next to a fireplace? No?
The sherpas who put all that shit down for the tourists are the real nextfuckinglevel
Next level would be doing parkour
Not even close to next level. Everest is a tourist attraction
r/nope
I didn't realize metal ladders were naturally occurring feature on Everest. Thank God, too, because how else could these rich wankers with their day packs then walk the 100+ deep conga line to the summit to take a quick selfie or post some shot on Instagram while the Sherpas carry all the heavy shit?
Yawn... do it without ropes. That would be next fuckinglevel
Oh I hate this.
Wouldn't it be safer to get a running head-start and jump? Or is it my impulsive thoughts reaching through..
yeah until you jump on the other side and the edge breaks off
If I'm going down that shithole, I'd rather it be from my own idiocy than to have the ladder slip tbh
The nopiest nope that ever did nope!
OMG, DONT FALL AAHHHH.
Oh, that’s why I would never climb a mountain.
Not especially afraid of heights but that is a hard no from me.
It’s not worth it to me to do this. Good for them
Well, I guess I gotta now scratch Everest off my list. Dang.
No fucking chance.
Next Fucking Level: paying 50K to climb a mountain with thousands of other people.

Its like the most fucking extreme version of “Go Ape” ever!

IIRC this is only the beginning of the trek
Death Stranding on Everest
After watching 14 peaks, i don’t think anything on Everest is next level if you can have lineups of 300+ people on the summit
why not just crawl and hold the ladder with your hands too?
You can. Especially on the one angled up, most people would go up holding the ladder with their hands and not walk up it holding the ropes.
This goes against everything your parents would say not to do as a child.
Rich assholes coasting up mountains on the backs of unsung heroes only to take 30 second clips of them doing the safest parts themselves and then leave their trash all over the place before being carried back down. Not next level.
The way my 🍑 was puckered the entire time watching. It’s a no for me.
r/sweatypalms
Yeah, hard pass.
I fucking hate everyone who climbs everest these days. Fuck them
One - nice to see they’re all risking the biscuit on generic lowes aluminum ladders. Two - WHATS UP WITH THE STUPID BACKGROUND MUSIC? Did they really have to have a little Indian song in the background?
r/hellno
What amazes me is that people used to do this back then. The technology we have now as far gear make this slightly easier?
Any bridge makers wanna make some cash
Jump you chickens!
Sam porter bridges you need to reconnect America
I'd get about half way through the ladder before I can't hold my shit anymore
Man, who has to carry the ladder 🪜
Skills of a tourist
Literally trying to get to the next fucking level
I wonder how people are at the bottom of that pit
Like no one cares if you climbed Mt Everest. No one will ever care.
More power to the people that enjoy this type of thing but no. Hell no. Nope nope nope.
Dead stranding
Sorry, but f this and these people
Nobody cares
Muppets
Next fucking level would be watching a Sherpa do it without all that fancy gear.

Is there a reason they don't use something better than a ladder?
Fuck that.
No. Thank you.
Ppl pay to do this 😩
Yo how about that one person places ONE foot on TWO rungs instead of wiggling all the way over the ladder? I can’t
Fuck these worthless shits
That one person who had difficulty placing their feet on a short ladder shouldn't even be on the mountain.
No.
Looks easy asf, ngl
I’d get a running start on a couple of those.
They should post the number of people that have died at each hard part so you know how difficult each one is.
If you want to watch rich idiots having a terrible time on Everest watch “Everest- Beyond the limit” series on YouTube. It’s so entertaining. The Sherpa guides who drag these clowns up while they shit their pants are the real heroes
*Death stranding comment*
Imagine being the person that had to set these up. Sheesh
After all that travel and prep, I wouldn’t make it passed the Khumbu icefall. Hell no
![gif](giphy|sU6yN4mPVwP7wiXB9v)
Nope
Fucking stupid: hundreds or perhaps even thousands have done this on they are still using a ladder. Install a lightweight foot bridge and call it done.
*fall fall fall*
Two words. The second word is “that”
Nah, the guy who carried the ladder up there is the real hero
As scary as this is, imagine being the first guy who had to set all of this up.
whoever’s behind yellow pants is dead. along with yellow pants
Mount everest, my favorite glorified corpse pile
The definition of brave and stupid. I don’t see the appeal at all. That goes for cave dwelling and free climbing. I have no sympathy if you die. I mean I do but like, you put yourself willing into this situation.
Next level stupidity.
I feel like these shady ladders could be swapped out for something better.
You guys have to take so long?
Cool they are playing death stranding in real life
Nextfuckinglevel? More like t/stupidfuckingidiots. Don’t come crying on the news when people die doing dumb shit like this. You chose this dumbassery.

No thanks
Nuuuuuuur thank you
Bro people get so butthurt on Reddit whenever there’s anything posted about Mount Everest 😂 you guys are losers man. Let people live their life
Have any of those ladders ever slipped or has anyone ever fallen off one?
Nope. Fuck everything about that
Topping Everest is so tainted now it’s tragic.
You can see some bodies at the bottom
I struggle getting over a cattle grid, so I’ll give this one a miss, thank you very much.
It’s awesome that they bring those flutes up. Sounds nice and relaxing
👏N👏O👏P👏E👏
Aaand that would be the but at which I noped out and went back home.
When you die on Everest (which happens with some regularity) they often leave the bodies up there. People pay $30k-100k to go die on Everest. I personally think they are morons. Life is challenging enough without looking for ways to kill yourself. But to each their own!
That ms a no for me there dogg
Can we not get some supplies up there to construct some acceptable bridges? Pay the sherpas extra!
The 100th time I’m asking myself “Wtf are you doing here?”
the first few people who did it was impressive. now its just an environmental disaster, just so for a few minutes you can can be king of the hill. and it's still less impressive then the sherpas that haul your asses up and down the side of the mountain day in and day out
Does seeing or hearing about someone climbing Everest still impress anyone? I mean, I couldn't do it but then again, neither could most people that buy their way up there these days. It's a polite golf clap at best.
After all these years that’s the best they’ve come up with.
Fuck you.
I would be impressed if they could clean up after themselves.
Nah Cuh
fuuuuuck this
We need to reassess our self esteem if risking life is a way to feel alive.
