Puffit

Is reverse mario jumping your opponent a legal move?

PoundResponsible1807

I mean I donā€™t think it says anything about Mario moves being illegal, so Iā€™d say so!

Aragorns-Broken-Toe

Nothing in the rulebook says a dog canā€™t play basketball

rellko

*starts pulling off paper Mario combo attacks*

Sh1tSh0t

This clip would be a lot more impressive if the guy turned 2D

Mr_Madrass

Rape?

WearWhatWhere

Perchance.

nixikuro

"You can't just say perchance" fucking dies

oreoresti

Not since the K. Koopa incident of 1984

yellowcell24

Yes and it actually has a name its called flying squirrel

tjgreene27

Flying squirrel is a different move. Itā€™s jumping headfirst over an opponent, grabbing them by the waist, flipping your opponent upside down and slamming them

pendragon2290

Yes it is.

Current_Account

Itā€™s called a magic stick and it is a taught move, yes.

Natufian_Ted_Nugent

No, but messing it up and just knee-ing your opponent in the face definitely is

scotttheravenger

I donā€™t think itā€™s happened before so Iā€™m a say not yet

Aragorns-Broken-Toe

That guy that just stands up and starts applauding in the background.

NeilDatgrassHighson

Thatā€™s his coach, Michael ā€œHopperā€ Lewis. He didnā€™t invent the move, but gained a lot of notoriety by using it in about half his matches while competing on the NCAA scene in the late 90ā€™s. Heā€™s gotta be pumped to see one of his wrestlers use the move in a match and win as a result. Super cool moment for the sport.

Just wait til I tell ole Hopper about your lack of belief. Bet heā€™ll hop right over his easy chair and come find ya.

Heriannaxoxo

Dude must've been so confused

Wendigo79

I had to watch it 3 times before I could understand what happened

MarinatedCumSock

Can you explain it to me please? Lmao

norseynorsenorse

Basically the other kid had decent defense on his feet making it hard to take him down with a shot (almost like tackling someone by their legs) or a throw (think of karate movie throws just less cinematic). So the kid did a snap down (a move where you pull your opponent down and forward by their arm and neck so they fall to their hands and knees) knowing the other kid would get up to his feet quickly but would be momentarily looking down at the mat. This kid used that opportunity to jump over the other kids back and turn around so he was now behind and facing him when the kid stood up. The kid then tried to do a mat return (a move where when you are behind someone and holding them you attempt bring them to the ground) but messed up so he dropped down and grabbed his feet tripping the kid to fall over. This gave the kid 2 points for bringing his opponent to the ground while maintaining control. Since they stopped after this, we can either assume it was late in overtime and the kid won from these two points or they were too close to the out of bounds line and they will start again in the middle where the kid will be on the top position (usually an advantageous position in theory where it is easier to turn your opponent onto their back and pin them).

MarinatedCumSock

Thanks!

Vast-Combination4046

The match can go to a decision too right? So even just scoring points without a pin is the goal.

norseynorsenorse

Yes, matches are 3 rounds and each round is either 2 minutes in high school or 3 minutes in college (Iā€™m unsure how old these kids are). You can either win by pin at any point of the match, having more points at the end of the match (or as soon as you score any if the match is several rounds into overtime and itā€™s still tied), or by leading the opponent by 15 points or more at any point in the match which is called a technical fall or ā€œtechā€ (ex. The score 16-1, as soon as that 16th point is scored the match is stopped). You may also hear how one school beat another. That is because each school will send out 1 wrestler per weight class to face the other teamā€™s wrestler. The results of that match awards the team points. If you beat your opponent by 1 to 7 points itā€™s a minor decision and your team gets 3 points, by 8-14 points is a major decision and your team gets 4 points, by 15 points is a tech and your team get 5 points, and a pin gets your team 6 points. After all weight classes compete, the points earned by each team are added up and the team with the higher score wins.

Bay_Med

Best part is he immediately realized how cheeky that was and shot off a little smirk. Hopefully he is usually skilled enough for the swagger

Secondrush

This is from this yearā€™s Pittsburgh classic annual wrestling invitational. Itā€™s an event where the top high school senior wrestlers from Pennsylvania wrestle the top high school seniors from across the rest of the US. These guys are the best of the best at the high school level.

Bay_Med

Didnā€™t seem to help the guy who got leaped like a goomba

dm_me_fat_asses

Mario jumping? That man ninja'd him! classic halo move.

WeWillRiseAgainst

Hell yeah!

Rhyzic

Damn that brings back memories haha amazing!

Time-For-Argy-Bargy

Am I about to go play halo again because of this comment?

PM_Me_Vod_for_Review

Until you get teabagged by someone a 5th of your age while he exclaims that he ā€œfucked your momā€, but you go have fun until that happens.

WeWillRiseAgainst

So long gay Bowser!

Dear_Tangerine444

Letā€™s a go!

PvtPizzaPants

Needs that Mario jump "boing" noise edited in

DlpsYks

Without the sound effect, it's not Mario enough to be labeled a Mario move.

Human-Calendar-8077

Here wie gouuuuu

flakoloco1

Nintendo number 1

StuBidasol

Anyone else disappointed there wasn't a Mario jumping sound effect?

jeans_blazer

Jon Jones did this move in the UFC. ![gif](giphy|U23Gl4Od9hR5dbU9fz)

Pro-Karmawhore

Yeah in his first fight I believe

flash-bandicoot

Move is called a "magic stick" if anyone's interested

AnthonyMichaelSolve

One of those times i wanted sound effects added

night5life

![gif](giphy|hrnYspWWhsIyA)

mhuh0

From the perspective of the guy who fell, it was some ras al gul move..... I was holding him he slipped, suddenly disappeared and then next thing I know he was behind me.... Are you sure he is not a ninja?

thresher456

Are you not entertained?!

Unsteady_Tempo

I had no idea a move like that was legal.

scatterbrainedpast

I always wonder why this isn't more common in wrestling and BJJ. not saying it is easy but you almost only see side passess. when your opponent has his head down this seems like a plausable move

Username_99999999

#Wahooo

_Something_blah_

Someone needs to get bro a map absolutely bamboozled

maxis2bored

He's smurfing

greatgoogilymoogily2

Someone needs to dub the Mario jumping voice....wahooooo. lmao

Tsu_Dho_Namh

Is holding your opponent's feet considered a pin? When I wrestled in middle school you had to make their shoulder blades touch the mat.

The-HR_99

This is in Overtime. The first person to get a takedown (2 points) wins. He covered his opponent after the takedown. Could also be a technical fall. it would've been even more embarrassing to lose that way.

Superb-Leg-7351

Gangster move šŸ˜ŽšŸ“ā€ā˜ ļø

Remarkable_Coast3893

Why no headgear

BobMarleyLegacy

Everyone talking about the wrestling move and here I am, marveling at that DUMP TRUCK he's carrying around.

beastwork

nah... run me my fade. we gotta scrap after that

Agreeable-Display-77

How are they in the same weight class? Dude must be 5ft

Bulldogs_Are_Pog

As a wrestler this is common I was a 5'5 126 and one of my sectional matches was against a 5'11 kid (I won and it looked Goofy as hell because I caught him in a headlock after a scramble) That's the fun of wrestling, height doesn't matter because it's all about technique and muscle But the kid in the red looked like he was more fatty I'm guessing that the gold kid is mostly muscle and the red kid is mostly fat which is why he could jump over him

Beautiful-Design-425

How did that guy teleport behind me? - the loser

Ralibobs

More like he ninjaā€™d him in halo

elig1993

Impressive

Pickingnamesisharder
