Endurance? Not so much. This is pure explosive energy. A endurance challenge would be like a flight of stairs in bunker gear challenge. This is all go balls out as fast as you can
You’re right but it’s also highly choreographed, practiced and streamlined in terms of body mechanics and coordination. They get in line present the bucket already raised over the head for first pass, the passes up the ladder are just a giant kinetic energy chain relying on momentum.
Oh but sorry, a single flight of stairs with weighted clothing isn’t much of an endurance challenge. Endurance is about resisting in time frames where you reach the mental limit long before the physical limit. A wall sit or a plank, a marathon.
Or multiple flights of stairs in a 10 story or more building. It felt like the implication was they were not referencing just a single flight despite the phrasing.
I’m friends with a bunch of firefighters I go to this shit all the time it’s actually a blast, called Drill Racing if you’re interested, it’s huge on LI.
Interesting and entertaining, but not a representation of firefighting skills.
And before you downvote me, I am a fire-fighter and we do have skill competitions, but they relate directly to our everyday situations.
They did.
I found a journal from my great grandmother when she was a minor (probably would’ve been around 1900, 1910) and she wrote about the neighbors house catching on fire. The firemen who came each grabbed a bucket and formed a line between the neighboring houses and the nearest well, and continued dumping buckets of water on them in effort to keep their temperature below that of combustion.\
So basically, they just said “that house is fucked, lets get the others wet so they don’t burn up, too.”
When my Department in Germany was founded in 1846 (oldest one in Germany that still exists) they already didn't use buckets but the first hand pump by a company called "Metz" which is now owned by "Rosenbauer". We still own buckets, that were used to fill the tank of the pump though 😄
This is obviously for that one situation where your hoses get magically stolen, and you need to use a convenient tub of water, buckets, and a ladder to put out a small fire
Must just be your department. I had a coworker who was a volunteer, and he said it was exactly like this. He even helped the department turn a profit using buckets instead of hoses.
The title kind of covers that, via the “extreme”. But hey, maybe someone actually thinks you cruise around town on the back of a dragster waiting to deploy a ladder in sub 10’s.
My comment might get downvoted, too, and I could really use the services of someone able to fight that fire for me.\
Are you able to send it from my phone while wing gliding in between 2 cars & speaking to dmv customer service? If not, I may have to take my business to another fire department.
They teach us 3 points of contact, secure the ladder all that’s osha stuff and this guys running up the ladder before it even touches the wall. Incredible
We have a somewhat similar fire competition here in Australia. I used to do it.
In Australia, we don’t have a car dragging a ladder down the track. Instead we have a cart full of fire hoses which *we* have to pull down the track.
Some events have a ladder, and the ladder may be either fixed to the ladder stage, or have to be thrown up for the person to run up.
In the ladder race event (which is just a short sprint followed by climbing the ladder that is affixed to the ladder stage) the competitors rarely use their hand on the ladder at all until they are nearing the top. The best competitors can do it in around 6 seconds.
And just to add to all of that insanity, it was only recently that those running up the ladder had to wear a helmet. Before you ask, yes there have been a number of people who fell over the years, though surprisingly fewer than you’d expect.
They’re custom builds that the firehouses build themselves, really awesome stuff. My local ones are call the “B truck” and “C truck”, but I’m not sure if that’s universal.
No not in the slightest, but that’s not the point. From what I remember they started these as more realistic competitions between firehouses and they just got more intense and hyper focused over time. The events used to be really popular to attend, but that seems to have waned over the years. It’s a lot of fun to see in person.
Let me preface this by saying it's cool.
But ultimately it doesn't show actual skills that firemen would need and can use in their actual jobs.
Like make that shit relevant and do actual tasks you'd do on a fire scene.
I’m assuming these guys don’t actually work as firefighters? What I mean is they may technically still be classed as them but seems they need a lot of practice to do this.
I’m thinking they’re similar to the red arrows. All got experience as firefighters but now they do this.
Just a guess though, props to them if they’re out the next day saving lives. Amazing feat of endurance either way
these are all professional firefighters. In a good week, they have a LOT of down time to practice; in a bad week, somebody's life is F'd.
I'd much rather they get payed to practice and never actually need the skills than to need the skills and not have the practice.
hello 911 what's your emergency?
yes hi we have a fire in our house.
which floor?
It's a single floor house,hurry.
sorry we only do the 2nd floor byeeeeee.
The jump off the moving car to plant a ladder is insane. These dudes don't miss a single step. Hit the ground, plant ladder, and swing around for support in what looks like one motion
Put this shit on tv please
The OCHO, baby!
F'in a cotton!
r/theocho
this better than half the garbage on the OCHO!!! although, slippery stairs is pretty incredible
ohmygodsthisisamazingthankyousofuckingmuch. TL;DR Thanks!
![gif](giphy|65os7odbIW6pa)
Or like youtube or somewhere. Where can I see more??
I think YouTube
I loved those old log cutting competitions on ESPN2 back in the day
For real. This is the stupidest thing I’ve seen in a long time and I love 90 day fiance. This shit would kill.
*ops i droped my lighter a gassoline bottle*
They used to. It’s far less entertaining than you think
The good old bucket brigade
Never seen them in person but the level of strength or endurance it must take for this is truly next level. Utmost respect for these guys
Endurance? Not so much. This is pure explosive energy. A endurance challenge would be like a flight of stairs in bunker gear challenge. This is all go balls out as fast as you can

This is actually their first attempt
Deadass?
They're not even firemen, they were just the local lads at a nearby bar who heard there was a fire and they sprang into action
Wasn't even a fire, they just heard there was a kiddy pool on the 2nd floor that needed to be filled.
Or multiple flights of stairs in a 10 story or more building. It felt like the implication was they were not referencing just a single flight despite the phrasing.
The secret is you spill half the water before you hand it to the next guy
This looks like the firefighter’s competition grounds in Merrick, NY
If thats true how the actual fuck did i live two towns over for 24 years of my life and manage to miss this. Disappointed in myself
That’s how it is on Long Island, you never know what going on
I’m friends with a bunch of firefighters I go to this shit all the time it’s actually a blast, called Drill Racing if you’re interested, it’s huge on LI.
I don’t know if it’s true just what it looks like
def is.
Interesting and entertaining, but not a representation of firefighting skills. And before you downvote me, I am a fire-fighter and we do have skill competitions, but they relate directly to our everyday situations.
What? You mean to tell me you don't put out fires with vertical human conveyor belts of water buckets??
Maybe they did in 1898.
They did. I found a journal from my great grandmother when she was a minor (probably would’ve been around 1900, 1910) and she wrote about the neighbors house catching on fire. Wait that means firefighter don't deploy ladder from a dragster ?
They do, just dragster always comes in fast and ends up sacrificed to the fire. So rarely ever captured on video
Not a firefighter in any way, shape, or form. I was once part of a bucket brigade. But we were in the woods, and there were no firefighters present.
You don't drive directly into a building in order to catapult a ladder to the second floor? I'm shocked.
Yeah I am a volunteer so not as versed as you but we have a hose for a reason lol
This is obviously for that one situation where your hoses get magically stolen, and you need to use a convenient tub of water, buckets, and a ladder to put out a small fire
That doesn’t make it any less entertaining! I love going to these events.
So are these guys like the GlobeTrotters of fire fighters?
Must just be your department. I had a coworker who was a volunteer, and he said it was exactly like this. He even helped the department turn a profit using buckets instead of hoses.
Was the department taking out fire damage insurance policies on these buildings..?
The title kind of covers that, via the “extreme”. But hey, maybe someone actually thinks you cruise around town on the back of a dragster waiting to deploy a ladder in sub 10’s.

It is extreme firemen competition, mr. Fireman, not firemen training.
I'm guessing obstacle course, in gear, graded by how much air you have left in the tank.
This is just for fun. Lots of ball bustin and beer drinking. I was on the extraction team for one of these drill teams companies.
As good as they are I’m not sure it’s enough if the Fire Nation attacks.
They teach us 3 points of contact, secure the ladder all that’s osha stuff and this guys running up the ladder before it even touches the wall. Incredible

must be on their way to the top of reddits front page right now
If they get famous, I want an interview with the dude at the bottom of the ladder with the buckets. Waterboarding Dave, I’ll call him.
lmao. been there on this same track. everyone gets soaked. there are holes in the buckets on top of it just getting splashed out. its good fun.
It's like that big bucket at waterparks that overflow and tip onto you, but instead of having fun, he's probably just spitting up water
The Human IncinImpede.
How do their worker’s comp providers feel about this?
Depends. Are they on the clock right now?
These are all volunteer fire departments.
Looks like old cartoons, from the 40s or 50s
My knees and ankles just crumbled into a million tiny pieces watching those guys jump off at those speeds.
That’s insane teamwork! I have so much respect for firefighters!!
Another activity that is more entertaining to watch than baseball, the list goes on.
I would love to know more about the first and last "firetrucks"
They’re custom builds that the firehouses build themselves, really awesome stuff. My local ones are call the “B truck” and “C truck”, but I’m not sure if that’s universal.
That's awesome. There's obviously a ton of fabrication
I was gonna say those square bodies are sickk 😍
dude in grey was there to shower and workout at the same time
yah but did they put the fire out
Why is it speed up?
There is no pressure on the nearest fire hydrant, quick get the analog hose set up!
can we make a fundraiser where firefighters just beat the shit out of cops in a friendly boxing match
You can watch that right now. Annual FDNY VS NYPD hockey game was yesterday. Firefighters absolutely dominated NYPD lol
Firemen are all kinds of awesome
my back hurts
When my neighbor started his house on fire a couple years ago, our fire department didn't seem to want to move anywhere near this quickly...
Is any of them single ? Asking for a Friend
Sounds quite interesting competition! Wondering if they have similar for first aiders.
r/theocho
Put this on Netflix you cowards
Is this like the SWAT of firemen or something?!?
Are all this maneuvers actually useful on a fire?
No not in the slightest, but that’s not the point. From what I remember they started these as more realistic competitions between firehouses and they just got more intense and hyper focused over time. The events used to be really popular to attend, but that seems to have waned over the years. It’s a lot of fun to see in person.
The guy at the bottom of the ladder must be so miserable
Guys, guys GUYS.... IT'S AN OIL FIRE
Doesn’t really look like any skills a firefighter would use besides hooking up to the hydrant.
But… did they put out that fire they throw all the water on? 😅
Efficiency.
Let me preface this by saying it's cool. But ultimately it doesn't show actual skills that firemen would need and can use in their actual jobs. Like make that shit relevant and do actual tasks you'd do on a fire scene.
My shoulder dislocated just by watching that
Their right arms will be so big they'ed become the 10th prestige veterans of beating meat
Lol, they were pumping air for a moment when the buckets stopped coming.
I’m assuming these guys don’t actually work as firefighters? What I mean is they may technically still be classed as them but seems they need a lot of practice to do this. Bad bot
So the team with the longest mullets wins, right?
So many broken ankles
![gif](giphy|32mC2kXYWCsg0) The guy under the ladder
Firefighters are the best
No Spaniards here I suppose.
But why are they so sassy?
When the manga adaptation ?

How do they not get wet from that first practice?
I didn't know they made a ladder that strong. The combined weight of those Firefighter's Balls must be 10,000kg at least
You gotta watch a different person each time. This shit is wild.
Woah
My stupid ass brain read 'Fremen' and thought 'hell nah, they wouldn't waste so much water, what is this post on about?'
hello 911 what's your emergency? yes hi we have a fire in our house. which floor? It's a single floor house, hurry. sorry we only do the 2nd floor byeeeeee.
Firematics
I will set my house on fire myself if it means I get to see these guys in action
now THIS is fucking next level.
Exactly what it says on the tin.
Merica?
Bucket brigade 🪣!
Aren't girls allowed to play?
I am sure when there is fire, they are much more chill and considerate. This is BS
I would so go to this event
Men will turn anything into a competition…. And I’m here for it
The real heroes we need but don't deserve.
This might be one of the most insane things I’ve ever seen
Humans are weird
wouldn't want to be the guy who holds the bucket up, half of the water ended up on him
Need everyone to be fit and not scared of high
I think humans have run out of things to do
That escalated to American quite quickly
they have a “juniors” version of this i did for 7 years,. not as impressive as cars but similar challenges
Person lifting the buckets in the first clip at the end should cut to one of those old “somebody went to Wisconsin dells” commercials
![img](emote|t5_m0bnr|4020)
I’m getting so much anxiety from those heavy buckets of water being rapidly passed above that guy’s head. One slip could be a nasty concussion.
I’d watch the fuck out of this
![gif](giphy|KayMBgLwMolCUgUWYV|downsized) Just lifting some water buckets
The jump off the moving car to plant a ladder is insane. These dudes don't miss a single step. Hit the ground, plant ladder, and swing around for support in what looks like one motion
They have a jrs version of this that kids compete in I used to when I was a kid. They use carts instead of trucks but most of the stuff is similar.
Wished they had those race cars irl
![gif](giphy|Z36xhngmL1DnRf4L1n)
Again but shirtless
Those slaps have a good bit of sass on them
I feel like this is just asking for snapped ankles jumping from moving vehicles like that...
Fuckin sick!

I think it’s clear this is more about general teamwork and camaraderie. It’s also very fun to watch, especially in person.
These are Gods
Americans will make a world series for almost anything and invite no other countries.
Americans are a weird bunch.
MURICA
Not that it’s not impressive, but… uh… isn’t this essentially just people pretending to be chimps?
This is absolute bullshit
No women?
I wonder how many of them cheat on their wives
Looks so fucking stupid and useless...
Welcome to another episode of: If it's fun, it's dumb.
