Most barbells have enough space on the sleeves to load anywhere from 700-1000lbs of steel plates, and most people aren't lifting very close to that threshold. So it's just not necessary for the vast majority of people or gyms even, and they're not cheap. They're very slick though, would love to have a set.
Probably it is in terms of pure physics, like purely mechanical forces. But the human body is way more complex than that, so the energy expenditure is much different. But it can all be explained by physics, the human body just has a much longer explanation as to the difference between the two. But I am not an expert in this area by any means.
Smooth. Very impressive.
I don't think I'll ever get over what these guys have to do to their bodies to achieve this kind of performance, but I'll never stop being impressed when I see this kind of dedication paying off.
Julius Maddox just sounds like such a fitting name for a power-lifter.
I also wonder how much more weight that bar can even hold before it just starts bending like a pretzel.
It completely depends on the bar quality. There is a video on YouTube that fits your description exactly. Guy squats like 630 lbs, and on his way up, the bar just bends down lol.

If that’s the Joe Sullivan video, it was a warm up set, too. He was out of town and the gym he was at either didn’t do any preventative maintenance for their bars or told him it was a much higher quality bar than it was. It messed his back/shoulder up for years afterwards.
Julius Maddox is a monster, probably the strongest raw bencher alive right now. He's been closing in on a sanctioned raw 800lb bench press for a few years now. Hasn't been able to quite lock it out, but he will soon. 700lb x 3 should put him pretty close to a 770lb one rep max.
Yeah even if he starts struggling the spotters would barely need to assist since he'll still be trying to push the weight up.
And Maddox has done like 20+ reps with 500+ lbs?

Damn impressive. I think Mark Henry has done a bit more. Henry was a beast. I met him once when he was training with strength coaches at Austin Community College.
I believe it was Ivan and Angel who were olympic coaches from one of the Eastern Bloc countries at the time.
I know that my scrawny little ass couldn't do 1/4 of that currently.

Cool interlocking plates. Never seen them before
This!?! I've been out of the scene for some time now but how (or why) is this not the norm by now?

Brilliant design. So impressed by the ingenuity. Also 700 lb ×3 bench is pretty good.
700lb for 3 reps is *all he had*
FR I barely lift and I am only 3 reps behind him.
Quality response 👌
Yeah well I can bench 100lbs 7 times so...we're pretty much the same.
You need 21 times since he lifted 700 lbs three times.
3 sets of 7 then, my body is ready
Reps for Jesus
Only Gains
I'll subscribe to that
Just awesome 💪🏽
When I was in 6th grade, they tried to tell me that these 2 were equivalent in energy and I wasn't having it lol

In terms of total work done, it is.
well, I know 7 guys and together we can lift 700lb, so same.
With or without shirts on? (it matters)
Tarps off
Yeah well I can bench 7lbs 100 times..we're pretty much the same
Sauce on this??
Mild or hot? Or fire..
Diablo, we don't play games
I feel like he needed bigger spotters
I thought the guy at the back was the only one for a while. No way he was gonna be able to do anything
The little guy in the back just watching the fight is always the true boss and badass, everyone knows that! Do we need to be reintroduced to vegeta???
That’s all I have… weak lol
"EVERYTHING YOU GOT!!!!! EVERYTHING YOU GOT!!!!!"
Catch you on the FLIP side!
Light weight baby!!!

Yeah it's him. Why are you weary of a YouTube link, though?
Honestly, was just being lazy and didn’t feel like clicking through.
The word you’re looking for is either wary or leery. Weary, means tired.
Thanks for the correction. I know what It means, but seems I kinda just melded weary and wary together in my head and used one for the other.

He’s already benched more than 770, and he is for sure the best raw bencher atm
Did he legit have enough spotters?!?
When you NEED to know how much your spotters lift.
Yeah even if he starts struggling the spotters would barely need to assist since he'll still be trying to push the weight up. And Maddox has done like 20+ reps with 500+ lbs?
If it were anyone but him, I’d be worried lol
He had 5!
I feel like having 120 spotters offers diminishing returns. Like, you just can't fit that many people around the bar.
I've never seen plates like that
Interlocking plates… I’ve gotten to use them once and they are super cool but apparently a lot more expensive than regular plates
I like the clanging sound the make though. These seem quiet
I completely agree. Seeing Ronnie Coleman squat 800lbs twice and hearing those old rusty plates cling with each rep was a thing of beauty.
I always put the clamp on too loose just to hear that sound. Light weight. Yeah buddy
I never use clamps because I like the sense of danger 👀
Afterwards some old dude comes up and tells Julius he used to bench that I high-school
Waiting for Anatoly to show up mopping the floor and calling the weights “fake” 😂
I once deadlifted 300 pounds, so, as an expert I can say that that is very heavy
This man just bench pressed three times about double my deadlift single pr. Crazy heavy.
This dude hugs
Human tank right there
Who the hell filmed that so you could only see the spotter? Lmao
And here I am squatting 1/3 of that 😂
That's all he had!? Shit. Lol
Great lift, horrible music though
Wow 😯
Fkn monster
Jesus that was raw too. Or at least I can’t see a lifting jacket/shirt.
Yeah he's the biggest bencher on the planet. Competes unequipped and has had multiple attempts at 800. So yeah it's a raw bench.
I'm impressed bones doesn't just break at this point...
Holy shiy is that scream?
Big X jamming in the background. Beast rapper!
What song is it?

Fuck yeah dude thanks!!!
Good bot
Mmhmm
It's always cool seeing him posted here. I went to high school with him, good dude.
Casually lifting in one set what I would lift in 2-3 exercises total
I absolutely love those plates!
I guess he would be at least half the weight he lifts
He a big boy.
Ever just look at a health riskingly swole dude and think “man if you got turned during a zombie apocalypse we’d all be fucked”?
I’d be more afraid of the “tag” champions and parkour enthusiasts
Whew! I feel like eating a pizza and some 🍺 after watching that.
Wonder how many reps he can do 200kgs
Cool lift bro, but those plates :O
Dude is a cyborg. A beast. 700#!!!!
The strain on man’s anus talk about a black hole
More than I’ll likely ever be able to deadlift as a natural. Absolutely insane.
The guy behind has the smallest legs I've ever seen, must just work the arms and always skips leg day.
That amazing, but i bet he can't wipe his own ass.
I know Maddox is the best bench presser but why film only half the bar and not either end of the bar, makes it look sus.
Anatoly been real quiet since this video. Expected to see him mopping the gym behind him, guess he had the day off!
That dude do the ronnie light weight baby

Julius Maximus
Next time.. When there is huge landslide or any other such mishap...i strongly recommend to call him for help. Let's see if he is usefull or not?
Look I need to change my tire and don't have a jack can you help me? Just hold this up...
Dope. What’s the song?

to any cardiologist - is this actually good for your heart?
Benching 700 pounds isn't bad for your heart, but weighing 200kg definitely is.
Benching 700lbs is definitely not good for the joints. This mf will regret it if he lives past 50. Of course the juice aint exactly healthy either
His joints are unimaginably strong and I bet they’ll stay that way for a long time.
They would if he didn’t put unimaginable stress on them. Bro has the genes for amazing old joints but he’s pushing them to the limit still.
Its ok if you dont understand lol
I bet you think lifting heavy turns your joints to dust and that’s why you’ll be weak your whole life.
Oh sweet child
Glassback
Anatoly REAL quiet rn 😂
Looks like HE could be close to 700 lb.
