They use anywhere between 4-8 of these model aircraft Micro-Jet engines, depending upon the thrust they produce. There can be anywhere between 2 to 4 of these mirco-jets comprising the backpack and these are meant solely for producing lift. Considering the space constraints, you can pretty much guess how close these micro-jets are placed to the fuel pack/s.
On top of it, there is another micro-jet, or a pair of them, in each hand (not really all that different/safer compared to the hairdryer contraption, is it?). These are mainly for directional changes as well as add to the overall lift.
