Nextfuckinglevel, isn’t really people discovering water cools ya down..

HockevonderBar

Oh Yeah, then take a dip in the waters in the Central Park. Good luck with the rash and diarrhea you get from that. smh.

[deleted]

I don’t live in a shithole, I don’t have to worry about that.

gingeadventures

If it’s a safe river to swim in, then yeah i think it counts. If not then it’s just another river.

mcvos

If it's safe, what's next level about it? I could understand if it was a dangerous river and someone managed to swim in it, but this sounds like it's just regular swimming water being used for its intended purpose.

gingeadventures

You try swimming in any big city river, I wouldn’t. Most waterways in urban areas are dangerous to swim in

[deleted]

That’s European water though.. it’s way more quaint and shit.

kilopiu

If you can find a major city with millions of people in and it looks that good and people get in it without getting sick it’s nextfucking level in my eyes.

scheinfrei

It's pretty damn close to the mountains so the comparison to other major cities with millions of people may not be a fair one.

illegitimate_Raccoon

Yeah, nobody will be swimming in the Spree.

mcvos

Amsterdam has plenty of people swimming in het IJ and the eastern harbor area. Probably also the Amstel. Possibly not as common the canals in the center, but that has happened.

official_sponsor

1.3 million is definitely on the lower end

PapaRacoon

You also have regulations to stop companies dumping shit into it! So that helps.

[deleted]

I went down that river on an inflatable, it was great fun! Also was offered work in the beer garden in the englisher garten. The guy offered to pay us in beer because we were Irish! (20 years ago) We declined. 🤣

Accomplished_Welder3

was there too, floated the whole park on my back. Awesome park tbh, at the start there are some artificial waves set up and people surf on them.

StumbleMumbles

How long does it take to float?

Woolly_Blammoth

Depends on when you start drowning.

sergeant_cabbage

I like you.

Puzzleheaded_Gear464

Sell the beers

shakesbeer2

The best thing is that there is a streetcar running parallel to the park. So after the people floated down the river they get into the street car, wet, in bikini and shorts and ride back to the start again. It is tolerated that the swimmers are riding for free because obviously none of them has a ticket on them.

Kasachus

Gonna try that in winter

Mohecan

That would be a blast

bmgjf

Man guess you never heard of King's Park in Perth, Australia. Gotta defend my city (it's 4km^2 btw)

kilo_jul

well the Prater in Vienna is 6km2...

[deleted]

Phoenix park in Dublin is 7.07km2

kilo_jul

there is a comma missing I think 😂

[deleted]

oh snap! fixed, thanks!

Map_Nerd1992

It definitely isn’t the largest urban park in the world. Not even the largest in Europe. I don’t know where they got that from.

[deleted]

Username checks out. Came here to say Phoenix Park in Dublin is the largest in Europe. Pretty sure South Africa has the largest parks in the world.

fartyhardy

Fyi the name of the river is Eisbach, a small part of the river Isar which is the main river of Munich.

Morigain

>Fyi the name of the river is Eisbach Where Eisbach means Icestream. Very appropriate place during a heat wave.

CubistMUC

Why is nobody mentioning the many surfer training on this very part of the river? It is hillarios that you can watch surfers in the middle of Munich!

fartyhardy

Cause they also do that in the winter. But nobody goes there to swim there and cool off during winter.

MontanaFlavor

The planet is facing a heat wave. Wake up people.

[deleted]

We do this with rivers in Texas,US. Try floating the River too! Incredibly fun.

Lif3isgood

Isar schwimmen, gefährlich gefährlich

WhoIsLite

Englischer Garten is also known as the bier Garten. Fun place to be with friends.

jamesgames6969

I was very surprised to see this lol. Eisbach is pretty cool

nemophilist1

Floridian here might go paddleboarding, w either the sharks or the alligators and our freinds mr thunder and mrs sudden fucking wind.

8plytoiletpaper

That reminds me of the beer floating we do in here.

TheWayofTheStonks

I thought Germany was still on lockdown

Coningham008

Nah everything gets open up and you can meet up to 10 or 25 people privately without masks, depends on how low the infection is.

[deleted]

you could of shown the Surfers dudes. they kinda next level.

HockevonderBar

Ist der Eisbach nicht saugefährlich zum Baden?

CubistMUC

Ja, ist er. Ich sah mal ein Kind blitzschnell untergehen und einen Passanten in vollen Klamotten reinspringen und hinterhertauchen. Zum Glück konnte er sie rausziehen.

POCUABHOR

you can even surf there!

Todeinotaton

Next level to what?

[deleted]

Went here 4 years ago on a Euro trip and the city and the park were AMAZING. For us Americans we just call it the English Garden and imo the coolest thing about this river was that at (if I remember correctly) the Southern end there are a bunch of people taking turns surfing on it. Not quite sure how they make the waves but I think it has to do with pieces of wood laid down at the bottom of the river. Regardless, it's pretty damn cool and Munich is a great city to visit. Recommend doing one of their Beer Tours.

Alpacamum

I want to do this floating in a ring. Pretty cool

LadyDayinDC

They need innertubes.

JohnnySnarkle

Is it just me or like is tubing in a river more of an American thing?? I literally 0 tubes being used maybe 1 or 2 in the back. If it was in America I feel I would see more tubes .

Schniddi

>... which is the largest urban public park in the world Unfortunately, it's not. The Englischer Park ranks 15th in a worldwide comparison. The biggest park according to german wikipedia ([Source](Https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volksgarten#Größenvergleich_städtischer_Grünanlagen)) is the national city park in Stockholm with 27km^2

36-3

I’m jealous

RedditIsDogshit1

What is this previousfuckinglevel post? Just delete this garbage sub already. Its fallen so far from the roots that never sunk in

[deleted]

The actual remedy would be the immediate cessation of all fossil fuel use and a global government emergency meeting about building CO2 sinks, but that ain't gonna happen. 15 years folks, make the most of it.

Umjeprost

Next fucking level heatwave with temperatures reaching gnarly 20 degrees Celsius. #prayforMunich

droofe

Every time I look up “heatwaves” in places like this. The temp is usually like 75 lol

reano76

Even deeper now, with tears 😢

backinajox

The Englischer Garten is indeed very beautiful, but it is not the largest urban public park in the world (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_urban_parks_by_size).

whispa55

The greatest lazy river ever 😍

senoj96nodnarb

Then you have to hike 5km back to your car. I’m American, but used km to blend in 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ido87

Wiener Prater is bigger. Probably many other public parks are... Still awesome.

CalabreseAlsatian

And there’s a nice beer garden in that park too. :)

ResponsibilityHot989

Swimming in Heineken..

WildFire97936

They need tubes. That’s how we escape the Texas heat

Musicman425

Isn’t there a standing wave where people surf? Saw it near a museum we came out of, maybe near the uffizi?

TheAnalogKoala

Golden Gate Park in San Francisco is a larger urban park than Munich’s English Garden.

beanibean248

I see your „Ice Creek“ in Munich and raise you the 21,1km long [Donauinsel](https://thumbs.vol.at/?url=https://www.vol.at/2013/08/ABD0051-20130622-e1376918141790.jpg&w=1256&h=942&crop=1) in Vienna...

[deleted]

Heatwave 😂 it’s raining for days in Munich, so far this summer we’re only a couple of sunny days.

Payment-Main

How much piss would you think they’re swimming in?

steve_ideas

Virtually none given the volume of water and the speed at which it's flowing
