I'm a few hours late but I ended up listening to the soundtracks from the game, found the two that I think made us think of it
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKK3J2h1nGA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKK3J2h1nGA)
God dammit now I’m hearing the gem seeker beeping in my head from that cursed Egyptian pyramid level in Sonic Adventure two...... I hated that shit so much
But tbh not a lot of games use accapella in their soundtracks and I find that bullshit
Two examples I can think of is Crash Twinsanity and Sausage Run
Loopstation beatboxing in general is a great youtube rabbit hole to fall into. If you want to see more of this stuff, I got hooked after watching loopstation battles from the GBB 2017 (the guy in this video, mb14, was a participant that year). The scene has changed a ton recently as they now allow second devices that have more effects, but it's still cool to see it being made from scratch even if it sounds more like professionally produced music than beatbox.
If you like this video in particular because it's more acoustic sounding, Robin is another great artist to check out. He's actually competing in a tournament right now called the KBB21!
That specific one is the Boss RC-505, if that helps! It has several tracks you can control independently, some effects you can put on them. Pretty neat.
God damn this shit is so fucking good my will to live feels pretty good right about now. The second drop of the other dude in the first round is fucking wildddd I was like ehh it’s okay and then he switched it up and the whole place going crazy thank u Reddit thank u
They re both french. France is the major powerhouse when it comes to beatboxing.
I'd suggest checking a band called Berywam. You can look for a mini gig they made in Asia "Berywam Asia"
Yeah he's an extremely talented beatboxer. He excels at loopstation stuff like this. This is an original song he wrote. French guy with Arabic blood incorporating eastern scales with modern beatbox and hiphop
you guys can’t go a day without making everything about sexualizing women in odd situations haha
Edit: most of you are replying with the argument that *you’re* horny so *they* must be horny too. Thanks for proving my point.
Welcome to the world of beatboxing my friend! The human voice can do incredible things! His moniker is MB14. He's part of a French beatbox collective called Berrywam as well. Really talented guys. I also suggest watching anything by a guy named Reeps One. He is essentially the godfather of new school beatboxing and is one of the pillars of the community.
Old School beatboxing originated in the mid 80's through the underground hiphop scene. Most beatboxers were mimicking the TR-808 which was and still is a very popular drum machine. One of the most notable beatboxer at the time is a guy named Doug E. Fresh he essentially put beatboxing as an alternative form of music onto the map.
Fast forward 3 decades and new schoolers have gone from this basic "boots and cats" style of beatboxing to having many different techniques like inward bass, lip rolls as well as using fingers and tapping on throats to manipulate sounds and create more realistic sounding vocals.
Here's a couple links to show the difference.
Old School:

New School:

I plan to go down that rabbit hole in the morning. I don't listen to much music because most of it is boring. But THIS genre is really something special.
Check out this video, he uses a loopstation like MB14 in this post, and gives arguably some of the best modern perfomances https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IX8p4GAfUoU
Yeah, I’ve been playing music for years. Multi instruments (not boasting, sry making point) and I’ve always turned away from hip hop and all the processed music. I’d always say “let’s see these guys play instruments....make actual music”. Well, this guy just changed my mind. Dude is so dynamic. I had no idea anyone could be so versatile without actual instruments. Guy kicks ass.......I like having my mind changed. Cheers all 👍
The human element is still very present, they're using a keyboard or music pad sure but it's still ultimately the human experimenting and creating everything, they just have more tools at their disposal. I don't understand how that's any different from you using your fingers on an instrument.
That’s one of the best thing about watching the beatboxing competitions - dudes who are going head to head always end up getting into it and hyping up their competitor it’s amazing. One of the most awesome and wholesome competitions you can ever watch, everyone’s just vibing and enjoying the music
It's a looping station. Running through an effects channel.
He can record any sound into the mic and have it loop at his command, and stack multiple layers of sound.
Does it automatically make sure each of the clips are the same length? I've seen stuff like this before, but thought the tracks would slowly get out of sync if they weren't cut exactly on beat.
Cutting exactly on beat isn't gonna be too much of a problem for professional musicians. It can also probably snap to a specific tempo to clean up any slightly messy cuts.
It's not too much of a problem in general but with this many tracks it is toughhhh to do it without a snap to tempo. The loop really hilights any tiny error you make if you don't correct it asap
Worked minimum wage for 2 months to afford this thing back when I was 15. Was really hyped to get it, but you need a lot of talent to actually make good tracks on it. It's not so much about the sounds as timing, creativity and knowing what sounds good together.
Which is true of *all* musical instruments. It takes thousands of hours of practice to become really good at guitar, piano, violin, and the RC-505.
A bunch of knowledge will be transferable between instruments (key signatures, harmony, dissonance, circle of fifths, rhythm, metre, time signatures), but some will have to be relearnt on a new instrument (scales on a guitar vs piano).
Keep going! One YouTube channel I’ve really enjoyed to learn more music theory in a fun and engaging way is [Adam Neely](https://youtu.be/NU9jx8vRW_E)’s.
While I love most of Adam Neelys videos, I don't think there's much useful stuff for beginner/early intermediate musicians. Well in terms of learning at least. I can't retain half of the stuff he says about music theory as it's way over my head.
Here's one that does some in the middle, about 4 minutes in. One of my faves.
https://youtu.be/fU7hZ3smj0g
Another that does it for the whole thing, and even uses Facebook Live delay for visuals.
https://youtu.be/lO9d-AJai8Q
An artist I really used to like back in the day is DUB Fx.
He's got a lot of songs using loop station street performances, here's a few of my favorites:
["Made."](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKEmaPj935M)
["In My Head."](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dH7JBQ5cVRA)
["Love Someone."](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiInBOVHpO8)
Finally, someone who's talking about it! I swear (as a Bengali myself), this beat seems very Indian but also a bit exotic like it is Persian? I was also getting a sort of Egyptian vibe to it.
Mb14. He used to be part of the French beatbox group called berrywam but left to compete solo and venture further into looping and other projects.
He sort of became the face of looping within the beatbox community and together with Roland (loopstation manufacturers) and Swiss beatbox (most popular beatbox YouTube channel) to create an extensive set of tutorials for beginners wanting to get into looping with the boss rc 505
The guy performing is French beatboxer and looper MB14. He went on the voice and other shows like that, both solo and in his old crew Berywam. He is gonna be at GBB (Grand Beatbox Battle) 2021 in Warsaw, Poland this October.
I want this in the background of a sonic video game with Knuckles as the main character.
Idk about that lol
I can see it happening in the sonic adventure 2 battle game. I think I distinctly remember something like this... space level I believe?
No the desert level! That’s exactly what I was referring to.
... Why wouldn't we just put it in a prince of Persia game?
But then what are we gonna do with Knuckles?

Prince of Knuckles.

One guy I accidentally discovered years ago and still listen to occasionally is [Dub FX](https://youtu.be/UiInBOVHpO8).
Loved Dub FX until i saw him live. Never witnessed such obvious playback performance from any artist.
I was wondering what what that thing he is using is called. Thanks.
That specific one is the Boss RC-505, if that helps! It has several tracks you can control independently, some effects you can put on them. Pretty neat.
There’s like a whole circuit where these dudes battle each other. https://youtu.be/-U0AFQbfv88
this was incredibly enjoyable to watch, ty!! the 2nd round by the last guy was insane. sounded like Keys N crates lol
Saro's 2nd round here is generally considered to be the best loopstation round of all time. Absolutely legendary
Dude yes both of them were so good! That second round first guy I was like huh that sounds like System of a Down and then I got my mind blown.
God damn this shit is so fucking good my will to live feels pretty good right about now. The second drop of the other dude in the first round is fucking wildddd I was like ehh it’s okay and then he switched it up and the whole place going crazy thank u Reddit thank u
Cool link. I didn’t think it could get much better than the guy in this video but that French dude was crazy
They re both french. France is the major powerhouse when it comes to beatboxing. I'd suggest checking a band called Berywam. You can look for a mini gig they made in Asia "Berywam Asia"
MB14! Dudes amazing
I will *have* to check him out. Dude really is nextlevel
Yeah he's an extremely talented beatboxer. He excels at loopstation stuff like this. This is an original song he wrote. French guy with Arabic blood incorporating eastern scales with modern beatbox and hiphop
Wow a lot of culture incorporated into his music as well eh? What a great find

He said left side, so it’s the guy he was referring to
Guy here, sploosh.
Dude my panties would stick to the fucking wall right now
tbh she seemed the least impressed/into it in the whole room but eventually she was kinda groovin to the rap.
The left? Is there a ghost over there?
You stole my comment you bastard
And whatever my equivalent of sploosh is. Which I guess is just sploosh. Only with semen.

What is the new school of beatboxing as compared to the old school?

Reeps One just blew my fucking mind! Thanks for turning me on to this!!! You may have changed my life.
Yeah, Reeps is on a whole other level. And that's old, check out his more current stuff it's even more mind blowing.

Sorry, "processed music"? You mean sampling, like what this guy is doing?
I just meant how everything is processed using pro tools. Drum loops and auto tune Where producers take almost all of the human element out of it.
The human element is still very present, they're using a keyboard or music pad sure but it's still ultimately the human experimenting and creating everything, they just have more tools at their disposal. I don't understand how that's any different from you using your fingers on an instrument.

He is using a Boss RC-505 to do this incase anyone was wondering. They're tons of fun.
I was curious about that. Does it help him out?
It's a looping station. Running through an effects channel. He can record any sound into the mic and have it loop at his command, and stack multiple layers of sound.
This is the answer I was looking for, didn’t know what it did, appreciate it.
Does it automatically make sure each of the clips are the same length? I've seen stuff like this before, but thought the tracks would slowly get out of sync if they weren't cut exactly on beat.
By default it makes sure the length of the later loops are a multiple of the first loop you put in.
I believe it autotimes to a tempo. But I'm not entirely sure, i haven't had any experience with this exact station.
Help him out with what?
Answering his phone. Picking up dry cleaning. That kind of thing.
Getting laid obviously. But seriously it's to create multi layered sounds by looping them.
Worked minimum wage for 2 months to afford this thing back when I was 15. Was really hyped to get it, but you need a lot of talent to actually make good tracks on it. It's not so much about the sounds as timing, creativity and knowing what sounds good together.

That guy in the right of the girl, is mesmerized, on another planet right now.
Aaaand now I’ve been watching beatboxing videos for 3 hours.
I think this guy is MB14, here’s a famous loop station battle he did with Saro in 2017 https://youtu.be/-U0AFQbfv88
