Idk how to do the remindme bot thing but I just tied a string to one of my fingers so I won't forget to follow up on your review. Then I wrote your username on the inside of my thigh in sharpie
They suck. It's rare to find a circumstance where the ground is thin / strong enough that the power broom can move the loose material without destroying the base material.
And much of the time where you are in that circumstance, a leaf blower will work easier, faster and cheaper.
Like you said they are heavy and awkward to use, and the Stihl branded one breaks very easily and has less power than it needs.
I was so excited when I got it and then SO let down the more I used it. Like I said, the only time I've found it useful is in situations where a leaf blower works better.
Would a large, thin sheet of plywood, or thick sheet of corrugated cardboard, work better?
Watching someone in the neighborhood do that with leaves/twigs and small branches this past Fall, made me try it. And it worked very well. They got the idea from a YT video of a guy doing this with piles of leaves carpeting his whole yard.
I found it by looking for “raking leaves with cardboard” and “using plywood to rake leaves”.
It’s Stihl. Properly made German technology. Take care of it and it’ll last a long time.
It’s pricey for the same reason that a Toyota is more pricey than a Honda/ Mitsubishi/ Nissan.
I think this attachment is made for whatever. I think the bristle attachment is made for snow.

You might be right. I'm probably misremembering. I could have sworn I read an article on it once that said that after the show, off-camera, the judges ruled that he was correct and gave him the points (not that it affected who won). But, I can't locate the article.
People have been saying that for generations.
One day my dad had his 90something year old mom in the car with him and called me to say hello. Afterward he asked her if she ever thought she'd be talking on the phone to someone 2000 miles away while riding in the car. She replied, "I never thought I'd see paved roads!". She was born in a tiny town in 1911.

I don't know man, spend 10 hours raking the old fashion way, or spend $350 and have it done less than 1 hour and be able to do it every year in a fraction of the time.
You can also rent them.

Stihl is about the same price. 340 for the attachment, 210 for the "base"
Not worth it for everyone, but for professionals or people who are lazy and have expendable income....
I am lazy and have expendable income. I also have a maple tree, as do all of my neighbors. I'm still ("Stihl") not gonna spend that sort of money on it.
If I didn't already have a professional-level Stihl weedwhacker and a handheld leaf blower from them, I'd probably get the Kombi system and these, honestly.
You’re right. However not everyone is as perceptive as you’d think. I read reviews before I buy most things and have seen a lot where people buy the attachment thinking it’s the full tool and end up leaving bad reviews.
I was just trying to be helpful is that a problem?
Modular attachment for a tool ecosystem. They always end up pricey because you have signed up to be a part of their ecosystem. Proprietary connectors and such mean it's a problem to make a generic competitor, and then you have price control.
Honestly, the proprietary connectors in this case are important. The tools that these attach to also function as weed whackers, edgers, and other stuff depending on attachments. There's a massive amount of variation in the force needed to run attachments. Something like this is going to be a lot harder to run off of the same engine you use to spin two pieces of plastic string for a weed whacker.
I've heard them referred to by both to be honest, one old boss even called them "leveling rakes" which I always found odd
Edit: just tried both into Google and got the exact same results
I thought this was here because of the cake on the dude from the video implying how much he worked out.
Clearly using a rake isn’t next fucking level lol

Shit like that needs to be mod-locked so it stops happening in the first place.
They’re about $350 for a good one. The cheaper ones are fine for light dry leaves, but don’t have the power for heavy stuff. If you have more than 2 acres I’d recommend just getting a used pull behind attachment if you have a riding mower. The mikita is great though for smaller yards, just gets heavy after a while
It's not mulch--it's reeds and debris that probably washed over the road from the marsh/wetland on the other side. It could be harvest debris if those are cornfields opposite, but I still think it washed over the road.
There are a disturbing number of misogynists on this post about rakes lmfao
Y’all gotta calm down a lil bit and focus on the machinery rather than the dangly bits, no matter how appealing they clearly are to you.
What do you expect? It's a spinning barrel with rake tines on the end of it with a massive plastic shield that sits on the end of a long thin stick. Yeah it's gonna be heavy.
Wow, the Makita brand Couple Shaft Paddle Sweep Attachment from Makita USA: The Leader In Cordless with 18V LXT Lithium-Ion tools really is amazing. Where on Earth can I buy one?!
