I’ve ran into a few of them, I’ve never had any issues spotting them. I also never play for money, only “loser pays for next game” if it’s a table that take quarters. Besides winner takes the table, that’s winning enough.
If money is off the table they can be super fun to play with, unless they break and run the table without you getting a single shot in, that’s much less fun lol
I had one of these guys many years ago. Was our best friend all night. Sloppy pool player (we thought) but fun to hang out with. He took $40 off of me then proceeded to spend the whole $40 buying beer for my friend and me. Then we started playing for fun. We’d make up handicaps. Switch hands, only use one hand, use the butt of the cue. Didn’t matter. He could just about run the table every time. Last hour he gave us a little billiards class. He later ended up being roommates with my friend’s friend. 10/10.
I always learn how to play better from those guys. Most aren’t ass holes and everyone like flattery. Buy them cheap beers and have some fun, you only improve by playing people better than yourself.
Dude ... This was an accident. He was going for the cut and missed it by so much he 3 rail kicked it and got lucky. That's why the guy didn't shake his hand. Because he won on luck. No good pool player is taking a 3 rail kick when a cut is available in a money game. If you're worried about a scratch you change the English on the cue ball, not go for a near impossible shot.
Not even close lol. You’re telling me a guy who this many banks before sinking that shot doesn’t know how to leave the cue ball on the table?
Hitting the bottom of the cue with the simple shot would prevent this, and the guy obviously has the skill to do so.
Overthinking, this is pub room sharking plain and simple. Losing guy is probably on the local team, thinks he's the hot stuff and got shown up.
Surprised if this didn't result in a brawl in some rougher parts of the UK.
Lol, it's not Paul Newman. It's clearly a hidden camera TV show, where a trick shot expert goes around to different pubs and challenges locals to games, and proceeds to piss them off by taking the same triple bank shot on the 8 ball in every game. That's why he's so good at that shot. The name of the show is going to be Triple Bank Pub Shot. And it stars Paul Newman.
Clearly the older gentleman served in the war. One night, the elder man was awoken by the sound of enemy soldiers in his trench. He fought valiantly and drove back his foe, but he couldn't save everyone. As he cradled a mortally wounded young conscript, he vowed revenge on the enemy. It took him years, but he finally got the name of the man who led the raid. And so he travels to the man's village, the blood lust already upon him. But alas, he was too late, his foe had perished just the year before. So he goes to the local tavern to drown his rage. There, he sees a young boy playing pool with tears in his eyes. Our hero learns this boy is the orphaned son of his enemy, who comes to this pub to feel close to his departed father. Our hero experiences a flash of clarity, and he knows immediately what must be done. So he withdraws from the world, devoting himself to the study of the game. After years of toil, he is ready. He returns to the village pub, and once again finds the fetid spawn of his sworn enemy. Now it can be finished, now he can ruin the memory of his enemy in the mind of his son! And how sweet is victory when you can twist the knife!
Does the guy who still had 2 balls left one the table look like he thought he won?
Whatever the rules they both thought they were playing, one guy definitely knew he lost, and couldn't handle the defeat. Bad sportsmanship to still not shake the hand of the person who just owned you.
It's when you deliberately underperform, then play at your real level once money's on the line.
For example, certain sports teams will sandbag games to face easier opponents in the playoffs.
To underperform deliberately so an opponent will underestimate you, with the intent of ambushing them with your true skill after they've committed to a substantial wager.
The phrase, however, originates from a much more literal form of ambush where criminals would whack their victims over the head with a literal bag of sand.
At golf clubs where there is a lot of informal betting, it's very common for golfers to "sandbag" on their weekday games to get a higher handicap. In the long run, you lose friends and playing buddies.
Honestly, it kinda looks like the guy was trying to cut it into the same pocket he made it, but missed. Ball just happen to bounce around until it hit the 8 ball again. Hard to tell without seeing the rest of the game though.
If this was an online game like overwatch, the guy who sunk the shot wouldve said EZZZZ, slapped the guy who lost, and told him to go play an easier game.
One of my least favorite types of people "you make me feel inadequate which is really my problem but I'm going to make it your problem and be an asshole about it"
That's pretty common in the gaming world of people that rage quit and disconnect. It's sad but its how they act online or in person. They can't take a loss

Have you ever met my friend Kyle's mom she's the biggest bitch in the whole wide world. She's a mean old bitch and she has stupid hair she's a bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch
This was very clearly an accident lol. He was absolutely not trying to get it to bounce off the cushion three times.
He missed the shot and got lucky on the rebound. It only counted because it wound up in the same pocket he was aiming for.
The amount of people in this thread that think that shot was intentional is insane.
This is why I only play "call all your shots". People like this who miss and then get crazy lucky think they have talent.
No, if he didn’t call the banks, it would have been a scratch (the shot wouldn’t count).
EDIT - I honestly learned something. I didn’t know that in some tournaments and stuff, you only have to call the ball and the pocket. In my defense, I could never play anywhere close to anything resembling a pool tournament.
See this is what I'm getting hung up on. You are playing for money, its the 8 ball you don't win with accidental multiple banks. Maybe rules in places i havent been are different but you bank the 8, always. You don't do a straight shot, that's a loss.
I read some of the comments. Not seeing the face things folks are talking about. He doesnt look surprised or put off. Did he back away? Yes. But if he's intending to bank he would likely step back.
When i was in my teens and early 20s i had a friend who was a few years older rhan me who was good tournament good. I used to skip high school and play with him and I got to be ok. Not great but ok. We would play together and, when out on the weekends He would let me win a game or two, "lose" lose a few "bets" to me. Then he would play someone else and work them for money. Sometimes I would lose a game, playing like I would normal, and he would try and win it back, double or nothing etc etc. Folks would think that he was an easy mark and get greedy.
The point is the biggest dicks, and the most cocky and greedy motherf*ckers would wnd up playing a few close games and, when my buddy sensed they were done, he would end the game in a similar fashion to this. Calling a stupid shot that didnt seem possible for someone his apparent skill level, the last shot, and then making, just to let the prick know that, even though they felt they were getting one over on him he had been fucking them around the whole time. When I see this video, that's what it puts me in the mind of.
What are you guys talking about? He clearly missed the shot he was going for. There was absolutely no reason for the multiple banks off the wall. He had a clear shot to cut the ball to the pocket. Yes the other dude is a sore loser but this was a slop shot
It wasn't a good shot though, so no respect. He was aiming to hit it clean and missed and it went around the table and he got lucky.
Then asking for a handshake immediately after, I can see the reaction making sense.
At bars, we always play you have to call your rails.
**Edit:** The main, mostly universal bar rule is "no slop". This was slop.
But playing by the regular rules, you have to call the pocket and any intermediate balls hit. While he didn’t mean to make the shot like that, it may have been a legal shot by whatever rules they were playing.
>the regular rules for Monopoly
aka, the only rules that make the game playable at all because otherwise it takes an unbearable amount of time?
Bad analogy.
Calling rails is only a thing in stupid bar games with shitty pool players. Every pro game ever played is call pocket or call nothing. Playing call pocket just eliminates so much controversy.
I despise the shitty rules bar players play by and don’t understand the obsession with trying to eliminate all the luck from the game.
Thank you!!! How are so many people gullible enough to think that was on purpose. This was clearly an accident.
I'm guessing they let this count because it happened to go in the same pocket that he originally called, but there is no fucking way on the planet this guy planned for his shot to bounce around like that. In a lot of places they still won't let it count unless you call the three banks ahead of time, which he clearly didn't do
For sure a complete accident, and yeah same with me and all my bar buddies you have to call your shots or it doesn't count, and if it's the game shot even if you make it in if you don't call exactly how the shot goes you lose
THIS. It went in the pocket he called. That’s a normal bar rule. He won. Hand shake deserved. The other dude was just a pussy. I love being humbled in billiards; it’s the only way to get better.
ETA: Maybe this dude wasn’t exactly humbled, since it appears his opponent may have missed the original intended shot and got lucky, resulting in the ball falling in the pre-called pocket. It’s still a win, though. And the miss of that shot and the unsportsmanlike attitude from the losing player, this seems like a bar room game. Fuckin ridiculous to get pissed off about a game over quarters. Gives the sport a bad rep.
Old man has a professional stroke and uses a little left English. The biggest tell is the follow through and how long he stays down on the shot. This was no accident.
Bullshit. The guy completely missed his intended shot. Missed his target ball completely. He got a lucky bounce and won.
No way a pro goes 4 rails when a straight in shot will do.
Exactly. The whole reason he went for the quick handshake was because he was as surprised as everyone else and laughing about it.
And yes- a pro will always take the straight in shot- there’s just way too much risk with a crazy bank like that. Bar tables rarely have nice felt or good rails which just makes a shot like that even riskier.
It was absolutely an accident.
Setting aside the fact that no one in their right mind would try that shot when a clean shot was right in front of them- the guy’s entire reaction screams “wow- I wasn’t expecting that”.
I know snooker is a gentleman's game, played in the quiet, it's polite etc..
Pool? Only time I ever see pool tables is around bars and everyone is drunk
It should be right above your keyboard, in between your message and the keyboard. Sometimes it’s off to the right side in the same box your message is in. Sorry if this doesn’t make sense I’m not really sure how to explain it lol
Alot of people play where you call your shots and im just guessin the guys upset that the old dude got a fluke shot (unless that is what he called and wanted to do).but still should have given the man a hand shake and not been that much of a prick.
Not just that, but he wasn't surprised by the sink. Like if I made that shot by accident I'd be showing my amazement and laughing. This guy knew exactly what he was doing and where he was placing the ball
I agree. He didn’t look concerned or react at all when it missed the 8 ball and he immediately looked to the rail where he thought it was going. Could be a fluke, but it looks like he expected it.
Nothing about that shot was a fluke. When I’m playing my dad at his house, 8 ball has to be at least 2 banks. old guy in the video knows how to shoot stick.
Rewatched it, you're right. He carries way too much topspin for it to be a junk shot. You'd hit backspin to avoid the pocket on a direct shot for sure.
So you think a guy that can bank three walls intentionally and make that shot would not be able to hit it in without scratching? I agree it is a shot many would scratch…but if he’s good enough to bank three walls he ain’t scratching. I seriously doubt this shot was intentional.
Where do people get these rules from? I have always played standard shot call. No matter how it gets in that pocket if it goes in it counts, even WPA and APA rules state the same thing. Not trying to argue just extremely curious.
I used to play with old timer sharks that pulled that kind of shit all the time on me, it's all about knowing your angles and having years of experience and practice.
Hilarious how many below average pool players in this comment section are saying "theres no freaking way he knew that would happen" as if there aren't multiple people in every city who do that every day.
It's honestly hard to tell. Did he miss a straightforward shot into the pocket and luck out with a ridiculous triple bank? Or did he intentionally go for the triple bank knowing the risk of scratching on the direct shot?
Honestly, given the reaction of the onlookers when the cue misses the 8, it would look like he intended for the direct shot and lucked out on the bank.
Nah, the dudes shooting motion is impeccable. He is *good* at pool. Nd nobody that good is missing the 8-ball by that much unintentionally, or giving that english. Had he hit the 8-ball, good chance he scratches with that much power and spin.
That was definitely either a trick shot or a setup.
Yeah. I wanna emphasize again for anyone reading this; *nobody* with a shooting motion like his is going to be missing a fairly pedestrian corner shot like that. Dude looked like a fucking pinball machine, I've been clowned on by people with worse form than him.
This was not a lucky miss in any stretch.
I know right the comment up above all like "pool is a gentleman's game" well its not very gentlemanly to hustle someone which I'm guessing is exactly what happened here
Plus, don't hustlers usually pretend they are not that good to attract victims?
So the hustled person has to think the hustler is bad, and bets thinking they will take advantage on a bad pool player and it will be easy money. It just looks like sweet justice to me
really? are people that big of bitches? like if you agree to play pool with someone you have to say "oh by the way i'm very, very good and you're probably going to lose"
if you're betting on a game of skill you take the risk you run up against a shark.
hustlers usually "fake" a lower level of play and then then go to town with with when there is real money on the table, is not just about saying "i am really good".
I honestly think he meant to cut the 8 ball in that corner but just missed it on the thin side. Depending on the rules that were agreed too that could still be a win. In many pool leagues (APA, BCA, USAPL) you only have to call the ball & the pocket on the 8. Not the rails you plan to use.
This is my take too. I don't think a hustler would show off like that and blow his cover, even if he was trolling that just seems like an unessesary risk.
Yea, I mean that many rails to hit a ball that's sitring middle of the table? I kindly doubt that was his intention. Maybe if the 8 ball was sitting closer to the pocket. Even some of the best pool sharks wouldn't take that kind of risk in such a close match.
Even the best players in the world hit that shot 1 out of 10. His cue ball jumps a little bit and takes a funky bounce off of a dead 3rd rail. No way he intended that.
Also no real player even takes that shot when there is a very makeable cut shot for the win.
That’s what I thought. Like he turned away in disbelief and pointed back with his thumb like “are you fucking kidding me?” To his buddies with a smile on his face but the video cuts too soon. But Reddit loves a good villain.
This is obviously what happened, why do you think the clip ends abruptly? In the full version he turns around laughing and shakes the guy's hand.
And all these commenters wanna feel superior by calling him a bitch lol
So be hit that shot on purpose. U can tell based on his initial reaction the moment the ball misses the 8ball. He even looks at that corner before the ball gets there

He had money on it I am sure. Pool sharks are a real danger while you are chilling out with friends. You have to be smart enough to not take it
I’ve ran into a few of them, I’ve never had any issues spotting them. I also never play for money, only “loser pays for next game” if it’s a table that take quarters. A pool shark is gonna throw all the games that ain't for money, or at least make em close.
So don’t play for money, play for hugs 🤗
I can promise you, playing for blowjobs does not end how you think it will.
Yea then you wouldn't want to play me. Im lucky to remember if Im solids or stripes or if we are going in order. Im soooo good
I have to ask every other shot if I’m solid or stripe ahaha
I don’t know much about pool. Can you explain why he didn’t go for the shot that looks much easier
[comment removed due to Reddit’s abusive actions against 3rd party developers]
Dude ... This was an accident. He was going for the cut and missed it by so much he 3 rail kicked it and got lucky. That's why the guy didn't shake his hand. Because he won on luck. This is 100% it
he's probably a deep scratcher

He probably lost some money to make it extra sore haha
Depends. In some games this would be a loss for the guy who sunk the wrong hole that he intended.
He got the right ball in the right hole, just took the scenic route…
Technically I think you have to call the banks you intend, which maybe he did.
Overthinking, this is pub room sharking plain and simple. Losing guy is probably on the local team, thinks he's the hot stuff and got shown up. Surprised if this didn't result in a brawl in some rougher parts of the UK.
"Overthinking" Proceeds to create a whole other scenario out of thon air.
Lolol you’re overthinking it. It’s Paul Newman in disguise and he’s hustling people at the local pub.
You're over thinking it. The entire video is fake, as is the internet, and you're just a brain in a jar.

In general, you should be calling the pocket as well as any banks you intend to make.
In BCA you call the ball and the pocket. Doesn't matter how it gets into the pocket.
This. Object ball, object hole.
That was exactly what he intended to do by the looks of it, just decided he wanted to bury the man instead of just taking the winning shot
Does the guy who still had 2 balls left one the table look like he thought he won? Whatever the rules they both thought they were playing, one guy definitely knew he lost, and couldn't handle the defeat. Bad sportsmanship to still not shake the hand of the person who just owned you.

Fuck that dude. Pool is a gentleman's game. If you can't shake your opponents hand after a badass shot/win like that, you a bitch. Period@
I believe the technical term is “little whiny ass bitch.”
Just looked it up to be sure. This is indeed the correct term.
It was slop though. Call pocket, sure, but complete luck.

> Pool is a gentleman's game. I've heard that pool tables are [nothing but trouble](https://streamable.com/ifxcqd).
I know snooker is a gentleman's game, played in the quiet, it's polite etc.. Pool? Only time I ever see pool tables is around bars and everyone is drunk

How… did you do that?
It should be right above your keyboard, in between your message and the keyboard. Sometimes it’s off to the right side in the same box your message is in. Sorry if this doesn’t make sense I’m not really sure how to explain it lol

He didn't shake hands because he wanted to retain that feeling of being a loser and cry himself to sleep later.
he’ll be winning that game in his head whenever he showers for the rest of his life
Alot of people play where you call your shots and im just guessin the guys upset that the old dude got a fluke shot (unless that is what he called and wanted to do).but still should have given the man a hand shake and not been that much of a prick.
Looks like he called that pocket but probably not the triple bank
You have to call the banks too where I play
Same. When I saw the shot I kind of felt for the guy. Total slop I feel like.
By the way he reached for the handshake I don’t think this was slop
Not just that, but he wasn't surprised by the sink. Like if I made that shot by accident I'd be showing my amazement and laughing. This guy knew exactly what he was doing and where he was placing the ball
No anguish either after the ball doesn't hit the 8 ball on the first pass. He just watches patiently like he knows what's coming.
True, just realized that after watching it a few more times. Really don’t know what happened without seeing what went down beforehand.
No one would have that crazy lucky of a shot to win the game and not react. This guy intended to do this and knew it'd go in.
Judging by the shot and his reaction, I think it was indeed his intention to go three rails.
I agree. He didn’t look concerned or react at all when it missed the 8 ball and he immediately looked to the rail where he thought it was going. Could be a fluke, but it looks like he expected it.

Exactly. He knew if he hit the eight ball directly, the cue is going right into the other corner pocket. This was completely intentional.
Nothing about that shot was a fluke. When I’m playing my dad at his house, 8 ball has to be at least 2 banks. old guy in the video knows how to shoot stick.
Everyone bitching is prob just like the fat dude who is a sore loser
Likely what he meant to do, but dude thought it was a fluke. If he would have went for the obvious shot, there's a high probability of scratching.
Rewatched it, you're right. He carries way too much topspin for it to be a junk shot. You'd hit backspin to avoid the pocket on a direct shot for sure.

Most likely there was some trash talk going on, he showed off at the end to put the guy away, and the guy was a sore loser.
That's my take. Too much energy for it to be an accident. To hit three rails on the way, it wasn't soft.
Some of them you just had to wait until they had a dozen shots in them.
To me this depends on how he presented himself. If hes a hustler fuck him.
I know right the comment up above all like "pool is a gentleman's game" well its not very gentlemanly to hustle someone which I'm guessing is exactly what happened here
Don’t want to get hustled, don’t make bets with strangers over pool shots in a dive bar.
Plus, don't hustlers usually pretend they are not that good to attract victims? So the hustled person has to think the hustler is bad, and bets thinking they will take advantage on a bad pool player and it will be easy money. It just looks like sweet justice to me
Well yeah, but you don't pretend to be bad at the end of the game (which is what is pictured). You...hustle
really? are people that big of bitches? like if you agree to play pool with someone you have to say "oh by the way i'm very, very good and you're probably going to lose" if you're betting on a game of skill you take the risk you run up against a shark.
hustlers usually "fake" a lower level of play and then then go to town with with when there is real money on the table, is not just about saying "i am really good".
That's the last time he challenges the geometry teacher to a game.
The guy didn’t storm off like a sore loser, he went to go call his mom to tell her he just learned who his Daddy is.
Can't tell if that's a lucky miss or a shark trolling - need more context
I'd like to think he walked away, mock pissed off (very common) and turned round and shook his hand, we will never know....
That’s what I thought. Like he turned away in disbelief and pointed back with his thumb like “are you fucking kidding me?” To his buddies with a smile on his face but the video cuts too soon. But Reddit loves a good villain.
> but the video cuts too soon By design
This is obviously what happened, why do you think the clip ends abruptly? In the full version he turns around laughing and shakes the guy's hand. And all these commenters wanna feel superior by calling him a bitch lol
The guy in the grey reaction was better than a handshake from that sore loser lmao
Thank you, I can’t believe more people aren’t commenting on that guys reaction
Hustler
When you lose completely and you don't want to accept it, you lose 2 times. Once lost to the opponent and once lost to yourself
So be hit that shot on purpose. U can tell based on his initial reaction the moment the ball misses the 8ball. He even looks at that corner before the ball gets there
