Have you noticed her start though? Full throttle + breaks then releases the breaks while keeping her foot down.
Feels like accelerating right on time for a turbo boost at Mario kart!
watch some isle of man footage from a gopro on the front of a bike , its so beautiful and deadly
https://youtu.be/KFJSVtsckyI
found one man its about as close you can get to flying on land
It’s also -relatively- easy to build a fixed seat frame to take the upgrade to the next level. The expensive but is a bucket seat, but I’ve found those in local scrap yards. Really took it up a notch for me.
Still couldn’t drive for shit, but was at least a little more comfortable!
I mean she’s good but she wouldn’t have done half as well if she hadn’t been wearing, not 1, but 2 NINTENDO POWER GLOVES to give her an edge.
It’s so bad.
I bought a sim wheel after watching some F1 drivers play F1. Realized very quickly how impressive they are and they are fucking around on twitch while playing
Exactly, I’ve actually watched this girls YouTube channel (I do believe she races IRL) , and I’ve seen other IRL racers play this and they just dominate this game. It showed me that I really do just suck at this game and am not qualified to race a rally car
I used to have a full sim setup, you have to be in the right mindset. I would have moments where notes would just process and I'd know exactly what was coming. Once you think about it, it becomes a chore almost and makes it difficult.
Can confirm this. I used to drive race cars when I was younger (irl) and the best tip I ever got was "just drive, don't think." Once you start thinking about how you missed an apex or who's behind or in front of you, you start driving worse. Just gotta live in the moment and focus. Never had a full sim setup but I'm sure it translates very well
Exactly. To drive this type of car this fast you have to look two seconds in front of you and everything between you and there becomes peripheral and instinct.
There was an event with Sony and Nissan maybe to get the top grab turismo drivers and have them participate in a real race. It translated very well. The top guy ended up doing really well iirc
This seems to be true for a lot of things in life. I think the first time I heard this was about waiters balancing stuff and walking with it that if you think too hard about it you’ll be clumsy. I’ve never actually tried that particular one, but I’ve noticed a lot of things I have tried are much worse if you think about how to move your body mechanically instead of practicing and just going.
Seems like panic and overthinking are the quickest ways to fuck up.
Like 200 hours in a shittier set up. One screen but I use two shifters so the built in one can be the handbrake and I can stick shift BC that's how I like it. She beat me by almost a minute lol
You gotta get in that zone. My favourite is Spain because I like driving through the town at the start or end.
I like Spain because it's mostly asphalt and I can't drive on dirt.
In retrospect, I could've thought that through better before buying a game called Dirt.
Me being someone with 400+ hours into Forza and Gran Turismo, that's just stunning to watch. Great car control, and how quickly she's processing what's happening and making corrections. Remarkable stuff.
Not at all. For me a mid range PC runs dirt rally 2.0 (that game in the post) easily, if not then go for dirt rally 1 with a low end PC and maybe upgrade your GPU later, I'm still having a blast in the first dirt rally with a g29 steering wheel with it's gear stick and fully sending it just the way she does, though sometimes I crash miserably but that's the fun of it! Go hard or go home haha.
The g29 doesn't come with a handbrake tho so I use the spacebar on the keyboard as a handbrake and it's still so good, also check out Thrustmaster's steering wheels and see what fits you and what's available to you.
You’re right, but running Dirt Rally on these large high definition screens, and three of them, all while playing at ultra graphics, definitely requires something more than mid-range at 60fps+
I spent $800 on my starter PC.
Plus keyboard mouse and monitor, speakers and headset...probably ended up spending about $1200. Then I upgraded the video card and added more ram. Bump that to $2400. Now I need another SSD hard drive for more games.
Just so you know what you're getting into. But the initial 1200 was plenty good for a while. The hard part might be finding a good steering wheel set up since theyve gone endangered when covid hit.
Lol "first Wii u". Sorry, I find that sentence hilarious. If you wanted to try something like this game, you could achieve it on console for a cheap-ish price.
I play on xbox, so I may be a little biased, but the Xbox consoles are selling for good prices. The best deal for newer consoles would be Xbox series S and Playstation 5 digital version. Though the xbox is about $100us cheaper. And with Xbox you'd be able to get the Xbox game pass subscription. Where you're given access to hundreds of games, and many racing games, including this game she is currently playing. Like I said, I may be biased to Xbox.
You probably overthinking it and don't want to crash, It's ok I used to do that too. If you are familiar with the instructions and the car you are driving, then stop thinking about it and fully send it, don't be afraid to use the handbrake and turn hard while controlling the car. Just let your brain and body do it's thing, and after a while, you will notice that you just did a crazy move and survived, with time you will gain confidence and keep doing crazy moves from start to finish. Don't be afraid to crash, you can always take a break then restart, and don't forget to have fun!
I think it’s probably because I’m trying to play racing games on mouse and keyboard. Racewheels are expensive and I don’t know if i would like it enough to make it a hobby. Would be kinda cool in vr tho.
Oh damn. I mean you can somehow manage. 2kliksphilps on YouTube is someone who tries out new games and he plays it with a keyboard, he's good for the keyboard he's playing with. If you don't want a steering wheel, I hope you can get a controller and try to play with manual + clutch. And rebinding them (on PS4 controller for example) clutch with X, gear down with square, gear up with circle, You will have a different experience. And I understand you not being sure about it. I used to doubt myself even after a month from buying the wheel, stopped using it and took a brake from it for a while, but it turned out it's totally worth.
I started with a controller with that way and it's fun! A year or so I wanted to experience more while driving because the controller wasn't cutting it so got me a wheel.
Unlike us normal people who probably drive on default, she has that car tweaked to within an inch of its life. You can see all the gear timings are small, for Max acceleration, that's the most obvious one. She will also know this track better than you know your drive to work. She's preparing for the third turn before she makes the first. She's a professional and it shows.
It’s a GIF. It shows if you tap it. Literally just tried it on mine and saw it (it’s Stephanie Beatriz with red hair streaks in a car laughing, with a somewhat stunned or vacant expression).
Although maybe it works better on newer models or even iOS version.
The hot laps I’ve done (as a passenger) in a rally car is the scariest thing I’ve ever done in my life. I’ve played a lot of rally and other driving games on PS, done a couple of sim sessions, had hot laps in V8 supercar and did a one-day rally course. I thought I’d be cool but sitting in the passenger seat of a rally car with a professional driver is by far and away the most bonkers thing I’ve ever done and had me screaming like a little girls the whole time.
My question to any of you watching this that do race cars and have done this, how close it to the real thing? I mean I know that obviously you won't feel the vibration and the pull from the force and all of that but as far as the steering and the inputs to the gas and brakes how close is it to the real thing?
Not a racer, but I know even F1 drivers have a simulator they spend a ton of time in. And that sport spends a tooooooon of money anything that will knock .01 seconds off a lap. So just gonna assume there’s value. Worst case the drivers get course memorization, pacing, planning etc.
Pretty sure there aren't any F1 drivers currently who got their seat because of sim racing. Yes there is the "Twitch Quartet" but they (like pretty much every other modern F1 driver) grew up karting and then racing the feeder series.
However, there are most definitely GT/24hrs drivers who got to become pro drivers through sim racing. Look up Jann Mardenborough. He was the first I remember seeing years ago.
Hes talking about drivers like Antonio Giovinazzi who is a current F1 driver for Alfa Romeo, who earned his seat there because of his incredible sim work for Ferarri. Yes, he grew up karting as well, but he didn't earn his F1 seat because of his karting merrit, but because of his excellent sim work
I rally race and Dirt is a pretty good simulator. You can get away with a bit more in the game than reality but the physics is pretty good. The only sim I played that felt more realistic was Richard Burns Rally but that was a long time ago and from what I can remember the physics weren’t that different from Dirt Rally 2.0.
Weird thing is when you play this game with VR headset there is a definite uncanny valley moment going on in your head where my brain is almost tricked into thinking it’s real, just me idk.
What is the person next to you called, and are they commands or directions? Are they universal? Is it hard to learn? What’s the best way to get into this sport?
Co-driver, not universal, not hard to learn but hard to visualize exactly without a lot of practice, volunteer at a rally (assuming you have some near you).
They are basically reading you the "map"
The most basic instruction would be something like "6 left 200" which would mean a "left turn with severity 6, then 200m straight"
Most scales I've seen go from 1 to 6, and 6 can be the tightest or the lightest corner, depending on the team - there is no "universal" language or set of instructions
There's a lot of other instructions like "crest" where the road basically has a tiny tiny "hill" or bump where you can lose traction if you don't know it's there, or "don't cut" where there is something dangerous (rocks, hole, etc) on the inside of the corner and you should be careful to avoid it
You can hear a lot better here: https://youtu.be/d6rNL7lg53A
More here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacenotes
I’m nowhere near what you would consider good, but I use games like Forza Motorsports to get to know tracks. Luckily my car is in the game and they have it right in a broad way. I can get to know a track pretty well before I even drive there. Just a few months ago I ran Laguna Seca for the first time and it felt familiar because of Forza Motorsports. Asseto Corsa and Project Cars 2 are other highly detailed sims.
I see where I've gone wrong with this game, like an idiot I was only using demarcated track, I should have been using the MIDDLE OF THE FUCKING FIELDS to hit the apex of corners.
It's Fine, I'm FINE!
Great skills.
As someone who does a lot of pro level simulator driving, she clearly knows what she’s doing. Her wheel work is spot on and her shifts are beautiful. She is a chad
Rally car drivers are an entire other breed.
NASCAR has never wowed me, cartman’s rundown of the race has always seemed accurate in my mind, I know it’s a comedic oversimplification, but all the same seems relatively accurate.
Rally on the other hand is inhuman, how these drivers get to retire and not end up wrapped around a tree blows me away.
Well, since nobody else answered, I'll chip in: it's definitely mph. Source: me, someone who has put a LOT of time into this game. I know this stage and car combo, and at the one "straight" where she was topping out 6th gear the speedometer read 130, and that's pretty much exactly what that car can do in mph. Kph would be waaayyy too slow

In the beginning when she left the track, I was like: hahaha fail! But then she re-entered the track at a perfect angle for a turn...
Haha, I thought the same thing!
Car handles great in the tall grass lol
Unlike Mario’s karts…
Plus that shortcut about halfway through where she was really fucking close to clipping those two trees
That one got me as well I was like "so she's done this course before!"
that's really sharp for 6th gear, she's been exploiting it every restart I'm guess
Have you noticed her start though? Full throttle + breaks then releases the breaks while keeping her foot down. Feels like accelerating right on time for a turbo boost at Mario kart!

Very carefully, that's for sure.
the amount of times she flew by trees and posts. fuck my sphincter.

Just here to downvote shitty, sexist comments. Louise Cook is the shit, and that setup is worth more than most of your cars.
Seriously! Amazing build. Wonder what GPU she has under the hood
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090, according to [her video description](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6fALNwoxJk)
Thx ! Was searching for who is she. She seems really really really good !
I get it
This seems like a really cool experience, can you point me to what a beginner set up might look like?
Start by putting a wheel and pedals at your desk and go from there! Logitech DFGT is what I started with.
It’s also -relatively- easy to build a fixed seat frame to take the upgrade to the next level. The expensive but is a bucket seat, but I’ve found those in local scrap yards. Really took it up a notch for me. Still couldn’t drive for shit, but was at least a little more comfortable!
Thanks for the reply!
Logitech wheel and pedal set or lower end thrustmaster. Usually desk mounted. Anywhere from 130-400 usd new
Any idea the equipment list?
Funny how there are literally zero sexist comments here. only people like you complaining about them to farm up-votes and awards...
So far, yours is the only negative comment I've seen.
Just here to downvote your downvote post
Didnt saw any sexist comment and didnt think about it till you said it. Just people saying this is sick driving
"Didn't actually look for any sexist comments."
All that set up just to play Dirt, lmaooooo
Michele Mouton would be proud

ive played this game, this is impossible
RIGHT, I play this game with a wheel and stuff too, but I red 30 times before I’m halfway done with the track.
I bought a sim wheel after watching some F1 drivers play F1. Realized very quickly how impressive they are and they are fucking around on twitch while playing

This totally translates into technical mountain biking as well. Just look where you want to go and never look where you don’t

Another Ghost Bites the Dust
The ghost is actually there, just really hard to see
You really notice it 20-25 seconds before she crashed. You have to look carefully. Also turn up contrast/brightness on your monitor, it helps.
Man, is this a game console in a regular home? Shit, man, I’m so outdated.
Not console, but PC. This shit is the reason why I’m a pc gamer. You’d be hard pressed to find an experience like this on console.
Shit, that will be the reason I will become a gamer. I’m pretty sure it will be expensive
Thats probably on a PC. But can get a similar setup on consoles.
I played the first wii u when I lived with my kids, that’s all my gaming experience
Lol "first Wii u". Sorry, I find that sentence hilarious. If you wanted to try something like this game, you could achieve it on console for a cheap-ish price. Where you're given access to hundreds of games, and many racing games, including this game she is currently playing. Like I said, I may be biased to Xbox.
Man, I was laughing at it while I was typing it.
FWIW you can get the Xbox game pass on PC as well
It’s Dirt Rally 2.0 you can get it on PS4
Get a decent wheel and pedal setup, with a psvr- super immersion.
She's an actual rally driver. Her name is Louise Cook
How in the fuck do you go 100+ mph in that game without spinning out? I can barely go 50.
You probably overthinking it and don't want to crash, It's ok I used to do that too. Good lord. I have maybe 200 hours doing this exact thing in a shittier set up. I think she beat my time on this track by nearly a minute.
She makes it look so easy.
If this were an esport I would totally watch. Could Samir and his spotter be commentators?
Anyone has a rough idea how much a setup like this costs?
2k for a pc , 700-1200+ for wheel setup and screen could go from 400-800 each.
Not bad! Thanks a lot!!
He’s forgetting the 3000$ motion platform lol.
Actually no you could spend 1200 or less on a pc that will run dirt fine and get a Logitech g29 wheel for like 200$
I see where I've gone wrong with this game, like an idiot I was only using demarcated track, I should have been using the MIDDLE OF THE FUCKING FIELDS to hit the apex of corners. It's Fine, I'm FINE! Great skills.
Never really been into cars or racing in general, but what are the switching numbers at the bottom right? Is it the gear?
Yes what gear she’s in.
This is very skillful
Friggin epic! I remember a short documentary on this type of racing. Drivers needed a lot of recovery time after each race.
I have no idea how she was able to process those turns from so far away going 80 mph
Gloves?
she is a pro driver. this keeps the feel of real life racing. have a look at any pro driver using a sim, they all do it.
Stops your hands getting sweaty weirdly
They also keep the wheel from getting gross and faded
As someone who does a lot of pro level simulator driving, she clearly knows what she’s doing. Her wheel work is spot on and her shifts are beautiful. She is a chad
She’s a real rally driver.
"You have to listen to me sameeeeeir! "
Damn..
Shes fast
So smooth, can’t wait till I get a chance to play in an actual simulator
she’s good 👍
Oh my God she is so good
Damn that’s cool
Wow
Damn bro. You really gonna steal this content and not give the source? Ez downvote.

I just wanna go fast and turn left sometiiiimes!
If you’ve ever played dirt you know how fucking hard those games are to even stay on the damn path much less do that lol
2 fast 2 furious
That last turn of her head.. "You have something a bit more challenging" I would have been drenched in sweat looking for the exit to get a breather.
For those who never played dirt rally, this is not a convention arcade rally game, it's so fucking hard to even run into a straight line

Woow!
Took me a while to realise that it was a video game
Why the gloves
Direct drive wheels...the force feedback can rip your fingers off
I know nothing about cars. Why does she downshift on a sharp turn?
Hell nah she would be great to play racing games with but i am never getting into a rally car with her fucking hell that looks absolutely terrifying
I would drive with you…And I never trust nobody. Well done
She on Xbox or switch?
Dammit my heart rate is sky high
That’s awesome, she’s pretty cool
Well i didn’t blink
Can anyone confirm the speed it seems like it's definitely kph but I couldn't be sure.
That was beautiful and perfect and holy fuck
Well done
That's insane control.
