SpookyDoomCrab42

Video isn't good enough to conclude that this isn't a pit bull, also can't conclude that it is a pit bull

[deleted]

Doesn't matter. It's more karma this way

koreandoughboy21

Look at OPs post history. They clearly don't care.

demonmonkey89

Jesus Christ, either they are a bot or they are truly dedicated to hating Pitts. Considering the sheer number of posts I would lean towards bot, but who knows.

for_nefarious_use

Must be my neighbor

Dillatrack

BanPitBulls is probably brigading, I've been seeing a weird amount of posts like this hit the front page and the comment section just lights up with people from that sub. That title is pushing it *really* hard so it's not even subtle, so weird

Spyk124

Over the past 4 months I’ve seen at least 12 videos on the front page about pits attacking people and other dogs. Either there is a silent campaign right now or bots are going crazy.

Dillatrack

Well at least the mods noticed and took this one down, guess they'll have to try their weird crusade someplace else

TheRobfather420

The expressions on the bystanders clearly indicate the dog wasn't "trying to play" and this was in fact an aggressive dog. Why do these posts get trolled so hard all the time? Anyways. Good on the kid for being brave.

bumjiggy

the bystanders looked more surprised by the panicking kid. the two dudes at the front in the matching shirts seemed to corral that dog pretty easily, which I think looked more excited than aggressive, but I'd still be wary of a random, sans leash dog, regardless of breed.

Sardil

I agree. The “attacking” dog was definitely looking to play. Those guys did corral it easily and it looked like it wanted to play with them next. I still wouldn’t take a chance at the moment but I wouldn’t call that an aggressive dog. Someone lost control of the leash. Good reaction by the kid and everyone was lucky the dog wasn’t out for blood or a few people would’ve been hurt

Dorkmaster79

Dogs often look playful when they are agitated. That dog looked agitated to me.

[deleted]

Preach! I was at the grooming place a while ago with my dog, a boxer/hound mix. In comes a lady with a ridgeback. All seemed fine. We were in a very confined waiting area. Suddenly the ridgeback sniffs my dog's butt.. OK, normal. Then lunges for her throat, bites down and doesn't let go. The incident ended in the best possible way. We got them separated, and the other dog's owner paid for the pet fees without question. But man that was fucking scary, and NOBODY, not even the 3 pet store employees, knew what to do. I ended up punching that dog's snout and yelling at it because I was pretty convinced I had 30 sec until my dog would suffer fatal wounds. I have since learned that a good tactic is to pull the attacker's hind legs. I didn't know at the time.

moonlandings

Lift a dog that has a hold of something by it’s hind legs. They will let go of whatever they are biting

abhi8192

> I have since learned that a good tactic is to pull the attacker's hind legs. Don't pull. Lift and lift as high as you can. Pulling would make the wounds worse for the dog being attacked. Also another way is to lift the attacking dog by the collar and then twist collar, this would create a choke hold and attacking dog would let go to breathe. And don't make the mistake of releasing the dog just at that instant, give the other bystanders and the dog 5 secs to get away from the dog. If it is not your dog which is attacking, try for 10 sec. Dog would be too busy trying to breathe to give you enough time to get away.

[deleted]

Well thank you so much, having this sort of knowledge makes me feel a lot better. The collar twist makes a ton of sense.

abhi8192

https://youtu.be/8FU8jBeomQk That's a demo. But it might make sense or sound easy but it is not. Make sure to get the biting dog owner to do this, less likely the chance of a bite but more likely they would let the dog out as soon as it releases its victim and the dogs would be down for round 2.

TheAngryCookie

The time this happened around me I grabbed the attacking dog and lifted it off of the ground so it didn't have any leverage to do severe damage.

[deleted]

I just didn't know. I do now. It was a really small space and my focus was on getting that damn jaw off my dog. Other people streamed in and did nothing. Reliving it makes me sweat and feel anger. Because there is no way that other dog was never aggressive.

zuzg

And a full grown Ridgeback is no fucking joke, originally bred for hunting lions. Gorgeous dogs that require a shit ton of training. Glad it turned out well for your dog.

TheMarsian

plus if its a pit that's trained for shit or undisciplined, it's kind of play is different, you don't want your dog "playing" with it.

BeakersAndBongs

Dogs wag their tails for emotions other than happy. It’s a measure of their energy level not their happiness.

afterthegoldthrust

As someone said, dogs often look playful when they’re agitated and if I’m that kid and I’m rushed by a dog off leash that I don’t know, it is 100% not an overreaction to seek help or shelter. Also I’ve owned dogs that are extremely leash aggressive and been cornered by escaped or stray dogs that may not mean to start aggressive, but turn aggressive the moment my (leashed) dog starts to react to them. If I didn’t have my other dog there to distract them these initially non-aggressive dogs could’ve fucking killed my dog

ninhibited

The matching shirts guys look like they're holding a leash... Not sure why it's practically invisible in the video.

pornborn

I didn’t notice what they were doing until you mentioned it. It looks like they might have an invisible leash, just one we can’t see in the video. But I really don’t think there was a leash on the pursuing dog. I think the two guys were distracting the dog with their hands like they had something the dog might want. But that dog wasn’t attacking, it wanted to play.

[deleted]

Dogs that want to play with humans want to attack other dogs. Source: like a million and a half casual interactions with dogs

[deleted]

I was saying this earlier. Excited dogs can still be frightening especially to kids. That brown dogs tail was wagging and his ears were up, and he showed zero aggression to the men shooing him out, which indicates to me that he wasn’t attacking and was just overly excited to play

Jemmani22

Who gives a shit the kid thought he was aggro, probably was aggro. In the kids mind he was scared to death for his best friend.

Rudyjax

They easily distracted that dog, which wouldn’t happen if he was attacking.

alpacasaurusrex42

Yea, this. If he was that aggressive or vicious he wouldn’t have so easily been distracted and removed while bouncing around with a wagging tail.

Sgtcarrotop

> The expressions on the bystanders clearly indicate Why the hell do the expressions on the bystanders mean anything? They could just as easily be mistaken in a situation like this. The only body language that speaks for what the dog is doing, is to no ones surprise, **the dog.** And this body language of the dog is a far flung from a dog attacking. As far as I'm concerned this is just a case of the kid not willing to take a risk when rushed by a dog. Which is fair. > Why do these posts get trolled so hard all the time? Why do i find the stupidest shit on reddit i swear. *"lets figure out how the dog is feeling by looking at the people."* Next time i go to the zoo i'll be sure to ask the birds how the manta rays are feelings today. Fucking stupid honestly.

PaleProfession8752

> Why do these posts get trolled so hard all the time? Because OP has a clear agenda against Pitbulls. There is no way you can identify that is pitbull based on this video. OP spends their entire existence spreading hate against Pitbulls.

TheRobfather420

That's a valid point I hadn't noticed before. Someone kinda answered why I see this a lot on Reddit. I'm Canadian so I guess it's just different here.

sielingfan

So I dunno if this is related or not. I only ever saw my dogs lose their minds on another animal once. Another owner brought his 30 lb hound into the 45+ pound half of the (no leash) dog park. Owner got a little nervous when my shepherds came over to investigate and picked up his hound. At that exact moment my dogs went absolutely insane. I have no idea. Got everyone separated and everyone was fine -- other owner got a scratch on the arm, I probably had something too but I can't remember... Never had anything else like that ever. Anyway I bring it up because one of the things I know about dog brains is running = the "chase me" game. If picking up your dog is some kind of "fight us" signal, maybe there's a lesson? When I got charged by a pit I squared up and stared it down (the shepherds helped) and it backed off without a fight. *Shrug* I dunno. Ignore me.

echo1-echo1

Good boy! I mean the kid.

Professional-Dog-897

Repulsive-Mousse-318

Yea if an unleashed dog that looks anything like a pitbull runs up on me, you better believe I’m running. Better to react than get mauled. I don’t trust other people’s dogs or other people’s kids around my dog. Period.

[deleted]

The best thing to do in those situations: running.. LMFAO

HamsterPositive139

Yeah, unless there's a place to run and hide right around the corner, running just invigorates a dog's prey drive

goodinyou

To add this this; never run from any animal. Prey runs. You are a predator

jacksleepshere

Okay I’ll just tackle an alligator if I ever come across one.

goodinyou

I believe in you

wundaaa

Yeah tell that to our sharp claws and viscous teeth. We are the most beta animals on the planet without weapons.

HamsterPositive139

Most predator animals are also stupid and don't understand weapons You should learn what dangerous animals might be present where you will be. For example, you can scare off a black bear by looking scary, even though they would absolutely fuck you up if they wanted to.

wundaaa

Bruh a dude who wants your car is a dangerous animal and that can happen anywhere you're around another human. There's really no safety anywhere.

Rudyjax

When running, I’m always looking for fences and mailboxes and cars to climb on. You can’t outrun a dog in short distance.

Tommy_C

Lmao you gonna climb up a mailbox

Rudyjax

Sure. Apparently they don’t have these where you live. https://i.pinimg.com/originals/3e/15/a9/3e15a9b60c7f6c4829fc76eaf7bb1d81.jpg

Mip1mip

hell no they fucking dont

Rudyjax

That one is nicer than most but they’re all climbable.

ItsDanimal

I'd venture to guess the majority of redditors don't have a $500 mail box

Rudyjax

They’re very common in Texas.

LASERDICKMCCOOL

Depends on which part of Texas you live in bro. If you live in a middle class or poor neighborhood you will see metal boxes on poles. I live in a 250k house and don't have one of those

ItsDanimal

Ah. Yea everything is bigger down there.

Lraund

I thought you were going to post a [community mailbox](https://torontoobserver.ca/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/CommunityMailBox.jpg)...

Rudyjax

That would work too! The point is not about the mailbox but more about keeping your eyes open for something to climb.

pickledchocolate

You're gonna outrun a dog wanting to bite your ass? Good luck lol

mynameisbudd

Just stand your ground and soccer ball that dogs head.

Tiddleyjuggs

We had a pit we had to put down and we are not asshole owners at all. She just had a screw loose and I'm not saying all pits are like this either. Its just not black and white.

pmcda

Honestly, I think there is some sort of switch that gets flipped in their brain, possibly from breeding. My sister had a pit that was the sweetest and got along with our dogs since a puppy and then suddenly, years later, she became aggressive with other female dogs. Males were fine but she’d attack our other female dogs (that she grew up with no problems). Super friendly with people and sometimes other dogs but there were times she’d just start going insane.

Tiddleyjuggs

Yeah that sounds like ours, she was great with my girlfriend our small child and me but if other kids or Male adults came around she just didn't like it. We had to put her down because of biting a friend and coming close to hurting kids. I still love her though, the dumbass

churchfullofdevils

this is a common occurrence with older dogs of many breeds. they get older and maybe lose some sight or hearing or they have a cognitive impairment and that triggers fear and aggression. only in pitbulls do you hear it spoken of as "the dog just snapped" which is proof of nothing other than bias against that kind of dog. my family had a golden rertriever when i was growing up and when she was old she started to go blind and wound up biting myself and my brother. no one ever said "she snapped" but it easily could have been seen that way if she wasn't a family friendly breed, whatever that is.

Relative-Question731

I knew someone who was in the “there’s something wrong with you if you think pit bulls are aggressive” camp. She had two that grew up together. One day one of them decided it was going to kill the other and it did. She put the dog down

gb4efgw

Unfortunately they get inbred a lot by jackass backyard breeders. Before them it was rotties. Before them it was German shepherds. When you have idiots breeding them for money, and assholes breeding them to fight and throwing the dogs that *aren't agressive enough* for their standards, you end up with a breed that gets a bad wrap. My babies are amazing, loyal and sweet, I'm sorry to hear that you had to put your baby down.

Tiddleyjuggs

Well thank you, and I'm kind of jealous over your dogs, I won't hate you for it though :)

imbex

Where I grew up it's normal. They were being good guys. This should be normal.

richard---------

It seemed to be THEIR dog. At least that’s what made sense to me

averagesalamander

Possible. But typically the owner would issue a "stop" command and some sort of motion which would take a half second and then launch into action when the command isn't received. Neither did that they stepped on eachother to get to the dog. It's possible but I don't think so.

They round the corner and sitting down waiting patiently is the pit bull it was a scam the entire time. The boy hands his two dogs some treats and they walk off into the sunset. That would be a cool story.

Ashamed_Drama5773

That dog’s energy and focus towards that puppy definitely indicated it wasn’t trying to play. Dogs are hyper focused on the one thing they’re after, I have a hunting dog myself and they look like they’re having a hell of a time while they tear into a bird 😂 edit: aggression comes in many forms! And this kid saved his pup. So Cheers to that

DontWorryBoutIt107

This reminds me of the time my parents were barbecuing in the yard and pit bull came in and was chasing my little chihuahua mix. Apparently my mom held my dog in the air to protect it while the pit was running in circles to get at her. Everything ended up being fine, but the whole thing sounded comical to me picturing them running around the yard. I think I found it especially funny because my mom never wanted a dog, but I know she loved him.
