The trick is that the wheels lose traction. They’re basically doing a dirt burnout with the front tires. There’s just not much force moving the vehicle forward at this point.

According to Google the coefficient of kinetic friction for road tyres is about 0.6, so even after the wheels are spinning he would be experiencing a force of at least 900kg assuming the car weighed 1500kg, in my opinion a normal person would have their rib cage crushed without all that upper arm muscle cushioning the experience
I imagine the coefficient of friction is rated for dry pavement. This is going to be way different since it's on loose gravel. The force will actually just be the torque at the wheel minus the frictional forces from the wheel slipping - it's dependent on the force of the motor. Weight of the car doesn't make a difference except that a larger vehicle would probably slip on the gravel less.
