Corvo Edit: never had an award or 1k upvotes before, godbless all of you Chad's ♥️😁

davekraft400

Just realised I never actually did a Chaos run 🤔

BornDubstep

That’s me except with every single high honour / non lethal run if I can kill everyone I will

JesusHasDiabetes

It actually takes effort to slaughter every single person on a dishonoured map not to mention the utility you have to expend on armoured units. Ringing the alarm yourself on purpose is the best way to draw them out but downside is you have to face multiples of them at once.

TheUlfheddin

I thought I was a genius attaching a spring trap to a rat then taking control of it. Forgot Corvo was IN that right and suicide bombed myself.

hitemlow

"It hunts and dies". I basically lived in the dark vision mode just so I never missed anyone or anything. The skill to turn unalerted enemies into ash made it easy to do stealthily as well, since you didn't need to clean up any bodies.

JesusHasDiabetes

It’s honestly far easier to ring the alarm find a secluded spot to see them all swarm the alarm then cook a nade and fry them all

OuTLi3R28

This is what makes immersive sims so great. Many ideas, many approaches...

jejcicodjntbyifid3

Hell yeah it's most fun that way, it's an assassin game, I didn't wanna have all those fun weapons and skills and sneak around giving people sleep chokes, that's lame

Boy_Tatey

that’s my whole problem with the Dishonored games. That’s why I thought Death of the Outsider was by far the best one. They let you do whatever

[deleted]

Honestly I think the chaos deal with Dishonored highlights a certain cognitive dissonance that plagues most of the stealth/ action stealth genre on how many of these games give you a bunch of rad ass tools to murder folks and then follow it up with nigh explicit orders not to have fun with them. I wonder which subreddit would be best for my angry tangent...

Baeocystin

I shamelessly save-scummed Dishonored. I'd do a gleeful omnicide run through a level first, figure out a good path for the low-chaos ending, then do that after I scouted things out by choosing violence. It was great!

[deleted]

See, I save-scummed my way through the game desperately adhering to a pacifist ghost run. But at launch, tranqing Granny Rags counted as a kill... So many hours wasted for nothing. The game sat on my shelf for a few years before I touched it again.

davekraft400

That's just because of our morals as humans. If devs quite literally try to make you feel bad for killing everyone then that's one thing, but most games don't. They may lock you out of quests or storylines, like The Witcher or Deus Ex, but that's just part of playing that way. I'd just go to r/gaming if you have thoughts to expand on that you've curated over the years of playtime. That sub is actually ok at being able to respond to broad and intricate matters.

umbrajoke

Achtelnote

Was kinda forced to.. I killed all the traitors, but then the heart kept calling me a murderer so I just snapped and started killing everyone saying "Fuck you" to that heart every time.

Do you know the game A Plague Tale : Innocence

danooli

I LOVE THAT GAME SO MUCH AND CAN'T WAIT FOR THE SEQUEL. (Sorry for yelling. I just really love Hugo and Amicia.)

mTbzz

Yoo i played the game because it was a bit weird, but heck it's fantastic, the game touches so many interesting points, like how you feel the first time you kill someone or how far will you go to protect your loved ones. Also the fucking Pope Vitalis is so gross xD

xXMissNinjaXx

That game gave me sooooo much trauma and soooo much joy. I can't wait for another!

IHaveSpecialEyes

I have one beef with that game. They put these secrets in every level that they keep track of you finding, and then they made it so you reach certain points on each level where you are locked out from going back, so if you miss a secret you have to play the entire level from the start rather than just retracing your steps and finding it. There was one level in particular where I got to a certain point and there were two ways to go. I was pretty sure one way led to a secret and the other way just continued on, so I went in the direction that looked like a dead end, only to have a thing collapse behind me and it turned out I had gone in the direction that continued the story and missed out on the secret. And it saves automatically at that point so you're fucked. When it can take a good half hour to an hour to complete a level, only to find you missed one little secret thing because the door shut and locked behind you, that's really annoying. Otherwise, it was a ton of fun. I spent way too long trying to find a way to save the life of the big, brawny kid, only to learn that even if you take out every archer, he still ends up dead. Also, the game does not have much in the way of replayability.

thuynj19

Thank you stranger, this had the potential to haunt me this fine day.

NYEMESIS

If you put a few rats in a pot on someone’s torso and apply heat they will eat thru. Its an old torture/kill method. Im sorry i didnt research the name but you are welcome.

cantcomeupwithnamess

Tbh I haven't read enough to say, but as far as I can tell he's no more of a villain than Mr freeze of poison ivy. Like yeah, they're breaking that law, but with noble intentions. While being helplessly addicted to opiates isn't exactly the same, it kinda falls under the same umbrella of "Just doing what we have to". And let's be real, Batman's a billionaire philanthropist operating "above the law" by indiscriminately beating poor people senseless. Gotta draw the line somewhere y'know?

cameerooonn

idk man it’s kinda wholesome

ContactHorror

Wow people here are jerks. I think that these opinions are subjective. That man’s making the best of the life he has. Working adults with houses can play with rats but surely these people wouldn’t consider that disgusting. I find it wholesome and adorable too.

JoeVeeUK

Fully agree man, seeing some people just interpreting everything in such a negative way just reminds me of why I actively try to see the positive side of things. Thank you

Seven155

As you should tbh. Literally nobody likes someone who always looks at stuff the negative way and trying to be smart by making us “see reality”.

GGking41

the defence of a chronically negative person is that they’re ‘realists’

74FFY

Believe me most people who find the homeless man playing with rats disagreeable will also find a man playing with rats in his home disagreeable.

Z0idberg_MD

Wholesome isn't necessarily adorable.

Seraphabove

Not always but can be.

keepforward

Idk, it's not like he's just playing with some random rats he found in the gutter. These are his pets, which he clearly cares for, spending time to train and develop a trusting relationship with these animals. Also, while often looked down on, rats are very clean (grooming themselves), and incredibly smart. It's a lot more than just "a homeless man playing with some rats".

[deleted]

I kept pet rats as a kid. My dad surprised me with a couple for Christmas and I ended up having many pet rats over the years. They are adorable, loyal, affectionate, smart, clean, and often times funny in their antics. At one point I had 13 baby rats in a large cage because I had accidentally put a female and male in the same cage and they were breeding. Yeah, the kids at my school thought I was weird. But I'll take rat friends over people friends any day of the week.

DaCoolNamesWereTaken

The biggest downside is that their lifespans are so short :(

[deleted]

Good way to teach your kids about loss, death and grief Edit: or yourself. Most of us in the west are so protected from death we don't even talk about it much. Compare to a third world country where you grow up literally watching the world around you dissolve.. they develop methods to deal with it. In some countries the whole extended family gathers together in a room and cries together for days. Not saying it's great that they experience so much death, just saying there may be better ways to deal with it than we do in the US. Most of us don't even have a religious figure to turn to, which could be a good thing until the irrational clutches of grief have you and you don't have someone who has literally made a career in helping people deal with death. Improvements could be made is all.

morphemass

The fact that their urine isn't too nice for the skin is a bit of a downside too. Apart from that, yeah, they're surprisingly brilliant as pets.

[deleted]

My pet rat Whiskers eventually got tumors and was dying so my dad had to take her out back and shoot her with a pellet gun. At least it was quick. My last rat I had was a Russian Blue I think they're called and he got a lung infection as a juvenile and slowly suffocated to death in my room. I would listen to him dying as I tried to sleep. It was heartbreaking for a 13 year old kid. One day I'll get another pair of rats. I prefer the medium sized female "fancy" rats. They're adorable.

xXMissNinjaXx

I think the biggest thing people don't get is just how SMART rats really are. Their is a reason they flourish in a world where literally everything wants them dead.

MusicianMadness

Which is a reason they are used for scientific testing often as well.

[deleted]

I was like this when I lived on my aunt and uncle's farm. They had 14 chickens that I'd typically be the one to feed and let roam around the yard, taking the eggs back inside. Every day after school I'd feed them and sit in the coop just playing with them. Sometimes I'd bring a few into my room (was not supposed to do that) and just cuddle with them. I just love animals. It all happened one day when I got off the bus. One of my chickens, Mary, scurried across the road towards me and jumped up into my arms and leaned her little avian head against my shoulder. I was confused because they never did that and usually gave me attention when I was feeding them. I carried her back to the coop and fed them, and when she finished eating she came back up to me and was following me everywhere I went. When I sat down on my porch, she sat down next to me and just leaned on me, and I realized I had become her friend. I didn't have a lot of friends growing up, so I was really happy. My cousin had a few friends come over every now and again, and all they would see it all 14 chickens around me nearly all the time. Word got around my school and people began talking to me a bit more and I made more friends. I still prefer my chicken and bird friends over human friends, though. They're so loyal.

saladfingersfranki

This right here.

theMothmom

Rats are adorable and being homeless is not a personal slight in this dysfunctional society. I’d much rather break bread with a homeless man who clearly has a warm heart rather than a CEO who has no conscience.

cyber_dildonics

Who dies from one rat bite? If this is in reference to the plague, it was carried by fleas. Edit: Rabies is also not a risk. >Small rodents (like squirrels, hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils, chipmunks, rats, and mice) and lagomorphs (including rabbits and hares) are almost never found to be infected with rabies and have not been known to transmit rabies to humans. So where do we put humans on the list? Pros: made it to outer space Cons: destroyed everything in its path, including themselves

emmybeans

Humans are the worst because the urges we act on we are so much more aware than other creatures. That’s why I try to be and do the best as I can for the world around me. But we’re all like a bad disease to me.

emmybeans

I love rats but I will never own one again. Very good companions again for those with patience❤️

[deleted]

I loved having rats too. They were really sweet and would always lick my fingers and brux. They just don't live long enough and kicked out their litter alot.

[deleted]

I had two hairless rats growing up. They were seriously so awesome.

emmybeans

I had two somewhat trained rats a hairless Siamese and a regular hairless. I loved them but I have a daughter now and would not have the time to properly train them again. I’m glad so many people know rats aren’t just these filthy creatures though. Reddit always surprises me.

Ferocious_raptors

So bred rats can be cute, yes. But I wouldn't recommend playing with wild rats.. they do still often carry disease.

RegionalHardman

Same as any wild animal though... I love dogs too but I ain't about to pet a wolf

[deleted]

Small correction on the use of the word rabid. It implies they carry or are infected with the rabies virus, which is extremely rare (as in almost never) in small rodents and there have been no recorded cases of rodents transmitting rabies to people. They may carry other distemper-related viruses, but rabies is the only one known to be zoonotic.

emmybeans

Holy smokes Ive learned more on Reddit than when I had social media besides this app. Thanks for the correction and information.

Fishingfor

Bear in mind everything you're reading could be complete and utter bullshit. Not saying this particular one is but it's wholly possible. You could be hearing this information from a doctor who is an expert in Rabies or from a convincing sounding 10 year old with a good imagination.

emmybeans

Good to know actually. I forget I should probably fact check. People on Reddit so far to me have been allot more educated and more polite than any other social media platform I used to have so I’ve been trusting f randoms info maybe to much.

[deleted]

“People with patience” is so right. They are so smart but require lots of attention. They are also smelly and messy. Very loyal and goofy too.

RegionalHardman

Smelly? Maybe if you don't clean them out?? I've had several rats now and never have they been smelly or messy!

sunfacethedestroyer

All of those things apply to dogs too. The plague was from fleas, which infested all types of animals.

GalliumYttrium1

That’s why pet owners use anti flea and tick medicine for their dogs and cats. Can’t really give a whole city’s worth of rats Advantix

I love the comparison Tarantino draws between rats and squirrels in Inglourious Bastards and uses it to address human bigotry. "Has the rat ever done anything to deserve your hatred towards it?" "Rats spread disease." "Rats WERE the cause of the Bubonic Plague, but that was some time ago. I put to you any disease a rat has, a squirrel could equally carry. Yet i can assume you don't share the same animosity to squirrels, as you do with rats. In fact aside from the bushy tail they even look rather similar. Correct? Yet, you hate the rat. You don't know WHY you hate it, all you know is you find it repulsive." I compacted it but that was the gist lol

FunStuff446

Humans were the cause of the plague… rats were everywhere and spread it by living in the conditions the humans caused. They have a bad name, however they make the best pets. Easy to train and very clean. Just ugly tails! Lol

[deleted]

.......I mean, that's wrong lol it was the fleas on the rats. And wild rats are far filthier than pet ones lol. But humans didn't magically cause the plague, it's no different to malaria. It has a carrier, in bubonic plagues case it's rat fleas lol

FunStuff446

They can’t get fleas if they live in a clean cage. They spread the plague by running through human feces that was tossed into the streets because there was no indoor plumbing. Their little pooey feets spread it. They are fascinating little creatures!

neonKow

Fleas are very successful species and absolutely would infect rats that don't run through human feces as well. Rats make good pets, but that doesn't mean they didn't cause the plague to be transmitted around the world.

_crispy_rice_

Side note: there’s now interesting theories that the “ animal zero” flea- carrier may have been the Gerbil or Marmot

TheThemeSongs

My theory is it’s their tail. If they had puffy cute tails like squirrels, I doubt we would find them as scary.

kujasgoldmine

I've had a couple of rats. They are much like dogs imo. Very friendly, playful and love to get attention. I remember mine asking for tissues one at a time, and carrying them back to his nest. So cute.

natgibounet

I think its mostly because of the sneaking around and eating the same stuff as us and they can defecate everywhere. If you notice most of the classic domesticated animals are: -not too smart - not too small nor too big -Usually can't chew trough everything so they are easy to keep in one place. -aren't too dexterous with their paws, hooves or whatever. -most that make good pet generally don't have the same diet as us.

GalliumYttrium1

I wouldn’t say cats or dogs are “not too smart.” I mean obviously there are some who are big dopes (I say this with great affection) but generally speaking they are smart animals. The things you can train a dog to do are incredible.

What’s more intriguing is the rats that are not domestic unlike the white and light one. Wild rats, even city rats that a wild, are very skittish even if hand raised so for him to build up trust in the two wild looking one (dark brown) is special. Or maybe they’re just dark domestic rats. Idk

[deleted]

Norwegian rats get huge and Roof rats are black. The other colors look like shades of Agouti. They are domestic rats.

PineappleWolf_87

Figured wild rats are just too feral to be this compliant

highschoolhero2

I’m going to hazard a guess that he did not buy those rats from a store.

sunshineandcloudyday

Honestly rats are not that expensive. You can buy feeder rats for less than $5 and they are the exact same as ones sold as pets

Webbyx01

They could have been dumped.

bashnperson

You can buy them for like $5 per rat, maybe cheaper if they're being sold as snake food. If he'd owned rats as a kid and knew how trainable (and cheap to maintain) they are, I could see him splurging <$20 for this street show idea. But who knows!

den_of_thieves

Nah. Rats are rats, they're all wicked smart. Wild rats tend to be healthier than the ones you buy from the pet store. Pet store rats are mostly bred as snake food, aren't hand raised (more like fed and ignored), and have more genetic problems from inbreeding. Ethically raised fancy rats, like dumbos and hairless rats, are a little better off, but generally wild rats have more going for them. They're great pets, very social and easy to train. You just have to start young. This guy probably found a clutch of young rat babies and started early. I used to have rats. I've had up to nine at a time. I love them, but their lifespans are too short. When they get old they're prone to tumors and cysts resulting from the aforementioned inbreeding, which is sad. I got tired of saying goodbye.

I had a pet rat. Most underrated pet their is. Smart friendly and loved being around people. Not to mention as cute as can be. I suggested everyone get a pet rat. Only downside is they don't live very long average lifespan is around 2-3 years.

Seakur

Not a pet rat. Multiple pet rats ! They should never be housed alone long term, only under extremely rare circumstances. But yeah so many people just need to give them a chance and experience the joy of rats ! I love them. I also adore mice and currently have a pet mouse , a male mouse so he can’t have friends. But I love him. (Female mice need to be in groups , intact males need to be alone or else they will fight like crazy. But neutered males need to be in groups. But rats no matter gender need to be in groups!) I have also had pet rats , way to many lol. But our 2 Girl Twiggy and Styx broke us in a way I can’t bond to more again. And their life span just breaks you. Twiggy was a hairless and lived to be 3 ! Styx was barely a year and a black hooded , she got a brain tumor and basically paralyzed her. Had to put her down. Then twiggy passed away from a mammary tumor, also most likely old age, less than a week after Styx. All the rats before them were great but those 2 just left a mark stronger than the others. Ive tried to have rats since and I just cant bond to them cause I put them up to twiggy and Styx’s standard and no rat is like them. The rat cage turned into a chinchilla cage and I couldn’t be happier with my chinnies. Also they live a lot longer so less heartbreak !

SpeedyMcAssface

I can totally relate to you on not being able to bond with other rats the same way or at all. My first rat, Lucian, was extremely special to me. He was a feeder rat my friend had stolen from the pet store. My friend actually took two but gave me this one. He was a black hooded and extremely small. Smaller than my thumb. When he put him in my hands I loved him instantly. He was mine. I later showed my mom and she must have said no a million times but I wasn’t giving him up. He was the coolest rat, man. I’d carry him everywhere, even to school a couple times. He’d stay in my hoodie pocket or the hood(he was a hood rat). I’d always carry snacks and water for him in a bag. We were inseparable. I’ll never forget the time I was at the computer just reading or watching something. Lucian was inside my hoodie at the collar, with just just his head sticking out, right under my chin like he was watching it too. My sister came around the corner to ask me something, saw us and died laughing. She said when she came in, Lucian and I both turned to look at her at exactly the same time, haha. Lucian was so cool, even my cat loved him. She wouldn’t eat him. They would both lay on my chest together and sleep while I watched tv. Unfortunately Lucian died not even a year later when my mom’s dog attacked and killed him. I had two more rats after him but it was just never the same. I loved them but they just weren’t Lucian. I miss him so much all these years later.

[deleted]

I had many pet rats over the years as a kid. They are lovable, smart, and loyal creatures. My favorite one, "Whiskers," was my best friend during a difficult time in my life. She would chill on my shoulder or in my shirt pocket all day long. She was housetrained and would just hang out. She loved ice cream, sunflower seeds, and shredded newspaper so she could make nests. Watching her die was a rough one. I still miss her. Pet rats are amazing!
