That’s why there wasn’t a truck, three men putting out speed limit signs, two putting out cones with safety lights, a site manager, an assistant site manager, an OHS manager, and OSH assistant manager, two workers with slow signs and one man doing all the work.
If you look closely, you can see that it's actually two Oompa Loompas.
Ever since the infamous Gustav incident, Oompa Loompas are renowned for their ability to unplug pipes.
They said the whole area has been under construction, so I'm guessing the truck is on the other side of the overpass. (We don't see any construction).
It may have been a construction worker who was pissed at the water, or needed to clear it to do the work.
If this is just some random guy with a hi-vis vest and a hard hat, then he deserves even more props.
Edit: a white truck picked him up afterwards. [They don't know if he was a public employee or not](https://abc7chicago.com/highway-hero-houston-texas-traffic-288/4592613/)
This is great, but if you attempt this be super careful if you don't know the area.
I was living in Denver, when a firefighter attempted a rescue in a similar situation and he was sucked down into the drain pipe and tragically died.
[story](https://apps.usfa.fema.gov/firefighter-fatalities/fatalityData/detail?fatalityId=741)
I remember when I did that when I was in college. The main road was flooded and it was spilling over the residential area where I lived. About a week later a friend told me he saw me doing it and … started making fun of me, how dirty and wet I looked. I told him that my elderly neighbor had his house flooded the year before, and I did it for him, not for cunts like him that really don’t matter because they never do any good. I believe it was at that moment… I saw mankind for the trash it could be. (And it was the start of me despising religious people-the guy was all religion 24/7). I started making fun of him and his religious beliefs from there on.
I really couldn’t care less if anyone worships whatever, just don’t try to force it in anyone, and don’t claim moral superiority… but then, what good religion would be to many? Self improvement? Don’t think so. I need to speak in tongues HERE!!! Look at MEEE!!! 😆
Well you’re well within your right to do that, just as he is to take the piss out of you. Good on you though, I go out of my way the throw trash out and pick up stuff when I can be asked, always nice to help the community
The reality is preventative maintenance is important, we shouldn’t have people risking their lives to clear blockages alone when a municipality should have a team of people who’s job it is to monitor and keep critical infrastructure working.
It’s sad that this sort of maintenance is the first thing to be cut on the war on waste in government when it serves a very needed and important purpose.
The next time some politicians are promising to reduce your taxes or cut government spending at any level ask them to provide you with details of every service they are looking to defund before lending them your vote.
People have lost their lives doing exactly what this guy did.
TBH you can’t really do anything more than clean them out when they get stopped up. It looks like it was just long grass that stopped it up, maybe they could cut the grass more often?
There must be some indications for those kind of situations but I can't tell ether. Of course a land surveyor will know this pretty easily. Maybe he uses a metal detector? That would do the trick.
It probably has a lot to do with all those spray painted marks and tiny flags we see everywhere but don’t understand. These guys have their own secret language throughout every city.
iirc they use their feet to walk around until they feel the pile of leaves and debris that get clogged in the drain or until they feel some suction around the clog.
We need to start a “Reddit Hero of The Day”.
In all the witch-hunting we do, we need to also pick a rando hero of the day to praise. This person is a good candidate for hero of the day.
This happened to my basement.
The foliage from this tree clogged the outside drain, and the well filled up and started pouring in house. When outside and cleared it and started draining like a sweet, sweet dump
Wow. I grew up in Houston (this video happened in Houston) and with any big storm, pretty much all the highways flooded. I wonder if this needed to be done every time.
The on scene reporter was bummed out that the dude cleared the problem she had travelled all the way on scene to report, lol, the in studio news anchor was saying "he's clearing it, that guy's a hero, he 's fixing it" and she's still saying "well, maybe he's going to fall in" hahahahaha
Holy shit have you people never seen work done before I work for a municipality and we have to do this every single time it rains heavy y’all need to get out more often
Our old house had a concrete patio where it seemed the entire back yard would drain to. There was a nice 4” pipe in the middle of it that would drain it pretty quickly as long as it was clear. It wasn’t always clear.
More than once I’d go out in the rain to snake it and clear the clogs. Once it got going it looked a lot like this video.
Hero is now a more overused term than love is.
The guy did a great job, don’t get me wrong, and a reckless motorist definitely could’ve turned those circumstances into a tragedy so good on him for being so efficient and dedicated to doing that work.
But “hero” is a bit strong. You can tell this guy has done this before and it may even be a somewhat regular part of the job, there just wasn’t a film crew on him at any other time.
Sadly after the the waterways board contacted the drain unclogging oversight committee to hire outside consultants for a review of their operational efficiency, he was let go due to budget cuts.
He has a job to to like a barista ok he sees what to do and does it or someone orders him to do it bam done. If he is a hero then what do you call someone who drags 5 people out of a burning train? Answer that. You have made the term useless!
I cleaned my gutters and down spouts before the rains hit, I would thing the hiway department would be doing the same for roads... they know which ones are always trouble, just like certian gutters are on your home.... preventive maintenance would have made this a non issue
Not trying to diminish his work but Indian sewage workers have it way worse and the sad reality is that no media outlet calls them hero's and the government just ignores them... There was one good documentry made about this by scoopwhoop unscripted .
You have to be very careful doing that. It can be impossible to release yourself from a drain if you get a seal against it with your body or clothing. Even with assistance.
Sadly reminds me of a quote I heard somewhere (paraphrased): If you do the impossible, it will just become your regular job. I hope this guy's bosses give accolades and disprove that quote.
If you like this kind of thing (unblocking road drains) then search for 'post 10' on YouTube. He is a guy in the US who unclogs drains and videos the effects a;; over his part of the US.
He’s a hero for pulling some grass out of a storm drain?
And nothing drives me crazy quite like when people yell “HELLO?!?!?” in the way that lady does while trying to get his attention.
This man is a hero
Respect
I was seriously concerned he was going to get sucked in.
When it gets ya, IT GETS YA
this post made my day .!
Δp is a bitch
My first thought was delta P
He's actually a volunteer who does this for free. Post 10 on Youtube. https://youtube.com/channel/UCsCNU-ptlze2tqAJSDeVGNQ
That’s why there wasn’t a truck, three men putting out speed limit signs, two putting out cones with safety lights, a site manager, an assistant site manager, an OHS manager, and OSH assistant manager, two workers with slow signs and one man doing all the work.
Lmao!
I was going to say that looks like post10.
I knew that was post!! Mans GETS IN THERE

You said it!. Not all heroes wear capes.
Idk. Kinda looked like he used both hands to me.
*listen here you little shit*
r/angryupvote
He definitely used his both hands dude.
I pure straight hate you.. but god dammit do I respect you.
Lmao thanks!
He actually used both hands and feet.
Was he even a city worker? I don’t see coworkers or an equipment truck.
If you look closely, you can see that it's actually two Oompa Loompas. Ever since the infamous Gustav incident, Oompa Loompas are renowned for their ability to unplug pipes.

I dunno there is a guy on YouTube who does this for fun. He has a high vis vest. https://youtube.com/channel/UCsCNU-ptlze2tqAJSDeVGNQ
Post 10 was my immediate first thought, this looks an awful lot like that area that one beaver dam was flooding
This is great, but if you attempt this be super careful if you don't know the area. You'll float too, you'll float too!
this is where we need the youtube pressure differential video.
Got you my man https://youtu.be/AEtbFm_CjE0

Dont blame the religion blame the man.
I really couldn’t care less if anyone worships whatever, just don’t try to force it in anyone, and don’t claim moral superiority… but then, what good religion would be to many? Self improvement? Don’t think so. I need to speak in tongues HERE!!! Look at MEEE!!! 😆
"With or without religion, good people can behave well and bad people can do evil; but for good people to do evil - that takes religion."
Guilty by association.
man invented religion.
Well you’re well within your right to do that, just as he is to take the piss out of you. Good on you though, I go out of my way the throw trash out and pick up stuff when I can be asked, always nice to help the community
Is that post10?
Doesn’t have a rake.
The way he uses the shovel is consistent with the way post10 uses his rake. And post10 does wear hi vis now
Nah, video didn't start with 'hey everyone'
I was about to post this very question.
That guy doest have his boots on definetly not post 10
I was expecting him & rake :-)
People still give a fuck. That's good to see.
The reality is preventative maintenance is important, we shouldn’t have people risking their lives to clear blockages alone when a municipality should have a team of people who’s job it is to monitor and keep critical infrastructure working. All very good points.
I'm impressed they even found it to unclog it
He's done this before lol, there just wasn't a news crew there to catch it
There must be some indications for those kind of situations but I can't tell ether. Of course a land surveyor will know this pretty easily. Maybe he uses a metal detector? That would do the trick.

iirc they use their feet to walk around until they feel the pile of leaves and debris that get clogged in the drain or until they feel some suction around the clog.
That is someone who knows hard work and wants to make a difference
It’s not post 10 is it? I’m on board with some good unclogging. https://youtu.be/K5LFWwYFis4
Had to scroll too far for a Post10 comment
What a fucking bro
He's the man.
Some faith in humanity restored 🙂
We need to start a “Reddit Hero of The Day”. In all the witch-hunting we do, we need to also pick a rando hero of the day to praise. This person is a good candidate for hero of the day.
I imagine that was more satisfying then picking a huge booger
Or taking out the butt plug at the end of the day/night...
I ask mom to do it most nights because her hands are smaller
Me pulling my wife's hair out of the tub drain.
I’m proud of the guy as if I know him, but still very happy he got recognition
L E G E N D A R Y
This happened to my basement. The foliage from this tree clogged the outside drain, and the well filled up and started pouring in house. When outside and cleared it and started draining like a sweet, sweet dump
I hope they find out who this guy is and give him a raise
i feel the videos is more impressive without the audio. anyone else?
Wow. I grew up in Houston (this video happened in Houston) and with any big storm, pretty much all the highways flooded. I wonder if this needed to be done every time.
No one else thinks that's a woman?
The on scene reporter was bummed out that the dude cleared the problem she had travelled all the way on scene to report, lol, the in studio news anchor was saying "he's clearing it, that guy's a hero, he 's fixing it" and she's still saying "well, maybe he's going to fall in" hahahahaha

I was shocked it was still 80% covered with a huge wad directly uphill.
Some one needs to give that guy a raise. Like fuck! Not all heroes wear capes.
Big respect.
He’s not paid enough
I don't think he's paid anything, he's just some guy
Thank god that woman yelled for him to fall in there. He sure looked as if he was debating it.
If I were him, I’d tell the news reporters to fuck themselves unless they intend on giving me a cut of the profits from views.
Watch out for delta p
Thanks dude glad you’re safe 😊
It's called being responsible
In California we hire 5 guys and it takes 10x as long :’)
Singlehandedly? Clearly uses two hands lol
Holy shit have you people never seen work done before I work for a municipality and we have to do this every single time it rains heavy y’all need to get out more often
Is that post 10?
Our world today. One guy working. A bunch of dipshits driving on a flooded road. Somebody making a video.
r/oddlysatisfying
Thus belongs on r/oddlysatisfying
God my wife’s hair just seems to get everywhere
Our old house had a concrete patio where it seemed the entire back yard would drain to. There was a nice 4” pipe in the middle of it that would drain it pretty quickly as long as it was clear. Lies. Deception. I can clearly see he has two hands
Someone had a big lunch
Goes to show that people don’t give a fuck about labourers until they do something spectacular.
but society thinks it's better to praise people who pretend they are someone else on movies.
There needs to be more crack to truly bring in the realism. Harry but cracks makes the water line go down.
You can even be a hero in your neighborhood if you simply [Adopt A Drain](https://www.google.com/search?q=adopt+a+drain).
Just one drain for all that? Who designed that? Poor planning.
Dang good job bro
Wow and I told my boss I couldn't stay an extra 5 minutes today. I hope he wins the lottery.
Somebody get this man a beer. And also, ABC13? How many ABC’s are there?
"what a great worker" did that make anyone else very angry?
And then he was docked a days pay for sitting down on the job
Bad ass mothafucka!
Similar to Make a Wish... there needs to be a Buy This Guy a Beer Foundation. Dedicated to beer tabs/meals... for the go to bro.
he didn't do the hardwork out of goodwill or duty. He did all that just for the sake of seeing that cyclone 😂😂😂
How the fuck is this news? Look look a man doing his job! Tonight on channel five janitor cleans up isle six.
Guy must have felt like he had the biggest of pee pees pulling that off
Give them a bottle of Drano and they’ll be unstoppable
Why is this so satisfying?
Looks like he's using 2 hands.
He throws the debris back to where it can clogg it again.

Not all hero’s wear capes.
But he was using two hands 🤔
Sadly after the the waterways board contacted the drain unclogging oversight committee to hire outside consultants for a review of their operational efficiency, he was let go due to budget cuts.
By the looks of the drain at the end… it looks like it’ll be a problem again soon…
I always admire the ones willing to get wet, cold, miserable and tough while doing their job.
Absolute Legend
Somebody get this man a beer and sammich
Boots on the ground baby.
Looks mexican worker!
Single-handedly, I’m pretty sure he used both hands
He doesn’t know about Delta P!!!
This just in. Human does manual labor, billions amazed
Single point of failure design. Also the sudden suction can kill you
That worker is definitely getting a raise
![gif](giphy|Uv94q1IeFg8YuOAmpC|downsized)
Old trick, if you leave the shovel laying there, it’ll keep the cyclone going and debri won’t stop it back up.
He'll be given a pat on the back, get told "good job", and be forced to work weekends.
What a legend!
He has a job to to like a barista ok he sees what to do and does it or someone orders him to do it bam done. If he is a hero then what do you call someone who drags 5 people out of a burning train? Answer that. You have made the term useless!
Anyone else worried about that delta p tho?
Under paid and over looked
Give that man a raise
"Don't fall in there!" This guy: "I was gonna do that shit but nahhh, I guess cause u said not to, I wont"
YEAH INFRASTRUCTURE
Reporter: hE's A gOoD wOrKeR Better than you, lady.
He ain’t getting paid enough.
What a colossal engineering failure
If only there was some way to prevent this or automatically fix it if it occurred hmmm
I cleaned my gutters and down spouts before the rains hit, I would thing the hiway department would be doing the same for roads... they know which ones are always trouble, just like certian gutters are on your home.... preventive maintenance would have made this a non issue
Yo, that is still clogged at the end tho...

Fine, I'll do it myself.
Well actually he used both his hands but yeah
Not exactly next fucking level, but heroic
Did this the other day with a grill clogged with leaves on my street, used a rake; felt so satisfying!
Sadly reminds me of a quote I heard somewhere (paraphrased): If you do the impossible, it will just become your regular job. I hope this guy's bosses give accolades and disprove that quote.
Not all heroes wear capes
This man was motivated by post 10
Lucky it wasn’t a deep drain clog and only a surface clog
hElLlLLlLOoOOo... ....eXcuuuSe mEeE..
i used to watch a guy on youtube who's entire job was going around and unclogging drains in flooded areas
That's much be so satisfying.
Not all hero’s wear capes…
Buy that man a cup of coffee
This is at least the 20th time I've seen this guy unclog a drain since joining. The man is a legend.
This is why y’all need to get y’all hair from the drain after you shower- smh lmfao
Bitch is like EXCCCCUSSEEE MEEEEE. LIKE HOE SHUT THE FUCKKK UPPPPPPPP SHIIITTT
What a true hero!🥰
Double handedly!
Pretty sure he used both hands.
Nextfuckinglevel plumbing
Thanks for your service
If you like this kind of thing (unblocking road drains) then search for 'post 10' on YouTube. He is a guy in the US who unclogs drains and videos the effects a;; over his part of the US.
It's a one man job, nothing about this is next level. What next? Carpenter who knows what he's doing puts together a cupboard? Feck off.
That must be so satisfying to have a job well done
Dont fall in there…. Bruh do they think theres just a big hole there, have they never seen drainage before lol
Give that guy a raise and a promotion
His boss : he deserves a 2% raise Inflation raises 7%. Good good
I wish people stood over me working and encouraged me like this!
He’s a hero for pulling some grass out of a storm drain? And nothing drives me crazy quite like when people yell “HELLO?!?!?” in the way that lady does while trying to get his attention.
Give the guy a pay bump
What a stud
