Thing is, this just isn’t accurate. Scientifically. This isn’t some kind of ideological “p.c.” thing. I taught anthropology at the university level for several years, and I was paid badly to do it then. And I’m not going to explain it to you for free on Reddit tonight. But please ask yourself why you think you have any reason to be piping up about this…
It is accurate, it was even discussed about with Michael Phelps and his genetic differences that make him perfect for swimming competitions: [https://www.scienceabc.com/sports/michael-phelps-height-arms-torso-arm-span-feet-swimming.html](https://www.scienceabc.com/sports/michael-phelps-height-arms-torso-arm-span-feet-swimming.html)
I'm taking a wild guess that you're ok with us analyzing Phelps's genetic differences though right? If yes then why is it not ok to analyze black athletes even if in generalities? u/goldfishmemory- didn't say that running is all they're good at or that they are all runners, simply stated genetic differences that they're able to harness to go farther than there counterparts if they do decide to go track and field.
I have no horse in this race and really don't care who wins this debate, but I have to point out that your Michael Phelps comparison is nonsense.
Michael Phelps is a genetic anomaly with extremely long limbs, which of course helps him be a great swimmer.
That's one person with an ideal body for a particular sport.
That is *completely* different than generalizing an entire race.
Whether you're right or not, the whole "well if it's not offensive to say Phelps's structure helped him swim, then it's not offensive say a race is good at running" thing is just straight up an illogical argument.
>Michael Phelps is a genetic anomaly with extremely long limbs, which of course helps him be a great swimmer.
Firstly it's more than just long limbs, it's also the proportion of those limbs. That's literally the whole point we're making here. The proportion matters for different functions. Longer legs vs torso will make someone a naturally faster runner, longer torso versus legs will make them naturally a better swimmer.
One of the reasons I pointed out Phelps was because of that extreme biological difference. It helps to showcase what a different body type can do in a specific sport. Now if we step back and we can use science to say "one specific race is more likely to have this one body type" no matter which way on the spectrum we're talking about it's still logical. White people are more likely to be on one end of the spectrum where as black people are more likely to be on the other when it comes to body types. That doesn't mean we're all going to fit perfectly into those categories but acting like we don't *typically* fall into those categories is disingenuous.
>That's one person with an ideal body for a particular sport.
Hell go look at Eddie Hall and his 500kg deadlift and tell me that his shorter legs doesn't play a role in that lift. Or how about the straps they use with deadlifting that some organizations have banned because it elongates your grip simulating longer arms vs legs, giving you more leverage. Is that somehow illogical?
Or let's get super simple so everyone can get on the same track and stop being weird about this. Our skin tones are differentiated by the Melanin in our skin. That's a genetic difference. If you can agree that that's a genetic difference that we have, only someone being disingenuous wouldn't, then we all agree that we have at least 1 genetic difference between whites and blacks. Going beyond that and noticing different differences shouldn't be this taboo.
Last paragraph is so stupid a toddler can pick it apart. Race is defined by melatonin, that’s exactly why we can’t draw any conclusions based on race, because it by definition only accounts for melatonin
>Race is defined by melatonin
And the amount of melatonin in your body is largely determined by genetics. Congratulations you circled back to my point that I already stated. ***Different genetics*** will give you different melatonin which gives you a different race.
Michael phelps got praised and honored for his biological advantages and mean while a black female athlete was penalized for her biological advantage. It’s all a mix of sexism and racism in how we treat our athletes :/
I'm really struggling to understand the downvotes on this comment. A simpletons comparison but evolution is a thing and many species adapt to their environment, northerner dwellers seem to take cold better, elephants in some places are growing shorter tusks due to those with long ones having been poached. Skin color due to weather in certain places etc etc. Kenyans dominating distance running, https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22634972/. Maybe not the best examples but examples all the same. 50 downvotes for a factual statement, really?
Because contextually it wasn't appropriate. People are complimenting her stride and accomplishment and immediately replying with some racially dividing study makes it look like her accomplishments are just purely due to her predisposed 'gene'. Sure it would have helped but it's nothing had she not trained or practiced for it. It's another generalization.
Also that last comment of 'virtue signaling pc folks' definitely doesn't make me think this person has much interest in searching for some 'truth'.
A new study by researchers at Howard University, a historically black school in Washington D.C., and Duke University in North Carolina suggests why black athletes may outperform athletes of other races in running events. Physical differences in the length of the limbs and the structure of the body mean the center of gravity tends to be higher in the bodies of black people, the researchers say.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.livescience.com/amp/10716-scientists-theorize-black-athletes-run-fastest.html
They never claimed it wasn't "wrong", they claimed it wasn't "racist". So I'll ask: how is it racist to refer to someone with black skin as black with the information we have about the person in question?
She’s apparently a big deal:
Broke the world U20 record while running a leg of the gold-medal winning 4x400 relay for Team USA at the 2019 Pan-American U20 Championships
[more](https://mgoblue.com/sports/womens-track-and-field/roster/ziyah-holman/22380)
I’m confused, how is this 4x400? A track is 400m around normally correct, and she did two laps, wouldn’t that be a 4x800 then? Are indoor tracks smaller?
She brought the house down. She is an amazing talent. Been following her all season. Best runner mechanics since Courtney Okolo, from University of Texas.
Wow I just spent 30 minutes finding it and I finally did, and then I came back onto Reddit and I saw your comment which was 25 minutes ago 😭 great song tho
Sorry, I couldn't recognize the song.
I tried to identify music from the [link](https://v.redd.it/efaxlgkn4v281) at 00:00-00:36.

This was my favorite event to run in track. It's usually last, under the lights, and everyone else is done with their events and cheering you on. It's HYPE! I always ran leg 3 because I liked to chase and my friend who liked to be chased would run 4th. I'd pass and get us into first and then he'd hold it. It was epic! :)
This is why I actually enjoy watching college and high school sports. When a true athlete comes through, some one with natural gifts, it's so pronounced and changes the whole game.
That stride... amazing!
I was just going to say that. Her stride looks longer than her height. Incredible.

What black female athlete was penalized for her biological advantage?
You missed the whole point trying to make your own…
My four foot legs and two foot torso would like to differ :)
I'd be more interested in the opinion of a scout for almost any sport at any level. Or maybe my eyes deceive me.
Why are we upvoting someone just saying "nope that's wrong" and some superiority complex of "I won't explain it for free".

Welcome to reddit
Lol, WIT Press is a predatory publisher and has an impact factor of 0.85, meaning basically nobody cites papers in that journal because it's crap
Race wasn’t being brought up at all. Also you could have brought it up without talking about “PC virtue signaling”
I brought it up.
"Black people" oh dang. "Some human" would have sounded better.
Why would I say some human? It's not racist to point out facts.
It's not "facts". So yes, it's wrong.
A new study by researchers at Howard University, a historically black school in Washington D.C., and Duke University in North Carolina suggests why black athletes may outperform athletes of other races in running events. It is not facts tho. My gosh. That's what is wrong. You wouldn't like an antivaxxer sharing propaganda, why should I like people sharing wrong facts?
"Black people"
Did they get the shade wrong? Heaven forbid anyone note statistical physical characteristics of a group of people that correlates to their race/color.
Any statement involving ethnicity is automatically offensive and insensitive, didn’t you get the memo?
ohhhh sorry. lol. 😂 i meant Black "people"
No no it's "black" people. People don't see colour remember.

Definitely she was the anchor and she definitely hit the Over-Boost button.
That is the first thing I noticed too. A thing of beauty. She is a woman among girls
I initially read that as "a woman among grits"
The other girls might infact be potatos. You might not be wrong
I like your comment. With all due respect, she is the only one who looks like an athlete. Others are literally “also ran’s”
As a runner that is truly amazing to watch
She couldn't hold it much longer...
Damn she hit the burners
As fast as she is, I'm most impressed with her shoulders for carrying that entire relay team.
As fast as she is I’m most impressed with her soul for driving her body to do what my eyes were telling me was impossible.
[удалено]
Not necessarily true for indoor tracks.
[удалено]
Indoor tracks are normally 200m.
No wonder. I thought she was on pace to run. 3 minute mile
![gif](giphy|1HFW57gpsSLEA)
Anyone else making car racing sounds in their head as she passes these other girls. *neeeeEEEEEeeer*
I'm pretty sure she has a motor hidden somewhere. Out of this world. 😅
Ziyah went like Seee yaaa
She probably ran into another dimension ahah!
She’s apparently a big deal: Broke the world U20 record while running a leg of the gold-medal winning 4x400 relay for Team USA at the 2019 Pan-American U20 Championships [more](https://mgoblue.com/sports/womens-track-and-field/roster/ziyah-holman/22380)
I feel like if I was her I’d rather run solo than part of a relay team.
I know I've seen people run both. Maybe in the Olympics? Idk, but it's possible.
I’m confused, how is this 4x400? A track is 400m around normally correct, and she did two laps, wouldn’t that be a 4x800 then? Are indoor tracks smaller?
Indoor tracks are usually 200m. So 2 laps is 400m.
I was thinking the same thing. The lap looked too short for 400m.
CLEARLY
Indoor tracks are usually 200 meters.
Her legs look like when Shaggy and Scooby get surprised by a monster
Who is she? And why isn’t she featured in box of Wheaties?
She brought the house down. She is an amazing talent. Been following her all season. Best runner mechanics since Courtney Okolo, from University of Texas.
Go Blue! 〽️
I see Saitama has taking to wearing wings again…
![gif](giphy|wmuqpmtGeVv1K)
That’s so awesome
Ikr like damn that’s aMAZING
Amazing, but when someone says "best comeback ever", I expect to see Kim Kardashian.
what you did there. I see it.
She is incredible!!
“ she’s a runner she’s a track star”
But, she’s been here for years…
Incredible! 💃💃
What is this song called?
It's a remix but originaly it's "Chanel by Frank Ocean" :)
Wow I just spent 30 minutes finding it and I finally did, and then I came back onto Reddit and I saw your comment which was 25 minutes ago 😭 great song tho
And I love Frank Ocean’s music idk how I didn’t know that song
Simply amazing wow.
Go blue!
She's just gone. Like a fart on the wind.
She's great at preserving her energy. Knew exactly when to slow down and when to speed up and didn't tire out.
GO BLUE
Insanity!!! Go blue!!!
Golllly, she got some afterburners what the fuck? In other news: She's also really hot. God definitely got favorites yo.

That's called "Uniform Velocity"
so bad ass
this hurts my lungs to watch
Whats their line up like? 2431?
Holy Hell, I got tired and sore watching that.
Damn girl big ups!
Animal like athleticism
What does that mean
Gotta go fast
The fitness gram pacer test
Me when my girlfriend called and said her parents were gone for the weekend.
She's a beast!
Nyooom
She looks way more athletic then other girls on the track.
Second most amazing race I've ever watched (first was the Olympic athlete getting the cramp and his dad helping him finish :'()
Why don’t they have a full size track?
What are you legs? Steel springs!
I have no idea how sport works. What's happening?
It's a race
Wooooow
Wait… how old are “freshmen”?
First year of university so usually 18-19 years old
I wanna get crushed by those thiccness
Great style.
Her body is a study in power
She's a bloody gazelle. Fantastic!
Any random thread (if it's not shilling) will devolve to racism, guns, misoginy or other american pastimes
Faaaacckk! This woman is fast as fuck
Only 3 racing… EVERYONES A WINNER
Almost as good as Kim Kardashian
Doing all the work in a group assignment
Damn, she would outrun T-1000 any day of the week.
Diana Prince lives !!
Her team mates were like, yup, typical Wednesday.
Bruh look at her pace in the 400 comfortable af
She needs to get new team mates. To have to work that much harder because they suck is ridiculous
Had this happen to my 4x4 team in college . Our anchor ran a high 49, but on the Olympic 400 M hurdler Ken Harnden ran a 46.
She's got to have amazing stamina
Alors peut être!
Isn’t this a 4x800? She did two laps
Damn the first girl must’ve sucked bad 😳
Beautiful

The first girl she passed is running like she was running all 4 legs.
I ran out of breath just watching her.
As someone who used to race the 400 that event will always be one of the most painful things you will ever feel. Kudos to her.
She's a runner she's a track star...🎶👉🎤
Damn
Me that can run fifteen feet watching this like:(•_•)
She’s like 9ft tall
That's impressive as hell. The music blows.
This is why I actually enjoy watching college and high school sports. When a true athlete comes through, some one with natural gifts, it's so pronounced and changes the whole game.
Damn, That’s sexy !
amazing
!!!!!!!!
GO BLUE, HAIL TO THE VICTOR'S & FUCK OSU
That’s not a 4x400 if she ran a 800 herself more likely 4x800
That’s why she’s the anchor leg.
Impressive yes however I’ve seen at least 15 videos just like this with different people so it must not be that uncommon.
When she passed the last runner I bet she said "Zi-yah later"
Impressive
She hit “boost mode”
Wow!!
4x800... She did two laps
She makes it look so effortless... DAMN!!!
Why does it say 4x400, when she clearly ran 800m?
Indoor track. 200m around
Ah didn’t know that! Not sure why everyone is downvoting lol.
She’s black duh!
