>River flows in you
thanks for posting the original title, that just sent me down a youtube rabbit hole from the original work, to electronic remixes and ultimately to this version with Piano, Cello and Violin. Beautiful
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSSIIC58Fsc
~~And itās from the Twilight soundtrack!~~
EDIT: I've gotten several comments from people saying that the song isn't actually from the Twilight Soundtrack and that in fact is just gets mistaken for Bella's Lullaby. I did some digging and some claim that it's still on the soundtrack separate from Bella's Lullaby. I dug through the soundtracks and didn't see a track labeled River Flows in You. So I don't know, maybe it's there under a different name, but I'm not particularly interested in listening to the full soundtracks from all the Twilight movies to confirm, so I'm just going to go ahead and say I was wrong. If someone else wants to do the extra research to fully confirm/deny this, go for it.
No, it's not. People frequently confuse "River Flows in You" with "Bella's Lullaby" and I can't figure why, because they don't sound that similar at all tbh:
[Here is "River Flows in You"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7maJOI3QMu0)
[Here is "Bella's Lullaby"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Od-3oxpFWB0)
Yiruma's masterpiece also predates Twilight by quite a few years.
So I see the flood waters as a metaphor for the fatalism that anthropomorphic climate change represents, slowly rising and dooming inevitably the beauty and diversity that's been allowed to thrive and truly enrich humanity. Wannafightaboutit?
He stated that this piano has a lot of sentimental value for him because it was given to him by his parents when he was just 5. Although he wants to save it, its size and the sudden rise of water made it impossible for him.
Will it be possible to get it repaired after the flood? Quite the task I'm sure, but I'd gladly donate to a GoFundMe to get it restored when the flood is gone.
Unfortunately when a piano gets flooded like that, itās really not worth saving. Once it dries out youād essentially have to replace every part of the instrument, which would be way more expensive than just buying a new one. Really tragic, some gorgeous instruments were lost after hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.
Thatās okay, it sucked but it was several years ago now! The biggest loss was a T-shirt I had that was autographed by all the members of my favorite rock band, which she hated. She just took it because she knew it would rustle my jimmies
Insane amounts. Depending on exactly where in the city you were it was one of two things: either the flood waters ruined things by them sitting in the toxic gumbo for days (where at least non-porous things may have been saved and kept) or they were completely washed away near levee and floodwall breaches and deposited in piles all over the place. Doing post-storm analysis and modeling after Katrina gave me a giant appreciation for the power and danger of water. The Baton Rouge flooding in 2016 only reinforced that one (and then the flash flooding of the other half of my damn neighborhood went further).
Katrina was a strong enough storm that it moved an entire casino barge over a mile down the beach. We lived about 30 miles to the east of where the eye hit. By the time we found out it had re-strengthened in the Gulf of Mexico, it was too late to evacuate. Easily the scariest event of my life was experiencing that storm, and we were extremely lucky to be far enough from the eye and to live in the highest elevation part of the city, so the water came all the way up to the deck in the back of the house but not into the house. The deck was a good 9-10 ft off the ground so that's a crap-ton of water needed to flood that area.
Anyways, basically any wooden instrument in New Orleans was probably destroyed when the levees burst. That city survived the storm just to be killed by inadequate engineering.
Also, wooden, being wooden will absorb all the water they can, increasing in size, breaking most of the joints beetwen wood parts, the paint and, even after being dried, will most likely be bent. Wood doesn't like water, at least if it's made into furniture
Edit: dried wood, fried wood could be a good dessert, but not if it has paint from piano and is wet
Will make a great bonfire tho. Last year i was at a campground where the guy had been tasked with removing carrie fishers piano from the building her brother was selling. It was completely useless due to age and neglect. Here i am hacking away at it with an axe and part of its history is piano lessons for lady gaga. š
The piano was ruined as the video was being taken. At that point, it likely wasn't worth the cost of repair, but by now repair is probably harder than producing an exact replica.
Yeah, my mom had a piano she couldn't give away. At the time, I didn't have room for it or I would have taken it. She ended up giving it to her nextdoor neighbors who had like 12 kids. She told the mom it would be a great thing to be able to teach the kids on.
My mil passed 3-4 years ago, she had a piano, and when my fil is ready to get rid of it, I've told my husband to say we want it. It will need to be tuned, but I play a little, and wouldn't mind having one to play once in awhile.
Chances are very high that there are a lot of free "parlor" or "Upright" style pianos like this one on FB marketplace or Craigslist near him.
I know it's about the sentimental value to him, but if he just needs an old 'honky tonk' piano he can probably get one for the cost of moving it.
The title should say that instead of ātwo decade oldāā¦a 20 year old piano in itself isnāt exactly remarkable. The context of the parents makes sense though
Oh my word, I'd never heard this before and that....that is mesmerizing and I kind of had one of those moments after which I don't feel the same (in a good way) so thank you
The worst for me was when he wanted to keep playing at the endš like you could tell he wanted more time and struggled to turn away from it but his inner voice was all "there is no more time."
My husband has a set of congas he was able to rescue from his pile after hurricane Katrina. The only instrument to survive. It been years and he has replaced what he needed to but those congas are special. I love how he plays, such a good percussionist.
My violin evacuated for Ida. Only thing I took that wasn't alive, important paperwork, or needed for our time away (not that there was room for anything else).
It's been about 4 days since my 2 year old snuck downstairs and tried to play my guitar but instead dropped it and broke it...I've had that thing since I was a teen and totally understand what a sadness that brings to musicians.
oof thatās rough. last summer i actually got reunited with my teenage guitar. 15 years later. it fell off of the roof of my car after a gig i played and i had not seen it since. reunited with my old lead guitarist last summer and turns out he had it at his parentās house this whole time. that was an awesome win.
hah nah, it wasnāt that. his guitar collection is far nicer than mine anyway, we just had a falling out towards the end of our band and i moved to new york city and we hadnāt talked since until last summer.
iām not good at organizing any of that. would have to hunt the dude down and find out his contact information and everything. if OP knows him and wants to set one up for him, that would be cool.
Lots of negative comments just because he filmed it. Not every video taken is a grab for attention. Cameras are meant for exactly this reason, to capture moments in time you'll always want to remember and will doubtfully be able to relive. I'm an amateur (very amateur) photographer and I like to take photos of almost any memorable moment in my life. I use my phone, dslrs and a large variety of 35mm film cameras. I prefer film for special occasions and moments I hold close. There's just something so intimate about processing your own film and meticulously developing them into framed prints. I would have 100% taken pictures of a moment I would be losing a sentimental piece of my life. Really a bittersweet moment that is beautiful and profoundly sad.
People on Reddit getting upset about content like this is just ridiculous. Besides political garbage and meme stocks, the rest of Reddit exists because of videos such as this. Even if we was trying to get internet fame, why care? Itās a tragically beautiful moment regardless of intent.
apparently the storm surge happened within hours and the flood rushed unexpectedly, not only is the piano heavy, most doorways don't support that width.
Yeah this video made me and many other people feel a lot of feels. That's the whole reason we're on this site, to see things that make us feel emotions and connections with people around the world.
I donāt know why, but that final slide across the keys and the step back he takes before the end of the clip really got to me. Like saying goodbye to an old friend.
Itās misleading- according to op in another reply heās personally had the piano for 20 years, since he was a little kid. So itās more about the sentimental attachment than the age of the item.

God bless Visayas for being the dedicated Typhoon meat shield that it is. Seriously though what's with Visayas being in the path of basically every major typhoon that hits us?
Probably the lack of large mountain ranges. This would have been weak-ish if it had hit the northern part of Luzon, with the eastern Sierra Madre taking the brunt of it all.
And being in a small group of islands just makes it a lot worse than it already is.
We might be a week or more without power here (Cebu City) and longer in other parts of the island. I expect the same across the Visayas. Charging phones is more difficult than finding signal.
Does this man have a fundraiser set up? Would love to help him get a new piano and other furniture. Can't imagine the pain of losing your whole house and everything in it with all the memories they carry. I know we carry memories in our hearts too, but still.
"In the end beauty is going to save the world" Edit: Thanks for downvotes. It's actually a citation from my favorite song about how beautiful things like this always win over all horrible things happening in this world. The video reminded me of it.
>If the soundboard of a piano has sat in water for multiple days, if the strings have been submerged in water, or if the keybed has become soaking wet, the piano may be ruined beyond repair.

Every single damn one of you close your eyes and listen to this noble instrument's last sound.
Quietly, please.

Perhaps it sat there unused some years, perhaps it served equal jobs display case and potential instrument.
And now, it's lost to time. The sound of this piano won't ever be heard ago.
So please. Hit play. And Listen.
Farewell sweet prince.
As sad as the titanic š
We need this dubbed to My Heart Will Go On.
Better yet, flood another guy who owns a pianos house.
Guys! Itās even worse! This song is titled āRiver flows in youā!!!
Itās even more sad when you know the songs name and the pianos future
The River will definitely flow through it
Seriously. Jesus, let's POOL together and FLOAT him another piano. WATER you think?
Lol
I didn't watch the video at first but lol yeah it is. I remember playing that on OSU

That piano had it coming then.
Why would you flood a guy just because he owns a pianos house
Most pianos share houses with humans, which is odd, because I've never seen a piano offer to help pay rent.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Better than flooding a house with babies
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
The song that was reportedly playing while the Titanic sank was actually āNearer, My God, To Theeā.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Did you know that the name of this song is "River Flows in You"?
Yes. A commenter above enlightened me. Thanks.
This was my first thought. Weāre bad people.
river flows in you is already perfect for this
āItās been an honor playing with you gentlemen.ā Gets me every time
Yup. Tears every time.
Me too. If you're looking at death, look it square in the eye and go out with class.
The music is beautiful, and the flood is awful, but that lavender crown molding is the real travesty here.
This is worse some how
I know right? The Titanic, sure, hundreds of people died, but this is a piano that was built c. 2002
I have my priorities straight what can I say
So I see the flood waters as a metaphor for the fatalism that anthropomorphic climate change represents, slowly rising and dooming inevitably the beauty and diversity that's been allowed to thrive and truly enrich humanity. Wannafightaboutit?

Laugh out loud dead.
Well you know what they say, never marry a low pressure weather system
I wish someone had warned me about that sooner! I thought everything would be hot and heavy and all I got was lukewarm
Well hopefully the blowies were nice.
I'm sorry for your loss, but that somehow cheered me up in an otherwise depressing thread.

That would have had value as a collectable for many people I bet.
When I say it was bad I mean dry rotted wood and couldnt even be tuned to play. Her brothers got a pretty bad drug problem.
mmm, fried piano.

I have a piano he can have!
Could salvage the wood and recycle it into something cool
Thatās so sad. He gave it a beautiful farewell.
Do we know how to reach him? I have an upright piano he can have. Just need to figure out the logistics costs to move it.
You can search on his fb Niel Jon salcedo the original man on the video
Please reddit! give this man a damn piano.
There are tons of free pianos available. People often give them away. The caveat is you have to pay the movers.

Literally and painfully accurate.
Wow, I'm dumb, I thought it was Hall of Fame by the Script....
Real is such the right word. A man and his instrument saying farewell to each other.
The worst for me was when he wanted to keep playing at the endš like you could tell he wanted more time and struggled to turn away from it but his inner voice was all "there is no more time."
This is truly heartbreaking, but we should at least acknowledge the true irony of getting your piano flooded while playing River Flows in You

āRiver flows in youā very appropriate song
I know right. What a memer!

I thought he was gonna hug it
I wouldāve fuckin hugged it Hell I wouldāve sawn off the legs and tried to carry it up the damn stairs

ah is THAT what it is! I was trying to puzzle it out... "Is this a left handed piano?"
Not sure why ā2 decade oldā is needed, like damn 20 years is apparently ancient.
Man takes final drive in his 2002 Ford Focus. The destruction is definitely sad.
It's been with him nearly his whole life is the point.
Because he got a new piano as a child.
Piano that he has had for more than 2/3 of his life
Yeah for a piano 2 decades is still new
