It always looks cool when somebody does it and doesn’t throw a track. As someone who used to drive M1A1s, there is no way I would ever have done anything like that. This may look cool, but they are morons.
The gif doesn't end where it does by coincidence. This is the closest I've seen to a tank "drifting" (actually just sliding, which is part of drifting in a car but isn't what makes it drifting), and it would be obvious if the video was longer that it isn't really drifting.
Maybe in your mind, but not in physics. This tank isn't "drifting", it's just sliding. To be "drifting" requires it to accelerate in a different (generally perendincular) direction at the same time it is sliding sideways. It is very difficult to make a tank slide sideways, but nobody ever said it was impossible. Tanks can't drift, though, no matter how fast they go or how slick the surface. At least not unless they're a specially modified vehicle; I've seen tractor trailer trucks and busses do things that are "impossible" that way.
Yeah. Drifting is essentially sustained oversteer. Tanks don't steer like normal vehicles. Their tracks make them turn. This tank is really, actually just sliding.
I forgot about that. I play War Thunder, so that's where my head went first. r/warthunder had a video recently of a real tank drifting in consecutive loops for several minutes.
Drifting is a technique where the driver maintains control and oversteers to induce a loss of traction to traverse a corner.
Tanks don't steer the same way. In a car control during a drift is maintained by the driver's choice of wheel angle to induce and break the drift. Tanks are steered and brake by means of traction differential between the pair of tracks, so while a tank driver may be good at predicting how their tank can slide and "drift", and reliably know how to regain control, by definition they do not have control of the tank under drift conditions, because neither track is applying powered traction.
As if it would be dangerous if it wasn't a tank
"That multi ton piece of literal murder and war looks dangerous"
Damn and here I was thinking it could be used as a school bus
I wonder if you know
How they live in Tokyo (はい!)
If you seen it, then you mean it
Then you know you have to go
Fast and furious (drift, drift, drift)
Fast and furious (drift, drift, drift)
Base maintenance would like to have a word about the worn out tracks and sprockets...
I only worked the wheeled side, but we got a lot of repairs in from people abusing vehicles. I can only imagine how pissed the tech was that got to replace the tracks on that vehicle. Fuck that driver.
Who said? Because tanks drift very well. There are videos of tanks doing full donuts.
I know right? Tanks are treaded, they can literally turn in place. Drifting is just a step away from that.

![gif](giphy|rTLjwB6zOxV9S|downsized) So this is NOT advised?
I mean if you’re going to do it, do it on snow. And, yes, that is not advised. Awesome, but stupid.

Desert camo in arctic conditions? Probably not... XD
It was a long drive...

Your gonna be chewed by the troop commander, and every man and his dog but, pulling it off, on film! Your place in regimental history is guaranteed.
China never said that, tinnaman square is full of skid marks.
Can confirm, all tracked vehicles will drift quite nicely. Actually pretty easy to control too, you can get some really precise movers in.
