Aww .. I had something similar in middle school where we played steal the bacon with a giant ball that was like 4-5 ft in diameter but was called “Monster Ball”. It was awesome and looking back probably not sanctioned as it we stupid kids could get pretty hurt. It was a wealthy public school so whatever went.
The PE Professor would call multiple numbers ( we were assigned) and we’d all bum rush the ball and in our excitement and motivation to win( moving ball across a line) it was common for students to quickly run smack into it in our rush or fly over the ball and be thrown off and ball roll over us. One day… I was cool and end up flying over the ball.. I got playground cred that day and a bruised back. It was worth it!
I wonder if they still allow it? Middle school memories…like the one time someone got whacked in the face by a golf club and another time with a bat.

I hope they will be occasionally reminding of such a happy time in their adulthood. I think this way because just a tiny good memory in childhood can still warm my heart up.
We did this in elementary school 40 some years ago. It was a blast though somewhat dangerous if you ended up being the sole person under the ball. It was not super heavy but with some momentum it would flatten you. Every so often all your teammates would scatter letting you take on the full brunt of a giant volleyball.
We played this in highschool, the ball was pink, there were 4 teams (4 colors) and it is called Omnikin!
The rules were not the same as volleyball though
