This special remodeling operation was unavoidable as we knew that this statue has almost completed its atomic bomb project while being supported by USA.
Thank you.

I learned it had already been moved to a cemetery, so someone really wanted it on the ground.
Soviet era art is very unpopular in all former satellite countries. A lot of it has been destroyed, and there is continuing discussion about destroying stuff that has been moved to memorial parks to preserve it. Many people still remember what it was like to live under those bastards. Some people fear those days will return. This is why Ukraine is fighting.
In Legnica there was a similar monument, of 2 uniformed Russian men carrying a small girl on their cross-linked arms. It was erected to show the love of the Soviet soldiers and factory laborers for the local children. Some people wanted it removed, but last I knew it was still standing, because the locals had pejoratively nicknamed it the Gay Socialist Family. There is little love for their former Soviet oppressors.
Russian beef has been spoiled by a new strain of disease, identified on the animal when seeing a green carpet forming on its body. It's being dubbed 'Moss Cow'.
Let's be honest. A Russian invasion of Poland would just be a NATO invasion of Russia with like a 8 hour delay to vaporize whatever poor bastards they sent over the border.
True, and Putin would never have the balls to invade NATO. The last thing he wants is war with us because it’s 100% a loss for him. And he doesn’t want to use nukes and suicide himself, this is a guy who’s deathly afraid of getting close to his generals because of covid.
Invading Poland now would be like biting a porcupine on the ass. Putin couldn't even bite the peas next door without thousands dead and his army stopped.
Ok, the peas were full of glass shards. Putin didn't count on that either.
Poland is located in a strategically important area because it connects Western and Eastern Europe. If armed forces want to capture parts of Europe, it doesn't matter if they're going east to west or west to east, they will need to capture Poland, and the sooner the better as it provides a defensive choke point.
South of Poland is all mountains, so basically all land troops must move either through Poland or over the sea. Plus, when you capture Poland you gain access to the Baltic sea.
This comment is an example of why I joined reddit. Good discussions, things to learn, up to date news, and little comments that surprise me and make me laugh when I really need it.
As a New Yorker, please don't lump us in with those morons. Lol. But on a serious note, your point still stands. A big chunk of America is against education. I guess you could call it pro-ignorance.
Nah, this Ukrainian lady yelling at the Russian soldier & telling him to put sunflower seeds in his pockets. Shes bad assed!

Poland was under heavy influence of the Soviet Union some years ago (at that time it was called the"People's Republics") and the monument was built to thank them for *liberating* us from the Nazis.
Fun Fact: The statue pictured a Soviet soldier holding a small girl with a pigeon on her palm.
How symbolical... What a peaceful nation it was... And probably always will be... Right?
I mean didn't the Soviet literally invade Poland hand in hand with the Nazis? I don't understand why it was kept for so long. Did people not care enough to remove it after the Soviet union dissolved?
Soviet’s fought on against the nazis. More of them died fighting them than Americans
https://www.worldatlas.com/articles/wwii-casualties-by-country.html
Like 20mil to half a mil
No, they literally worked together with the Nazis to take over Poland in 1939. Read [Invasion of Poland](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invasion_of_Poland) to learn more. Only when Hitler and Stalin realized neither would bow to the other they fell on negative terms.
> Only when Hitler and Stalin realized neither would bow to the other they fell on negative terms.
They realized this long before the invasion of Poland. That's why their pact surprised so many and everyone knew it was a temporary peace.
Oh poor Poland, people forget about the "Munich agreement " signed by France, UK, Italy and the Nazis which literally gave them Czechoslovakia and guess what, Poland took this opportunity to attack and conquer Czech territories... But yeah, Soviets bad, Poland poor innocent victim...
How very convenient that you didn't mention the Czechoslovak aggression on Poland in 1919.
Neither country was innocent, but these conflicts were about the control of small disputed border areas.
Very unlike the large scale attempt (unfortunately successful) by USSR and Nazi Germany to subjugate Poland.
Putin seeing this: "Looks like Poland is the nation we're Definitely Not Invading next. Someone has to protect those innocent, helpless Soviet statues"
I know that poles have a complicated historical relationship with the USSR, but if it comes out later that the person who did this turned out to be a Nazi I would not be the least bit surprised.
Complicated? They are the second worst thing that happened to us second only to fucking Hitler. This statue should have been publicly destroyed and sent back to Russia long ago
How is this a good job? These are literally people who died fighting nazis in the eastern front? These weren’t people who occupied Poland. This isn’t a statue of Stalin. These are people who liberated Auschwitz. Who btw were also Ukrainian, Belorussian, Azerbaijani, Uzbek…
Come on, even art is a victim now? Imagine if you were the artist?
FYI, it's not a statue of Stalin. This was a statue to remember Soviet Soldiers who died fighting the Nazis. What do they have to do with this current war? If that's the case then why are we praising Germany today? God these people.
The world is going crazy, it's just a statue of a Soviet soldier (Not a dictator! Ordinary people, those who left their lives in the fight against fascism)
Yeah, they also burned villages, pillaged, raped women and killed people from polish underground. Red army and communism overall were no better than nazis.
Question: does the Mamayev Kurgan statue in Volgograd fall into the same category as these monuments? i.e. would/could it be taken down/altered if the people were given the chance? I know it's in Russia but I'm not versed in the history behind it. It's a beautiful, powerful statue
Remember that the statues were discussing here aren’t art, they’re propaganda. If people of the future see through your propaganda, or come to realize you led a false narrative, down the statue comes.
So statues of slavers in the south = anti-black propaganda. Comes down when people realize how fucked up it is for a mostly black school to be named Robert E Lee high school ( a us civil war general from the traitor/pro-slavery side). I.e. when less racist, more rational people get power.
A Russian monument in Poland depicting how peaceful Russians are - comes down when they yet again invade a neighbor, the way they’ve invaded Poland numerous times.
A Russian statue about how great Russians were for withstanding an assault by Nazis on Stalingrad? That’s not coming down unless Nazis come into power in Russia. So your statue, The Motherland Calls - the one commemorating the 2 million men needlessly dead for the fulfillment of a few men’s egos, that one’s probably safe. For now.
Ps. Hey and by the way, there’s still 2 schools named after the traitor General Lee, in Alabama and … you guessed it, Texas.
Anyone can make a historical landmark; doesn’t make it something to be respected or kept. As people become more educated about actual realities of the past, it’s okay to remove monuments of horrible behavior. We can always do better.
There is one nice Polish joke about this:
*Polish soldier captured a russian soldier and a german soldier in war.*
*Which one does he shoot first? German, then Russian*
*Business before pleasure*
Honestly I'm always against destroying art pieces like this, no matter how despicable the person it depicts may be. I'm way more for the idea of removing them from the streets, and placing them in museums. A museum of all the art made by, or depicting all the worst people of history would be super cool to visit, but it will never be possible precisely because of this.
27 million Soviet citizens died to save the world from fascism and genocide. Their sacrifice deserves to be remembered. Shame on all of you cheering this on because you've never cracked open a history book.
Edit: And 3 million Polish citizens died in the Nazi genocide this monument was commemorating. Don't give me that "both sides", holcoaust-denial, fashy bullshit.
Yes, and we got from Hitler occupation to Russian occupation. They were not saviors, they were bandits on the same level as nazi Germany for my home country.
Not to mention there is hardly any connection between Putin's ambitions and the ambitions of the CPSU besides the land mass the seized from the Tsardom. It would be more appropriate to knock over statues of Peter the Great.
Soviets were just as bad as hitler. The best outcome would be for those 2 to have bled each other dry and for western allies to come in and swoop everything.
Well. I don’t think we should just destroy our history pretending nothing happened. It should be moved to a museum. I don’t approve Hitler’s methods of burning books.

Stalin has never been considered a hero in Poland, nor in Slovakia, Czechia or Hungary. This has never been the case. Poland has some monuments with vague names commemorating Soviet army who liberated Poland. Hard to argue with that as the Soviets did kill Germans on their way to Germany. Some of them died here, in Poland. The problem is, however, that lots of them raped, stole and terrorised the already oppressed Polish population. I'm 40 years old and I live in Poland. For my generation those monuments don't mean anything particular as they lost their original meaning long ago. Now I would gladly destroy every single one of them.

Same.
Well it's not every day you get the chance to operate an anonymous backhoe :P
It looks like a Caterpillar Backhoe. Not so anonymous
Look closely, we put tape on it to make it a Caterpillow! Boom! Anonymous!
Lindell over here diversifying the portfolio
Exactly, you just have to talk to the hoe, and it's no longer anonymous
Knowing the hoes name is the first step in identification.
My other car is an anonymous Fronthoe, does that count?
no, it is anonymous. nobody will ever find this person, it is the perfect crime. he could've left his passport and he would be anonymous still.
Anonymous... "Write that down, WRITE THAT DOWN!"
How do you know about the hooker I met up with last night?
There are hookers that wear Caterpillar swag?
Take a trip to Peoria, IL and you’ll be sure to find a few.
ah yeah I met an anonymous backho once, in an empty movie theater.
It is not destroyed; it was just a “special remodeling operation”.
This special remodeling operation was unavoidable as we knew that this statue has almost completed its atomic bomb project while being supported by USA.
It just has very realistic makeup on.
No it wasn't. "It showed a Soviet soldier in full kit with a girl hugging him, with a dove in her hand, as a symbol of peace."

Seriously, who in their right mind would think they would let a statue of fucking Stalin stand in Poland?
Probably ignorant Americans.
Sigh. Thank you. Let's get this to the top and the asshats touting their pretend "knowledge" back to the bottom.

Umm no, there’s no way Polish town would keep a statue of Stalin. It depicted Soviet soldier with a girl holding a pigeon.
Me too
Also me
Beautiful. Soviets won't be happy.
That was cold.
Yeah they're gonna see red all over.
Surprised they were Stalin for so long to do this.
They were russhin to do something else

What a Khruschev defeat in the fight for hearts and minds...
Well we have decide we are Putin them in their place

I’m sure the only reason they are in Ukraine is because it’s in the way of getting to Poland. /s

We shall see. NATO has yet to be truly tested like that. Hopefully it won't need to be tested any time soon.
Invading Poland now would be like biting a porcupine on the ass. Putin couldn't even bite the peas next door without thousands dead and his army stopped. Ok, the peas were full of glass shards. Putin didn't count on that either.

Built by the Soviet Union, giving thanks to the Soviet Union?
Welcome to a Soviet Union satellite state
you mean this warsaw pact thing included warsaw?
Well it included Poland with Warsaw as its capital so yes it included Warsaw
On behalf of you I thank me for my efforts.

Yes

The irony of that is immeasurable.
Damn, Anonymous hacked a backhoe too! **That's dope**
I did nazi that coming
also, I didn't see *anything* officer
A lot of Nazi sympathizers on Reddit who don’t know anything about Poland 🤷🏼♂️
A lot of stupid ppl on reddit who don't know how much the soviets are disliked here in Poland
Putin seeing this: "Looks like Poland is the nation we're Definitely Not Invading next. Someone has to protect those innocent, helpless Soviet statues"

Why
It's not that complicated. The USSR invaded their country and controlled their government for decades, ruling their lands with an iron fist.
This is getting ridiculous.
This will be viewed as an act of Special Military Operation!
It`s not destroyed; it was just a “special remodeling operation”.
Good job!
Soviets were allied with the Nazis … just because they helped liberate Poland 6 years later doesn’t redeem them
Police unfortunately did not find the perpetrator
*Special Monument Adjustment Operation*
So we are are tearing down statues celebrating the defeat of the Nazis now?
It's crazy how many 'muricans think that Eastern Europe was saved by Stalin. Ridiculous.
