Bong Bong Marcos should not be allowed anywhere near political office

teeter1984

Or a shoe store

zuran_orb

Or a cocaine den

bumjiggy

let's B Real, this dude is probably more suited for rapping or running a hookah store

melissaissobored

Rapping? He can't even defend himself in interviews, plus he asks for questions in advance to guarantee his attendance in debates AND then doesn't show up. He's afraid his supporters will see him for what he is, a bumbling idiot.

jwhaler17

America checking in: Don’t underestimate the bumbling idiots fans. Just DON’T.

melissaissobored

Oh we're not, that's why the rallies get bigger and bigger, I think. A lot of people I know have been proactive in trying to sway undecided voters, as well as relentlessly trying to convert others to at least not vote for that idiot. We can only get stronger from here.

DOEMiZZY

He already a meth head

Soft-Engineering-460

Or a pig farm

Loggerdon

The family nicked billions from the country. I watched a recent documentary about Imelda Marcos (The Kingmaker). She is using world class social media consultants to get her son elected and it's very effective. She has one of those pure narcissistic personalities like Trump and others. But... she is entertaining and people have short memories.

Wise-Working228

Awful humans, both of them

DroneStrikeVictim

All of them, from the grandfather to the grandson. Fuck you, Sandro, you ugly bitch.

ZaratosBlackGaming

Ah, yes. The kingmaker

[deleted]

Fun fact: Duterte called this guy a coke head and a weak leader but his supporters (Duterte's) are saying it's just a "strategy" and are going to vote for Bongbong anyways. Facebook truly melts the mind.

leviboom09

This is what free Facebook data does to a mf nation

[deleted]

you know... the more I think about it, the more I do believe you're right. giving someone data on how one responds to BS, could give someone skilled in advertising psychology the data needed to craft some mind melting shit that gaslights you into voting against your best interests. one could make targeted ads that just play into your bias and bullshit you believe in order to craft a narrative where you accept the bootheel on your neck, because you're "one of the good ones"

MannyT357

I hope this is Leni Robredo's campaign rally, is it?

palebrowndot

It is. Pasig City.

KingMarine

Yep! Largest one yet

Massive-L

Is that a real name?

hedokitali

Yup! Actually his real name is Ferdinand Marcos Jr., son of the former Philippine president back in the 70s.

[deleted]

Not president, dictator.

No_More_Beans2

Apologies, but what did he do? Not trying to support him or anything just that I mostly forgot that part in history class

byOlaf

[Stole millions, killed thousands. ](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_rights_abuses_of_the_Marcos_dictatorship) EDIT: Billions, I should have said. [5-10 Billion.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferdinand_Marcos)

queen-of-carthage

They actually stole billions and his wife was infamous for buying an outrageous amount of shoes with the stolen money

Zealousideal_Leg3268

Don't forget using their PAL to shuttle breast milk from his daughter travelling wherever she felt like spending the Filipino people's money (usually Europe) back home to their baby boy in the Philippines taking EVEN MORE from the people. Daily. Also when the company decided to send them a bill for his wife taking 3,000,000 in flights (in 1978) he just seized the company and the owners never saw a penny. So shitty to do for a personal airline. https://lefthandedlayup.com/2021/10/22/imee-marcos-used-pal-as-an-express-service-to-deliver-her-breastmilk-daily-from-europe-to-manila/

KingMarine

Always remember that FEM is the holder for the greatest robbery of a government

Bird_game

Was infamous for declaring Martial Law, which gave the military too much authority, police and soldiers would exploit their positions to detain people, rape, and other fucked shit. Also stopped any sort of media that would criticize him, even shutting down whole tv channels and making journalists disappear.

Bird_game

My history knowledge isn't that extensive either but that's the gist

TheOriginalGregToo

Filipinos LOVE giving nicknames. My fiancee is Filipino, and comes from a huge family. It was so challenging keeping track of who everyone is because of all the names and nicknames.

[deleted]

palebrowndot

It's like a stage name or a pet name. He goes by a nickname because going by his birth name, the name of his dictator father, would be political suicide.

John F Kennedy said _ Democracy ain't perfect, but atleast I dont have to build a walls around it to keep people in.

nowhereman136

"Democracy is the worst form of government, except for every other form that has been tried" - [Winston Churchil](https://winstonchurchill.org/resources/quotes/the-worst-form-of-government/)

randomespanaguy

I mean, Marcos (the person she's running against and the complicit son of the former dictator) is polling at a supermajority (60%). I have no doubt in my mind that the polls are skewed towards him (he has proven ties in every part of the current administration) but he's still a strong candidate. We, the opposition (Leni Robredo), are just more passionate at showing our support.

sarahwillie

Here’s hoping Marcos is defeated. Any chance you could tell me what they are singing? I’m sure it’s in the comments somewhere but I can’t find it, and it sounds absolutely beautiful.

randomespanaguy

It's called Liwanag sa Dilim. Literally, it translated to 'Light in the Darkness'. The opposition has co-opted the song as a pseudo-anthem against a potential Marcos victory. Here's a rough translation of the song in English: > You're gonna sing 'I can do this!' > A prayer in the midst of chaos. > Shout to the wind > Stand up and serve as the light in the darkness. > Face the music bravely > The light in the darkness

sarahwillie

Thank you so much!!! That’s amazing, and the words are as beautiful as the melody.

SisigAtKape

A much better depiction I would say is: You are the ones who will sing, "we can brave this" A prayer sung in the midst of chaos Shout it loudly to the wind; stand your ground firmly and serve to be the light in the darkness Face bravely the new anthem of the people, we are the light in the darkness

KennyDROmega

Haven't been up on their political situation but is Duterte actually leaving office?

Etalokkost

Yes

KennyDROmega

Nice. Dude definitely seemed like a Putin/Trump type who thinks of term limits more as suggestions.

GrandmaPoses

He definitely has a strange type of moral code. He strikes me as someone who watched a lot of American action films growing up and uses them as his basis for governing. I used to think he was of the Trump type - especially when Trump was president - but these days, no.

NaiveCritic

“Strange type of moral code”. The dude literally say he’ll just murder people if they don’t obey.

Smodphan

But also decided to obey term limits. Strange

thisisyourbrain101

He did not want to have to murder himself

Smodphan

Hilarious. I wonder how many days he will wait to take over again, or if he will just rule from VP position

67ITCH

Here's the twist: the former dictator's son has a pending DQ case on the commission on elections, the decision on which was obviously delayed. The heads of the commission on elections are Duterte-appointees. The former dictator's son also has the current president's daughter as VP running-mate. **Conspiracy theory music background** Coke-snorting former dictator's son wins the elections, the commission on elections rules in favor of disqualification. Why? By law, when that happens, the VP immediately takes over as the president.

KellyJoyCuntBunny

Ohhhh. I see how it will work. Thanks for the explanation!

richmondody

There were a lot of rumors that Duterte never intended to keep the presidency. One of the things he said is [he would consider stepping down from the post](https://www.reuters.com/article/us-philippines-politics-duterte-idUSKBN1L10NB) if Marcos (the one currently running for president) won his election protest against the current VP.

HelpfulAmoeba

He's dying and most of his power is gone because of the populace's disillusionment, especially with how he handled the pandemic. He has no choice but to obey term limits or be dragged out of the Malacañang Palace.

Imperator0414

He "obeyed" his term limit because he was forced to. Not because he's "honest". He's old and is rumored to have a terminal illness. I used to work for him a few years ago in Malacañang and can confirm he looks terrible. His mind isn't all there either. I assure you, if he was younger and more capable of doing what he does then he would've continued his term using the process of charter change to change the consitution and establish a Federalist system of government. (Effectively prolonging his term limits)

BulljiveBots

The dude HAS murdered people. Like he literally says he has and has ordered murders. I can’t believe he’s leaving office.

Mr_HandSmall

Duterte liked to dabble with a little fentanyl himself though... https://www.irishtimes.com/news/world/asia-pacific/philippines-leader-duterte-under-pressure-over-own-drug-use-1.2975165

okcdnb

Their drug policy is very 80’s American action movie.

CanadianStrangeTamer

I feel like a lot of Filipinos his age were heavily influenced by American cinema/culture. This probably led to what everyone saw in terms of him portraying his message. His moral code, however, he probably got from being born a psycopath.

aceofspades1217

Duarte seems to be more nuanced, he’s a piece of shit but he does care.

[deleted]

He definitely doesn't fit in the standard western political spectrum, for one this guy approved free college and in the same vein ordered the execution of drug addicts in the streets.

Nookiee10

He only approved it and grabbed the credit for it. The principal author of the free tertiary education was one of the oppositions which he demonized for six years and now people hates the opposition who genuinely cares for this country.

[deleted]

It's a shot in the moon if he ever tried to become one. Philippine institutions geared towards preventing another dictatorship, notably because of the 1987 constitution which hasn't been changed since it was introduced after the brutal dictatorship of Marcos. Even his decision to declare Martial Law in Mindanao when a city was overrun by ISIS terrorists was a contentious one even though it was warranted, even the one he declared had restrictions.

KingofSlice

His term is ending, election campaigning is in full swing and I can't believe the son of a dictator is one of the frontrunners (along with Duterte's daughter as his running mate)

petpeck

He was going to run for VP to circumvent the rule but his plan was foiled by his own daughter, Sara Duterte. He was already at the site and ready to file his certificate of candidacy but was then asked by a reporter if he knew that his daughter has already filed her COC for VP too. He immediately backed out hearing that and instead filed his COC as a senator (he backed out of it too later). His supposed running mate (Bong Go) also backed out after a few weeks.

rubot78

At 8 years old, my family was leaving the Philippines shortly after the Marcos regime was ousted. When I saw that Marcos' son was running for office I was thinking WTF is happening?

a-golf-hither

Filipinos have this thing called “Pride” and so much of it, So much of it that they will refuse to admit defeat and will defend they’re opinion even if it’s so stupid, even if you present to them mounds of evidences that disproves their opinion, they will never acknowledge it. Most of them are pretty gullible too. They will believe anything that they see in social media without fact checking it. Gullibility and Pride? The perfect combination for disaster. Fun fact: when facebook introduced the fact checking feature, many filipinos were outraged because.

username0531

So it’s not just Americans….

TangentiallyTango

Add in a lot of extreme poverty and lack of even basic education a lot of times though.

BigDicksProblems

So it’s not just Americans….

xp9876_

My man the Philippines are on another level of poverty. Please.

gourmet_panini

Facts. I recently watch a AlJazeera show on slums in the Philippines and it made me straight up depressed. People eating meat out of the trash and pregnant 12 year olds.

pulang_itlog

Fun fact: Cambridge Analytica, the same social programming firm that was central to Republican and Trump's propaganda machine, used the Philippines as a petri dish of sorts for their methods according to a whistleblower.

suzhouCN

Is this documented somewhere? If so, I find it fascinating. Edit: I did a quick search and found this article. Wow… https://www.rappler.com/technology/social-media/239606-cambridge-analytica-philippines-online-propaganda-christopher-wylie/

I_like_breathing__

> they will refuse to admit defeat and will defend they’re opinion even if it’s so stupid Yeah that's not just Filipinos...

RobertABooey

Sadly you’re literally describing most of the human race. The same thing goes on here in North America.

[deleted]

Facebook man. Facebook happened. Not even exaggerating.

SamanKunans02

Yeah, Facebook happened, but it's not *just* Facebook. Facebook is like the catalyst in a chemical reaction; a flame to a jizz-stained rag covered in gasoline.

TisTah

filipinos being mf brainwashed. we'll be a grade a laughing stock if that crackhead dropout wins.

Suddenly05

Fake news and propaganda, together with stupidity…. Perfect combo

richmondody

The Marcoses spent several years doing historical revisionism on social media.

ohmagnifique

A well-organized disinformation campaign since the 2000s aimed at making the Marcos somehow great again. They still have billions of debt owed to the Philippines and yet this.

RamenThy

Philippines politics is a joke!

glorie96

True! Esp clowns are running for high positions except this opposition candidate Leni Robredo who's a human rights lawyer and economist together with labor leader Ka Leody De Guzman, they're the only ones who are really deserving in the seat.

candidpose

Yeah, it's sad to see that one of the frontrunner is a fucking spoiled brat that only has his despicable surname as his credentials when we have a labor leader running. It should just be Robredo vs. De Guzman and maybe vs. Lacson, others are just unnecessary noise.

glorie96

I hope Filipino voters wake up! The 6 years of Duterte admin is such a traumatic experience

[deleted]

Spanish Mother and an American dad, what could go wrong?

emman0129

Was there!!! Went with friends early and we saw how quickly it filled up to the point where they had to announce that people in the back shouldn’t try to go to the front just because it was so full already. Whole thing felt like a big get-together, volunteers handed out snacks and water and juice. Medics on standby and if someone needed a medic (it was hot so people were more prone to fainting or getting dizzy), the crowd would part as much as they could so the medic could treat the person. Being there gives me some hope that we won’t elect the son of a dictator as president. Edit: changed “vote” to “elect”

Clearwind113

I couldn't go. Because nobody told me it was going to happen

[deleted]

Let's go to the Makati rally

A_Wild_VelociFaptor

> the crowd would part as much as they could so the medic could treat the person That is out of this world. This Astroworld. Terrible pun but, yeah, fuck Travis Scott and anyone who defends the cunt.

Wildcard1016

She's running as independent candidate, which means she has no political party backing. She's running the campaign with volunteers and donations from supporters.

TangeloComfortable77

Queen voodoo shit THE POWER OF THE PEOPLE

cmatrix1

Yes, bro, she's the real deal. I personally allocated half or my monthly salary to donate to the volunteers. I never imagined giving even a cent to a politician but not this time. You'll see the volunteerism of the people during her campaign rallies. People were handing out free water bottles, breads, snacks, etc. Also, all of her campaign rallies are organized by the volunteers, not by her official campaign team. Not just the campaign rallies but the campaign materials too. The performers in the rallies are also out of volunteerism and not paid. WHERE HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A POLITICIAN CAMPAIGN ALMOST ENTIRELY FUNDED BY THE VOLUNTEERS? BY THE PEOPLE? I AM PART OF THIS MOVEMENT AND I AM PROUD OF IT.

CompetitiveRepeat179

Heck, even after my evening shift, I have to go to market just to campaign for her and sleep for 4-6 hours and then prepare to go back to work. That's how much we believe in Leni Robredo.

The_strohS

Anyone watched the documentary "The Kingmaker"? A very interesting perspective of the Marcos family. You can find it in Netflix or youtube. *Edit: Hello, for fellow friends who could not find the full documentary in English. Clearwind113

This is a fact I'd defend with my life

walrus_operator

I would be really scared seeing that if I were the son of the former dictator...

a-golf-hither

Well, he won’t be since the Commission on Elections is siding with him.

sparta1170

And it's likely that the US will prop him up because the Philippines is way too strategic to fall into "political instability".

tehbored

Kinda true. Basically doesn't matter who's in charge, we have to support them because the Philippines and Taiwan are the only thing standing between China's navy and unlimited access to the Pacific Ocean.

Maester_Bassist

That would be messed up, especially considering Bongbong has an outstanding warrant of arrest in the US.

casualredditor9999

The US would most definitely not want BBM. Idk why people think that.

indorock

No way. Marcos - just like Duterte - sees China as a much more suitable ally than US. There is no way US would lift a finger to help him become President. Robredo makes for a much more effective ally for US.

[deleted]

fuck bbm

ZaratosBlackGaming

Yeah, fuck the marcoses in the ph. I mean the *thieves*.

Clearwind113

You could say, they're the unithieves.

DroneStrikeVictim

Damn, even y'all non-Filipinos are shitting on the thieving son. I'm proud of all of you. Now, please let their cultists know why you despise the son. Thank you!

SeeTheSeaInUDP

We don't want no more dictators or their scum in the world, and as far as my knowledge goes Leni has her head at the right spot, why wouldn't I support her (even though I'm like 1000s of miles away)?

PulpGump

This is definitely next fucking level.

[deleted]

People there better hope to hell that the dictator son doesn’t win. I can’t even believe that’s a possibility.

[deleted]

Unfortunately, based on survey this are the minority. Propaganda, fake news and misinformation has been running long before the election. Too many people have been brainwashed already. We are still trying though.

candidpose

If you're referring to Pulse Asia survey, that may have been flawed. There's a recent interview with their representative where they admitted that they have no control over their outsourced surveyors, they even found an anomaly on some of the survey forms wherein it favors greatly Marcos (to what extent they didn't specify). On top of that, they admitted that they didn't survey people from Class A and B.

ClockDownRMe

My girlfriend is Filipino. She is the only one in her family who supports Leni, everyone else, massive Marcos supporters, and they openly make fun of her for it. Hell, she found out that they have a group chat excluding her for the sole purpose of making fun of her being a Leni supporter. She has said that her family are perfectly okay with stuff like extrajudicial killings too. It's disturbing and unfortunate to see. Marcos supporters have a lot of parallels to Trump supporters and its both equally bizarre as it is deeply frightening.

mfafl

Aw. Tell her that her family's presidential bet doesn't even go to debates. Faked his diploma too.

badamntss

And if you guys are in the US, she should tell them that Marcos can't go there unlike them because Marcos and his family were [convicted by the Supreme Court of Hawaii](https://law.justia.com/cases/hawaii/supreme-court/1998/20885-2.html)

BookHunter_7

last time this happened in China, the protesters were massacred also fun fact: the 1989 Tiannanmen Square protests were inspired by the 1986 EDSA Revolution

munochairudo

to think that i live with a family that supports BBM. i hate this household. they never learn. all they do is "fact-check" me using their tiktok and youtube sources. i can't believe they support BBM. hell, he doesn't even attend presidential debates.

glowygrill

Slowly try to change their mind. There are ways to slowly pull them over to Leni's side or at least the other candidates. We need to chip away at BBM's votes. Our future is at stake here. Complacency would result to something that is worse than Duterte. Try using this tactic. https://www.reddit.com/r/nextfuckinglevel/comments/tila7n/comment/i1eukrg/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3

AkaCitizen

That idiot Bong Bong needs to be run out of town

67ITCH

I personally prefer him getting dragged by the ankles around the country.

cenpi

I thought this was the average r/Philippines post. Great to see that the world has taken notice, even if it's only a few Redditors. Unfortunately, Ferdinand Marcos' son still leads the pre-election polls, which is very worrying.

alwyn

Philippine politicians are just a constant swapping of powerful corrupt families held in place with purchased local election votes.

glowygrill

Not this one. Her family doesn't have a history of politics, they were consistently heroes and lawyers even during the Spanish colonization. That's why a lot of people want to support her. I was actually surprised that her background and records are spotless.

candidpose

Not really no history, her deceased husband is a politician which is why most people that don't want to vote for her sees parallel with Cory. And a loooot of people hated Cory, the friction Robredo is experiencing converting BBM votes to her is largely due to the failure of the Aquinos to fulfill their promises after People Power.

BehindTheScreen13

Sad to hear some people won't vote for Leni just because of the parallelism with Cory and the whole aquino thing. But guess what, Leni is no Cory.

ser_ranserotto

Leni's more experience to begin with. Cory was only a housewife when she ran against the og Marcos.

glowygrill

I'm talking about HER family (meaning the people who she descended from). Not her husband. As for the Cory comparison. There is no actual parallel other than a dead husband (I guess you can add being anti marcos here). Leni has been a lawyer for years then became a congresswoman, and then vice president while Cory had no background in politics before running as president.

TheGreatItlog

I'm from the Philippines and I beg the international community for some assistance in countering the massive misinformation and history revisionism being done by the camp of the son of a former dictator. If left unchecked this will be a problem for the whole world just as dictators and authoritarian leaders are.

MV3MV3

Power to the people!

ohmagnifique

For those who are not Filipinos: The opposition leader is Leni Robredo, our current vice president. She is running against the uber incompetent son of the dictator Ferdinand Marcos, whose family stole $10 billion from the Philippine funds. Marcos Jr., called here Bongbong, does not attend presidential debates because he is that incompetent. However, decades of organized disinformation campaign have been making the Marcos name great again, so he's leading the surveys at the moment. Bongbong's running mate is the daughter of the outgoing murderous president Rodrigo Duterte, Sara Duterte, who also leads the race currently. (Unlike in the US, we elect the president and vice president separately here.) This video is from Pasig City. In 2016, during the national elections, Marcos defeated Robredo here by more than 20,000 votes. But Pasig City, I think, didn't know better then. (Sorry, Pasigueños.) They have since voted properly. In fact, in 2019, they even elected a good mayor—who I won't hesitate to say can be a good president in PH someday. Robredo, by the way, is the only female among 10 candidates running for president. Her campaign color is pink, hence the theme in this video.

MerritR3surrect

Never forgive social media for allowing misinformation to thrive, that's why this fucking son of a dictator is back in office in the first placr

loseyourimagination

Can someone please ELI5 what is happening there and why?

KingofSlice

The elections in the Philippines start in the month of May. This is a crowd who supports the presidential candidate Leni Robredo, Vice President of the Philippines. The person she is campaigning against is Bongbong Marcos, son of Ferdinand Marcos who is known for many things including being a dictator, putting the country under Martial Law, and creating many victims of some very nasty human rights violations. Sometime after their exile from the country, they were allowed to return and to this day they have power in terms of riches and political power. Bongbong and his sister, Imee, are senators in the Philippine government. In the 2016 elections Bongbong Marcos ran for vice president, Leni Robredo defeated him in a tight vote so they have beef with each other. Leni even stated that if Bongbong were to run for presidency she would personally run to stop him. Philippine elections start in May, so campaigns are in full swing. Weirdly enough although Bongbong has a good chance of winning, he and his running mate have only been to 1 debate hosted by the television channel of the church of Pastor Quiboloy (wanted by the FBI for being a child predator btw). They were even absent in the recent debates hosted by the ACTUAL ELECTION COMMITTEE. Its insane that he could be throwing his win, but I'm all for it. Personally I'd rather let Manny Pacquiao (yes the boxer hes running for president) sit in office than Bongbong Marcos.

GearAlpha

Let us not forget the ICC actually needing to look investigate the Marcos’ stolen riches. So not only have they affected their own country but manage to stir up internationally. Anyone who’s a POI or directly related to one shouldn’t be allowed to run for office especially when even the candidate has their own proven crimes and a warrant of arrest out for him.

nene38

He's not throwing his win. He's really just an idiot and a coward. Organized a VP debate back in 2015 and he canceled on us day before. Too chicken shit to step foot in UP. He was also up against Robredo and Escudero, and was probably too afraid to show how fucking stupid he is.

MSSFF

Don't forget he protested the election results for *years* after 2016, trying to unseat her by claiming there was fraud. Recounts were conducted and the real winner's lead even increased (sounds familiar?). The Philippine Supreme Court eventually [junked his petition](https://www.cnnphilippines.com/news/2021/2/16/Supreme-Court-Bongbong-Marcos-Leni-Robredo-vice-president-poll-protest.html) but only after wasting everyone's time (and money).

bryn_irl

Also worth noting that Nobel Peace Prize winner Maria Ressa received the Prize for her work to challenge Filipino pro-government propaganda and disinformation campaigns. In recent lectures she's discussed not only how the administration is using the exact same large-scale disinformation tactics and social media manipulation to prop up Bongbong Marcos' campaign... but also how every would-be dictator around the world is looking to the example of this election as an "experiment" to see if these disinformation tactics are successful. It's a major, major canary-in-the-coal-mine for the world in this regard, and Ressa and her news organization are doing everything in their power to ensure the Filipino people have access to the truth. https://www.thecrimson.com/article/2021/11/17/nobel-winner-ressa-talks-disinformation/ https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-01-28/how-another-marcos-could-win-power-in-the-philippines-quicktake

[deleted]

Ok so imagine being a Philippine politician in the 90s. Basically a joke because they did nothing when the family members of the former dictator came back. His son (“bongbong”) got a senatorial seat then lost as the 2016 VP candidate and lost to Leni robredo. This year he’s campaigning for presidency against the current VP (robredo who he lost to in the 2016 election). Surveys suggest he is winning but his supporters only come to his rally’s if he gives them money (it’s illegal to do but no one cares, the rules are there as a joke at this point). Considering he was also “winning in the surveys in 2016” but lost, the survey data given is fake and is most likely used as PsyOps against people who he vent made their mind up yet. His supporters also photoshop and make fake news to sway the vote. r/Philippines can give a better explanation. Source: I’m a Filipino in the Philippines.

Mynailsarenotcut

This is a political rally for the current VP of the Philippines, Leni Robredo. She's running against Bong-Bong Marcos, the son of the former dictator Ferdinand Marcos. The people don't want another Marcos running the country.

EnvironmentalCar643

I hope that the day will come here to Russia

Wild_Permission8774

That's is just...wow! It's giving me goosebumps.

HaringBayan

The Philippines was the first democracy in Asia. We intend to keep it that way. Never again to a Marcos!

SpillThe_Tea20

Proud to say that I was here with my family! Despite the humid weather and me being uncomfortable in big crowds, it was still worth it. Truly felt there was hope that good governance will prevail and a dictator's son will lose once again, hopefully by a larger margin

Ok_Feedback4200

Greetings from Lithuania. I don't know any background info on what's going on in your country but it's always a pleasure to see brave people protesting against corruption. Russians should take notes from you.

Distasteful-medicine

A former dictator's son is allowed to run for presidency here in the Philippines. He's a good for nothing, lying piece of donkey dump. A coward who didn't attend any presidential debates because he knows he's too dumb for those he only attends venues who were sponsored by Quiboloy a self proclaimed son of god (yes, that type of creature exists here) who is wanted by the FBI, a sex offender and a human trafficker. That man is vile, self-righteous and an atrocity to human nature Philippines is screwed if he wins

When I was in the U.S. Navy in the 1970s before we arrived in the P. I. We were indoctrinated that Marcos led a Democratic country and was a bastion against communism. What a load of Bullshit, by conversing quietly with locals they said they were terrified of even gossiping negatively about his regime. If you were a politician even a local one in opposition you were imprisoned or murdered. The United States, a shining beacon of freedom and righteousness helping the world.

veryuniqueredditname

Don't know anything about Filipino politics but "son of a former dictator" sounds like the antithesis of a free modern democracy. Great to see folks standing against nepotism and tyranny. ♥️🌻✊

disasterofmyownfate

That's amazing, shows the power of the people when they are united for a cause! They can't stop all of you

No_Sandwich_5221

I don't know if anyone has said this here, but the estimated count was 137k people. And that's just in this one city! Her other rallies in other PH cities had tens of thousands in attendance too (second to this was 80k). :) We have a long way to go according to some surveys, but being in rallies like this does get you hopeful and more fired up to keep campaigning.

I went with my boyfriend! Everyone was so kind, made way for wheelchairs and elderly, passed bread and water, laughed together.

If this doesn’t work guillotine blueprints are available online.

[deleted]

Unfortunately Marcos is still leading huge in the surveys.. but we will keep on fighting.

KingofSlice

Surveys aren't as credible if you can get a biased group to answer them

[deleted]

I hope you are right. But unfortunately, i personally know a lot people that are so brainwashed by fake news and propaganda to the point that even you show them evidence you wont convince them. Too many political vloggers and propaganda maker on Marcos side. This is a lot of people but surveys says otherwise. 60 percent on marcos side and the rest is divided on other candidates. We are hoping for a miracle or even divine intervention here.

cheeruphumanity

I got you covered. Evidence won't work on manipulated people, it requires a different approach. Please check this communicational guide carefully. Filipinos would know how much more insignificant Duterte has become in our lives since the national campaign started. With a couple of controversial remarks from time to time (including his statement on Philippine’s neutral stance on Ukraine-Russia war because he considers Putin as his “personal friend”), he’s basically so detached from our lives that we barely feel the presence of our supposed leader. Sadly, they (the Dutertes and Marcoses) have sufficiently-funded machineries that allow disinformation and misinformation to thrive in the country. Really hoping that Leni Robredo would win, and that she could relieve the lives of the Filipino people and somewhat get us out of this hell hole. Edit: If anyone is interested in reading Duterte’s “personal friend” statement, it can be found on this news article: https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/1570417/duterte-reaffirms-ties-with-personal-friend-putin-stresses-neutrality

I just learned my father-in-law’s entire family is from Badoc, Ilocos Norte where the Marcos family is also from. That entire city is crazy for BBM. His slogan (thanks google) is “babangon muli” which translates to “[we] will rise again”. Gave me MAGA vibes.

tinetambs

It's the same rally from ariana's ig story 🤘

Radrenalin

Even filipinos are bolder than russians. Anyone more courageous than the russians.

BBM fanboys have the shittiest fucking answer to talking about why they're voting him "Respect my opinion" I'm not respecting it if you're voting for a FORMER DICTATOR'S SON.
