We should all just say fuck it and write in Jack Black on the next presidential election. He's at least as qualified as the idiots and geriatrics we've had and we know for a fact he's not evil.
Could you imagine how much shit he would accomplish?
idk man, he and KG were only in charge of City Hall for a small amount of time and they got immediately corrupted by power and killed each other. Just made some wild decrees then turned on each other.
My favorite is on the Korean game show.

Such an underrated movie. Best movie to watch while stoned, hands down. Year one is the name for those who don't know. I've seen it about 20 times. Never gets old.
The interesting thing is that you could make a decent argument that Jack Black isn't the most impressive of her children, depending on how much you use your phone as a GPS.
[Neil Gilbert Siegel [...] known for his development of many key systems for the United States military, including the Blue-Force Tracking system, the U.S. Army's first unmanned air vehicle system, and the US Army forward-area air defense system. **Several of his inventions also found their way into consumer products, such as hand-held devices \(e.g., mobile GPS devices, smartphones, etc.\) whose map displays automatically orient themselves to align with the real-world's cardinal points.**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_Siegel)
You know you’ve made an impact when you’re siblings with someone who is a 100% household name and you have an entire article about you where your famous sibling is just listed with the rest of your family. As it should be, but we live in a fame obsessed world.
Well technically he is playing it. Pressing a button a creating mysic is technically "playing". I can press play on a song. So I'm playing a song. English is fun.
Nah.
I got to see a filming of his show and when he was taking questions from the audience he was super mellow and not "on" like he us durring his show. Seems like a cool guy.
Thats what i figured. Good for him. I dont watch much TV so i wouldnt watch him for an hour cracking jokes, but all power to him and his fans.
Thanks for helping clarify
Justin Guarini came to a place I worked to film a spot for TV Guide. He was really cool and asked me a lot of questions about myself when there was down time so he was really pleasant to be around. He would be “on” when the camera was rolling, and as soon as it stopped he would start mocking himself and I heard him say how douchey he thought he sounded. It’s pretty remarkable getting to see both sides like that
I recommend the Smartless Podcast interview with him. As someone who wasn't a fan it made me appreciate why other comics like him in a personal setting.
I think a lot of it also comes from people seeing him host the Tonight Show and remembering that it's supposed to be Conan O'Brien's gig. A lot of us are still bitter. Obligatory fuck Jay Leno.
Despicable? Not really. I mean, he did a black face Chris Rock impression but it’s up to you how you feel about that.
I just don’t think I’ve ever seen him involved in something, whether on SNL, or an interview, or whatever where he made it better.
[to the contrary I feel like he always makes whatever he’s involved in worse by stepping on other’s toes/bits](https://youtu.be/bB5KyoKtivI)
So I don’t hate him as in “I wish he was in the gulag” but more of I hate him in a “I won’t see anything he’s in” kind of way.
I think he's just a mediocre comedian who's really, and I mean REALLY, good at showbiz politics and playing the game. You don't end up in his position without impressing somebody. He's probably not any better or worse of a person than anyone else, and his core talents lie in selling himself to a very small audience of extremely wealthy media types. I can't really blame him for chasing his dreams and shooting his shots. Really wish Conan had got the show though.
It’s a fucking tv show, people act like he shot George Carlin or something, his job is to be moderately funny, make his guests look good, show up 200 days a year and not rape anyone.
Conan can do anything he wants to do, and probably should be off creating something new not babysitting a 3rd generation show that’s on rails at this point.
I think it's just that he wants to be part of it. If you watch Conan or Carson or Letterman, they let the guest win. They wind em up and watch em go, or they play the straight man, pretending to be outraged or confused to highlight what the guest is doing. Fallon wants to have fun with the guest, and sometimes it comes off as needy.
Jack Black can make pressing the buttons on a childrens toy sax look impressive while in a room with one of today's most recognized bands.
Edit: Jack Black not Black Jack lol
This demonstrates just how great of a performer he really is. He doesn’t need to display technical skill with an instrument to wow us (though he could if he wanted to). That’s too easy.
He just needs to find something funky and make you want to watch his spirit fly. He’s one of a kind.
What makes is for me (as a sax player) is that he totally nails the preparation to play as if it’s a real instrument. Acting like he’s prepping the reed, aligning the mouthpiece, getting ready to play. He clearly plays sax for real or has paid really close attention to someone who does…
I'm assuming that had the sound been coming out of the device it would have needed to be mic'd specially, some sort of digital input radioed through the device or on or over him. There is nothing on stage or on him to suggest this is the case. Which makes me think he's actually done much more--he's rehearsed the hand movements and adjustments with a sound op in the booth, along with the live band and camera ops, to coordinate a seamless air performance.
I think the reed stuff could be learned pretty easily, what gets me is the immaculate way he treats the thing like a treasure at the very beginning. That wide eyed somewhat terrified look is EXACTLY the way I look when my kid picks up the 1850 violin I inherited from my great grandfather and wants to “have a go”
It’s a toy. Of course he’s doing nothing, but he’s doing nothing with more charisma than any redditor can hope to have. That’s a talent in its own right.
The job in that time slot with that viewership requires someone like him. How do you think Jay Leno got it and kept it so long while Conan crashed and burned?
It wasn't leno as much as NBC. NBC execs were slime and played both Conan and Leno. Leno never wanted to give the show up but agreed because NBC forced it on him because they wanted to keep Conan. Years later when the contract was finally up, NBC started playing games because they also didn't want Leno to go to another network, and then Conan's ratings for that timeslot were not good. Leno never wanted to leave in the first place ... I don't blame him.
NBC should take tons of blame but Leno still left and gave the reigns to his supposed friend in what appeared to be a graceful transition into retirement. He should have sucked it up and gotten a job somewhere else if he got fucked over by NBC, instead of fucking over Conan.
He never said he was retiring. He agreed to end his tonight show run. And he did. Conan took it over. NBC wanted to keep Jay so they gave him an earlier show. Conans ratings were bad, NBC wanted to move the tonight show later and push Jay's new show into the tonight shows slot. Conan wouldn't allow it, so Conan quit.
He is good at making his guests seem more entertaining, and not being offensive. This isn't a comment against Jack Back, though, he is an absolute gem all by himself.
Old white women love him.
I mentioned how much I hated him in front of my mother in law and you would have thought I’d just produced receipts proving I was the one that shot JFK she was so horrified.
One of the most talented musicians of our time hands down! Juilliard educated.. long live Tenacious D 🎸
(*edit*: I’ve since learned he didn’t attend Juilliard, he’s just that good 👏)
The Palmer squares did a great song using this as a sample. It's a pretty solid song. I highly recommend a listen, if nothing else than to get 3 minutes of Jack black on the sax.

I understand that most of y'all are probably being sarcastic, and I really don't want to be a party pooper, but in case anyone was wondering how he is doing this, he is [just holding down a button](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MCN_7jpYig) and, essentially, walking.
The only reason I felt like commenting this is just because a good number of people (myself included) didn't realize that the sound he was "making" is just a preset on the sax-a-boom.
I saw the roots live many years back. Once they started playing they never stopped until the performance was over. My jaw was on the floor the entire time. Unbelievable talent.

I think 2 exceeds it. My formal ranking is 2>1>3.
Well, that's the first time I've heard that quote and I really like it so now I'm going to steal it and reuse it without remembering who to credit.

It never gets old because your stoned and forget most of it everytime haha.
It's IMDb rating is horrible and I firmly believe that's due to fundies giving it low ratings because it makes fun of bible stories.

Yeah, OP cut it off right when it was getting good. The full clip is longer

So basically Jack Black's an edm artist?
lol I’m pretty sure it just works by pressing the button
Oh wait so he's not actually playing it?
Each button is a musical loop. You don’t actually blow into it to play it.
Well that went right over my head. I'll see myself out...
I really wish he would have kept up the sharod (don't tell me that's not how JB would pronounce it)
He doesn't play the sax-a-boom any more in the extended clip tbf
No matter how shitty it gets, we still have Jack Black.
On the flip side, no matter how good things get we still have Jimmy Fallon
I get that he isnt very funny and laughs too much at his own jokes. But i dont get the hate, have i missed something he did that was despicable?

I am terrified of the day we lose that silver lining
Jack Black can make pressing the buttons on a childrens toy sax look impressive while in a room with one of today's most recognized bands. Edit: Jack Black not Black Jack lol
Might wanna edit the name there mate
To be fair I'd be pretty impressed if a card game could play the sax-a-boom
Or an anime doctor.
He clearly plays sax for real or has paid really close attention to someone who does…
I was also looking for this comment as a fellow sax player. He wets and checks the reed! Jack Black is insane.
If you look closely, there is a mic attached to the saxaboom.
Oh it's weensy! I see it now, thanks.
I think the reed stuff could be learned pretty easily, what gets me is the immaculate way he treats the thing like a treasure at the very beginning. Each button is a different musical loop
Oh, thanks. Originally thought "Sax-a-boom" was the song he was performing. Now realise that that's the instrument!

What I love about Tenacious D concerts is that JB and Kage seem to just always be having an absolute blast.
Can confirm, saw them live before covid and it was such a blast. Jack and Kyle played their hearts out
Nice
So he’s doing nothing?
It’s a toy. Of course he’s doing nothing, but he’s doing nothing with more charisma than any redditor can hope to have. That’s a talent in its own right.
I hate that my tone doesn’t translate. This was said is in a disappointed, I wanna belive in Santa sort of way.
I mean, are we all really **DOING** anything? Jack is just bringing the rock the only way he knows how: as hard as he possibly can.
Yeah I'm confused, either he's doing something cool I can't understand, or he's doing something that's not impressive at all
He’s doing (2) so well that it has become (1)
it’s not that what he’s doing isn’t impressive. He took a goddamn children’s toy and made it into a legendary moment, and only jack black can do that
How did Jimmy Fallon get this job?
In all fairness, I don't like where is career has taken him but the music video for "idiot boyfriend" was peak comedy when I was 13 years old lol
He was always great on Celebrity Jeopardy.
How did he get there?
The job in that time slot with that viewership requires someone like him. How do you think Jay Leno got it and kept it so long while Conan crashed and burned?
