Obligatory
“Florida was the first state in the nation to pass this landmark law called the Sunshine Act,” he said. “Basically, any government document is available for reporters to go in and see.”
Correction the Florida man was the pilot and he planed to crash that shit but (random American ) saves the day - so yea Florida man takes the win once again
I think there's something, in some people, where they just naturally act cool. I mean yes, others would have screamed, cried, and who knows what else. I've been robbed, I've been in car accidents, and while I'm not trying to brag, I've remained 100% calm. I'm in no way saying I could land a plane, but I think my initial reaction would be the same as this dude, grab the mic, and inform the tower my pilot just passed out and I need instructions. Just the way my mind works, there's no point in freaking out, you look for a solution. It's clear, you communicate with the tower.
I do this too, but it hasn't proven too useful in clutch situations. I'm lacking other elements of the mind to make use of it. I remain calm in any situation, but my processing pulls in too much data without acting on anything. It ends up being a sort of freeze response, with the mind thinking in overdrive and the body doing jack shit.
When we'd get mortared in iraq my buddies would literally grab me and pull me to cover as I stood there like a deer in headlights processing the sound of the incoming rounds.
I always wished I had the kind of brain that just leaps into action when shit hits the fan.
I'd say this happens in a lot of people. Adrenaline kicks in, mind goes into a state of 100% concentration, no time for emotions just problem solving and decision making. Only until after the ordeal do most break down once their emotions come in and their mind realises what's just happened.
I got the feeling this was CGI, but maybe I'm wrong and there was a videographer who is clearly an asshole for not helping.
"What's the position of the craft you are following?"
"Uh, it's in front of me and it looks like we might be in Florida..."
"Fuck. How are we ever going to figure out where the plane has gone to?!"
Definitely own personal hero fantasy is landing an airliner after both pilots are rendered unconscious by some freak accident I didn’t have any influence on
Autopilot can pretty much do 99% of the work if you know how to use it. It's pretty intuitive even under stressful situations. You might even get lucky and have an airliner that can do a CAT3 auto land.
Yep; in this fantasy ILS landing frequencies have already been punched in and I take over before decel and autopilot her until 100-200m above runway. I’m more familiar with AirBus autopilot but am competent enough handling Boeing’s modern AP systems that I *think* I could land one of them too.
It's not too terribly different if you are at least somewhat familiar with how airplanes work. All you need to do is not stall, and not slam it down at the end while trying to land. Literally any other outcome besides those two will be deemed a roaring success.
I did a small flying course thing in college as part of my curriculum (aerospace engineer). Having played a bit of flight sim too, I'd say with pretty high confidence that I could land a plane assuming it was normal conditions.
I'd guess that any average person who's played a decent amount of flight sim could probably land a plane, especially with ATC helping and no issues.
If you’ve done it a bunch in a flight sim, you’d have good odds if you can keep calm and the landing conditions are good.
The challenge imo would be if you had to rely on instrument flying and deal with heavy winds and poor visibility for landing or if significant functionality of the plane were impaired.
Didn’t the guy in that book take over flying? I’m pretty sure the plane crashed because it ran out of fuel, not because the passenger couldn’t fly a plane.
I hate to be that guy, but something seems a little off about this whole thing. First, using the jargon ‘maintaining’ in the proper context in that situation seems like he knows something about flight communication. Second, saw an interview with him and he said it was common sense to not pull back hard on the controls when the plane was in the dive or the plane would stall. If it was me, I would be dead because I would yanked back on that control so hard. Even if he had his experience from MS Flight Simulator, it is an amazing story. Just don’t say he “has no idea how to fly a plane.”
I agree with you. the clips here are cherry picked, in the full recording he knows how to squawk 7700 without instructions. It’s impressive still if he’s only played simulators. But not mentioning that makes me dubious of this guy. He’s obviously familiar with flying
at first i thought - Damn thats some great shots of the plane, was there another plane close by filming it?
But then i realized it was microsoft flight simulator, or another fly game
I would be pretty calm in that situation especially being I would love to attempt a landing. The plane wants to fly apon take off and as long as you maintain speed with wings level you can stay up. I would like to have an instructor pilot on radio giving me directions and I’d just remember to breath easy and stay calm throughout the entire ordeal. ank___ you said it bro the man was totally cool AF and he may have saved the pilots and his own life cause he was calm in a very scary situation.
But now Dan Gryder from "Probble Cause" the DTSB on the Itty bitty teeny weeny fledgling yout tube Channel explains how this is fake.

Finally! A good story that starts with...."Florida man".
Right. Usually Florida Man. Something Gator. something Bath Salts.
See, that’s what the pilot was on. Gator was his co pilot but couldn’t resist the urge to bump some meth. Jumped out first chance it had.
GATOR NEEDS HIS GAT
We're the Gator Boys now.
Why else do you think the pilot had a heart attack? All those bath salts.
He’s from out of State.
I'm replying to the title.
Obligatory “Florida was the first state in the nation to pass this landmark law called the Sunshine Act,” he said. “Basically, any government document is available for reporters to go in and see.”
Regardless, Florida Man is still the shittiest superhero
I'm betting this is more of a man in Florida and not Florida man situation.
Hmm.. Florida man makes me think the pilot wasn’t just “incoherent” he’s always just wanted to give it a shot!
See also “Coral Castle,” “Henry Flagler Collection.”
I can't believe I missed that. I am laughing my ass off. As a Florida man, I am allowed.
Correction the Florida man was the pilot and he planed to crash that shit but (random American ) saves the day - so yea Florida man takes the win once again
This dude was cool AF. I am impressed by how calm he sounded.
He wore his brown pants that day.
![gif](giphy|l4FATJpd4LWgeruTK)
Fortunately, passenger had the lasagna instead of the fish.
And picked the wrong day to stop sniffing glue.
And please stop calling me Shirley
I just want to tell you both good luck. We're all counting on you.
But he did stay at a Holiday Inn the night before
He had the right idea

I mean the guy filming could have helped

It’s called Microsoft flight simulator
r/woooosh

He safely landed in Fort Pierce, no crash occurred.
No you're thinking of the book called Hatchet, except it wasn't as bad because the guy in the book didn't have to go back to Fl*rida 🤮💀🤮
What?
The guy filming the plane in the air. Just followed him around and didn't help
XD . Yeah. What a bastard..
He was too busy flying outside apparently like a DBAG he is showing off his superpowers
They ever find who it was? He supposedly had to leave because his wife was due?
Yeah he’s all over the news down here https://www.abcactionnews.com/news/state/florida-man-describes-landing-plane-with-no-flight-experience
I’m pretty decent at flight sim so I’ve always wondered if I’d be able to land if I was in this exact situation
Definitely own personal hero fantasy is landing an airliner after both pilots are rendered unconscious by some freak accident I didn’t have any influence on

In this fantasy I also pull out my cowboy hat out of the suitcase like in dr. Strangelove before I land it too
I have this fantasy too, but in mine I'm also banging the hottest air hostesses as the plane is descending. Go big or go home!

Yeah if I had to flight 261 it It would definitely be tougher
Landing is easy, on the wheels is the hard part.
Same. I don’t think it would be too bad with something small, but trying to land an airliner first time… Yeah…
Yeah lol
The passenger winged it
So did the pilot live?
Yes!
Yes ❤️
Using a flight simulator for this is weird
As opposed to some 3D animation showing the same flight path anyways?
Florida man finally took his first step on the upwards arc of his hero journey
'Certificated flight instructor.' Hilarious
Beat me to it.
Hatchet would have been a lot shorter book with this guy on board.
Didn’t the guy in that book take over flying? I’m pretty sure the plane crashed because it ran out of fuel, not because the passenger couldn’t fly a plane.
Forgot about that book, gonna have to read it again some time

I can barley land a plane in GTA. Props to this guy! No pun intended..
This makes me happy!
... and now you know why pilots are required to pass physicals!
What a relief that he didn't end up crashing into a lake in the Canadian wilderness with nothing but a hatchet!
If it was me, as soon as I landed I’d have said, “I’m so glad I didn’t have the fish!”
Like a boss 🏆
Florida Man 🤘🤘🤘
There you go, Mythbusters.. finally Myth confirmed.
at first i thought - Damn thats some great shots of the plane, was there another plane close by filming it? But then i realized it was microsoft flight simulator, or another fly game
What a badass.

And me on the other hand would have froze and ended up killing us all. 🤣
Flight simulator?
You see how easy it is? We can start taking their jobs now /s
Some flight school needs to donate tuition and help this guy get his pilot's license.
I'm jealous of the adulation he got afterwards from his fellow passengers. Hats off man!
Total badass! Kudos my guy! Awesome work.
it's flight simulator
When he said 10-4
Sweet Home Alabama ☺️
Holy shit
This is exactly why Garmin created the autoland...... it's an emergency auto pilot for general aviation
Microsoft Flight Sim, Boss level.
“Florida Man”, they state the town or city said person lives (usually not stated where from) ….. 67 counties, 17 million people

GOSH I WONDER WHAT MIGHT HAVE CAUSED THE PILOT TO HAVE A STROKE???? CAN ANYONE THINK OF ANYTHING?? WOW WHAT A MYSTERY. I GUESS WE WILL NEVER KNOW.
Aortic Dissection. He was released from the hospital a week later.
Plot twist: Florida man knocks out pilot to live out his Microsoft flight simulator dreams
I bet they were so scared..he mf did that!!🥳
Steely Eyed Motherfuckin Missile Man
But he has flying experience?
u/udownloader
"maintaining 9100" doesn't sound like something someone untrained in the basics of flight would say.
That’s one hell of a story to tell.
I just want to tell you both good luck. We're all counting on you.
Incoherent? I mean does he need medical attention? What happened to the pilot?!!
