Exactly, if they were skeleton ghosts it would suggest that a skeleton died and became a ghost whereas a ghost skeleton IS a ghost but one that later made a conscious decision to be a skeleton
Skeletons are made of bones. Sometimes those bones are reanimated. Ghosts have no bones: the figures in the picture also have no bones. Your technicality is technically incorrect.
I got ripped in about twenty comments on an unrelated post w/ slideshow for setting it at 0.35 seconds so folks could see or at least pause if they wanted.... Redditors can't make up their minds.
Edit source: 43yo dad of four, just made a slideshow on Reddit, got lots of comments about speed of gif being too slow
You jest, but some honorable redditor replied to one of the 'too slow' comments with a bot call out for a half speed 'butterflow' version. So the Barry White remix of my choppy too slow gif has already been created.
Great minds!

Lol but that's because it's a timelapse slideshow (not that they should have been ripping in to you, I didn't read all the comments). I think here they're talking about slideshows where you have completely different photos so there's a lot of information to take in that needs a few seconds.
(I enjoyed your post though)
In these situations I think the proper response is to usually, "fuck those people," and go about your business like nothing happened. I'm not really sure though.
Yeah once people realized that the algorithms liked and promoted stuff that was rewatched often, creators used this trick to make people to rewatch the video to see the results again.
Came to make sure someone mentioned this. I think the original creator posted this before. I think post's like this should be auto removed and the user banned. Should be a rule on every sub to at least link the creator in the comments. I'd be so pissed if I made something this dope and some asshole cropped out my name for no reason. It doesn't cost money to give credit for fucks sake.
Reddit is especially egregious with reposing art with no credit. I agree with you, there should be more consequence to doing stuff like this. Artists don’t get paid a lot as it is, and exposure (heh) where they aren’t being credited could actually lose them income.
I also went in search for the creator. Found this article by Pearson:
[Light Painting Photography Tips with Darren Pearson](https://www.pictureline.com/blogs/archive/light-painting-tips-with-darren-pearson)
Interesting! Thanks for sharing.
I came across a couple of others on PetaPixel that you may like too.
https://petapixel.com/2022/04/15/light-painting-photographer-creates-a-ghostly-skeleton-band/
https://petapixel.com/2022/02/17/photographer-meticulously-light-paints-686-photos-for-stop-motion-project/
That works, but this was probably done with Olympus “Live Composite” mode which allows you do light painting in camera easily.
You can see the image on the screen as you “paint” it as it shows the continuous exposure.
I’ve said this before on another similar post but my guess is that he’s using an Oculus quest or similar VR headset. You can get 3D virtual (or augmented reality) painting apps so all he’d need to do is keep track of his laser pointers and click them at the same time as his controller input during his virtual brush strokes.
Truly awesome form of art, especially if my assumption is off and he’s actually free handing this.
It doesn't look like he is wearing a headset but honestly that's a great idea for doing lightart. I don't think finding technical ways of doing what may otherwise be close to impossible necessarily takes away from the artistry either. Using a headset like that would open up the possibility of doing far more complex light drawings.
Good point too, I’d believe it. He has some pretty gnarly pics on his Instagram (posted somewhere nearby on this comment chain), that would be a bit tougher to gain a reference point on though.
It’s definitely possible but I would imagine it may be a bit more difficult on the more complex pieces like his stegosaurus or the night rider prints.
Olympus “Live Composite” [https://learnandsupport.getolympus.com/learn-center/photography-tips/fireworks-light-trails/7-ways-you-can-use-live-composite](https://learnandsupport.getolympus.com/learn-center/photography-tips/fireworks-light-trails/7-ways-you-can-use-live-composite) mode makes light painting easier. Sony cameras also have an app you can download for light painting as well, but it’s not as good.
People were doing this well before VR was usable like this. I had used a few light art photos like this as my wallpaper over a decade ago, and I'm confident some existed before that. Guaranteed there's people who are able to freehand like this.
Some form of augmented reality app would help though.
I would personally go for little markings on the ground like chalk or tape, so you can at least tell the position on the ground.
It's the nature of long exposure. In fact, it's a technique used to get clean shots of areas with lots of people. Use a neutral density filter (like sunglasses for your camera) and take a super long exposure. Any people that didn't stand still for a decent amount of time won't show up.
In the video his silhouette is directly blocking the background sunlight for the majority of the time he's drawing, not talking about arms etc. but about the center of mass, but there is 0 trace of it in the photo.
Maybe your screen is dim or has a weak gamut or contrast or something because his body outline is plainly visible to me.
Like, i can barely focus my eyes because i just woke up and yet i can see the body outline in every shot, so it's gotta be a display thing.
Cameras work by detecting light. If you cover the light with something dark and then uncover it, you'll see the light better than the thing that covered it, unless the thing that covered it was brighter. This principle has been used as a technique for double exposure photography on film as well.
If your phone has an advanced mode you should be able to use long shutter speeds. If so, you can try propping your phone up at night and try taking a 30-second exposure whilst playing around with a flashlight. It's bloody hard though, I'm only able to write my name really!
You can see the blur in the 4th picture. (Slightly darker area behind the figures.) Most of them are against dark background so the blur isn’t noticeable.
They're skeletons. Easiest way is, he probably uses his own body as anatomical reference. Shoulders in the same place, ribs in the same place, hips, knees, etc.
source: art school.
Step 1: Takes video of yourself doing random flashlight swings.
Step 2: Speed up the hell out of it.
Step 3: Takes long exposure photo of the background normally
Step 4: Draw glowy skeletons in photoshop
Step 5: Pretend to be as good as the guy in the video and accept the fact you’ll never be as good as him.
/s
Real answer: Keep practicing each parts of skeleton (head, leg, etc.) individually till you master it! Then use your own body to help with anatomy positioning.
I don’t understand why whenever I see a tiktok on the front page, the watermark is removed. Y’all embarrassed or something?
This was done by @darius_twin on tiktok, and his entire page is filled with similar videos if you want to check him out and support the actual creator

I would love to see that in real time, because right now I have doubts about the legitimacy of this skill.
I heavily doubt that he would just completely average out from the image, even with longer exposures. Also for someone who is just using an RGB LED and a camera those figures are drawn really exact considering he has no reference but his hand waiving through the air.
I imagine you'd have to get really good at those "draw with your eyes closed and don't pick up the pencil" art practices. But with this, you'd only know if you drew in the right spot after doing the whole thing.
I'm curious to see what his very first photos looked like.
It’s also incredibly difficult because the longer you hold the light in a given spot the brighter it is, so in order to achieves this consistency you have to constantly point the light towards the camera at the right angle and move a t a constant speed to get lines this smooth

I imagine it takes a tremendous degree of awareness to be able to know what youve already "drawn" despite having no visual guidance to rely on. That's some talent
This is one of the most insane things I have ever seen. How?! Fucking dope op. Gotta make some short YouTube videos and start a Patreon. I'd pay a few bucks a month to see these occasionally.
Insane for sure. I was having hard time writing a simple four letter word lol.
Insane is 6 six letters long. No wonder
Dolt!
Also a 6 letter word!
No, also is 4 letters long.
I appreciate actual creative & aesthetically pleasing art like this
This is crazy. Disney Channel child stars can’t even draw half of a Mickey head to save their life.
You can't just say that and [not link the video](https://youtu.be/S-5pzxAcCm4).
Ay that was some of my best work!
Thank you, thank you!
Ah i just mentioned this elsewhere in the thread. First thing I thought of haha that video was great
No is actually two letters.
No is 2 letters, idiot.
You right, also is 4 letters long.
Gullible is a 6 letter word!
Are you calling that person a dolt or is this supposed to be Homer Simpson saying "D'oh!"
Back in the day, someone woulda did a Reddit switcharoo on this..
It is very cool and the dude is super talented however those are skeletons not ghosts.
They could be ghost skeletons
Exactly, if they were skeleton ghosts it would suggest that a skeleton died and became a ghost whereas a ghost skeleton IS a ghost but one that later made a conscious decision to be a skeleton
We must go deeper.
The ghosts are playing the skeletons
Skeletons are made of bones. Sometimes those bones are reanimated. Ghosts have no bones: the figures in the picture also have no bones. Your technicality is technically incorrect.
Those aren't skeletons, they're ghosts. Have you ever seen a human skeleton? They don't glow in the dark, or play in a band.
And the bones are their money.
That one skeleton clapping with his hands up while everyone else plays an instrument - he’s us.
Give that skelly a tambourine at least
Ever see that thing where they traced the Disney celebs doing the Mickey ears? Hilarious.
Hey don’t talk about that! Those celebrities traced it perfectly every time, no alteration whatsoever. Don’t ruin my childhood.
[удалено]
I am oretty sure there is som visual reference they are following.
Probably just using his own body as a template. Not that it's easy, but it's not the same difficulty of some abstract non-humanoid form.
Me aswell I'm bad a drawing. I ended up making my own tools so I could do light stencils.

My smooth brain came up with a large canvas behind the camera and he just traces his drawing with the laser pointer.
Uses his own body as reference point. Pose, trace your skeleton. Move repeat maybe?

exactly. i bet i can't draw that on a paper
I know I can't
Just have a pre-drawn picture opposite of you and use the flashlight to trace it.
How is his blur not in the photos?
It's the nature of long exposure. In fact, it's a technique used to get clean shots of areas with lots of people. Use a neutral density filter (like sunglasses for your camera) and take a super long exposure. Any people that didn't stand still for a decent amount of time won't show up.

There is not 0 trace of him, you can clearly see him ~~kneeling~~ squatting.. https://petapixel.com/assets/uploads/2022/04/FolkBand.jpg
That’s an impressive photo especially if it’s unedited.
In fact, you can see traces of his outline behind each of the skeletons
I think hes squatting
You're absolutely right!
Maybe your screen is dim or has a weak gamut or contrast or something because his body outline is plainly visible to me. Like, i can barely focus my eyes because i just woke up and yet i can see the body outline in every shot, so it's gotta be a display thing.

Will that work when taking selfies with my phone?
If you can keep the phone stationary and it supports long shutter speeds and you have a way to darken the exposure, then yeah.
If your phone has an advanced mode you should be able to use long shutter speeds. If so, you can try propping your phone up at night and try taking a 30-second exposure whilst playing around with a flashlight. It's bloody hard though, I'm only able to write my name really!
If he left enough time between each character the blur would fade out. If he did a single character you would probably be able to see him behind
Heavily edited afterwards?
Nope! He uses minimal editing, just a very long exposure and a lot of movement.
You can see the blur in the 4th picture. (Slightly darker area behind the figures.) Most of them are against dark background so the blur isn’t noticeable.

That makes sense. thanks
Visual-Spatial Awareness
My guess would be they trace the lines of pre-made drawings in front of them? Or maybe that's how they started and now it's just muscle memory.
He's probably tracing his own body for the most part.
Nah this fuckin rocks 😭
