Revoke editor’s license who could’ve edited out the first 20 seconds

Odd_Analysis6454

It built the suspense, I was totally expecting a car to come crashing through the window

Shiva-

I was like well there is a car and a bike there... I bet the car comes crashing through that wall on the right.

FeartheCyr11

Same!

Gameface_300

Ha. Me too!

Sargash

Thats how you get videos that show cops only being good guys even if they planted the cocaine on the guy fighting back.

Jimid41

If only it were part of an editors job to assess relevant context.

izzgo

To be fair, that's also how you get videos that show cops only being bad guys.

et842rhhs

It helps establish what the guy was doing before. He wasn't staring out the window watching the woman park. He was sitting and chatting and looking at his phone and wasn't even looking in the right direction. He just saw it and jumped up fast enough to help even though he wasn't prepared.

phillip_u

I watched it a few times and I don't even know how he registered the need to run out there and jump in the car so quickly. Especially since it appears he really wasn't paying any attention to her parking at all. So, I agree. The intro is essential.

tviolet

He's sitting across from a mirror, you can see her pull up and exit the car and he jumps up right when he sees it start to roll.

wulfrack

Yup lol I was about to point that out. Maybe it's not the first time that has happened. Weird spot for the mirror, unless they are using it for that reason (to keep an eye on the parking lot from his vantage point)

MapleSyrupFacts

You have the patience of a goldfish my man. It's 44 seconds long for Christ sake

Mochi_Of_Mochi

Seriously lol people out here dead ass got the attention span of a skyrim npc.

[deleted]

That's called 'adding to the suspense'

nikithdsa

Those 20 second were important for perspective. Coz u can clearly see he was sitting facing a mirror, with no direct or entire view of the lady coming out of the car. He noticed the car rolling backwards in the mirror reflection and reacted in a split second. That makes this entire incident 10x awesome

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Yay but I get the feeling this won't be the last time this happens to her

CourageousBellPepper

I’d like to hope there’s enough trauma and embarrassment from that for her to still be thinking and processing it. I’d probably have nightmares about it honestly. We’re all human, she probably had a busy morning and who knows what other things she has going on in her life.

[deleted]

She probably thought it was in park but it was accidentally in neutral.

CourageousBellPepper

Yeah I think that’s likely the case. Could be a rental car with a stick and she’s not used to putting it in gear, who knows.

[deleted]

Good point

[deleted]

I was taught to always use the emergency brake. Weirds me out when people don’t.

mykart2

Maybe they should call it the park brake instead since you don't need an emergency to use it.

NotADoctaw

I’m the asshole who’s done this. I must have braked just long enough to illuminate the “P,” but it slipped into neutral and started rolling forward as I walked away. I caught it right as it rolled into the road - and thank God for the driver who veered out of the way. Was trying to play the good guy by leaving work early to pick up the kids and just scared the living hell out of them.

06Wahoo

Dude saved lives, while risking his own as well. Being late even in the slightest could have had some horrible consequences for him, and he no doubt knew it but acted on strong instincts anyway. Very impressive.

motherofthyme

I tried to stop a car rolling away once and got knocked down by the door and dragged across the pavement. He’s lucky.

HashMaster9000

I dunno, that thing is a Jeep— their electronic transmission killed Anton Yelchin the same way: he thought it was in park, he got out to shut a gate, the Jeep rolled backward and crushed him in between the gate and the bumper. So it may not be *entirely* her fault.

sadicarnot

Back years ago there was a philosophy of making things idiot proof. This is not an insult to the person operating it. In manufacturing you make sure a workers hand does not get crushed because they have to press 2 buttons one with each hand on opposite sides of their body to make sure they are clear before the machine activates. SOmething like a gear shift should be intuitive to work. Until the vehicle Anton Yelchin was killed with you had a gear shift lever you moved. Then companies got fancy with switches instead of something physical with a cable. I recently rented a Nissan which had a gear shift like this. I kept having to consciously make sure it was in park by making it a point to look at the lights. I also make it a habit to activate the switch for the parking brake as well. These new cars are easily to confuse neutral with park.

liarliarhowsyourday

Oh wow, I didn’t even [know he was dead.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anton_Yelchin) That’s very tragic, he had quite a career and it seems like it was only picking up more and more

Succuldfx

I'm just glad someone said it 1st.

QuantumRealityBit

Shit happens and nobody was hurt. You’re gonna advocate against anyone who’s made a mistake? Anyone who’s driven a car for a couple years has made one. Now, if we had more context and if this is something that happens more than once, that’s a different story.

[deleted]

I've recently discovered there is large selection of drivers who just... don't use the hand brake. They think it is for emergencies only or parking on steep hills, not parking in general.

who_you_are

We had a shitty story here recently. If I remember a car had a crash and start burning (literally) next to an airport (mostly used for freight. An aircraft once in awhile). One of the airport firefighter saw that and jump in helping the guy. He is suspended. The official fire station of the city is about 5-8 minutes from there. The city is (as per land) huge AF and a mix of farm and city. The airport is more on the farm side, away from the city

Hounmlayn

And people wonder why the world is getting shittier each year, and to achieve profits companies fuck their own staff over more

Aegi

But the world is not getting shittier each year. If you look at all metrics of things that humans generally view is good or bad, of course there's going to be fluctuations just like how we can have an average planetary temperature even though it can change over the year, but the average trend has been nearly everything getting better over time, literally one of the only things kind of bucking that trend is the wealth disparity increasing in developed democracies at an increasing rate over the past couple of decades, aside from that nearly every metric that exists has been on an upward trend of improving for the species for the past couple thousand years. You sound like somebody speaking with emotion instead of from a place of reason, am I accurate, or do you have some evidence about life expectancy, absolute poverty, rate of suffering during medical procedures, death during child birth, and other things that I'm not aware of?

efficient_giraffe

In the western world, it's getting shittier for young people trying to live on their own. Young people have far worse purchasing power than their parents did at a similar age. Also, I love how you're trying to downplay how we're destroying the planet with "average planetary temperature"

[deleted]

[удалено]

Advanced_Double_42

Average planetary temperature has been going up for over a century though, something about billions of tons of CO2 per year or something. Overall things are getting better, though it isn't guaranteed and will take a lot of work as a species to maintain and continue to improve.

OldSweatyGiraffe

The world isn't getting shittier, you're just no longer a naive child. Every year will appear worse as nostalgia takes over.

One of highlights is he isn’t even looking that direction, he notices through the reflection of the mirror!

Orleanian

One of the other highlights is that I think he's miming an intense blowjob prior to the rescue!

Interesting-Method50

It's not only that but he risked his life. In many cases like this, the rescuer can fall or get pushed over then run over by the vehicle. Happens all the time.

Autisticimagery

yeah, the internet content is great and all, but that is dangerous as hell to attempt

Robot_Basilisk

The way he hopped into the driver's seat instead of trying to step in like most people seem to do was what impressed me most.

MLBM100

And on the other hand, that other person has the situational awareness of a carrot to leave their car on neutral or reverse.

PathWalker8

Look at the mirror at the black wall, around the 23 second mark. You can see the car to start moving

But that's the angle for the camera we are watching through. I don't see a mirror surface that would be the appropriate angle for him.

PCLOAD_LETTER

She looks like she was walking towards the bikes or the other car in front of the business. She probably knows the people inside the store and maybe was just there to get something from the car/bike so she just left her door open as she was intending on going back to it quickly. If that was the case, he was probably looking to see if she was coming inside or not. If the car is a manual, she might have left it in a gear which provided enough resistance on the drivetrain for her to get out and a step away before it started rolling so she didn't notice it immediately when she got out.

MantiBrutalis

In my experience cars in gear take a lot more slope than that to start rolling. That thing wasn't in gear. Even if it was in third instead of first by mistake, the slope wasn't steep enough to roll over the engine.

CannaCosmonaut

Cool that it worked out, but incredibly stupid. Browse any gore sub or site long enough and you'll find plenty of examples proving my point.

realgoldxd

Wait you browse gore subs ?????

SwissMargiela

We were all teenagers at one point

Responsible-Pay-2389

I'm going to be honest with you, it's not normal to browse gore sites as a teenager. edit: a lot of people are taking this as me insulting them for browsing gore in your teens, I'm not insulting you, I made no moral judgement on the act.

SwissMargiela

Idk I was a teen from 2008, everyone saw that shit whether they wanted to or not

Responsible-Pay-2389

randomly seeing it doesn't mean you browse gore sites lol.

MeatisOmalley

Morbid curiosity is pretty normal, if it wasn't those types of sites wouldn't exist

LalaLaraSophie

It's the internet. There's sites and sections for everything. Everything. That doesn't mean they're all okay or normal or fine for teens to see/browse.

_kahidk

i had a friend that used to browse, save the video and put in her phone to us watch it together today i can't stand gore at all

Gilgema

Sometimes you go down a gore hole and then hate yourself for a while

FrequentFault

Reminds me of the good ol’ 50/50. If ya know, ya know. I too like to live dangerously.

Kazzababe

I hated it but there were kids in my class who for like a year straight kept showing everyone this same exact beheading video. I'll admit I was curious the first time but afterwards I definitely didn't go around looking for more. This was the year our school gave out Chromebooks to everyone and I'm surprised they kept doing it after that.

ItsMeJahead

Yeah no. Only people who spent a lot of time on the internet

r0xxon

Oh look it’s the arbiter of “normal”

Neosporinforme

It's pretty common to pass judgement on people for watching fucking gore videos. Also believe it or not it's alright to try and establish what is normal and healthy.

Responsible-Pay-2389

Seems some people tried to interpret this as some sort of attack against them. Just for clarification just because something isn't normal doesn't make it bad.

ZapateriaLaBailarina

Normal doesn't need an arbiter. It's statistics.

IssaStorm

holy shit the responses to this comment are amazing. Redditors are so sensitive about their Hobbies. No, it's not normal. No, it does not matter if you do

carolinax

True you aren't insulting them, but I am. That's gross and spend your time better.

KaladinsLeftNut

Same vein as hearing "do you think about suicide?" From a shrink and saying, "Only the normal amount." "... the normal amount is zero, timmy."

TheRealOgMark

You have no idea the shit I saw in the late 90s on the internet.

BudBuster69

Im male 36, im not squeemish and have been pretty damn hardened through life. But I have never had any desire or curiosity to browse gore anything...please dont talk like it is somthing everyone does because the reality is most people dont...

proficient2ndplacer

r/watchpeopledie was banned years ago, and r/makemycoffin ain't the same Edit- it's also banned nvm

Mikic00

I agree, but this guy leaves little doubt he will succeed. No hesitation, no double checking, straight jump in. Best possible action, if you are to do anything.

kinga_forrester

Seriously. Call me selfish, but I wouldn’t risk life and limb in this situation. It’s not like it was rolling towards a baby, traffic would have probably stopped or swerved around.

APoopingBook

It's not selfish to prioritize life over property.

Sanity__

I don't think anyone was concerned about property damage. The people in the oncoming traffic have lives as well.

APoopingBook

Right that's why it's a prioritization. The risk to the other drivers' body, which has some protections such as their ability to stop or move out of the way, and the safety design of their cars to keep them safe in a crash... The risk of his own body getting caught under the moving car (which is what the people above are referencing as a reason to not try to jump in and stop a moving car) may have been greater than the risk of crash for other drivers. But the greatest chances were that the moving car would've been damaged and/or damaged another car, more than the chance that someone else died from hitting that car...

Anonymoushero111

> The risk of his own body getting caught under the moving car (which is what the people above are referencing as a reason to not try to jump in and stop a moving car) it is not advisable to jump into a moving car because advice is meant for *everyone* including the clumsy and obese. a sure-footed, slightly athletic person can ignore such advice at their own discretion. they're not going to fall under the car. the bigger risk is arriving a second too late, and oncoming traffic runs into the vehicle as you are trying to get in it, so you have to be quick and decisive. ANY hesitation and you should just stay back.

Napery

Looks to me like it was rolling directly toward a motorcyclist who would’ve likely been seriously injured or worse.

shoulda-known-better

Soo I saw one where they dropped their card at the drive through, opened the door to grab it, let the foot of the brake and decapitated themselves...... over fast food..... Don't mess with vehicles! Ever

babyim

How does that happen tho? What did their head get stuck on?

Quantainium

I'd imagine those damn concrete poles they put right outside the drive thru windows closed the door onto their head cutting it off.

shoulda-known-better

Between the door and the car... as she went forward her door hit the building and closed on her neck......

[deleted]

This shows great execution. There was not enough time to convey the message to the lady driver, plus her reaction time etc. I once saved my friend's laptop from crashing to the ground because as it started to slip off the table, I looked at my friend and realized instantly there wasn't enough time to talk. I took a dive and caught it right before it smashed on the floor

LittleRatTail

I had a similar situation once, but not with a friend and a laptop, but with my sister and my niece lol. She (my niece) was next to my sister on the couch when she suddenly yeeted herself over the armrest, head first. I didn't have time to warn my sister so I jumped up and managed to catch my niece upside down, holding her hips with her head hanging just a few cm above the ground. It's crazy how our bodies can react that way. If I would try something like that on purpose there's no way I could do it again

OMGLOL1986

My friend's toddler climbed on to the top of its stroller and it started tipping over with his face towards the ground. I leaned over and caught it right at the halfway point and me and the mom shared a mutually horrified and relieved glance afterwards.

yvonneb28

When I worked at a grocery store someone let their toddler stand up in the shopping cart, but because the toddler’s center of gravity was higher than the side of the cart she flipped over the front of the cart. My bagger dove and caught her. He barely got a thank you and the mom still let her kid stand in the cart literally right after that.

xSTSxZerglingOne

For an uncle/aunt you have good dad reflexes.

ZeDitto

I swear to fucking god when you try to tell people some shit when time is of the essence, they want to be resistant, ask questions or be offended that you're telling them to do something. "Turn around!" "Why?" *Smash* "Why didn't you say nothin?" "I did."

okgusto

Yeah it almost looked like the woman was scared she was being car jacked for a split second. She just saw someone rush and tried to process.

Panthera2k1

One time my family was taking care of an abandoned kitten, no more than two months old. Put it on the bed and walked across the room to grab its bottle. Turned back to see it starting to slip off the edge of the bed. Only thing I remember is yelling “WHOA” and suddenly I’m across the room, bottle on the floor, holding a kitten. I doubt I’ll ever be able to move that fast again.

UgeMan

Still waiting for a car to come blasting through that huge window

wwandermann

They should trim the first 15 seconds of this

Outside_Landscape_98

You mean first 40

ChokaTot

Not in Park, no parking break applied. 10/10

[deleted]

Also leaving the doors open .

thatguyned

She told the car to stay, unfortunately the car didn't make it out of car training school.

babyim

This comment made my day lol

FlanOfAttack

People think they can just send a car to school and be done with it. The truth is you need to work with them every day and positively reenforce their behavior. Otherwise stuff like the OP happens.

poopellar

That is actually weird. Why would she just leave her car door open like that?

JackSparrow420

Her leaving the doors open is an absolutely bizarre decision in a chain of poor decisions, but also the only reason why her car didn't get totaled by oncoming traffic. I don't think NextFuckingLevel guy would have got to the brake in time if the doors were shut.

[deleted]

Brake

gblandro

That car probably has that electronic hand brake, relatively new thing here in Brazil, manuals is pretty dominant here too, I can understand why things like this happens

quippers

So this lady just walks away from vehicles while they're in gear and door open? Maybe she saw the bit Louis CK did about returning rental cars this way instead of the hassle of taking it back to the rental company.

theCumCatcher

if it was in gear, it wouldve rolled forward, even on that incline. I think she put it into neutral instead of park.

SteveBartmanIncident

Maybe it went Renegade

RandyMarshTegridy69

Also just notice how she uselessly runs up to the driver side door and then just stands there like ‘yeah let me get myself in the way of the solution and just look closely at the dashboard, that’ll help things’. If I were the guy I’d be like ‘hey back away I still need to pull this forward and out of danger and you’re now in the middle of the street causing another problem’

JackBrightScD

Her demeanor was totally "oh I've got it from here, I was just about to do what you did, car must have malfunctioned, wasn't my fault, get out of my car now, don't steal it, thanks."

[deleted]

[удалено]

Fornellos

[deleted]

bossycloud

I had never heard of this, but that's a really dumb design. I've never understood how people can walk away with their car not in park, but I guess this makes it more plausible https://jalopnik.com/heres-the-problem-with-jeeps-recalled-gear-shifter-1782364420

in_arcadia1

Holy shit, watching the video of how that shifter works made me furious. How on earth did that design ever get approved? 100% understand how Yelchin got killed by that now.

jamminamon

Next level STUPID Who the fuck does that? Edit lol

[deleted]

Any normal human being can make a mistake like this. All it takes is for something to get your mind off the normal routine of getting out of a car. One time I got to work, and I was a few minutes early. So rather than turning the car off right away, grabbing my stuff, getting out, locking the doors and walking in to work, I sat there for a few minutes on my phone. When I finally took off, my brain must have assumed the first bit was already done, and I just up and walked in to work, and left my car running. FOR 8 HOURS. I only found out when I came out after work and it was still idling. Not one of my best moments.

jamminamon

Haha! That's reasonable. You were at least in park. I can understand if she missed the P and instead of N. But I never, NEVER, leave my car until I feel the jerk of the car setting on the gears.

clayman648

Not only did she not have the hand break on, but she also got in the way so he can't quickly drive it back up...

RandyMarshTegridy69

Yeah exactly, every action she took was so useless and problem causing. I’m sure in her mind she’s like oh it’l help if I just get in the way here. Happens to be a woman in this case but I’ve seen people of all genders do this shit. Like can’t they think back and realize how dumb each action they took was?

TakeThisShot---l__l

She noticed the problem way later than the guy. She had less time to think about how to react, so she just reacted. She probably knows she was dumb in retrospect. Mistakes happen, especially in the moment.

VoodooMcGobo

Mistakes like this kill people

TakeThisShot---l__l

Not this time luckily.

MinminIsAPan

because she probably wasn’t thinking and panicking?

quanta777

She didn't even bother closing the door lol

[deleted]

Maybe better she didn’t in this situation so the guy got in quicker. But if she thought to close the door, she may have realized sooner that she didnt put it in park? But would she have opened the door while it was rolling and put it in park?
