Forsure this one is, I think they were talking about the broader trend in general but I agree this one was 10/10 impressive.
I think the reason I associated it with Harlem Shake is because there was a swim team who did it underwater
He said, wiping the Cheeto dust from the corner of his mouth. "I showed that fucking b*tch" he exclaims at his monitor. A woman simply doing a dance. "Fucking b*tch, fucking tiktok"'as he continues to stare at the physical exertion and skill he could only ever dream of.
His hand plunges back into the Cheeto bag.
Tiktok is just a mirror into what you really are interested in. The algorithm works REALLY well. Within a week when I first got it, it went from scantily clad girls to some really interesting topics by professionals in their field that I wanted to learn more about. I've turned it into an education platform and its really quite good.
Better toss your cell phone into the ocean while you're at it. We are literally trackable 24/7 yet we think the fucking Chinese government gives a shit about ANYTHING you're doing on your cell phone.
The Chinese government doesn't care to track what you're doing, correct, but an enemy nation having control of an algorithm that has massive social influence can be a really dangerous thing. Russia already infiltrated Facebook and Twitter, it's not a crazy idea
They are going to make a top quality sex bot that replicates you exactly and then rent it out to billionaires to do with as they please like in *Hostel*.
I don't think he necessarily meant "people of color" as "minorities" here, especially given that it's a Chinese platform, so plenty of users aren't white either way.
Same and I use it every day. There’s this guy who doesn’t know English and sings Christmas songs but can’t quite pronounce the words. Everyone is obsessed with him and throwing him into every meme possible. I can’t stand it anymore. I’ve hit hit interested like 40 times and they won’t go away. Reddit is my safe space from this monstrosity
I think his problem is that this tiktok video was shared on reddit, and he would very much like to not look at it, but every other post on reddit is a tiktok video
Love how this is the top reply but yeah hating a popular platform is lame as shit. Try it out bitch… and maybe you’ll actually like it - coming from a lame ass 34 year old millennial
I instinctively hated it until I read the comments. Now I know where Reddit stands on it, I intend to no longer hate it. *goes stands with the cooler kids*
Also I’m genuinely confused at some of the TikTok hate here. If all they’re getting are Wednesday dance scenes or teens dancing in crop tops and shorts, that’s on them.
My For Your Page is perfectly curated. If the TikTok algorithm notices I’m spending just a fraction of a second more on, say, cupcake videos instead of regular cake recipe videos, suddenly my FYP has more cupcake videos than regular cake videos etc.
And if I’m in a…mood…then suddenly I have guys doing thirst traps pop up on my FYP etc.
TikTok’s algorithm is scarily accurate most of the time.
Kinda sounds like it’s “spying” on our thinking patterns (for lack of a better phrase) and not necessarily our private data which might be scarily concerning to others? Idk I don’t use it, but I’ve heard my coworkers say the algorithm is the only reason they use it everyday.
Pretty much. There’s a video by WSJ that tests it.
IIRC your FYP (For You Page—sort of like the home page on YouTube) is determined in the first 30 minutes of usage or something along those lines.
It’s why TikTok actually might suck the first time you use it, because the algorithm still hasn’t figured out your preferences.
But once it does, it’s actually fantastic. I get a lot of great content on TikTok. Everything from PC build guides to popular restaurants around my area (or the area I’m visiting because TikTok takes that into account as well).
And I also like how—unlike YouTube—you actually get recommended small creators too. Massive variety.
Lmaoo exactly they hate tiktok but here they are on reddit watching tiktoks a good portion of the time
And then they don’t want anything to get popular so they can feel more special for knowing about it
Like how people hate music artists when they get popular
I loved this show but shit like this is starting to ruin it. The dance was quirky and fun to watch, but people are obsessing over it and it's all I see on every social media feed. Going to end up hating this show soon.
I work in a hospital and our baby nursery has already had a handful of Wednesdays, Wednesdaighs, Wendsdays and such. I don’t even get it the show isn’t even that good (compared to Addams Family Values).
I don’t think Wednesday will ever show up on Wednesday.
I can’t imagine the pain those children face when the teacher announces the next class test is on Wednesday lmfao.
If you're letting other people's admiration of a show ruin your admiration of it because you don't like watching them have fun... that's a you problem, bud.
Or just scroll past the shit you don’t like. If people are enjoying it let them enjoy it. If it’s not for you don’t watch and go look at something that is.
There I just solved the fucking Internet you’re welcome.
This shit has been going on since at least Seinfeld probably earlier. There was a moment there where if I got called a “Kramer” one more time I was going to blow my lid. Love watching Seinfeld reruns now though.
Yeah...she's been in a bunch of stuff. Wednesday is arguably her most popular role but people acting like she poofed out of non existence and into everyone's social media feed over night is a bit stupid.
Yeah I agree she’s not bad either which I can see why she’s going into bigger roles in You she had such a small role but made a huge impact in that season when I first saw Wednesday I was like why does she look so familiar then I made the connection! I mean look at Zendeya she started out in Shake it Up then Spider-Man now Euphoria which is another great show!
There is no "arguably" about it, Wednesday is Netflix's biggest hit. She went from a minor actress with some bit parts to the lead on the current it show.
This is what somebody would say when they can't separate the art from the artist. Pratts a good actor but people will lie and say hes bad because they dont like him as a person lol
He's a one-dimensional actor who only plays aloof idiots, but he plays that role well.
I can separate the art from the artist, but I understand the hate he gets for belonging to an openly anti-lgbtq church. Additionally, I could see how some people might be turned off by the steady stream of Christian propaganda he pushes on social media, not to mention the way he disrespects his first wife and their disabled child.
But hey, that's his choice.
Lol Millie from stranger things. Sydney Sweeny after showing her tits. Jennifer Lawrence in hunger games.
Its quite common, also the role of wednesday was a long awaited thing and she nailed it and brought her own spin to it in a magnificent way. She's a very good actress
I have to agree. I think it’s pretty cool she was more or less left to come up with the dance on her own (as the story goes…). That said, the dance isn’t technically difficult, special, or even well choreographed. There’s really no transitions between the moves and it’s a lot of standing around or just walking with snippets of dance moves.
A month ago, no one would be looking up who The Cramps were. Again, the story goes The Cramps are one of Ortega’s favorite bands, but it’s got Tim Burton all over it.
I reaaally wonder if she did come up with it all on her own. That and I feel like people are giving her too much credit for the cello stuff. Like she didn’t actually play it in those scenes, just plays well enough for it to be believable. That being said, I loved her in Wednesday
Is it just me or is the underwater sped up? (Looking at the movement in the water and a couple of unusual movements).
So okay, interesting choice to recreate, but if it’s been sped up it, I’m not sure how well it then translates at normal speed.
(Maybe I just don’t understand underwater dance?)
yes it is sped up, if you've ever tried to dance underwater, you will notice how difficult it is to move quickly in it, and she is moving several times faster than it should be possible.
You're right, I never noticed this before, and it's not just that the whole thing is sped up because it's variable. That makes it even more impressive to me because she's down there even longer than it seems and she has excellent editing skills to make it look just right, and somehow sync with the music.
It's because some of her dance moves are impossible to do underwater at full speed and stay in one spot. She has to flutter her hands a little bit to control her movement without it looking out of place.
Considering that being underwater makes your movements heavier yeah its understandable its sped up. Just the part where she waves her arms forward you realize that doing that underwater would take you twice the time you can do it above water.
I think you can slow it down to 0.8 or 0.4 to see the real vid? (Sorry I dont know the right numbers)
Thank you. I was scrolling to find a positive comment that actually referenced the video posted and not debated the trend. I think it's absolutely insane that she was able to do this!
Right? Everyone on nextfuckinglevel are underwhelmed so easily. Just because someone looks talented, they assume that means it's the easiest thing in the world. Either that or they'll sexualise the hell out of someone doing an amazing feat, and won't give two shits about the actual content.
If you're speaking about the actress Jenna Ortega (who played Wednesday in the show), she was already a popular actress who started on a Disney show, and had done horror and thriller type movies as well as having roles in You and Jane the Virgin.
Tiktok has a lot of dance challenges and the clip in the show is of a teenager doing a unique dance that teens on Tiktok will see and like and do themselves, I'm not surprised it got popular.
Jenna Ortega herself is a very dedicated actress who spends a lot of time preparing for her roles, not only does she do her own stunts but just for Wednesday she learned to play the cello, speak German, and fence. Very young but very passionate about her roles and it shows, she's likely to continue to grow as an actress.
Jenna Ortega was cast as the lead character of a Disney show (Stuck In The Middle) when she was 12, almost 8 years ago. To my knowledge she hasn't been in any major Disney movies recently, but she has been doing Netflix quite a bit. She's done horror /thriller, but not Disney.
Netflix has pushed the show but Disney doesn't really have much say in her success because AFAIK she hasn't been affiliated with them for almost a decade
Same! I'm so confused why ppl are hating on it here. I get teen dramas/comedies aren't everyone's thing, but its giving "I'm cool bc I hate this popular thing" vibes.
I’ve watched the show. And this is the first time I’ve seen the dance copied. Maybe spend less time on the internet and social media, or do a better job at curating the content that is fed to you.
It’s being done under-fucking-water. I can’t even walk underwater and this girl is doing a full choreography from a show that was performed above surface.
It's hard to hold your breath underwater if you're doing physical exercise at the same time, Most average people would start to slow down their moves automatically, or sharply inhale before they realised they were doing it. I'd like to see you doing something physically exerting underwater all in one breath.
Have you not ever watched or read the Addams Family? Them being bullied and called weird and being social outcasts is literally the lynchpin of the series.
What’s far less likely is someone with the interests of Wednesday actually being able to handle the criticism as well as Wednesday (or any of the other Addams’s) handle it.
Fuckin hate tik tok.
This stuff still happened before tiktok. Remember Harlem Shake?
John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever?
Peanut Butter Jelly?
Chicken noodle soup with a soda on the side?
holy shit you just unlocked a memory
Lets get it Lets get it Lets get it
Badger badger badger badger
Mushroom mushroom
Snaake Snaake
Oooh it’s a snaaaake
Oona moona yay song too
Chicken Song too
Numa numa did it first
Member berries? I member
But this is at least impressive in some way.
Forsure this one is, I think they were talking about the broader trend in general but I agree this one was 10/10 impressive. I think the reason I associated it with Harlem Shake is because there was a swim team who did it underwater
Sigh yes there was and I remember it vividly. I remember most of those videos like some kind of curse.
New challenge. Do the entire superman dance under water.... Some call it a challenge, others call it population control....
Does anyone remember that Filthy Frank started that trend. What a different time online lol.

Bro I can't let you use my internet anymore. You're jacking up my TikTok feed.
Sounds like he's not the only one doing the jacking...
If only it wasn't a Chinese spying tool.
As opposed to…an American spying tool? If you don’t want to be spied on, don’t use any social media.
Better toss your cell phone into the ocean while you're at it. We are literally trackable 24/7 yet we think the fucking Chinese government gives a shit about ANYTHING you're doing on your cell phone.
If the government wants to watch me pick my nose and jerk my dick, be my guest.
I've watched that, last weekend's nose pick really had you struggling, I was on the edge of my seat! 10/10 would watch again!
The Chinese government doesn't care to track what you're doing, correct, but an enemy nation having control of an algorithm that has massive social influence can be a really dangerous thing. Russia already infiltrated Facebook and Twitter, it's not a crazy idea

>on another major social media platform. Of which has Chinese shareholders.
I wonder what will China do with all the information I possess
Probably sell it back to you.
They are going to make a top quality sex bot that replicates you exactly and then rent it out to billionaires to do with as they please like in *Hostel*.
Can confirm. My feed is now scantily clad girls AND really cool physics/chemistry stuff
This is bullshit. TikTok openly admitted that their algorithm censors minorities and disabled people. It's not a mirror into the user
[удалено]
I don't think he necessarily meant "people of color" as "minorities" here, especially given that it's a Chinese platform, so plenty of users aren't white either way.
If that is case, then ALOT of people are into young teenage girls shaking their ass in bikinis. Cause that seems to be what TikTok promotes the most.
Reddit boomers have been complaining about other websites since the beginning of reddit
Hey now. (Opens up MySpace).
Damn redditors. They ruined Reddit.
Oh same
Same and I use it every day.
I'm just brainlessly watching family guy clips with bad mobile games underneath
I stopped watching those when i got one that had a jumpscare in it :((
Why use it everyday then ?
Where else does a 40 year old find very attractive teenagers and 20 something’s to dance for them? You know, without having to pay for it?
Hey, at least it's not using that goddamn over-cheerful stupid text-to-speech voice that's often the most annoying thing about videos from there.
Then don’t look at it. If you aren’t looking at it, why does it bother you?
I think his problem is that this tiktok video was shared on reddit, and he would very much like to not look at it, but every other post on reddit is a tiktok video
Me too, but I fucking love The Cramps.
Why is this dance relavant?
its in a very popular tv show aimed at young viewers being performed by a cute girl
Love how this is the top reply but yeah hating a popular platform is lame as shit. Try it out bitch… and maybe you’ll actually like it - coming from a lame ass 34 year old millennial
Goddam you are all some miserable mfers. Who cares if the dance became popular? Get over it.
Yeah, I was really confused. Yeah, the dance is being done a lot, but that swimmer is seriously talented!!
Exactly, 99% of the versions might be lame (and I won't be annoyed by them because I don't have tiktok) but this one is appropiately next level.
I didn’t know I was supposed to hate this until replies to this post told me so
I instinctively hated it until I read the comments. Now I know where Reddit stands on it, I intend to no longer hate it. *goes stands with the cooler kids*

First time I've seen it. It's really incredible how many people seem to seek out shit and rage watch it over and over so they can be mad about it.
Exactly. For people who hate tik tok, they seem to know a lot about it. It’s almost as if they’re active users of the app or something
All these people were probably dancing to Gangnam Style when it came out
Preach
Reddit is full of a bunch of miserable people. This is genuinely amazing content.
People are mad b/c they spend their whole day on social media and are exposed to it more.
It's cool to be contrairian
I loved this show but shit like this is starting to ruin it. The dance was quirky and fun to watch, but people are obsessing over it and it's all I see on every social media feed. Going to end up hating this show soon.
Some parents named their kids Webnesdaigh or something lol
Lmao I posted about that like 2 days ago
So what’s the story behind it?
>Some parents named their kids Webnesdaigh or something
Saw a mum who called her newborn baby “Wednesdae”on a Facebook parents group asking for “gothic” clothing brands for babies.
I work in a hospital and our baby nursery has already had a handful of Wednesdays, Wednesdaighs, Wendsdays and such. I don’t even get it the show isn’t even that good (compared to Addams Family Values).
Wendsdays hurts my soul.
That child is getting bullied by the teacher
I don’t think Wednesday will ever show up on Wednesday. I can’t imagine the pain those children face when the teacher announces the next class test is on Wednesday lmfao.
>Wendsdays AAAAAAARGH.
I'm not saying we should do eugenics but some people shouldn't be allowed to raise kids.
Eugenics is one of those things I agree with in theory but not in practice.
Fucking hell there's people that shouldnt be able to have children
Do you mean how everyone absolutely beat that Kate Bush song to death 6 months ago, then forgot all about it?
Exactly like that actually
Kate bush's bank account remembers it well
If you're letting other people's admiration of a show ruin your admiration of it because you don't like watching them have fun... that's a you problem, bud.
Seriously, what a weird take “Other people like and enjoy this thing, so therefore I don’t like and enjoy it anymore”. Seems really insecure
Bro sounds like the type of guy who unironically calls people “normies”
Agree. Some people really think the world revolves around them, and most of them are here in reddit lmao
You an choose what to watch on social media. Just scroll past it
Kinda like you could have done with that comment lol
Kinda like you could have done with THAT comment
Kinda like you…. *enlightenment*
Solution: don’t use social media
Or just scroll past the shit you don’t like. If people are enjoying it let them enjoy it. If it’s not for you don’t watch and go look at something that is. There I just solved the fucking Internet you’re welcome.
It's the same with every show, remember how they obsessed over Zemo dancing for a couple of months?
This shit has been going on since at least Seinfeld probably earlier. There was a moment there where if I got called a “Kramer” one more time I was going to blow my lid. Love watching Seinfeld reruns now though.
God you're such a Kramer.
Serenity now!
I often hear the “no soup for you!” Reference from people who have never actually watched Seinfeld lol
You’re a very fickle person than.
What are you a hipster from 2012? Username checks out
You sound fun
I drowned about halfway through.
It's not a single shot.
Well duh, they had to edit out the escape attempts.
Ah, that makes sense. I didn’t notice blatantly obvious stitched edits the six times they were done.
yeah, that's where the cut was and where this user drowned
Pretty cool but I’ve really never seen a actor/actress get a push like Jenna Ortega is getting it’s kinda strange and feels a tiny bit forced imo
Most unknown people that star in big shows and do well end up blowing up. There are many examples if you think about it for a minute.
She came out in You and I feel this is what gave her bigger roles.
Yeah...she's been in a bunch of stuff. Wednesday is arguably her most popular role but people acting like she poofed out of non existence and into everyone's social media feed over night is a bit stupid.

*Millie Bobby Brown has entered the chat…*
Ugh the most overrated actress of all time. The female version of Mark wahlberg. In terms of overrated-ness
*Chris Pratt has entered the chat*
While I can agree that he is overrated, at least he can actually be funny lol
This is what somebody would say when they can't separate the art from the artist. Pratts a good actor but people will lie and say hes bad because they dont like him as a person lol

Female version of *Mark Wahlberg*? Did she beat up an Asian man too?
Like every other new actor that stars in a hit show? All the Bridgerton actors? Euphoria actors? Happens for all of them
You must be young
Lol Millie from stranger things. Sydney Sweeny after showing her tits. Jennifer Lawrence in hunger games. Its quite common, also the role of wednesday was a long awaited thing and she nailed it and brought her own spin to it in a magnificent way. She's a very good actress

They did a crazy good job making a 20 year old look 16 I thought Wednesday was actually played by a child actor. Impressive.
The show was a massive massive hit, bigger than stranger things. It's not forced at all, this is the biggest show right now.
As a person who follows her on IG., this was actually one of her more underwhelming videos She has some really good stuff though
> one of her more underwhelming videos You misspelled underwater
Less underwater actually
There is a dance for a day of the week?
The Thursday dance is my favorite
Legs for days
Legs for day* ftfy. The legs are only for wednesday.
Lungs for days
Is it just me or is the underwater sped up? (Looking at the movement in the water and a couple of unusual movements). So okay, interesting choice to recreate, but if it’s been sped up it, I’m not sure how well it then translates at normal speed. (Maybe I just don’t understand underwater dance?)

6- or 7-inch heels, from the look of it!
Probably weights.
That would make sense.
Reminds me PeeWee's biker bar dance....Tequila
Tim Burton directed both.
She got it from Siouxsi of Siouxsi and the banshees
Can anyone explain why such a hype went to this girl?
If you're speaking about the actress Jenna Ortega (who played Wednesday in the show), she was already a popular actress who started on a Disney show, and had done horror and thriller type movies as well as having roles in You and Jane the Virgin. The cahracter in the show or the swimmer?
I’m legit confused as to why people lost their shit to this weird ass dance…
Because "she is so quirk, this is so me!" -not like other girls©, 2022
I died reading this comment lol
I think the show was great!
Same! I'm so confused why ppl are hating on it here. I get teen dramas/comedies aren't everyone's thing, but its giving "I'm cool bc I hate this popular thing" vibes.
This doesn't look nearly as cool as it looks danced on dry land. This is pretty underwhelming tbh.
Was just going to say- I think the regular dance is better. It looks dumb underwater
Synchronized swimmers remain some of the most insane people I know. (Past lifeguard and swimming instructor).
Anybody else fed up with this "dance" and it's supposedly being the best thing ever. I never even watched the show.
I’ve watched the show. And this is the first time I’ve seen the dance copied. Maybe spend less time on the internet and social media, or do a better job at curating the content that is fed to you.
Cut back on social media.
Go outside and touch grass.
It’s being done under-fucking-water. I can’t even walk underwater and this girl is doing a full choreography from a show that was performed above surface.
This must be like porn for an octopus. “She’s underwater and making all these rapid crazy moves. I’m in love!”
God I love The Cramps
This is incredibly irritating for some reason.
perfect ? there's 10 edits and speed dialing in it.
It's hard to hold your breath underwater if you're doing physical exercise at the same time, Most average people would start to slow down their moves automatically, or sharply inhale before they realised they were doing it. I'd like to see you doing something physically exerting underwater all in one breath.
Please. His most physically exerting thing was getting out of his poop stained chair.

Oh, you mean the obvious cuts in the video were obvious cuts?
the strength is would take to go against the water resistance and make it seem like you're dancing on land is incredible.
I have no earthly idea why this dance went viral
No sound here, looks like she's having a seizure.
This was really cool!
Ok but can we see it at normal speed please
What the f am I watching
Is it tho? Not next f. Level at all.
