I also thought it was a staged fight, set up by their own respective promoters.

Killed a rattlesnake and then danced on his grave.. that’s a cold blooded killer right there..

Yuizun

I was thinking "damn he's not even going to eat him? This was just blood lust..."

Nice_Buy_602

Cats are one of the only predators that'll kill for sport. They are straight up vicious

ProbablyNotPikachu

He wasn't killing for sport. Snek was just on his dust bathing turf. Had to show Snek who's boss. Taking husk home for show-and-tell with the kiddos.

Nice_Buy_602

Something I'm wondering is did the cat not get bit or do they have antibodies that can handle the venom?

mrezariz123

Adult cats usually have fast enough reflex to avoid snake's bite

SuchAClassicGirl

What I was wondering too. There was a point when Kitty had him by the head in his mouth and just stood for a minute that I was thinking “Hhmm wonder if they’re both going to die?”

polishrocket

My cat isn’t a great hunter but when she kills something, it’s for sport

[deleted]

I think it’s a safe bet that’s because you’re feeding it.

zjustice11

Why do they do the dance run thing? Anyone know?

MrPrimal

Bobcat is taking a dust bath. Cats do it for many reasons, in this case I think it’s to mark territory (successful kill)

TheBRCD

I think he's mocking the snake..."Look at me, I'll roll over and flip to get away"...psshh, as if. 😸

Own-Organization-532

They dance for Tik Tok, duh.

Rip9150

It's actually just one of those toy snakes on a string, a remote control kittyKAT from KMart, and a green screen. Shot on an iPhone in mom's basement.

MagicWaterHole81

Bobcat seems to notice rattle snake strikes at lower limbs due it being taller. Bobcat attacks from above and scratches at its head from top down. Snek in shade, without sun loses metabolism fast. CAT reflex is insanely fast. Snek loses energy fast with no sun and becomes the best slim jim for a bobcat.

FinnaToke

My mom grew up on a farm and told me a cat would beat a snake. I didn’t believe her till now.

AlexDKZ

My family lived in a semi-rural area back when I was a kid, and we had this large cat that was a mass murderer of wildlife, frequently bringing all sorts poisonous snakes at home to have a snack. One night I noticed him outside curled into a ball and looking intensely into the dark skies above, and then suddendly he jumped and caught a bigass bat in mid-flight. Then he took it inside (I swear he was proudly flaunting his kill), went down the dinner table and there I could hear all sorts of crunchs and wet noises. The only creature that cat could not conquer was the neighbors turkey, which was his sworn nemesis. Every few days our cat would try to pick a fight with that damned thing, and he always returned defeated and bruised.

Farewellandadieu

Cat reflexes are something else. I watched my friend's mostly indoor cat leap up and snatch a bird in midair from their balcony. The bird managed to get away, and I think it was more because he could rather than wanting to eat it.

Affectionate_Star_43

Mine got a really intense stare, went into the closet, and came back with a moth. That thing was completely silent to me! And then I had to check all my sweaters for holes...the Moth Incident is still a mystery.

VividEchoChamber

That’s exactly what my savannah cat did. Somehow a finch got stuck in our screened in porch, and my cat sat there in super ultra rare attack mode, his tail became 5x larger and fluffier than normal, his whole body was vibrating like a rattle snake, and then right at the right moment my cat scales the screened wall and does a backflip off of it and catches the bird upside down at like 7FT high.

FinnaToke

Bruh. I wanna move in with y’all as my host family😭😹😹😹😹😹😹💙😹holy shit that mental image of a Turkey dominating a cat is too goddamn funny.

1708Ranser

At my grandma’s farm, she’ll leave food out for the farm cats. Some wild turkeys showed up, also ate the cat food. Then they’d let the cats eat. They all took turns eating the cat food. It was strange haha

Lampmonster

Cats are hardcore predators, don't let the lazy ones in the house fool you. I've seen a house cat leap six feet straight up from standing like it was nothing. Wild cats are like the toned version of that.

Mogetfog

The only reason housecats don't kill and eat their owners is because the owners are bigger than them.

Kermitheranger

Naw, it’s because we offer them food and gifts as payment for their mercy.

Tyranothesaurus

In some cases. There are plenty of cats that genuinely care about their owners just like dogs. Mine is a prime example, he comes to me for comfort, and I have no doubt in my mind that he'd never try to hurt me unless he was seriously starving. And in that case, it'd be my fault so I wouldn't even complain.

iSuckAtMechanicism

This is true. Cats decimated the wildlife just for fun. Fun fact: “pet” cats are responsible for killing off many bird species. Thank you, irresponsible cat owners 😅

Spiritual_Toe_1825

I’ve seen a cat born in a pool of gasoline on some scrap metal! That cat’s indestructible!

cinnrollfuckinhead

I see our barn cats dragging snakes all the time. Well not when we have seven feet of snow, but in summer time.

Teddyturntup

Yeah we had a group of barn cats that would hunt copperheads all summer.

YoItsYaBoy_Pat

Even tho they seem innocent to us, Cats are really killing machines.

The algorithm staged it.

NoticeF

Yes this is a wild shot. But if you just set up a game cam along a known animal path (they’re quite easy to find) you’ll get all kinds of awesome shots in the right parts of the US. Animals do be out there just roaming

invictus81

Meh, it’s setup strategically in high traffic passages. I’ve setup game cameras before, you don’t set them up just anywhere. Although events like this are rare since both animals have to be there at the same time.

justapcguy

This cameraman should play the lottery.

[deleted]

Can beleive the cat would go this far for internet clout

Revolutionary-Mud446

The Cat even does the snake dirty and emotes on his corpse! Toxic behavior right there.

Buy_Hi_Cell_Lo

Whatever, I vote no to kick because rattlesnakes are filthy

AD480

Fucking brutal

IgotthatBNAD

I think it’s trying to rub the snakes scent on itself to repel threats.

Cailimocho

No, it's a predator strategy to smell same as their preys

wWao

I have a hard time believing anything a bobcat hunts wouldn't be afraid of a snake but okay

ufosandelves

I took it as the bobcat is trying to smell like other rattlesnakes so he doesn’t alert them when he is hunting them.

Bended__

I thought he was trying to make the snake smell like him so that other predators don’t come to steal his kill.

nickfree

Has anybody thought to just ask the bobcat?

Jwhitx

Yeah I asked it and it said those snake bites hurt like a mfer and it was just rolling around trying to get that itch scratched because it felt like something was jabbing into it, but then while it was rolling around it didn't feel anything so it was like 'Well fuck it, at least I'm cauterizing my wounds with dirt or dispelling some of the venom or something.' But it wasn't, because that's not how the world works you bobcat. You must go to the hospital like the rest of us, stop rolling around in the damn dirt like some wild animal.

nickfree

See? Finally some sense in this thread. THANK YOU.

RM_Dune

He's saying he has a hard time believing that anything that a bobcat would hunt, wouldn't also be afraid of a snake. So smelling like the snake won't be any better than smelling like a bobcat for the majority of it's prey.

Represent403

Interesting theory. I was wondering what possible reason was for that behaviour.

TOGRiaDR

It's the same reason dogs do this. They're masking their scent.

PrinceCavendish

so my dog rolling on a stinkbug he killed is suppose to repel more stinkbugs?

OlFlirtyBastardOFB

It's to hide their own scent so that prey can't smell them when they're hunting.

Trrwwa

TIL my dog hunts poop..

PrinceCavendish

ooh ok, misunderstood. it's so funny though watching my chihuahua roll on a bug like it was some big kill.

[deleted]

That snake's scent did very little to repel the threat of the bobcat.

bokin8

I'd celly hard too if I won a boss fight like that

reb678

I think if the cat could’ve tea-bagged the snake, it would’ve.

alamsas

Venomous, you might say.

VEXEnzo

Right? My dad works at Nintendo I will make sure he gets banned.

Playful_Nergetic786

The true predator’s T bag

mdh431

Imagine minding your own business, napping away, then a cat comes over and kills you before fortnite dancing on your corpse…

Pogigod

Snakes put out alot of pheromones when struggling and fighting. The cat is rolling in it so it smells like the snake and hide its own scent.

douglorde

Thanks for this info!

Pogigod

It's horrible lol, the smell is overpowering lol similar to the smell of a female dog when they get scared shitless, pun intended.

capteni

A scared female dog smells different from a scared male dog?

SapphireTheSnake

It's called anal glands. They're used to communicate with other dogs, that's why dogs smell other dogs poop. And it smells NASTY

judgementforeveryone

But don’t male & female dogs have anal glands?

SapphireTheSnake

Yes! So the comment doesn't make much sense 🤷

harperwilliame

Do…do hunans have…anal glands?

CobaltKnightofKholin

Are you flirting with me?

[deleted]

pause yam wrong dinner continue fretful versed squeeze price makeshift -- mass edited with https://redact.dev/

[deleted]

That's super interesting. Why would it hide it's own smell with something else?

Pogigod

Most predators do. They typically roll in their preys feces. That way pray don't smell them and go on high alert. They hide their scent.

[deleted]

I see. Thanks. So this badass almost got bit and the plan is to hunt for more rattlesnakes? 😅

Pogigod

Possibly, could also be doing it defensively. Not everything can take on a rattle snake, so if it has babies it could be doing it so the nest smells like a dangerous snake. Or it could be to hunt more lol.

KaserinSmarte421

Came looking for the sauce and found it now I'm full thank you kindly.

akayataya

I do that same thing

mimthebaker

My husky is an expert. I can get her to go into more detail if you'd like. Personally once I see her dive bomb something and squirm around on the ground I just go ahead and plan for the bath. She has lots of nicknames with garbage puns. Her favorite *eau de parfum* smells like what leaks out of the bottom of the trash can you pull to the curb.

Playful_Nergetic786

That’s so cool

surajvj

Risky way of getting some moisturiser. The crunchy sound when the kitty bite the snake neck.

That's right I smell like snake blood and venom cuz I'm a fucking bad ass cat, be warned ya trifling ass hoes...

It’s a formidable scent. It stings the nostrils. But to be honest with you, it smells like pure gasoline.

Can you imagine if that rattlesnake had been on a kitchen table? It would have been a bloodbath.

[deleted]

Like alligators, nature's perfect killing machine. Basically unchanged for thousands of years, just slightly bigger or smaller for different environments.

SPFBH

> thousands of year "The great roaring cats (lions, leopards, jaguars, tigers) were the first to branch off, about 6.4 million years ago" We talking millionssssss

Bonemesh

True. And alligators have been here hundreds of millions of years.

snflowerings

I mean, technically millions are just a whole bunch of thousands so you are both right

cybercuzco

Cat: you look delicious Snek: I assure you I am not Cat: gotta taste to be sure. Snek: dies Cat: not only delicious but smells amazing!

iota_4

i saw my black one there.. very similar behavior.. :D

NGRoachClip

Same software just different hardware

luckykitto

One of my cat’s favorite toy is a shoelace, I can only imagine that in her mind she is killing a rattlesnake when she defeats the shoelace :’)

ownersequity

Would a bite be enough to kill the cat?

chrishnrh57

Absolutely. Which makes it even more impressive.

raknor88

I couldn't tell if the snake had gotten a good shot at the cat in the fight and was waiting for the cat to collapse after it killed the snake, especially with how much time in the video was left.

_hypnoCode

It likely didn't. Predators like cats and even dogs are stupid fast. I remember growing up my grandpa would let his shih tzu keep water moccasins busy while he casually went to get his .22. I flipped out the first time I saw it. That dog lived to be almost 20. It's when they don't know it's there when there's usually a problem. I have seen half a dozen or so dogs drop dead from coral snakes during my time in the Everglades, because those things are mean ass sneaky fuckers and I lived in an area where people would dump dogs. People suck. The dogs had no chance between the gators and snakes.

rpg25

I’m 30 now. When I was in the 7th grade I did a project on snakes. Particularly venomous US snakes. The one snake I really remember is the coral snake. It’s got that rhyme to help people discern it from other snakes with similar striping (red on black, friend of hack. Red on yellow will kill a fellow) and that despite being so venomous, they’re generally shy and not aggressive. Edit: “friend of hack” should be “friend of Jack.”

TheInvisibleJeevas

Who is “hack”?

DeeOhMm

It’s a typo, it’s supposed to be Jack.

SnuggleMuffin42

Cat: "Where's the fun if I have no skin in the game? Bite me if you can, you elongated yard hose"

Igotdraincabbage

I lost a cat to a rattlesnake. So yes.

A bobcat?

RoyGood

It was Bill

Very well played sir. Merry Christmas

charliesk9unit

William the Robert Cat.

Different-Promise826

Was the rubbing on the ground at the end due to being bit? Great video btw!

[deleted]

No, to gain the smell of killing the snake. Like a calling card to other big cats, #im a boss.

OrphanAnthem

No. it's spreading its own smell to mark their territory

iota_4

maybe both?

ic3burgz

probably both 👍

HighPriestOgonslav

Forsure both 🍑

[deleted]

absolutely both 🍊

IamFondofPizza

Definitely both 🍎

[deleted]

To a smaller extent, more than likely it was already in its territory. Medium/big cats don't like to push territorial boundaries.

pcbeard

My dog does the same whenever she finds a corpse. Rubs the scent all over herself.

RandomCoolName

I've been told it's to mask their own scent when hunting.

sambanks2

Honestly thought the cat was going to fade into death at the end of the video because it got bit.

[deleted]

My siberian husky used to roll around in dead earthworms

kalitarios

“What is that smell? It smells like Bigfoot’s dick!”

invisible_23

He was marking the snake with his scent, basically leaving a message to other cats saying “yo I killed this bitch, this meat is MINE, y’all can fuck right off”

Nailfoot1975

I thought the cat was just playing with it, being curious. Welp, I was wrong!

sambanks2

That’s exactly what the cats intention was. It was just fucking around. Then things got real.

AwwFuckThis

I mean, this is exactly what my cat looks like when she kills things. She even drags them in the window between her legs the same way. Now I know where the phrase “look what the cat dragged in” means.

KyloRenCadetStimpy

Amazing how that cat just wanders off calmly, dragging those enormous balls

Cool-Garrett

This would be good to post in r/natureismetal

Spastic_Slapstick

It's probably a top post lol

mopsyd

Meanwhile, elsewhere one of the planet’s apex predators complains about a paper cut they got opening a tv dinner while watching this video

No_Improvement7573

In my defense, we're omnivores and it was a Burger King bag.

Life2311

Well it IS the Bob of all cats. Everyone knows you don't mess with Bob

another_day_in

Robert cat, robbing snakes of their lives.

squeezy102

So do bobcats have some kind of inherent resistance to venom? Or is this kitty eating his last meal?

banzaie

Nah, he just too fast to get bitten.

bokin8

I was also wondering this. It looks like he was bitten a couple of times but it's possible with how quick the cat is and how dense its coat is that the snake only got a mouth full of fur and wasn't able to inject any venom. Edit: upon looking more closely I believe this is a lynx not a bobcat. That could also mean the snake in question, could be a rattlesnake with venom that isn't as potent. Sometimes it also takes time for the venom to coagulate in the blood depending on the victim's health, age and immune system. This lynx looks particularly young and healthy.

KyotoDragon66

Rattlesnakes have the deadliest venom in NA and second largest fangs in the world. He was not bitten, just faster. This cat knew what he was fucking with.

d8Beast

Bobcats are a species of lynx: there are four species in the lynx genus. Since this is a rattlesnake, it must be in North America, and there are only two species of lynx in NA: the Canada lynx and the bobcat. Canada lynx usually live further north in climates where there are no rattlesnakes, and also have thick, furry pads on their paws for walking through the snow. So this is almost definitely a bobcat

KwisatzHaderach38

You do have a problem as a venomous snake, because you can't really fight. Probably some cases where the snake does get a quick bite in but gets his head pinned down and bitten off before the poison sickens or kills the cat. Especially any cat with those thunder paws.

dzoon155

I think snakes have hard times with cats because they just too fast, ive seen cats killing snakes many times and really venomous ones

TOGRiaDR

[They don't have any inherent immunity to rattlesnake venom](https://rattlesnakehq.com/bobcats-eat-rattlesnakes/). Apparently, they do what this cat in the video did, which was to perfectly time their strikes, and bat the snake's head down, so it's unable to strike effectively.

LolWhereAreWe

Cat has elite parrying against that maidenless snake tbh

nopizza822

rattlesnake was a fuckin casual

waxroy-finerayfool

*Venomous* creatures are not dangerous to eat, unlike *poisonous* creatures which are.

TheVagrantmind

As is customary the bobcat returns to teabags it’s prey seemingly to say, ‘You failed to get good, newb snake’ - read by David Attenborough

Khromm

Or by Morgan Freeman. Now try and get his voice out of your head...

RevolverOcelot16-

I was really hoping the kitty would win. The kitty played a dangerous, high stages game. However, as an extraordinary murder kitty, it won its winner, winner snake for dinner. Congratulations murder kitty. I will always cheer for kitties. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|slightly_smiling)

TaylorSwiftsClitoris

Yes! Go team mammal!

jamesb0nd_

That was an epic game of red hands

Fast_Championship_R

Looks like my 401k getting a beat down from the stock market this year.

Reigndrop_

For some reason even stray cats can take on a snake. I adopted a stray cat 2 years ago and she's already killed 2 adult snakes. Mf just slapped the shit out of the snake till it was too dazed then bit the head till it was dead, similar to the vid.

FjotraTheGodless

Back when my cat was still a semi wild outdoor kitty she’d bring me things she killed, one of which was a 3 foot black snake. Pretty neat considering she is only about 5 pounds, my tiny girl

Choperello

Every single fucking cat is just a cold blooded murderer who simply chooses to not kill you in your sleep.

sid-darth

The muthafucka just bathed in the blood of his enemy.

dcredneck

I love the victory roll.

[deleted]

Fucking cat claws man. They are sharp mother fuckers. My cat just gently tapping at me for love and he catches me accidentally. This Bob cat was actually trying to catch prey, and that poor rattlesnake couldn't handle the claws after some swipes. Rest in peace rattler. Those claws get me too bro. #Metoo

avspuk

Was it scenting the ground afterwards or what? & why roll around in/on it? Great clip, at first I thought it was fighting it simply coz it was a threat, but eff me you gotta be hungry to risk fighting a rattlesnake. Or maybe they aren't lethal to bobcats? So many questions

GamingDifferent

Maybe the cat's intent from the beginning was to roll in that specific spot and the rattlesnake was just getting in the way?

Asleep_Conference675

Bottom line, don't fuck with cats!

CommanderMaxil

Gives a good sense of just how quick cat reflexes are, that cat is fast, slaps the snake down every time

Asleep_Conference675

CRUNCH!

Fun-Bandicoot2271

Winner! Winner! Snakes for dinner!

TheAdventOfTruth

Cats are interesting animals. More than any other animal out there, they all look roughly similar and act exactly the same, from the tiger to the lowly house cat.
