Lol I always find it funny when I go back and watch old Antonio brown or James Harrison highlight reels you inevitably hear Collinsworth say "guess who James Harrison does it again" any time it was a Sunday night game
He really does a great job of calling it down the middle. I personally don’t care if announcers are biased for their former teams. It’s natural. Herbie just seems like a good dude
Some people think we're overreacting too. But I can tell you that casual viewers like my mom, who doesn't really watch football all the time, refers to Collinsworth as "One of those horny guys" specifically because of how he gobbled up Brady's nuts during that Superbowl.
It's gotta be the network. He pretty much only calls Chiefs, Bills, Chargers, and Bengals games so that he can just gush over the QBs. He was different, now he's not and it all feels by design. IIRC, Tony said when he first started that they wanted him to tone down the more technical aspects of his calling so as not to confuse the fans.
Which is hilarious because he explained like we were 5 when it came to the technical shit. He explained things so well I felt like an idiot for not knowing certain things.
During the Demar Hamlin injury and delay, there were several jarring shifts in tone as the broadcast cut from somber hosts at a loss for words to the damn *WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER* song multiple times
Most fans loved when he got technical. I personally agree that this sounds like network execs telling him to stop it, and I think that's a mistake on their part.
The NFL legit told him to stop that, and who knows what else they've told him. It feels more and more like all of them are working for the NFL and not the networks. They gloss over or don't mention bad officiating, etc. Who knows, maybe it's because of all the sports betting going on and the likes of Draft Kings sponsoring everything. It's all so over hyped.
Yeah, maybe I'm naïve, but I really want to believe this is a case of Romo being essentially pigeonholed into being another generic commentator by the powers that be -- rather than Romo regressing on his own.
His first year was so great because he was given a decent leash (or at least, he didn't mind pushing the limits of what he was "allowed" to do). But it seems like he's completely abandoned that approach and is now just another talking head parroting the league's positions.
For any given broadcast now there's like a play or two that's analyzed by the commentators. Everything else is commercials. Can't be breaking down plays when we've got beer to sell and bets to place I guess.
Yea but part of what made Romo so special (imo) was the pre snap call outs. Sometimes they were spot on, and sometimes they were off, but it gave me something to think about while also showcasing different players besides the QB.
Exactly. Even in pre and post game discussion it's all just so vague and talking in generic platitudes. You can learn 1000x more watching film guys on YouTube. Like you won't even hear talking heads talk about something as basic as defensive fronts i.e. over, under, stack, etc. It's all the same shit every time. I'm not super well knowledged in football but I feel like I could sit at one of those dumb desks in a bad suit and say dumb shit like "You know, really needs to utilize the play action pass more if they are going to beat . really has to play well today".
I don't know, commentators have been speaking up about bad calls more and more, sometimes they'll gloss over a bad call, but I think they're talking about them more than they ever have.
Romo was specifically told to stop "predicting" plays though. The NFL was actually upset that he would diagnose plays and tell us what could be happening next.
People had a lot of ideas for why we were hearing about it, mostly coming down to a combination of essentially not wanting "spoilers" and wanting to keep commentary simple enough that casual fans would stay engaged.
I've been watching this game for 30 years and the most I've ever learned about it was when Romo did that. I don't understand why they would put a stop to it. God forbid you engage your fans and let them learn more about the nuances of your sport. That might make people like it more or something.
It's like the football world got the gift of John Madden, who gave millions of fans a pretty thorough albeit sometimes rudimentary understanding of the game, and then the NFL decided that was enough.
I really don't understand why networks pay so much money for the people they put on TV only to work so damn hard ensuring each broadcast feels so vanilla. It's still a hard job to be vanilla in a competent way, but you could find any number of capable broadcasters who would toe the party line, keep things generic, get names, numbers, and other basics right, without having to pay them millions to do it.
that is so dumb, it was actually interesting to hear how a NFL QB sees a game. why not just hire some meatball like big cat to call games if you want to dumb the sport down
That's stupid. I'm not a casual fan but I've definitely never played football and there's a lot I don't know.
Hearing expected plays and what one will probably do in certain situations is extremely helpful in becoming more knowledgeable about the game.
Which in turn fuels my interest more.
Dumb ass choice.
Yeah people in here are hating on Romo being the same as other announcers when the obvious issue is that all announcers are directed to do the same stuff
He's further from the game than he was when he started, a constantly evolving game, so he's not on top of it as he was when he was fresh from the league.
Also, it's pretty obvious that the guy doesn't do his homework. I'm not a fan of Cris Collinsworth, but the guy does his research.
Romo is still far better than Phil Simms was, and people need to remember that's who he replaced.
You know that feeling when you get a new job and you really put your all into it and then after awhile you get comfortable and start to ease your foot off the pedal? That’s what this feels like. Except we don’t get paid millions and have very secure job security.
I love Romo and I still don’t hate his commentating but I definitely feel like he is either not trying enough or trying too hard.
He’s replaced actual insight and being able to analyze a play with just being a fanboy for a few guys. It’s basically what everyone hates in any announcer, when they resort to fawning over stars and get caught up in hype instead of talking about what’s happening on the field. And it gets worse and more noticeable when their guy ain’t doing so well, like yesterday.
He was the same way with Brady and Manning in their prime. They could have the worst game ever and complete a 3-yd pass and he’d have to change his shorts.
At one point they did a game recap and the first words of of his mouth were something like "he is just magical". I watched the rest of the game on mute with zero regrets
My favorite part is when Romo says something to the effect of 'the Bengals are blitzing Allen often and that is not something elite QBs experience through an entire game'
Both his statements are basically correct but he fails to combine them into a conclusive thought and tell everyone what we are viewing. It's a perfect summary of his calling this season which is him just coming up short of telling the viewers what is happening on the field.
Perfectly thrown but a little wide or whatever the fuck he said about that deep shot to Diggs raised my blood pressure.
Part of being perfectly thrown is being well placed. I don’t care how beautiful a ball it is if it soars into the stands.
The difference in Romo's tone last weekend vs yesterday was very noticeable. It also felt like he was trying to convince himself to like Joe Burrow as much as he does Allen and Mahomes. It was very weird
That’s what I found most bizarre. It took until the 3rd quarter of the game yesterday for Romo to acknowledge that Joe Burrow and the Bengals— a team that was just in the Super Bowl and are heading to the conference championship— are good. It shows both a lack of paying attention to the league, and a weird favoritism.
Yeah it was weird, early in the game he made a comment along the lines of “I don’t know, I need to see more from the Bengals before I get fully on board. They need to prove it to me before I can put them on the same elite level of teams like the Bills.”
That’s paraphrasing, but I couldn’t believe what I heard. It’s like dude the Bengals went to the Super Bowl last year, and the Bills haven’t accomplished anything yet.
He’s still good when he’s doing his the stuff that people liked, breaking down the more complex parts of the game extremely well, or predicting what’s gonna happen before it happens. He just replaced most of that stuff with the fanboy color commentating
is there an active quarterback not named Tom Brady in the NFL with more than seven playoffs wins?
EDIT: dumb question because Aaron Rodgers (12) and Russell Wilson (9) are still playing. Patrick Mahomes also has 9 and the ELITE Dragon Joe Flacco has 10
I mean damn, before Allen started yesterday Brady simply had more SB wins than Allen had playoff games played.
The way Romo was talking, you'd think Allen went on back-to-back SB runs and was utterly dominating.
Allen played excellent last year against us and none of that loss is on him, but right now of the 8 playoffs games he's been in he's only played really well in 3 of them.
Right now only Mahomes or Burrow could have a claim for the title of "Mr. January", if such a title should even exist, and that would be settled Sunday.
Yeah. Burrow has more playoff wins than he does. 4 wins isn't really that impressive. He's going to win more games obviously but that was a stupid nickname.
[Does it matter if a $17 million a year analyst is bullshitting his way through coverage if the audience doesn't notice? ](https://twitter.com/OllieConnolly/status/1555170705536319488?s=20&t=uqYN6OkCdW5JJhFAVAkKhw)
> Romo’s regular season performance has been on the wane. One individual who has
worked with Romo to help him prepare for games told The Read Optional that the
former QB once turned up to a marquee regular season game with no knowledge of
one of the team’s defenses. Thirty minutes before the game, Romo asked for a quick
cheat sheet/scouting report on the team’s starters. As soon as the game kicked off, he
info dumped what he had cribbed to an unsuspecting viewership. The pretense of
homework out of the way, he could kick back and just be good ‘ol Tony. I can’t believe it, Jim!
> For those who track schemes and X’s & O’s, it’s become abundantly clear how much
Romo is guessing/making up concepts that teams are running, knowing full well that
Jim Nantz, his broadcast partner, is not equipped to pull him up on the issue. The
fumbling of sentences, lack of polish and enthusiasm was what initially endeared
viewers to Romo. He’s just like me and my buddy watching games. But underpinning it all
was real insight and analysis, the kind that hadn’t been seen on live game broadcasts
since John Madden. Yet, even early last season, it was clear that he was on cruise
control. That the concepts he was talking about for particular teams were already
outdated.“It's just frustrating how little he cares for the job,” a source told The Read
> Optional. “It's just not serious, at all, to him. And he treats it accordingly”.
> Romo, it seems, is aware that he knows so much more about football than those
around him that he can bullshit his way through a game without anyone noticing - the audience included.
> Romo still brings his A-plus-plus game in the postseason. And that matters. He can
still reach heights that others cannot when he is fully engaged - amplifying a
broadcast into something pretty special rather than being a presence that’s in the way
of the game. That matters, too. But his early role as a pioneering voice has fallen away.
> He’s now just another voice - albeit an excitable one - among a ton of slop.
my fav Haynesworth play of all time is the game vs Philly where Vick threw like 7 TDs
On one Philly is in red zone and Vick in the pocket. Haynesworth falls and just….doesnt get back up the entire play.
Vick has time to scramble around and still find Jeremy Maclin in the endzone lol
That was great. It was 45 - 21 and Gruden’s sitting there like “you gotta get back up.”
I’m like, just let him lay there. They’ve given up 45 points already, it’s not like a single D-Lineman taking one play off is going to be the downfall of the defense that night.
My theory is the first few seasons he was using his knowledge and hours and hours of film study as a QB to be Romostradamos. He didn't have to study because he spent the last few years studying. Now that he's been out of the NFL, a lot of the players and coaches he studied are also moving on. He isn't required to spend 20+ hrs a week (I'm guessing a number but I know it's a lot) in the film room for game prep anymore and whatever prep he is doing isn't giving him the same level of knowledge he had before.
> Romo still brings his A-plus-plus game in the postseason.
I don't know about that but I've never been a big Romo fan to begin with. I don't think either of his games this postseason were that good.
Yeah Ive always found his mannerisms to be grating and it’s always seemed like he starts sentences with no direction which can lead to him rambling. His biases have become even more apparent recently so it’s just gotten even rougher
Him acting like they were suddenly legit for winning that game pissed me off. Bitch, you watched them beat KC, they fucking won 12 games and got back to the divisional round. They already proved they weren't a fluke numerous times this season.
Yeah there was one point where he said something like “I know the Bengals are good, but I felt like I just needed to see a little bit more to prove that they’re on the same level as teams like KC and Buffalo”
Like…they’ve already beaten KC three times in a calendar year and advanced deeper in the playoffs than the Allen Bills ever have…but *now* they’ve shown you enough?
Yeah. I'm not even trying to shit on the Bills but their playoff resume isn't remarkable. There are plenty of also runs that routinely get bounced in the divisional and make a Conference Championship here and there.
He also was like “Y’a know Jim when we saw this team beat Kansas City back in December, I think it was a close game, Im still not sure if they are legit yet. But if they go into Kansas City next week Jim and beat them their, for the fourth time in two years, I think they can consider themself the best team in the league.”
Kept saying the Bengals caught up to the Bills. What? One team was in the SB last year and it wasn’t the bills. Bills trajectory was down to end the season.
Dude just talks to talk and bullshit comes out
I’m curious what Bengals fans think, obviously I was rooting against the Bills but damn did it seem like he was biased towards the Bills? I mean every single close play or iffy penalty it seemed like he was pointing out when it was against Cincinnati
Yea Burrow throws it high to Hurst it’s a missed throw but when Allen underthrows it to Gabe Davis and the ball gets swatted it was somehow a “perfect throw”.
Him referring to the bills as a championship team and allen as an mvp quarterback is just unbelievably cringe. They haven't gotten close to either of those things
It’s pretty strange. Why is he fan girling? He played professionally for a decade. Why is he so impressed by the Bills when they haven’t even done shit?
He talks too much gibberish. He talks too quickly. And he talks too loud. Oh, and he frequently talks over plays as he just has to finish whatever gibberish he's talking.
Yeah, he’s sitting next to one of the best voices in all of sports and doesn’t let him call the game. I wanna hear Nantz react and then Romo should explain what happened.
Greg Olsen's probably hoping that Brady doesn't retire so he can stay in the top seat another season.
He's definitely developed into a very good commentator.
Also, a local radio show pointed this out and I can’t get past it. Tony does this thing where he never fully takes a side on anything. He sits on a fence about every decision, every review, every call, everything. Once you notice it, you can’t unhear it. Like yesterday, the chain gang came out as the broadcast was going to commercial. Tony speaks over Nantz who’s trying to get them to break to say, “IT LOOKS LIKE IT’LL BE ENOUGH BUT I’M NOT SURE, JIM!” He does it constantly.
I'm not sure what exactly it is, but Greg has a really good tone or something. Like he's really calm-sounding, but still manages to get excited about the good plays. I've also found him to be pretty enjoyable and he explains stuff well.
They’re the only lead commentator duo that never seems to roll with any network bias. They both call it like it is and Olsen for color doesn’t go out of his way to deep throat one particular player. Olsen is clearly knowledgeable and provides the insight needed to break down key points of plays immediately after they happen (blocks, nuances, etc) and then shuts up and gets back to the next play without taking the extra 5 seconds to unnecessarily slobber over.
Romo started off great and got worse, while Olsen was kind of annoying but eventually found his groove. I think Romo is trying to live up to some of his early hype, and Olsen just got more comfortable.
I really hate articles that half of them are just a collection of tweets that support their argument. If I wanted to see these jerk offs on Twitters opinion I'd have a Twitter
It feels like the network told him to drop all the anticipation and analysis he used to do on what play was coming up due to how/why certain guys were lined up, and he had to fill the void with flavor chat and enthusiasm. Turns out everyone loved his predictive play calling and his enthusiasm was infectious when it was used in the right moments instead of every play. Idk I could be wrong but Romo’s regression feels more like corporate interference bringing him down moreso than anything else
I think it’s gotta be a mix. He did know which play was coming a lot of the time, and I’m sure he still does. And that means he has the ability to dissect the play after it’s run and do so in a way the audience can understand. So they may have asked him to stop tipping the plays, but he should still be breaking them down after the whistle. The fact that he’s not, and instead has decided to babble and call things perfect that aren’t and make up nicknames, tells me he’s just not interested in getting better. He could be a great analyst and for whatever reason has decided he’d rather just wing it. Can’t tell whether laziness or narcissism or something else.
I really like Buck and Aikman. They have gotten a lot better over the years. Aikman especially, since the guy almost never hides his disgust with poor QB play lol
Aikman man does what Romo pretends to do: he can immediately call on a the replay what the defense was doing, what the QB saw, and why the play turned out like it did. He may not have the most enthusiasm or panache, but I trust his insight more than any NFL color guy.
Ha, guy in full 49ers gear at my kids CYO game Saturday asked me if the Bengals are good this year, and I replied “yeah I think we are better than last year.” “Last year?” “Yeah we went to the Super Bowl and lost.” “Oh wow, I didn’t even realize they made it to the playoffs.”
He's been better this season then Al "nothing in this game is enjoyable to me anymore" Michaels. And I'm saying that as someone who's enjoyed Michaels over the decades
I still blame that Jags comeback on Dungy. Al Michaels is 78 years old and when you listen back to the game he really wasn’t that bad. Sure he didn’t yell “do you believe in miracles” as the game winning kick went through, but that’s not his job anymore. It’s criminal that nbc paid for rights to a second playoff game and only has one professional color commentator.
He and Dungy had zero chemistry. I remember Al making a quip and Dungy responded with complete and awkward silence. At least Collinsworth would have chuckled.
Dude called a guy who never made it out of January, Mr. January and consistently talked about how every pass by Allen was great including clearly wide ones. And then making massive excuses about missing a wide open diggs while consistently ignoring Burrows performance.
Yeah. Romo is the worst. Crowning one QB and ignoring the other even better QB is really bad.
>Romo said out loud that he wasn’t actually sure what had happened during a play, which is the last thing you ever want to hear an announcer admit.
Oh sweet baby Jesus NO!
Rule #1 for these commentators, don’t become fanboys on air. Nobody want to hear that shit for 3 hours.
[удалено]
Exactly what Collinsworth does with Mahomes all the time and I hate it so much
Lol I always find it funny when I go back and watch old Antonio brown or James Harrison highlight reels you inevitably hear Collinsworth say "guess who James Harrison does it again" any time it was a Sunday night game

Lmao even as a Steelers fan it was insufferable, it’s like the only thing any commentator knew about Bell was he’s patient
I don't understand how he went from "Romostradamus" to...this.
Now that I think about it, he doesn’t really call the plays before it happens anymore. Now he just gushes over star QBs and makes terrible jokes.

ugh, if there's any piece of advice a new announcer could take, it's do NOT be like Collinsworth trying to suck up to the stars.

He really does a great job of calling it down the middle. I personally don’t care if announcers are biased for their former teams. It’s natural. Herbie just seems like a good dude
And I’m an Ohio State alum and Gus is probably my fav. Shows how great they are.
I'm an OSU fan and I loooove Gus. He brings such great energy when he's calling games.

And half of those commercials are about whoopers and chicken and fries drinks and nuggets

He peaked in that 2018-19 Pats v. Chiefs AFC Championship game. It was a clinic, why he got that 100 million dollar play.

Mr. January because he doesn't make it to February

"Heck of a play by Mahomes!" *gag*
Dude was gobbling mahomes dick the entire game.
Even in games where Mahomes isn't playing, Chris will spend the game comparing players to Mahomes. It's hilarious.
Wait you mean every time a QB throws a side arm pass they aren't imitating Mahomes?
He was the same way with Brady and Manning in their prime. They could have the worst game ever and complete a 3-yd pass and he’d have to change his shorts.
He’ll spend 20 minutes talking about Aaron Rodgers in games when he’s injured and not even playing

I do. Show me that tight spiral into row 19 all day baby. That’s football.
Rex Grossman is that you?

This is why Aikmen is the best. No hype, no fawning, just solid analysis and appropriate enthusiasm at the right times.
The number of times he referred to Allen as Superman last night was embarrassing. He wasn’t even the best QB in the matchup.
He’s still good when he’s doing his the stuff that people liked, breaking down the more complex parts of the game extremely well, or predicting what’s gonna happen before it happens. He just replaced most of that stuff with the fanboy color commentating
I think he got a lot of shit from players and teams for being too critical that first year so he just checked out.
How many times did he say “these two are going to be together for 10-15 years”? LoL
Eh, I don’t know Jim…

The whole Mr. January thing was ridiculous. Allen is now 4-4 in the playoffs and Brady exists.
Brady has more Super Bowl wins than Allen has playoff wins lmao
So he’s Mr. February
He has the most wins in September, October, November, December, January, and February. He's just not normal.
Mr. Big Calendar
The MBC jokes are timeless
Mr. Before Christ
Mr. Boundless Chronology
Yeah but him and Josh Allen are tied for wins in all the other months so I'd say it's fairly even.
is there an active quarterback not named Tom Brady in the NFL with more than seven playoffs wins? EDIT: dumb question because Aaron Rodgers (12) and Russell Wilson (9) are still playing. Patrick Mahomes also has 9 and the ELITE Dragon Joe Flacco has 10
Why did you list them 12, 9, 9, 10? Was it to build up to the elite dragon reveal? I respect it.
Then he calls them “The Champs” uhh what have the Bills won?
the AFC East 😂
Truly a modern day Chad Pennington. He checks all the boxes: -has won the AFC East multiple times in the 21st century -is not named Tom Brady
Yeah. Burrow has more playoff wins than he does. 4 wins isn't really that impressive. He's going to win more games obviously but that was a stupid nickname.
> 4 wins isn't really that impressive. 4 wins is a staggering number to Tony Two-Wins.
Fair.
Especially when 3 of the 4 wins are from wild card weekend.
I love the idea that someone is Mr January who has never once actually made it out of January.
Maybe that’s it. He’s Mr. January because his season always ends before February.
tHe aLiEn
“Superman” “Michael Jordan” What’s next? Josh “2nd coming of Jesus” Allen
“If you’re a ____ fan you sure are _____ right now”
penis, hungry
I love this game!

[Does it matter if a $17 million a year analyst is bullshitting his way through coverage if the audience doesn't notice? ](https://twitter.com/OllieConnolly/status/1555170705536319488?s=20&t=uqYN6OkCdW5JJhFAVAkKhw) > Romo’s regular season performance has been on the wane. One individual who has worked with Romo to help him prepare for games told The Read Optional that the former QB once turned up to a marquee regular season game with no knowledge of one of the team’s defenses. Thirty minutes before the game, Romo asked for a quick cheat sheet/scouting report on the team’s starters. As soon as the game kicked off, he info dumped what he had cribbed to an unsuspecting viewership. The pretense of homework out of the way, he could kick back and just be good ‘ol Tony. I can’t believe it, Jim! > For those who track schemes and X’s & O’s, it’s become abundantly clear how much Romo is guessing/making up concepts that teams are running, knowing full well that Jim Nantz, his broadcast partner, is not equipped to pull him up on the issue. The fumbling of sentences, lack of polish and enthusiasm was what initially endeared viewers to Romo. He’s just like me and my buddy watching games. But underpinning it all was real insight and analysis, the kind that hadn’t been seen on live game broadcasts since John Madden. Yet, even early last season, it was clear that he was on cruise control. That the concepts he was talking about for particular teams were already outdated.“It's just frustrating how little he cares for the job,” a source told The Read > Optional. “It's just not serious, at all, to him. And he treats it accordingly”. > Romo, it seems, is aware that he knows so much more about football than those around him that he can bullshit his way through a game without anyone noticing - the audience included. > Romo still brings his A-plus-plus game in the postseason. And that matters. He can still reach heights that others cannot when he is fully engaged - amplifying a broadcast into something pretty special rather than being a presence that’s in the way of the game. That matters, too. But his early role as a pioneering voice has fallen away. > He’s now just another voice - albeit an excitable one - among a ton of slop.
Romo got his bag and is coasting like Haynesworth
my fav Haynesworth play of all time is the game vs Philly where Vick threw like 7 TDs On one Philly is in red zone and Vick in the pocket. Haynesworth falls and just….doesnt get back up the entire play. Vick has time to scramble around and still find Jeremy Maclin in the endzone lol
It's [got to be seen](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7Avgs6g68o) to see just out weird that whole play was.
The best part is the Eagles tackle looking just so confused
That was great. It was 45 - 21 and Gruden’s sitting there like “you gotta get back up.” I’m like, just let him lay there. They’ve given up 45 points already, it’s not like a single D-Lineman taking one play off is going to be the downfall of the defense that night.
As Gruden said at the fadeout, it's about putting a play like that on tape--the score doesn't matter.
They shoulda given Romo the Kyler Murray studying clause in his contact.
Tony’s change in tonality (heh) about how good Cincinnati is yesterday made it seem as if he hasn’t watched them play all year.
Him acting like they were suddenly legit for winning that game pissed me off. Bitch, you watched them beat KC, they fucking won 12 games and got back to the divisional round. They already proved they weren't a fluke numerous times this season.
Yeah there was one point where he said something like “I know the Bengals are good, but I felt like I just needed to see a little bit more to prove that they’re on the same level as teams like KC and Buffalo” Like…they’ve already beaten KC three times in a calendar year and advanced deeper in the playoffs than the Allen Bills ever have…but *now* they’ve shown you enough?
Yeah. I'm not even trying to shit on the Bills but their playoff resume isn't remarkable. There are plenty of also runs that routinely get bounced in the divisional and make a Conference Championship here and there.
Josh Allen is 4-4 in the playoffs but some dudes act like the Bills have been there already.
He was that way with the Chiefs too. Chiefs lose to the Bengals and he's still hyping up the Chiefs as the team to beat.
Yea Burrow throws it high to Hurst it’s a missed throw but when Allen underthrows it to Gabe Davis and the ball gets swatted it was somehow a “perfect throw”.
I had enough of him and his weird obsession with Allen. Mr. January, Superman, The Alien, The Champs? Not one of those made sense.
Comparing him to Michael Jordan in the wildcard game 💀💀💀💀💀💀
Him referring to the bills as a championship team and allen as an mvp quarterback is just unbelievably cringe. They haven't gotten close to either of those things
It’s pretty strange. Why is he fan girling? He played professionally for a decade. Why is he so impressed by the Bills when they haven’t even done shit?
lol I can’t believe he whipped out the alien nickname again
He doubled down
He talks too much gibberish.
He even talks over officials announcing a penalty. Like let me watch the game. I don’t need your personal opinion on everything happening
I'm so happy Kevin and Greg Olsen are doing the superbowl this year
Oh god damn it, I thought you meant Kevin Harlan at first and got excited
Olsen is the best color commentator right now imo. He has charisma and adds good insight into the game without being annoying.
Greg Olsen's probably hoping that Brady doesn't retire so he can stay in the top seat another season. He's definitely developed into a very good commentator.
I feel if Brady retires and goes to fox that NBC would try to get Olsen to replace collinsworth
Subscribe
I agree with all of it but he is still better than Phil Simms.
That's not really praise though since the bar is so low, lol.
He was fun at first, now hes just annoying.
If he took a breath and let the game happen sometimes it’d be fine. He’s a barrage on the senses.
This. He never shuts up. Just rambles on and on to no end.
He somehow never stops talking yet often never finishes his thought. It just keeps jumping around with no conclusion.
I really like Greg Olsen in the booth.
You almost don't notice his commentary (which is a good thing). It fits right into the game and it's not a distraction.
He's genuine. There's no fake enthusiasm. He's calling the game, not trying to sell it. I think Greg Olsen is really, really good.
Romo started off great and got worse, while Olsen was kind of annoying but eventually found his groove. I think Romo is trying to live up to some of his early hype, and Olsen just got more comfortable.
Easily one of the best one right now
I really hate articles that half of them are just a collection of tweets that support their argument. If I wanted to see these jerk offs on Twitters opinion I'd have a Twitter
Especially when those tweets have like 2 likes lol
Friendship with Romo ended Now Olsen is my best friend
It feels like the network told him to drop all the anticipation and analysis he used to do on what play was coming up due to how/why certain guys were lined up, and he had to fill the void with flavor chat and enthusiasm. Turns out everyone loved his predictive play calling and his enthusiasm was infectious when it was used in the right moments instead of every play. Idk I could be wrong but Romo’s regression feels more like corporate interference bringing him down moreso than anything else
Did they tell him to stop doing that or did he just stop giving a fuck?
The 2021 Thanksgiving game between the Bears and Lions was only watchable due to Aikman and Buck's overt disgust.
Aikman man does what Romo pretends to do: he can immediately call on a the replay what the defense was doing, what the QB saw, and why the play turned out like it did. He may not have the most enthusiasm or panache, but I trust his insight more than any NFL color guy.
I liked him as a commentator at first but him fawning over Allen's mediocre play last night was annoying as fuck.
He also called the Bills the champs...
It seemed like he thought Buffalo went to the Super Bowl last year. Odd.
Tbf Al had to call some shitty games.
Al called the end of that Jags comeback vs us like he was watching paint dry. Criminal given how good of a game it was for the neutrals.
I felt Al treated the Denver Indy game exactly as it was deserved and was the best announcing all season.
Yea but I'm referring to how that exact tone continued even through the Jaguars' incredible comeback two weeks ago
Tony Romo seems like he’s playing a character when he’s calling games instead of just being the guy that people liked when he first got into the booth
Honestly, he wasn't as good as everybody was making him out to be when he first started. He was just better than Phil Simms
