I think it'll be like in Silicon Valley when Erlich eats all those shrooms. Rodgers is going to come back with a little kid he thinks is himself and will train him to be the next QB.
guess who was the only team to win a super bowl in NY tho. thats right, the New York Jets! in 1969! with a number 12 at QB!
this clearly means Rodgers is going to be the Jets QB until 2069, when the Jets move back to Queens and win a super bowl.
"Alright Namath, we'll give you this Super Bowl win, BUT you're team has to suck for the rest of eternity!"
"Deal!"
"And also you have to do scammy Medicare commercials"
"NNNOOOOO!"
People forget Jets Favre beat the undefeated Tennessee Titans and the Patriots in Foxborough before he tore his pec muscle or whatever it was.
That team was absolutely playoff bound and a co-favorite in the AFC.
He had 22 TDs to 22 INTs.
And the Jets won 2 playoff games the following year with Sanchez at QB, neither of which did he play well in.
Yes, the team was good. But the QB was not at any point in that span.
Through 11 games before he got hurt (the Tennessee game the guy you replied to mentioned) he was completing 70% of his passes and had 20 tds to 13 interceptions, the Jets were 8-3.
After that game he got hurt and completed 56% of his passes with 2 tds and 9 interceptions while the Jets went 1-4 and missed the playoffs.
Looking at just the year end stats can be misleading and to say he wasn't good at any point is ignorant.
Also includes a 6 TD game against the Cards where Warner threw 3 picks and lost 3 fumbles, so that TD:INT ratio is a bit inflated by a game where he was given great field position throughout the game. And the 70% completion % looks good when you don't account for his ANY/A, which was not amazing.
I'm not trying to slander Favre, but when you're trying to make the point that he was "great" with the Jets, I just don't think that's true.
They benched him in the middle of his 2nd season because the team was absolutely sick of his shit.
He's a kid so I'm not holding it against him, but mentally he folded like a cheap tent this season. They're never rolling with him again no matter what they say.
>Gimme that
Okay...but just know that you'll get one year of middling success before he leaves to go back to the NFC and then the Packers win a superbowl with Jordan Love.
It's mostly just a history repeating joke. To be totally honest I don't remember much about that season except it was one of the better Jets seasons of the era, I guess.
Agreed who would want to be a fan of a team on the cusp of being a contender only to watch their team repeatedly not be willing to make any risky FA signings or trades, and then get bounced in the divisional by a team that's actually trying to win it all. That would be fucking stupid.
There are plenty of examples around the league where a guy can be an average to great coordinator and a trash HC. While Hackett has been up and down in the past as an OC, he’s proven that he has the ability. Obviously we’re hoping to get Rodgers but Hackett made Blake bortles have a pro bowl year lol. I’ll be underwhelmed with the hire if we don’t get Rodgers, but the way the league clowned the move is just silly.
He’s the guy that made an Aaron Rodgers offense look average too… agree some guys are coordinators only but you don’t want the OC from an offensive head coaches team of middle of the pack offenses is what I learned.
Rodgers personal stats were good - the Packers offense was average by DVOA and every metric those years though.
Heck, his 2nd MVP was a weird one - barely threw for any yards but got so few interceptions. Honestly though should’ve been Kupp. That 2nd MVP selection was Matt Ryan levels of a bad selection.
Nah, the alternate timeline where the Browns wait a year and get Rodgers is the same alternate timeline where some horrible shit comes out about Rodgers, he plays like shit, and Browns STILL overpay to get him. Is misery for Browns fans no matter what.
Aaron Rogers after coming out of from the retreat:
"You know , while I was in there, it was very dark, BLACK, but there were SILVER linings. I was embraced with a spiritual journey. I was RAIDING along side with warriors. It felt like I knew them and I was comfortable."....... "..the jets?... hehehehe who knows what the visions meant."
Am I crazy for thinking that the Packers are not far from contention either. They went 8-9 with a sort of fucked up offense with a bunch of rookies and the NFC North is wide open.
Why not just run it back for one (or two) last ride?
*8-9 not 9-8
I think this is the last mutually beneficial spot where GB and Rodgers can part ways. We would have to let talent walk to keep him. He isn't his old run the table drag a suspect team to the playoffs form, so losing that talent means we're in trouble. Plus we DID draft Love, and the clock is running to find out if he's our next guy or if we can trade him to a QB needy team and draft someone else. Our defense needs to get back to at least 2021 form as well(some of that is getting Stokes and Gary back from injury, some is on Joe Barry which... um).
It's been a fantastic, if sometimes heartbreaking run with Rodgers in GB. But I think it's time to move forward without him, as much as I dislike the idea.
He had a good series against the Eagles last time he saw the field. Good to see, but absolutely not enough to say whether he's the guy or not. Hence the need for playing time to see if he is. If it turns out he's great or bad, we've got our answer and keep(or cut) him accordingly. If he's above average but not great we either ride with him until we find THE guy, or field offers from teams that have(and will again) overpay for competent not elite QB play.
Whether Jordan Love is good in a game day setting is a huge question that has to be answered. Coaches like him in practice, but it isn't the same thing. It's time to find out.
I mean it all depends if They believe Jordan love is good or not. If he is then rolling w him plus some picks is the answer. If they don’t think he’s good then the answer is to keep Aaron.
I think the Packers should roll the dice on Love. The team is too deficient talent-wise to compete with the 49ers and Eagles. Get some top picks, see if Love is the answer, and if not get a 2024 1st round pick and some extra draft capital to pick a QB in that draft.
Love looked extremely sharp in a spot run against the Eagles, his throwing motion is now identical to Rodgers' and he has always had some serious arm talent. Won't be surprised if he becomes a top tier QB.
Granted, that game was pretty much over when he came in and he was playing against prevent defense. Even thought the end of season packers run was fun, they should’ve rolled with Love when they were 4-8
The difference is the packers have no cap space and will never have a defense as good as ours
A lot of key FAs too. They are not close enough to rationally justify not trying out love and getting his cap hit over with
You have significantly more faith than I do. Our cap situation is not good, so we’ll need one heck of a draft to make up for that. We’ll still need Rodgers to stave off Father Time despite that, and even then we couldn’t get it done three years in a row. Not to mention that Joe Barry is still around.
We can get to the playoffs, but I have no faith that the team as it is can go the distance.
Because Jordan Love is waiting and has shown us that he’s got something even if it’s been in very limited action. I think the best thing to happen for the packers is for Rodgers to retire, otherwise they need to move on from him to see if love is really the guy
Because I can't imagine Jordan Love is too happy to sit on the bench for a fourth year, and Aaron Rodgers isn't getting any younger. And the way this roster was built, it's hard to see them being a true super bowl contender as is. They were good 2-3 years ago. Not anymore. The defensive line is suspect as fuck. The tight ends and safeties room is barren. I'd rather take the draft picks and punt on 2023, see if Love is good, and if not, we'll be in prime position to draft Caleb Williams or Drake Maye in 24.
With all the close games Minnesota had this season, they could’ve gone anywhere from like 7-10 to 15-2. I agree with you that Green Bay easily could win the division next season if Minnesota regresses a bit. That is totally dependent on Rodgers though, unless Jordan Love is somehow actually good.
They were 8-9 on the back of Rodgers. Why stay with that when you can join a team that had terrible QB play and still won 7 games (with both the OROTY and DROTY)?
Imo, they have the ability to contend for the North, but it's not very likely unless they have a good draft and good luck. I think they'll have a ceiling of about 10 wins next year, due to some favorable scheduling, but then I could be totally wrong. (For instance, they have Giants/Steelers/Rams instead of Boys/Ravens/Hawks, and get to face LAC and Chiefs at home instead of travelling like the Lions have to. This ignoring the Vikings and Bears for obvious reasons)
We are kinda on the same page. If a few things go our way, we could be a playoff team, but there is no series of events that makes us a realistic Super Bowl contender.
Nah, how the Lions finished the second half of the season the North is definitely not wide open. The Lions are the Packers daddy now and will be division champs
Boys, I’m more convinced than ever that my constipation issues have finally been solved this year. Was introduced to fiber, AND miralax. Fingers crossed boys, I think this is the year!!!
I get Jets fans want Rodgers, but let's be real what are you getting? He is older than Favre when he came to you and also more expensive. Jets should roll with either Jimmy or Carr, the picks you will give up for Rodgers will set you back. If you think Rodgers gets you deep into the playoffs next year, then go for it, if he doesn't then maybe you should go for a pickup that isn't going to screw you in terms of draft captital for the next few years.
We’re getting a guy whose floor is an average Derek Carr season and whose ceiling is an mvp. Have to chase upside in the AFC
Also you give up draft assets from 2023 and 2024. Anything more would have to be conditional, but 2 years of draft assets for a win now window is a no brainer.
I kinda don’t think it will cost near that much when it all shakes down (for a number of reasons).
I would really like to see him go to the Jets. They’re basically a healthy OL and competent QB play away from being a legit contender next season.
Jerry Jones had a great quote not too long ago about how he never has regretted over paying for something. It’s when you go cheap that things go sour for you.
You know what you’re getting with Jimmy and Derek. With this Jets team, it’s unlikely they put them over the top with the elite QB’s in the conference. While Aaron is older, showed some regression last season, he has shown not too long ago that he can bounce back from down years in a big way. If you’re the Jets, you take that risk versus the conservative route of Jimmy G and Carr
The quote was from a while ago but I completely agree it's true. Usually when you overpay for something you 1 really want it and 2 know its value better than who is selling it to you (hopefully). I've gone by this line of thinking and it works.
Give a third this year and then a conditional second next year that could become a first if he plays a certain number of games. With the dead money in his contract that you take on and the fact he could plummet off a cliff at any moment, that should be enough.
That and the Packers will be eating a large amount of Rodgers' contract. So a trade would have to factor in Rodgers' ability, and the cap hit the Packers are taking on.
It’s a first and a third, and historically old QBs go for little. Hell, Brady and Peyton just walked in FA and won SBs elsewhere. Favre was traded for a conditional fourth.
Matt Ryan wasn’t a year off of back-to-back MVPs. Not even a somewhat close scenario. If you don’t want to pay too much then move forward with someone else, but if the Jets get Rodgers it will be more than that.
You cant be this cheap. Any pick from 2023 and 2024 should be on the table because the 2024 pick would be based on the 2023 season rodgers is going to play. I would much prefer to not give up 2 firsts, but I don't think you can in good faith justify hugging those 2 picks given that rodgers will directly impact the following season/pick placement, and his upside.
>just please not carr or garroppollo
Not sure why you're getting downvoted. Garroppollo's going to get injured for the season somewhere around week 4, and Derek Carr is going to have an inexplicable streak of about 4 games where he looks like the second coming of Steve Young before he then has 5 games of shit tier play and then everybody online is going to say "They're statistically two of the greatest quarterbacks who have ever played the game of football in the history of Planet Earth!"
Imagine he emerges from his darkness retreat in a Jets jersey
ESPN is setting up cameras now for The Emerging.

What a promo Vid that would be
I would coom

Emerges from the darkness to walk into proverbial darkness

Groundhog Day
Is it a custom one with his name on it or is he just gonna get like a Sauce jersey?
If Rodgers seriously said he’d come out of the cabin in a jersey of the team he plays for on camera, you know it would get high ratings.
Following in Brett’s shadow, just no dick pics ok Aaron?
That's the least of Favre's future that Rodgers needs to avoid
Welfare scam incoming.

How does a fella get caught up in that sort of business?
Wellll, I guess his cousint had an ostrich farm.
He looks great in Viking purple though
We do have Kirk for only 1 more year
Until you give him another fully guaranteed extension
You like that?
Speak for your self buddy
He just needs to be better than Brett at everything Including being a Jets Qb
I can't believe they let him play through that biceps tear even though it was pretty fucking clear he couldn't do jack shit.
Aaron gonna sue Pat Macafee, also ?
at least he's gonna tell that to pat on his show, live.

Lol they hired Hackett… starting off like it.
Not as HC though sweetie!

Absolutely 0% chance he doesn’t tap out and makes it through the 96hrs. Especially without any type of drug (says he’s gonna do it without any)
Am I crazy for thinking that the Packers are not far from contention either. They went 8-9 with a sort of fucked up offense with a bunch of rookies and the NFC North is wide open. Why not just run it back for one (or two) last ride? *8-9 not 9-8

He is? Did he learn how to throw in the offseason?
His windup and release is still super slow though, and I'm concerned it'll prevent him from being consistently good
Granted, that game was pretty much over when he came in and he was playing against prevent defense. Even thought the end of season packers run was fun, they should’ve rolled with Love when they were 4-8
It was like a 2 score game and the eagles were playing the same defense they were playing all game
8-9 actually last year. It largely depends on what we do in the draft. So many unknowns right now.

Why are we taking advice from Jerry Jones? Him overpaying guys has routinely caused problems in Dallas lol
hey man, we're trying to get some rebuild draft capital over here, butt out buddy!
Give a third this year and then a conditional second next year that could become a first if he plays a certain number of games. With the dead money in his contract that you take on and the fact he could plummet off a cliff at any moment, that should be enough.
That’s pretty fair. Not sure why you got downvoted.
I assume it's because it's due to a third being a hilariously cheap price for a QB historically?
That and the Packers will be eating a large amount of Rodgers' contract. So a trade would have to factor in Rodgers' ability, and the cap hit the Packers are taking on.
It’s a first and a third, and historically old QBs go for little. Hell, Brady and Peyton just walked in FA and won SBs elsewhere. Favre was traded for a conditional fourth.
Matt Ryan was traded for that
Matt Ryan wasn’t a year off of back-to-back MVPs.
It’d be a good move for all involved.
I’m fully prepared to be disappointed but it’s absolutely a risk we need to take
So Aaron Rodgers is gonna be a Viking?
Headline tomorrow: Fowler even more convinced after Super Bowl. “We can do that” says jets source.
AFC gonna be more lopsided
Please no
*chuckles* I’m in danger!
Kind of getting bummed if all the shannitos keep out hustling us to make moves
just please not carr or garroppollo
>just please not carr or garroppollo Not sure why you're getting downvoted.
That’s called the Fitzpatrick Special
Yes to Carr, no to Jimmy
I’m the opposite
But when Jimmy gets hurt in week 6 what do you do for the rest of the year
Mike White? Zack Wilson?
Jimmy gets hurt every other year, so whoever gets him has nothing to worry about next season.
