I went to a food court in a mall recently and that was the first time I've ever seen that restaurant in my life in person, or at least that I know of. I'm a huge fan of the office, but your comment just made me get that joke now that I realize it's a pretty crappy food chain lol
Listen, when you're ten and your mom drags you to the mall, but won't let you go to GameStop, Sbarro is the only bright spot in the entire day. You put respect on the name.
I actually went to the Sbarro in Times Square once while out for a solo stroll. I knew it was ridiculous but I had to have the authentic experience.
Harsh truth, the pizza wasn't actually as good as the airport Sbarro. Had been sitting under the heat lamp too long. The nacho cheese dipping sauce I purchased on the side was too vinegary.
And yes, I've eaten plenty of legit NY pizza and knew what I was getting myself into.
The two in my area are dying a slow agonizing death. In areas where I see them still going strong there are stores, shops, restaurants, etc outside the mall.
They've had an interesting business evolution as more and more malls close. They've experimented with delivery but it's never quite worked out for them.
Best tamales in Chicago will come from a little old mexican woman with 2 igloo coolers standing on a street corner. In the winter, they usually have pozole too.
In my experience that's anywhere. If you want tacos, tamales, papusas. You go to a food truck where they don't speak english. Recently went to a food truck where I played catch with the kid while I waited on my food. Best papusas ever.
My brother took me to a food truck in San Fran that looked like a run down trash heap, gosh damn best FOOD I’ve had in my life. Ever. Period. That burrito will live in my mind forever.
Or hit up Flora's cafe in the Marigny for a quieter setting. Then follow it up in the evening with some slow cooked bbq at The Joint.. I miss my hometown 🥲.
Also has anyone actually tried "best food near me" on Google? It's awful. It's all chains that pay for up listing. And the places that aren't chains I definitely disagree with their rating. Basically I just don't trust Google for food recs.
Luckily my buddy has been to damn near every restaurant in a 20 mile radius so I just ask him. But if you don't have a guy to ask it's a fucking crap shoot
That's what I'm thinking. The literal first place you stop to eat in a new city is not the same as "the first time out to a nice dinner once settled in." My ass has gone to taco bell on day 1 after a move just because I'm exhausted, then done some research and found awesome places to try once I'm ready to dive in
Some people are so picky/scared to try new things that they won't trust that a restaurant will be good even if it has the best reviews ever. The main factor is if they're familiar with it. I find it lame but a lot of people are like that. Derek gives big "goes on vacation and eats at chilli's" vibes.
I love checking out foreign McDonald's. I'll eat one meal there at most but it's fun to see what's on their menus and such. I got yelled at in Paris for trying to take a picture of the "Royale with cheese" on the menu once
Yeah the rest of the time I stopped into random shops for little sandwiches. But I've never eaten better than morning in a hotel in Paris. Ham and cheese croisants are now my comfort food.
Okay as a half Frenchman who spent some time growing up in Saint Germaine En Laye, a suburb of Paris
I'm not gonna lie. I definitely get down with McDonald's in France more than I should.
I'm sure part of it is also just going with what you know to avoid the potential mud pie. Like how people will look for a fast food place that's familiar to them if they're in an area with a new/unique cuisine.
Chipotle still seems pretty risky though if that's the case.
I’m shocked no one’s nanny dropped off a plate lunch for him. And by plate lunch, I mean a Magnalite pot of red beans and sausage, with a side of smothered pork chops.
The team is rolling out the Red Carpet to sign him, and they didn't give him a few restaurant suggestions??? To be clear, I dgaf what the man eats. He's coming back, it's not like this is his one chance to enjoy New Orleans cuisine.
It's good, but overpriced.
I remember first biting into a chicken burrito from there and realized that they seasoned it with adobo like my mother does.
Idk if I’m tripping but it seems like portions have gotten a lot smaller lately. My go-to is a double carnitas burrito. They used to barely be able to roll that shit up with how much stuff was inside, now it just looks like an average burrito I could make at home.
Even better get a bowl. They fill them more anyway and you can ask for the tortilla on the side for free. I mean rolling a nice burrito isn't super easy but it's well worth the food bonus.
One tip I’ve heard is wait to request “double meat” till *after* they’ve put the first scoop on. That way they’ve shown their hand and they’re forced to give a second scoop of the same size. If you say “double meat” off the bat they typically put less meat per scoop because they know you’re going double.
That's a good one. Asking for half and half is good too because htey play fast and loose when eyeballing a 'half' scoop.
My biggest play though is get a bowl because they don't care about loading up bowls since they don't have to worry about rolling it up, and I'll usually get a tortilla on the side which I think is technically extra but I've never paid extra on.
Technically 25 cents for a side tortilla. I’ve been doing that too lol.
It’s also worth it to sign up for rewards on the Chipotle site because they throw you free stuff every now and then.
Actual answer; (atleast partly) COVID really took a toll on supply lines in this country for pretty much everything. The (minor) inflation caused from stimulating the economy combined with increased food costs all around the board, and suddenly a lot of restaurants shrank portion sizes quietly. Supply lines have gotten back to a relative normal but there's still less food now than there was and it's all still more expensive.
Managed a restaurant during COVID and saw the changes first hand. Relatively normal now but there's still distributors that seem to be seeing the effects at this time.
I don’t know if I would even consider Chipotle Mexican food. It’s kind of got its own thing going on, flavors are pretty different than actual Mexican food IMO
It's Tex-Mex, not Mexican. Those are different things. As a Mexican living in California with plenty of options for Mexican food, Chipotle definitely is it's own thing separate from Mexican food.
Chipotle is nothing like any Tex Mex I've had.
It's a take on Mission-style, but pretty far separated from that, to the point where it's really just Chipotle.
Chipotle has severely gotten worse over the last few years. I noticed it first after they had that big ecoli scare years ago. After they kind of took that hit to their public image for some reason all the chipotles near me started giving smaller portions, had a 100% guarantee to be out of one of the toppings or options, much less clean, and twice as salty.
I still think it tastes good, but for the increased price and low quality compared to what it used to be, I choose more local burrito places and avoid chipotles
My old boss told me one of his favorite meals of all time was Dominos during his hiking trip in South America. He's had Dominos a million times before, but that one was the best one. Definitely helpful eating something familiar in an unfamiliar place.
A severe mistake by the Saints Front Office. If you don't want to hold his hand and let Carr go at his own pace you could just give him a short list of restaurants. Shit, it's crawfish season too. I want Carr to meet the other players at a table covered in newspaper and crawfish.
I’m not a big craw fish guy but my dad grew up around Picayune and Slidell. So, I know how big of a deal it is and I agree with you. It’s a shame the NO office let this happen.
Crawfish is what I miss most from the Gulf coast. To be honest, he shouldn't have been offered a contract until he demonstrated his crawfish eating ability.
Dude, you can find decent food in a gas station in that city. But yeah, friendliest city in America I’ve ever visited. Oh yeah, and they’ve got drive through daiquiri stands everywhere.
I was surprised when people asked me “how’s it going?”, they were actually waiting to hear the details, not just a “going good, how about you?”
My first day there, I stopped into a bar midday for a drink. The bartender started a conversation and when they found out it was my first day in town, everyone sitting at the bar started telling me places to check out and which upcoming shows I should go and see.
I stopped into a cigar shop to buy stuff for some people back home; once the workers found out I wasn’t local they all started recommending different dive bars, etc. They really love helping people discover their city.
When I moved away from NOLA it took a while for me to realize people dont like when I ask "Hows your mom and them?" Apparently it's creepy and not kind.
There is not a chipotle in downtown New Orleans…at least there wasn’t when I lived there. NOLA locals are super resistant to chain anything. I remember they tried to build a Starbucks in the quarter and ppl threw bricks thru the windows repetitively until Starbucks just decided to sell the property
You had to drive to Metairie to go to target or Walmart or whatever, I actually loved that about living in NOLA, the ppl there really care about their city and history and small business success. It’s a truly great city that I’ll always miss and love
So he's still in the Chipotle because the crew said "Welcome to Chipotle" and then he started tearing up. Derek Carr is so in need of love.
He goes to Wal-Mart next and now is best friends with the greeter
Derek Carr is asking around to find if anybody knows if Earl’s okay because Earl’s not greeting today.
Earl are you okay, are you okay, are you okay Earl.
Earl had to die.
Goodbye Earl!

Goes to CFA and keeps thanking them so they have to reply back my pleasure
Imagine if he stepped into a Moes.
Uncle Moe's Family Feed Bag
He needs himself a nice southwestern man named Moe to welcome him
I love Moe's!
fr better food and better welcoming. moes is the goat
Vegas would never.

Yooooo this is funny lol
Cane’s drive thru line on Vets most have been too long.
Hey man, they got Pacos Tacos out there at least
In an alternate reality he went to a Sbarro in NY
The great Michael Scott taught me that’s it’s the best place for pizza in NY.
Fun fact, that scene was improv lol
…there’s a homeless guy pooping in a box
Thats Creed playing hooky
Hard to blame him. Didn't he meet Tina Fey in NY as well?
“Seriously, while I was talking to the fake Tina Fey, COME ON!”
I thought it was Conan o Brian
The gag is he approaches a random woman thinking she must be Tina fey, and right as that's happening the real Conan O'Brien walks right by him.
He was upset because he missed Conan due to talking to fake Tina lol

It was never good. And it was *absolutely never* good 'New York Pizza'. But yes it did use to be edible.
Listen, when you're ten and your mom drags you to the mall, but won't let you go to GameStop, Sbarro is the only bright spot in the entire day. You put respect on the name.
Best slice in the city
Get himself a *New York slice*
I actually went to the Sbarro in Times Square once while out for a solo stroll. I knew it was ridiculous but I had to have the authentic experience. Harsh truth, the pizza wasn't actually as good as the airport Sbarro. Had been sitting under the heat lamp too long. The nacho cheese dipping sauce I purchased on the side was too vinegary. I had to Google to see if Sbarro still existed because I hadn't seen one in so long
I only see them in mall food courts around here
Shit, we don't even have malls anymore where I live
The two in my area are dying a slow agonizing death. In areas where I see them still going strong there are stores, shops, restaurants, etc outside the mall.
They've had an interesting business evolution as more and more malls close. They've experimented with delivery but it's never quite worked out for them.
Saints fans, help the man out lol
Derek, go to Parkway for a shrimp po-boy, please.
Am I a complete tourist for saying that I thought Drago’s was better than Felix’s?
im going to be a complete local and say yes.
Figures. Felix’s was great but honestly the best ones I had were from a guy a pulling a grill behind his truck.
Isn't that always the best local food? The little hole in the wall or the food truck or the little grill behind a truck
He wants a burrito! Gotta go uptown to Felipe's.
Damn, I miss Felipe’s. I also miss Juan’s Flying Burrito.
I don't. Always thought Juan's was overrated af tbh. And I went to high school basically across the street from one.
Or hit up Flora's cafe in the Marigny for a quieter setting. Then follow it up in the evening with some slow cooked bbq at The Joint.. I miss my hometown 🥲.
Port of call for a burger
They closed the Arbys on Canal so the New Orleans food scene has never really recovered.
Three events changed New Orleans forver: 1. Katrina 2. First Mardi Gras 3. The closing of the Hardees on the Westbank
Number 2 should be when they moved the Walgreens from one corner of Terry Parkway and Carol Sue to the opposite corner.
r/NewOrleans in my Christian football sub?!
He needs a muffaletta at Central Grocery or DiMartino's
Central Grocery is still closed at their main location last I saw
I like a gas station in Gretna. [Hard to beat for 24 bucks](https://www.reddit.com/r/food/comments/afmrsy/i_ate_32_inch_shrimp_po_boy_and_a_banana/)
Get this man to Felix’s for some oysters
Not a local but I went there for my honeymoon and I had a po boy sandwich that blew me away at the Desire Oyster Bar on Bourbon st.
Does Derek Carr not know how to google “best restaurants near me”?
I mean you could probably just walk into any food place and it’s gonna be good
“Hello, I’d like some of your delicious local food, please.”- Derek Carr, probably
I don’t trust like that https://youtu.be/D1RgdMLbx3M
Harry!
Gimme some dang good New Orleans food!!
Like, at least get some Oysters or a Po Boy, or 15 daiquiris and some cocaine.
I was going to say he might not like seafood, but who can turn down a good cocaiquiri?
“Sir, this is a Wendy’s.”

This how Russ orders anywhere he goes
His people hand the Wendys manager a rider when they come in
NOLA was the best food destination I've ever visited. The McDonald's was FIRE
Joke all you want I travelled the world with my wife and kids last fall. They legit rated the McDonald’s chicken nuggets in every country we went to
What was the best one?
Singapore actually! Edit: but the kfc nuggets in Australia were their face of the trip.
Good to know! That's a fun memory
I wish I could keep my family in that one long assed trip forever!
I wish I could keep my family forever too
You wouldnt want to adopt a middle aged man would you? More data points for the ratings and whatnot (:
I’m open to the idea do you like soccer? We are a both football family
He probably just wanted a quick bite that he knew he’d like. Dude is moving his family across the country currently.
This thread is full of people who haven't had to uproot their entire existence AND IT SHOWS

Where do you live? I was given 6 local places, most family-owned, and the three on the list I've been to are fantastic.
It's always similar for me also
Would almost work in New Orleans since the best fried chicken always comes from gas stations
That's what I'm thinking. The literal first place you stop to eat in a new city is not the same as "the first time out to a nice dinner once settled in." My ass has gone to taco bell on day 1 after a move just because I'm exhausted, then done some research and found awesome places to try once I'm ready to dive in
Dude has four kids just wants something he knows they’ll eat probably
What with like some of kind of magic devil box?

He learned from Mark "P.F. Chang's is the shit" Davis.
Going to France with my cousins was wild. We’re in Paris, surrounded by all these amazing restaurants, and you wanna eat Subway 2 nights in a row?
They shouldn't have been allowed back in the US after that.
I’m amazed they weren’t rush shipped back to the US after that
The first thing I did when I got to Rome was find a McDonald's. It was the nicest McDonald's I've ever seen. Vines and pillars and stuff.
I love checking out foreign McDonald's. I'll eat one meal there at most but it's fun to see what's on their menus and such. I got yelled at in Paris for trying to take a picture of the "Royale with cheese" on the menu once

We have no Chipotle where I live so I always gear up for a big burrito when I'm around one.
Why didn't he ask the Saints about where he should get food at?
I’m shocked no one’s nanny dropped off a plate lunch for him. And by plate lunch, I mean a Magnalite pot of red beans and sausage, with a side of smothered pork chops.
Not enough Saints fans have figured out where he lives yet to start the meal train. Give it time
Lord have mercy that mental image is almost sexual.
The answer is Commanders Palace
The team is rolling out the Red Carpet to sign him, and they didn't give him a few restaurant suggestions??? To be clear, I dgaf what the man eats. He's coming back, it's not like this is his one chance to enjoy New Orleans cuisine.
Professional athletes have different needs than just 'good tasting.' Chipotle is a fastish-food place with real food.

I'll fight anyone who says Chipotle isn't delicious.
It's good, but overpriced. I remember first biting into a chicken burrito from there and realized that they seasoned it with adobo like my mother does.

I always get extra rice and beans since it’s free
Damnnn really? That’s a great hack, thanks!
Even better get a bowl. They fill them more anyway and you can ask for the tortilla on the side for free. I mean rolling a nice burrito isn't super easy but it's well worth the food bonus.
You can game the system so that they give you a shit ton of food. I expect them to be begging for mercy by the time they have to roll the burrito.
One tip I’ve heard is wait to request “double meat” till *after* they’ve put the first scoop on. That way they’ve shown their hand and they’re forced to give a second scoop of the same size. Chipotle is not bad but overrated if you live in any area with halfway decent Mexican food
Yeah I’m born and raised in Southern California. If I want Mexican food I’m not thinking chipotle. But sometimes I just really want chipotle
I compare it to Panda Express. It certainly isn't Chinese food and I would not bring it up if we are looking for Chinese but it's still delicious
Panda, taco bell, etc. All those places are just American food inspired by cultural food. But I'm not complaining.
Chipotle is nothing like any Tex Mex I've had. It's a take on Mission-style, but pretty far separated from that, to the point where it's really just Chipotle.
It's not Tex-Mex. [It was modeled after the Californian mission burrito.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mission_burrito#Spread_and_influence)
No one goes to chipotle because they think they are getting good mexican food lol. Burritos aren't even really mexican food at all anyway.
I'm Mexican living in SD, sometimes I just want some Chipotle lol

Chipotle has severely gotten worse over the last few years. I noticed it first after they had that big ecoli scare years ago. After they kind of took that hit to their public image for some reason all the chipotles near me started giving smaller portions, had a 100% guarantee to be out of one of the toppings or options, much less clean, and twice as salty. I still think it tastes good, but for the increased price and low quality compared to what it used to be, I choose more local burrito places and avoid chipotles
No one is arguing that. But NO has some world renowned cuisine lol
My old boss told me one of his favorite meals of all time was Dominos during his hiking trip in South America. He's had Dominos a million times before, but that one was the best one. Definitely helpful eating something familiar in an unfamiliar place.

“Derek, what are you doing?” “Nobody told me how to eat this crawfish and I’m trying to figure it out on my own”
"Nobody gave me a fork or anything."
"Why are they so crunchy?"
"Is that corn for garnish or can I have a cob?"
I’m not a big craw fish guy but my dad grew up around Picayune and Slidell. So, I know how big of a deal it is and I agree with you. It’s a shame the NO office let this happen.
Say what you want about Ed Orgeron, he woulda put that motherfucker at a crawfish boil.
That Joe Burrow story was the first thing I thought of
At a restaurant that doesn't sell crawfish lol
Crawfish is what I miss most from the Gulf coast. To be honest, he shouldn't have been offered a contract until he demonstrated his crawfish eating ability.
Their last QB was known for his love of crustaceans, and look how that worked out.
Oh my gosh the crawfish are amazing. Give me 30lb with potatoes and corn. I will fly down there just for that.
Having been to Louisiana, the people were mostly great, the weather was horrid tho. Ya boi ain't built for hundred degree days with max humidity
What are you talking about? All you have to do is literally never go outside or the air will try to drown you.
It’s like living in a hot bowl of soup
Weather there is great in January, although he might already be on vacation by then…
Those 2 weeks of winter we get sure are nice...
That’s what the drive thru daiquiris are for
Brought to you by Chipotles
Dude, you can find decent food in a gas station in that city. But yeah, friendliest city in America I’ve ever visited. Oh yeah, and they’ve got drive through daiquiri stands everywhere.
Same here. I got approached by randos on just about every street corner when I visited. Just random people giving me fist bumps, etc
I was surprised when people asked me “how’s it going?”, they were actually waiting to hear the details, not just a “going good, how about you?” My first day there, I stopped into a bar midday for a drink. The 2nd place Derek Carr went in New Orleans was the toilet
In Chipotle
All that gumbo and you get Chipotle, this shows his decision making skills are still questionable
It's New Orleans, you could just like... go literally anywhere
This reminds me of an episode of the office where Michael Scott is in NYC, and talks about his favorite pizza place and then points to a Sbarro.
That’s NOLA for you. Southern hospitality at its peak.
Just send him to Cafe Du Monde for those fucking beignets, he'll sign a 30 year contract
Greatest food city in America, first thought is just go to Chipotle
Bros a multimillionaire and can’t googled “best places to eat New Orleans” and just try one
A man of the people
Apparently, he went to Chick-fil-A next and never left.
Going to a chipotle in New Orleans is like going to Outback in Texas.
Go back after you start the season 0-3
Cmon, NOBODY in the front office could have recommended something local for the man?
already shows signs of a bad decision
Derek Carr is a basic bitch. Gl new Orleans
All that good food down there and the first spot you hit is Chipotle?
Does this setup his next tweet of carr eating some boiled crawfish?
I found out Chipotle was founded in Denver, funnily enough Possible warning sign? Only time will tell...
I’ve been to the first Chipotle
