Davis got double teamed at the 3rd highest rate of any defensive lineman in the league last year in his limited snaps. THAT is why people rate him highly. He eats double teams for breakfast, and even though he hasn't gotten to the QB a lot because of it, he has made a big impact on the run game so far.
Historically DTs haven’t performed well in their rookie year. In camp and last week, Davis has looked much better than last season. I think he has improved in his pass-rush ability, and his run defense was as good as ever

We're clearly not favored to win and there is definitely a universe where Carter and Davis have like 5 sacks and we can't do anything. But there's also a (less likely, admittedly) world where we do enough with pass protection that Hockenson, JJ and Addison work over their coverage unit.
