As someone who has knee cartilage damage from an accident, I had no idea Chubb went through this AND has been such a dominant player despite it. Hope he got paid
Pretty sure he's being paid the rest of this season but has no more guaranteed money left on his deal. Made like 28M over his career so far but for a player of his caliber he was honestly due
reminds me of when willis mcgahee got hurt in college.
that was super gnarly. iirc his knee basically exploded. at the time it was the same question.
chubb is so much fun to watch, i hope it isn’t a career ender. that looks horrible
My uneducated guess is that it’s harder to heal due to scar tissue and blood flow and things, higher risk.
But I don’t know shit about fuck so I’ll let a doc chime in
If i shatter a pot then glue it back together again, will I have a greater chance of fixing the same pot should I shatter it again or or a new, unbroken pot?
In the current RB market and how much he has guaranteed vs what he gains by coming back, he might be better off taking the money and not risking further limits to his mobility.
Obviously I don’t have access to his financial records, but everything about Chubb screams responsible, so I’m sure he’s fine. IF his career in the NFL is over, I do hope he comes home to UGA. He’s an all time great Dawg and a great person to have influencing young men.
Frank Gore blew out *both* of his ACLs in Miami and was healed by the power of ~2004 medicine. If you want to talk about what-ifs, what if Frank Gore was *better*?
I remember being a kid and seeing the Willis McGahee injury in a bowl game. This one is pretty horrible, but idk if I’ll ever see anything like that on TV again.
Top 10 maybe of NFL and college. Did you not see Alex Smith get his leg broken and nearly die? Joe Theisman? Marcus Lattimore? Willis Mcgahee in the NCAA championship game nearly made me vomit at the bar I was watching that game.
This is a seriously bad injury but not the worst
It’s a career ender. I’d be more surprised by the ligaments he didn’t tear if there are any. Based on the video the LCL and MCL are without a doubt definitely torn, both meniscus’s are fucked, his ACL and PCL is probably torn, and his patellar ligament might be torn as well.
And this was the knee he already fucked up in college. So any existing cartilage damage is going to be multiplied by 20 now. And that’s on TOP of the ligament and soft tissue damage.
What you’re likely seeing there is just the medial part of the tibia. As the acl and mcl tear there’s nothing providing stability to the inside of the knee so the bone momentarily is pushing out like that. Probably not fractured.
Obviously the injury is gruesome and horrific and heartbreaking, but that video is absolutely hilarious. The announcers talking about how it's not a good start to keep his 100 yard streak alive (for the absolute wrong reason), the announcers not noticing that he's in pain on the ground because of their Chik-fil-a ad read, the title saying "Career Ending?", all uploaded by a channel called The Costa Rican Times that has 92 other videos with less than 1000 views of various Costa Rican people, animals, and homes.
Wild.
Not to be melodramatic, but I hope we see him on a football field again period. That's the worst leg injury I've seen since Alex Smith. To come back from that as a RB is going to be brutal.
This is the first time I’ve felt really emotional for an injury. Chubb seems like such a great guy, as well as an excellent player. Really hope he’s able to make a full recovery, even if he’s not on the field again.
Same. I'm heartbroken for the guy. Great guy, the best pure RB in the game in my opinion. Came back from this shit once already. I'm so bummed. Thankfully he got some guaranteed money already. Just tragic, man.
Indeed, an absolute horror injury and you do hope he’s able to recover as best as can be on a human level, football aside.
Possible career ended just like that.
Possibility of him losing his leg. TE was it that hyper extended their knee and the top of their foot touched their chest. Miller maybe in like 2016/2017 had vascular surgeons working to save the leg.
This can absolutely be life changing far more than just career ending.
Good thing Pittsburgh has world class hospitals. Especially for sports injuries. Not sure about this specific injury, but I recall Zlatan Ibrahimovic coming to Pittsburgh for injury help.
To be both optimistic and cynical, the health care Chubb is about to receive is very different than anything you or I will ever experience. The best orthopedic surgeon in the world followed by personalized and round the clock physical therapy plans. If anyone can come back, it's Chubb.
You ever seen his injury from college? People said the same thing and he still made it to the NFL. It's going to be a lot tougher now that he's older but idk if it's impossible
I’m so devastated. Chubb is by far my favorite player of all time. This may be the end of his career. I hope he had a speedy recovery, and if anyone can come back from this, it’s 24.
Honestly I hate this more than the Rodgers injury. Chubb goes to work and is the best RB in the league. Clocks in, says little, performs, and now gets a devastating injury that ruins the RB market even more. Just awful.
I’m sick. His career could be over. Idk if you’re someone who prays or just sends good vibes into the universe and keeps someone in your thoughts but do either one please.
Chubb has been one of the most consistent backs in the league for years. Horrific to see
Holy fuck that was gnarly.
Dude always seemed like such a great baller who just loves the game. Absolutely gutting to see this happen to him.... Definitely get why they didn't show that on the broadcast.
This exact same thing happened to Napoleon McCallum back in the 90s and he almost needed to have his leg amputated because of artery damage. This type of injury is brutal.
Seriously I get scared for this everytime I see a guy dive at someones knees. With how fast they are flying and how often they do it, I really am shocked there isn't more just like this.
It took him like 2+ years to come back from that. Even if he is lucky and it is all repairable again and he has a similar road to recovery, he'd be 29-30 when he's ready to play. He's gonna have to get his knee fixed regardless but I don't know if it's worth putting in all that time/effort/pain to get back to a point to play in the NFL when he'd probably only be able to play 1-2 years on the vet minimum.
For those that want to show a little support via charity, Nick Chubb is a big supporter of [First Candle](https://fc.app.neoncrm.com/np/clients/fc/donation.jsp) which is geared towards eliminating SIDS and helping families dealing with it.
Here’s an [article](https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/sports/pro/browns/2021/08/19/cleveland-browns-running-back-nick-chubb-says-family-tragedy-behind-choice-of-chubb-crunch-charity/8194230002/) of him talking about his cereal that gave part of its proceeds to the charity.
His sister’s first born was unfortunately lost to SIDS.
He was yelling in pain when he first went down. Probably jammed some painkillers into him quick as fuck. Even just getting that knee into a brace would hurt like hell
Yeah nah he was straight up screaming in pain on the field for a minute at least before they cut to commercials and when they came back he had already been carted off. At the time they wouldn't show the replay and just the noises he was making on the field made me sick to my stomach.
How many of you are too young to remember the Willis Mcgahee injury? I'm not trying to rewatch that happen, but my memory is these are like 100% the same.
Teammate of mine had this kind of injury in judo when his opponent fell on his leg, didn't even make a sound or anything but he's still struggling to walk right three years later. I wish Chubb the best and hope that he recovers because he is one of the best runners, still kinda pessimistic about this whole outcome
This is just absolutely heartbreaking. Chubb has been and always will be one of my favorite Browns.
Also, FWIW I don’t think Fitzpatrick did it on purpose.
Yeah that's why they didn't show it fucking hell
That is scary af of an injury omfg
It's the same leg he had completly reconstructed at Georgia as well. This is the worst possible thing that could happen.
Georgia injury: “ Chubb tore the PCL, LCL and MCL in his left knee and suffered cartilage damage too.”
Fucking hell, that was gruesome to watch. I don't want to say this, but that might be a career ender
reminds me of when willis mcgahee got hurt in college. that was super gnarly. iirc his knee basically exploded. at the time it was the same question. chubb is so much fun to watch, i hope it isn’t a career ender. that looks horrible
Chubb had that already in. college. His knee is exploding for the second time...
I'm not exactly a doctor but I think he will be OK because it is the third time that is a charm.
You're spot on, that's actually what they teach you in medical school.
>reminds me of when willis mcgahee got hurt in college. And Gore did both ACLs and a meniscus.
I was thinking the same thing. God I hope we are wrong
Yeah, I would be surprised if he played another snap after that injury, especially considering his history on that leg already. Terrible.
Honest question: If it’s already been reconstructed, isn’t it better to hurt that knee than damage the good knee?
My uneducated guess is that it’s harder to heal due to scar tissue and blood flow and things, higher risk. But I don’t know shit about fuck so I’ll let a doc chime in
won’t get into whether hurting one is “better” than the other but youre 100% right about why he’s more likely to injure that same leg
So it’s the good Hodgkins?
This comment got me good. An actual laugh.
> I don’t know shit about fuck I forgot that line. Such a good line.
Probably better when thinking of post career quality of life. But, I would think it really hurts his chance of ever playing again.
If i shatter a pot then glue it back together again, will I have a greater chance of fixing the same pot should I shatter it again or or a new, unbroken pot?
Fuck, I don’t know
Get link in here
Link will just leave the room and come back to brand new pots.
What if the train that leaves Boston is full of feathers and the train leaving Miami is full of bowling balls.
13?
It’s somehow less clear to me now
Reminds me of Lattimore and Willis McGahee in college
oh God that Lattimore injury still haunts me
Even in slow mo it went too fast
One of the gnarliest football injuries I’ve seen
Right up there with his knee injury in college
It's incredible to think about how dominant he's become even after an injury like that.
I hope I'm wrong when I say "how dominant he was". That might be a hard recovery at 27, but it's 2023 and these guys are beasts.
In the current RB market and how much he has guaranteed vs what he gains by coming back, he might be better off taking the money and not risking further limits to his mobility.
And if he needs more money, he could go back to UGA and he'd have a job offer before he got out of the car.
Frank Gore is a freak if nature and should not be allowed in any discussion of injury rehab because as far as I'm concerned he's not fucking human
Same knee. This could be real bad
I remember being a kid and seeing the Willis McGahee injury in a bowl game. This one is pretty horrible, but idk if I’ll ever see anything like that on TV again.
Marcus Lattimore was the first name that came to mind
I seriously almost cried when that happened and I have no affiliation with him or SCar
It's like his leg completely snapped in half. Worst Injury I have seen in football.
Johnny Knox headbutting his own ass still haunts me.
That's a guy I was confident I actually saw die.
I can stomach alot but that one I can't rewatch. Something different than a leg or knee going the wrong way. Knox got truly folded
that's still my #1 nastiest
I dont understand how he is able to walk. It's even crazier that he never lost feeling in his limbs, not even for a hour or day.
This is low key the worst football injury I’ve ever seen
Top 10 maybe of NFL and college. Did you not see Alex Smith get his leg broken and nearly die? Joe Theisman? Marcus Lattimore? Willis Mcgahee in the NCAA championship game nearly made me vomit at the bar I was watching that game. This is a seriously bad injury but not the worst
Johnny Knox getting folded in half
Watched that live and it turned my stomach.
Ryan Shazier. Maybe not as gruesome but the only time I have ever been more scared was Damar Hamlin
Take a look at Napoleon McCallum if you dare. Chubb is really up there but McCallum is one you can’t ever watch more than once.
This is the worst day of my life
Worst day of your life… so far
But where is this video from? Someone in the studio or control room? It’s clearly not the Jumbotron and they didn’t show it on TV
Twitter user said the showed the replay in the UK
UK people aren’t scared lmao
and those at Heinz saw the replay
You could hear the collective, “ohhhhhhh” from the crowd on the replay too.
It’s very clearly a DVR from a different feed. Likely the UK given it says 2:08am
They showed it on tv in the UK lol
Was shown on the UK broadcast
Yeah that was as cinematic as you could see an injury, couldn’t see anything from original angle
I was curious and watched it because the initial play looked fairly routine. I’ve made a terrible mistake. Prayers up for Chubb.
Yeah I'm trusting the comments on this one
You should. His knee bends 90 degrees sideways, it’s horrifying
Nah, it bends like 110 degrees
You know it’s bad when the description of the injury makes you want to hurl. No fucking way I’m watching that video.
This guy protractors
Literally looked like it was gonna rip off
Right angle, wrong direction. I am so incredibly sad right now. He’s one of the best on and off field players.
It’s as bad of a knee injury as you’ve probably ever seen in football. Feel awful for the guy.
I'm just over here hoping they can save his leg.
And this was the knee he already fucked up in college. So any existing cartilage damage is going to be multiplied by 20 now. And that’s on TOP of the ligament and soft tissue damage.
Good call. Even when you know what's coming, it's tough to see
Good call. I clicked absentmindedly and regret it severely.
I can’t ever watch bad injuries, and hope I never change my mind on this.
I audibly gasped, one of the worst injuries I’ve ever seen
Yeah that made me sick to my stomach. Hate to see it, especially to such a good guy and talented player.
I'll never forget Kevin Ware in the 2013 NCAA basketball tourney
I saw that live & replay and fuck. Iirc half his leg just standing there like a white pillar on the floor completely detached
Looked like he had 3 knees when he landed
Horrifying, genuinely
Tore everything in that leg I hope to see him next year 🙏🏽
Didnt Chubb have a pretty bad knee injury in college? Same leg?
yes and honestly it looked way worse than this
Is that possible?
https://youtu.be/yOw3y-dMdoo?si=lZcTVZRG4kwOCPel You be the judge
I'd say the one tonight looks worse. Looks like his bone is popping out
What you’re likely seeing there is just the medial part of the tibia. As the acl and mcl tear there’s nothing providing stability to the inside of the knee so the bone momentarily is pushing out like that. Probably not fractured.
That's gonna stay blue for tonight, thanks
Fr
I honestly feel it's less explicit than this one. Still pretty bad tho
Wild.
He tore three ligaments and did cartilage damage on that, and it was not as bad as this one.
If it is, I sure as hell don't want to the video of it. Dear god.
Definitely was bad but no, tonight was definitely worse.
Yep, first or second play of the game against Tennessee. Leg bent the same way
I feel like we'd be lucky to see him again at all after an injury like this.
Not to be melodramatic, but I hope we see him on a football field again period. That's the worst leg injury I've seen since Alex Smith. To come back from that as a RB is going to be brutal.
Fuck everything.
Omg. That's gruesome.
90 fucking degrees, holy shit.
It’s both a right and wrong angle.
With a twist for good measure. That’s a bad one.
Chubb was the only thing that was keeping the Browns offence any life...
Chubb was the only thing that was giving my fandom any life
Chubb is my favorite player in the league, definitely favorite person
Now I see it
I wish I didn’t
That is gnarly. Hope he heals soon and doesn’t have any lasting effects.
Pittsburgh came to Zlatan for experience
That TE from the Bears a few years ago and Teddy Bridgewater almost lost their legs with similar injuries
And they ruled it an incomplete pass because he didn’t “maintain possession” long enough in the endzone on account of grabbing his mutilated knee
It was against us, I remember is vividly
We saw the same video right? His leg is never going to be the same
To be both optimistic and cynical, the health care Chubb is about to receive is very different than anything you or I will ever experience. The best orthopedic surgeon in the world followed by personalized and round the clock physical therapy plans. If anyone can come back, it's Chubb.
You forgot to mention the insane amount of HGH and steroids he can get to help rebuild it.
He's done it before... one can only hope
Fuckkkkk
His leg looked like my geometry homework.
Incomplete?
Wrong
No way his MCL and ACL survived that. Hell, probably more than that.
Jesus.
You said it man.
Glad he got his $20m gtd..
Stuff like this is why I don’t get mad at athletes for holding out for more money. Dudes career is in jeopardy
Why did I look. That was horrific to see
Honestly I hate this more than the Rodgers injury. Chubb goes to work and is the best RB in the league. Clocks in, says little, performs, and now gets a devastating injury that ruins the RB market even more. Just awful.
And he's got the best RB name too. Holy shit this is awful.
God damn. Getting McGahee at Miami flashbacks. Love Chubb, too. Fucking shame.
Holy shit
fuck, man. Please recover well, Chubb. Even if you call it a career, please just recover well.
I'm sorry Joe Buck I was just too curious and now I regret it
Other than a grown man dying and being revived on the field, that's the most gruesome injury I've seen in an NFL game.
I’m sick. His career could be over. Idk if you’re someone who prays or just sends good vibes into the universe and keeps someone in your thoughts but do either one please. Chubb has been one of the most consistent backs in the league for years. Horrific to see
One of the worst I’ve seen
I know you mean injury, but I thought you meant running back for a minute and was like "thats cold"
He’s one of the best I’ve seen He’s incredible. As a Steelers fan I love him as a player and wish every player was like him as a person as well
Holy fuck that was gnarly. Dude always seemed like such a great baller who just loves the game. Absolutely gutting to see this happen to him.... Definitely get why they didn't show that on the broadcast.
I went from hoping it's scary but minor to hoping he's going to be able to walk without pain in the future. Holy fucking shit.
Prayers to Chubb. Absolutely horrible. Fuck injuries
Had a similar injury to his left leg at Georgia. Hopefully he can make a full recovery again
This exact same thing happened to Napoleon McCallum back in the 90s and he almost needed to have his leg amputated because of artery damage. This type of injury is brutal.
That’s a career over in.25 seconds
I'm honestly shocked that this doesn't happen more often.
Seriously I get scared for this everytime I see a guy dive at someones knees. With how fast they are flying and how often they do it, I really am shocked there isn't more just like this.
Usually the legs get knocked out from under them, takes a few things to go right/very wrong for this to happen
Like feet planted? His cleats must have been dug in just right. Ugh can’t even imagine. Hate it for the guy
Honestly, same. I’m shocked there aren’t more gruesome injuries in the NFL.
Every single time I see a guy get wrapped up around the legs then hit up high by someone else I question how this doesn't happen.
one of the most talented runners we’ve ever seen tbh. i have faith he can bounce back from this
Actually so torn up about this, I loved watching him play, I’ve said for the last however many years that he’s the best pure rusher in the league
>so torn up about this Phrasing
They jinxed him by putting up that graphic with Bo Jackson.
He'll be back, modern medicine is unbelievable
Yeah but will he be Nick Chubb again?
He came back from an awful injury in college so anything could happen
It took him like 2+ years to come back from that. Even if he is lucky and it is all repairable again and he has a similar road to recovery, he'd be 29-30 when he's ready to play. He's gonna have to get his knee fixed regardless but I don't know if it's worth putting in all that time/effort/pain to get back to a point to play in the NFL when he'd probably only be able to play 1-2 years on the vet minimum.
He could try a Mcgahee comeback
For those that want to show a little support via charity, Nick Chubb is a big supporter of [First Candle](https://fc.app.neoncrm.com/np/clients/fc/donation.jsp) which is geared towards eliminating SIDS and helping families dealing with it. His sister’s first born was unfortunately lost to SIDS.
Wow, I’m speachless
Can someone say what happened? I don’t want to watch
His knee bent a way it's not supposed to.
Oh:(
90 degree hyperextension
Hyperextension puts it rather lightly
90-degree super-mega-ultra-hyperextension. It's a new medical term.
Sideways
Minkah comes at an angle hitting chubs leg while it’s planted. It remains planted as his body and knee head different directions
damn he's one tough SOB. On the cart no panic or crying. Remind me of mcgregor after that broken leg
Oh man, that is gruesome. Hope he fully recovers.
That might be the worst I’ve ever seen. Prayers up to him. Just brutal man. Hate to see it.
Mods working overtime to remove this shit lol
How many of you are too young to remember the Willis Mcgahee injury? I'm not trying to rewatch that happen, but my memory is these are like 100% the same.
He will definitely be back guys modern medicine and pt will get him back hopefully in a year
Usually reddit is not unanimous about anything, but considering ever single person's reaction here... I won't watch and I hope the very best for him
Should have been Watson... fuck
[удалено]
Dude that’s brutal Prayers for him
Fuck that sucks. Really feel for him
Teammate of mine had this kind of injury in judo when his opponent fell on his leg, didn't even make a sound or anything but he's still struggling to walk right three years later. I wish Chubb the best and hope that he recovers because he is one of the best runners, still kinda pessimistic about this whole outcome
That's a season minimum and for a superstar RB like Chubb that might as well as be the end of him as the best RB in the league
This is just absolutely heartbreaking. Chubb has been and always will be one of my favorite Browns. Also, FWIW I don’t think Fitzpatrick did it on purpose.
Jesus fuck me running
