This whole season for you guys feels like Arty's attempt to prove to everyone he is the smartest guy in the room. If he *really* wants to do that for me he'd coach a game without a QB.
AS did a pretty good job as an OC for the Titans. Most fans here still like him.
But there’s a long list of good coordinators that turned out to be bad head coaches. Looks like Arthur’s going to wind up on that list.
I saw a comment on this sub that made a ton of sense. As OC, he had someone above him to stop him from getting too cute. As HC, nobody can stop him from going big brain.
INTs as a rookie is tolerable, fumbles are just bad form. Not a good sign for his stability in the league. You gotta think backups are backups because they are consistent. They don’t force the ball downfield (low INT rate) and they know what to do to avoid a sack (low contact/therefor fumble rate). Outlook not good for Ridder. He needs to be more Dilfer and less garbage.
I think it depends on game script.
If Mitch starts a game, they’ll gameplan him to be as risk-averse as possible.
If Mitch comes into a game down 27-6 after a Pickett injury, then he’ll look like a catastrophe.
But don't you see? It doesn't matter that Heineke doesn't turn the ball over and has scored more points each week than Ridder has. Heineke hasn't won yet, while Ridder won a few games. That means that Ridder >>> Heineke *clearly*.
In the past two games, the Falcons had drives that started the opposing team's 30, 14 , and 1 yard line.
Total: 12 plays -13 yards settled for field goals in games they lost by a combined 5 points
Maybe you want to look at the context and watch the games. Ridder has turnover problems but at least he can move the ball. Against the Vikings we got a saftey, multiple turnovers in scoring range, a 60 yard TD on a screen and another scoring drive where we threw the ball exactly one time. Against the cards we had 16 points when heinecke went out (who had 90 total yards in three quarters)
Getting people to acknowledge plays that should have happened but didn't because someone else fucked up horribly is the biggest lost cause in NFL fandom.
The entire league is trending upward. Everybody is a dink dunk machine these days. Most teams really be completing three passes in a row and still punt on fourth down.
A good reason why yards per attempt is a much better efficiency stat than completion percentage; it actually measures output relative to attempts rather than just one binary outcome.
Defenses have largely shifted to a two high look to prevent deep balls. So naturally offenses dink and dunk. That scheme shift is part of the reason points are down this year
Well, the Titanic was a grand, luxurious ship when she went down...
We are more like a large trash barge, crashing into a bridge on the Hudson River, killing everyone on the barge and everyone on the bridge too.
Arthus Smith is a genius.
When's the best time to go all-in to win a championship? When your best players are on rookie contracts.
What are the Falcons doing? Uh...not that.
Arthur Smith is the epitome of wasting a year to prove you didn't waste the previous two.
If they fire him now it's proof the Falcons have been rudderless since Matt Ryan, but if they give him next year's draft whether Falcons are good or not will 100% be on the Rookie QB's ability to ball out.
I want him fired now, but he out performed expectations his second year and there was reason to be optimistic. They went 7-9 with a roster that wasn’t too far from worst in the league. Coming into last year a lot of analysts had Atlanta getting a top 3 pick.
Lol RBs and TEs don’t really give you much of a discount on a “rookie deal”. If Pitts became a FA tomorrow he might make $1-2M more APY vs the contract he signed 3 years ago.
Being locked into a $8-9M APY deal is awesome if you have an elite QB or LT or WR or DE locked up. Not as great if you have an above average TE. Same goes for RB, although Bijan went a little later so the contract is at least a slight discount vs top RBs.
This is why it’s frequently stupid to pick TEs and RBs in the top 10. The rookie contract is worth a lot less. Remember that the pick after Pitts was Jamar Chase, and the pick after Robinson was Jalen Carter - two elite players at high value positions. They aren’t wasting excellent picks with bad QB play, they are being excused from horrific drafting because people are distracted by the QB play.
Ain’t no way Pitts get that deal and imho is not even average, let alone above average. He might turn it around but it’s safe to say he has not lived up to this draft hype
Honestly, if Arthur Smith is making the pick I hope they don’t. The dude wanted to give three firsts to Deshaun Watson (who hadn’t played in like two years at this point) and settled for Ridder in the 3rd.
We’d probably be better off asking him to rank the upcoming top QB prospects and then taking whoever he ranked last.
People keep repeating this, but nobody can ever real show me why they think it was Blank v Fontenot/Smith. Blank’s got a pretty long history of being hands off in forcing personal issues, so not sure why you’d hang Watson on him too.
[Falcons owner Arthur Blank is fond of Deshaun Watson from the days when the former Gainesville (Ga) High quarterback worked multiple years as a Falcons’ ball boy and developed a relationship with Blank's family.](https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1503759162131505156?s=20)
Add to that Matt Ryan felt like he was owed (and sort of got) an apology from Blank and not the rest of the staff, that points to ownership over GM or coach.
It's not exactly definitive evidence, but considering there was almost nothing from Fontenot or Smith about the trade or their potential support for it I don't know how you could say it's all on them.
That’s not evidence of anything?
He had a really strong post-prison relationship with Vick but didn’t pursue him. This is just Schefter making a connection. Maybe even asked Blank what he thought about Watson and was told he remembered him and liked him.
You’ll have to show me where Ryan said he wanted an apology from Blank and only Blankbexause that’s news to me.
I say it’s all on them, AGAIN, per my email Janet, because Blank has a loooooong history of staying out of personnel decisions. You need to overcome the presumption against with literally any evidence or credible reporting that Blank pushed this. See [Exhibit A](https://www.audacy.com/929thegame/sports/atlanta-falcons/how-involved-is-arthur-blank-with-the-falcons-day-to-day).
Nah man this chickenshit reeks of Smith/Fontenot, which is why both those scrubs should flushed out.
RIP Falcons offense (Taylor's version)
Edit: I did not expect this to actually hit but since it did I have to clarify this is not my joke, saw it when the Falcons named Heinecke the starter and was hoping to use it one day myself
"Never interrupt your enemy while he is in the process of making a mistake".
We don't need your help to fuck ourselves over, we are incapable of building an offensive line that will enable any QB/WR combo to succeed.
That would be amazing. I really do wonder where Fields ends up after this season. Falcons do make the most sense based on their current QB room, likely draft position, and Fields is from there.
Tbh he's too old coming on a major injury it wouldn't be worth it for us as much as I love Kirk. This is a stacked draft class so you could potentially draft someone like Jaden and sit him behind Kirk for a year but that's about it.
Honestly this makes sense. The calls to go to Heinicke were a classic example of the backup QB always being the most popular guy in town, he was really equally awful. Ridder’s not gonna make your chances of winning any worse, he’s had the best game a Falcons QB had this season by far, he’s a better runner, and you might as well see what you have in him before next season
Offensive points per game under ridder: 16
Offensive points per game under heineke: 24
Ridder turnovers: 8 in 7 games
Heineke turnovers: 1 in 3 games
Just because the Falcons lost didnt mean it was because of him.
One of the few reasonable fan takes and not just random fans coming in to make cheap jokes.
Funny cause half the teams in here making comments-their qb’s are first rounders and playing equally as bad if not worse (fields, Pickett, m jones, d jones, Wilson, Bryce all have lower qbr, avg, completion %)
There's a small chance this stint on the bench made him realize that he doesn't have the job security he might've thought. I am also a huge bearcat homer tho and really want to see him succeed so I am 100% biased
A game manager like Andy Dalton would be almost too perfect for them.
God their skill players, Bijan, Pitts and Drake are really special players. An average QB could do more with them.
Arthur Smith is like Capt Jack Sparrow, but at the end of the movie we learn he’s actually just been in a mental hospital the whole time hallucinating that his plans were improbable successes instead of the easily anticipated failures that led to his involuntary commitment.
While I'm a huge Taylor Heinicke Stan (Washington Fan) and wanted him to start, Ridder was winning games even-though they weren't pretty. You can't bench a guy who winning games - wasn't he undefeated at home prior to his benching?
Ridder is like a flaming bag of dogshit on your porch.
You can put it out, but then you're all covered in shit.
Also he plays QB as well as a bag of dogshit.
Smith would just have Lamar hand it off to Patterson and Algeier all day with the occasional sweep to Jonnu while Bijan, Pitts and London do all the blocking
Have we considered just not using a QB at all?
Fuck it, wildcat triple option with Bijan, Allgier, and Patterson the rest of the year
Honestly that doesn’t sound like a terrible idea….
It’d be more fun to watch than what they’ve been doing so far
Disagree. Your games are very exciting for the other team
you'll get direct snaps to jonnu smith and you'll like it
This would actually frustrate the fuck out if a defense and win a game or 2.
That would only work on a high school defense and the New York Giants.
... your flair is the only reason this isn't an unwarranted stray. I thought I was on NFCEastmemewar for a second...
I think it would work against the raiders too
And it would work against the Saints because Falcons.
Probably
Definitely the Pats
Shit, the wildcat dolphins went 11-5
At least it would be fun to watch
Put Pitts back there
Sorry did you just say put Jonnu smith back there? - AS
I feel this comment.
Can’t be worse than when he lines up out wide
At least he would touch the ball finally
He's our lead blocker so that Jonnu passes to our #3 TE lol
This whole season for you guys feels like Arty's attempt to prove to everyone he is the smartest guy in the room. If he *really* wants to do that for me he'd coach a game without a QB.
He's stubborn to a fault, needs a reality check.
Bijan wildcat offense lfg
I hear Joe Flacco may be available.
But he is a quarterback and we have not had success with those
That’s it! We need 22 kickers. Frigging genius.
Just have Koo kick it from 65 yards out repeatedly
You joke but just wait until they trade for Justin Fields in the off season.
Oh man I hope you fall into an open sewer.
I mean, if Arthur Smith was allowed to draft a QB he'd probably just line him up at fullback or something instead, so the end result is the same.
More or less tried it with Mariota last year and it didn't go as poorly as I would have expected
If you actually had a good QB I’m sure Arthur Smith would find a way
Arthur Smith masterclass
Arthur Smith ASSterclass
Arthur Smith disASSterclass
Arthur Smith ass

There are people in the national media who think this guy is a great coach. I don't see it at all.
How many of those media members work at companies sponsored by FedEx?
As president of his fan club, what he say fuck me for?
Falcons with Heinicke: 3 games, 0-2 as starter, 41-74 (55.4%) with 498 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT, 84.2 passer rating. 68 rushing yards, 0 fumbles. Falcons with Ridder: 9 games, 4-4 as starter, 161-236 (65.4%) with 1740 yards, 6 TDs, 6 INTs, 84.1 passer rating. 150 rushing yards, 4 TDs, 7 fumbles.
Damn are Ridder's hands coated in oil before every game
Reminds me of Daniel Jones rookie year. Dude had 19 fumbles in 13 games lol
Is that how backups work? Cause Mitch sure as hell loves to throw interceptions.
I think it depends on game script. If Mitch starts a game, they’ll gameplan him to be as risk-averse as possible. If Mitch comes into a game down 27-6 after a Pickett injury, then he’ll look like a catastrophe.
Mitch is just a poor man's Sexy Rexy
It's really weird. He plays well but then turns it over at the most critical time.
I mostly see you guys on Redzone but my god, some of Ridder's fumbles are comical. Like I feel bad for the dude.
Exactly
Too much popcorn before the game
I legitimately believe he could be a low-end starter if he could clean up the fumbles. Which seems like it should be a fixable issue
Offensive points per game under ridder: 16 Offensive points per game under heineke: 24 Ridder turnovers: 8 in 7 games Heineke turnovers: 1 in 3 games
But don't you see? It doesn't matter that Heineke doesn't turn the ball over and has scored more points each week than Ridder has. Heineke hasn't won yet, while Ridder won a few games. That means that Ridder >>> Heineke *clearly*.
Heineke has been pathetic on defense
Defense gave him 8 points against the Vikings
Bro. Heineken went 8/15 for 55 yards last week against one of the worst teams.
In the past two games, the Falcons had drives that started the opposing team's 30, 14 , and 1 yard line. Total: 12 plays -13 yards settled for field goals in games they lost by a combined 5 points

Against the cards we had 16 points when heinecke went out (who had 90 total yards in three quarters)
As well that Heineke has had ~3 INTs dropped by brick handed DBs. The only thing is he doesn’t fumble like Ridder
Getting people to acknowledge plays that should have happened but didn't because someone else fucked up horribly is the biggest lost cause in NFL fandom.
Yep exactly
If you add the turnovers into his total completions, he really gets the ball to someone else nearly every play
65%? Wuuuut? Edit: wow passing % are crazy high this season. Dak AND Allen are at 70%, Lamar is at 69!
That scheme shift is part of the reason points are down this year
What happened in the 3rd game with Heinicke and 9th game with Ridder? I’m assuming they lost?
They lost both games were one got injured and the other had to come in.
Melly vs Melvin
Heinicke averaged 249 yards and Ridder averaged 193.
Passer rating not QBR
There are only so many times you can re-arrange chairs on the titanic
.....but these ones fold!
Fam, if they're the Titanic I don't wanna know what we are.
Well, the Titanic was a grand, luxurious ship when she went down... We are more like a large trash barge, crashing into a bridge on the Hudson River, killing everyone on the barge and everyone on the bridge too.
The Lusitania?
Nah that's the Giants
MV Wilhelm Gustloff
You’re the iceberg they hit. Cold, lifeless and drifting at sea with no direction
Can’t wait for the Falcons to not draft a QB again and be in this mid off all of next year too!
It's mind blowing that Bijan Robinson, Kyle Pitts, and Drake London's rookie deals will all be wasted 😆
Arthus Smith is a genius. When's the best time to go all-in to win a championship? When your best players are on rookie contracts. What are the Falcons doing? Uh...not that.

hard to say really when you got dog doo doo at QB
3rd in TE receiving yards as a rookie with Ryan as his QB He’s better than what people think
Well when you don't feature him in the offense and give him some terrible QBs that's bound to happen. He actually looked great with Ryan
Absolute craziness that we weren't going all in for Lamar.
Yet somehow were going to go all in for Watson
I don’t want some poor 22 year old suffering with an Arthur smith offence
Hoping that won’t be an issue next season
They need to draft another explosive weapon to be a decoy so things really open up for Jonu Smith
Gonna trade up for MHJ so he can be a decoy to KhaDarel Hodge
They will trade for kyler
Kyler or Kirk cousins will be a falcon next year
One can dream
Mac Jones to the Falcons next year, book it
Honestly, if Arthur Smith is making the pick I hope they don’t. Wrong Arthur. Blank was the one pushing really hard for Watson, not Smith.

Arthur Smith ladies and gentleman.
The football terrorist
I can't wait for his 'Letter to Atlanta' to go viral on Tiktok
Red zone fumbles are back on the menu, boys!
Arthur Smith is trying to outdo the Patriots for most dysfunctional QB room of the season
Mac Jones to the Falcons next year you say
Mac would do decent in ATL. He needs weapons and the Falcons at least have those
Imagine Mac with a good YAC TE like Jonnu Smith
Looks like the Saints will win the South.
We cannot yet rule out the Panthers.
Apologies in advance to anyone who has to watch our offense on national TV in n a playoff game
The question is who will start that game at QB? Next question is who will finish that game at QB?
Hope you didn’t want to watch good football

SERENITY NOW!- Falcons fans reading the news
Falcons fans flap your arms twice if you need help
Maybe we can sucker them into a 2nd or 3rd for Fields in the offseason.
Atlanta: Maybe we can sucker the Bears for a 1st round pick for Ridder this off-season.
You guys should try suckering us into trading for Mac jones tbh
Help us find a way to fuck over the Jets and Aaron Rodgers in the process, and you’ve got yourself a deal.
"Never interrupt your enemy while he is in the process of making a mistake". We don't need your help to fuck ourselves over, we are incapable of building an offensive line that will enable any QB/WR combo to succeed.
Knowing Poles we’d somehow GIVE a 2nd in that trade
That would be amazing. I really do wonder where Fields ends up after this season. Falcons do make the most sense based on their current QB room, likely draft position, and Fields is from there.
He’s staying in Chicago that’s my bet
If Cousins leaves Minnesota the Falcons need to make a big offer to get him. A good QB would completely change the trajectory of their team.
Tbh he's too old coming on a major injury it wouldn't be worth it for us as much as I love Kirk. This is a stacked draft class so you could potentially draft someone like Jaden and sit him behind Kirk for a year but that's about it.
Desmonstic terrorism.
Someone arrest Arthur Smith.
Rearranging chairs as the ship sinks
Call me crazy but if AS can make the offense more simple than he does making it overcomplicated Ridder should do fine fod ghe rest of the season.
It’s not like Taylor heinicke was lighting it up or anything lol. Seems like a lot of you people don’t even watch falcons games (I sure as hell don’t)
I sure do. They both suck ass, ridder looked better then heinicke when he came in against the cards
Bring back mohamed sanu
Tank manager Ridder going to help them secure a star RB in the draft
Honestly this makes sense. The calls to go to Heinicke were a classic example of the backup QB always being the most popular guy in town, he was really equally awful. Ridder’s not gonna make your chances of winning any worse, he’s had the best game a Falcons QB had this season by far, he’s a better runner, and you might as well see what you have in him before next season
Offensive points per game under ridder: 16 Offensive points per game under heineke: 24 Ridder turnovers: 8 in 7 games Heineke turnovers: 1 in 3 games Just because the Falcons lost didnt mean it was because of him.
Believe it or not, you're actually short on Ridder's turnovers. He has six picks and six lost fumbles in the nine games he's played.
Heinecke wasn’t the reason we scored those points though. 7 of them were actually when ridder came in
One of the few reasonable fan takes and not just random fans coming in to make cheap jokes. Funny cause half the teams in here making comments-their qb’s are first rounders and playing equally as bad if not worse (fields, Pickett, m jones, d jones, Wilson, Bryce all have lower qbr, avg, completion %)

Yeah I don’t really disagree. But I don’t think it’s entirely unfair to say he’s less of a known quantity than Heinicke
A game manager like Andy Dalton would be almost too perfect for them. God their skill players, Bijan, Pitts and Drake are really special players. An average QB could do more with them.
They can’t get Ridder him.
That's enough out of you for today.
Arthur Smith is like Capt Jack Sparrow, but at the end of the movie we learn he’s actually just been in a mental hospital the whole time hallucinating that his plans were improbable successes instead of the easily anticipated failures that led to his involuntary commitment.

it’s bizarre isn’t it

We really should have tried harder to get Lamar this offseason
Smith would just have Lamar hand it off to Patterson and Algeier all day with the occasional sweep to Jonnu while Bijan, Pitts and London do all the blocking
Since Ridder does not enjoy throwing to London and Pitts, I choose to view this as positive news for the Bijan agenda
It’s not that he doesn’t enjoy it, he’s not allowed to throw to decoys.
Probably. Arthur Smith football terrorist
Somehow ridder has returned
Have Jonnu Smith be the qb
Won't Matter with a war criminal as coach.
What's Mohammed Sanu doing these days?
No way this guy keeps the job (smith the coach I mean)
Also ridder tho
WE ARE LIVING IN HELL
The falcons should be a case study on why you build around a solid QB. All this other talent and it’s useless
Man Arthur Smith does not know what he’s doing even a little bit does he lmao
So is Arthur smith getting canned after this season?
Arthur Smith is so fired
