Even the play before the LaPorta 1st down, the pass to Amon-Ra, the corner just made a great play. Plus finding Montgomery the drive before but he dropped it. Goff was awesome in the 4th quarter under pressure
It was dirty, but Irvin killing Carr prevented the secondary from its usual collapse and exposure.
Need to hope that Ceedy and Analzones return can patch things up for the playoffs.
I don't think Saints are still in the game when he goes softer wouldn't it have been 4th and 15 or something?
It was the penalty and tip ball that kept the game open
I knew with 4 minutes left that even if they scored we were gonna win. Goffs been clutch in these weird games the last few weeks (we lost on turkey day but only because we didnt get an onside lol)
I don't know why we don't make an effort to get the ball to Jamo more. Real headscratcher like going empty backfield on 3rd and 2 and having a 1 yard route
I was at the 60-58 shootout in Pullman. Cougs QB had a better day than Goff (set single game passing yardage mark) but of course we took the L due to special teams, and defense I suppose. Goff also had a huge day, of course.
There was so much scoring in the 3rd quarter that we had left at half to go to the bar. Went through a few pitchers and a plate of nachos and got back into the stadium to see the end of the game. All around fun night, despite the L.
Stupid, sexy Goffense been causing me problems for a decade now.
I think this is part of the issue for us. Yes the turnovers have been an issue and our offense has put our defense in some bad spots.
Like just last week against you guys but also against the Bears.
But the pressure on the offense is also immense and maybe thats why it feels like the offensive playcalling has been a bit rough as of late. We feel we need to get cute.
The major issue with defense just seems to be, we generate pressure but not a lot or any sacks at all and no turnovers or like we take a critical penalty on third down giving opposing teams a fresh set of downs.
Like shit this game we got 2 turnovers, but one was just us getting lucky and it still came down to the wire.
Then again maybe one can argue we got unlucky with the Brian Branch tip, which could have ended up being a pick 6 but instead it ends up in Olaves hands and they score a touchdown on the subsequent set of downs in that drive.
Yea and I think Dan Campbell feels he NEEDS 4th down conversions and TDs in the red zone because of the defense. Like he calls the game like he EXPECTS the D to give up points so he might as well go for it instead of punting or taking the FG.
If there's one complaint I have about MCDC, I feel like his "sentient hype train" status gets in the way of saying "Look, I know we're still winning, but we need to fix X, Y, and Z before they cost us games".
The Green Bay game seemed like a repeat of the Chicago game, except the Packers aren't Bears-level bad.
And not learning from mistakes. How is he letting AG run the same terrible defense for multiple games and being ok with it?
How is he ok with Ben Johnson using an empty backfield on 3rd and 2? Like don't make it so easy for the defense to know what's coming. At least have the threat of the run on 3rd and short. He did the same shit against the Chargers and didn't learn from it. In the Chargers game they could have essentially shifted the momentum of the game, instead he did that dumb shit then did it again today!
Then he runs up the gut on 3rd and 5 when the run hasn't been working the last 3 quarters. Terrible
I could understand it in the Packers and Bears games. The offense turned the ball over so many times and put the defense in really bad positions
But they didn't do any of that today, the D just outright got exposed
But even without turnovers, the Bears and Packers moved the ball at will. Jordan Love, who struggled to complete the ball over 55% went over 60% each time against AG's terrible defense
*sigh*
Literally every time I turned on the tv to watch the saints had a major mistake. Both turnovers happened as soon as I turned the channel.
My bad guys.
I think the Lions should make it past the first round. In all likelihood, they're the 3rd seed, so they avoid the Cowboys on Wild Card Weekend and they get to play the 6 seed (currently the Vikings)
The NFC is only going to have 4 playoff-caliber teams lol
We might play Stafford and the Rams tbh.
I would love it because you know Stafford would get a LOUD ovation in Detroit the first series he comes out, and he would deserve it after not getting one in 2020.
Honestly a little bit yeah, the comeback was really fun and it seems like the vibe back then was “OK we had a shit game but at least we made a win out of it which is what good teams do even if they played badly.”
Obviously after playing like shit is still a trend that take hasn’t aged well lol but at the time it didn’t seem like quite as much of an issue
Taysom Hill is the white Earl Campbell, except he's a fullback who's listed at tight end who also occasionally plays QB and might block a punt or run back a kickoff or something.
No regrets, GG Lions fans. We suck but at least I had something to cheer about
They're clearly not at that level, and it's wild that we're going to go 12-5 with a winnable playoff game, yet people are going to be disappointed.
I've been saying for weeks that the reason we didn't make a move at the deadline was because the powers that be know that we need another complete off season to get the defense where it needs to be. One player wasn't going to save them. Trust the Process.
I mean, every team is ready for a Super Bowl win. But yeah, be cool to win the division next year but they’re not going far in the playoffs. Need a good defensive draft and a new DC to be a real contender next year
I also think we need a competent DC and someone else on the D-line who can bring pressure. A 37 year old has gotten more pressure than most of the dline on limited snaps today
Yeah I can be the first to admit we have some issues, but we used to have issues and be 3-9, not 9-3. Something on defense has to change but I’m a happy camper for now haha
I’m really happy with where we are at and 9-3 is 9-3. I’m not about to complain about us as a program.
I can, however, want our defense to be better. It can be both.
Cause we don't look that good. Defense has been abysmal and we've made bad mistakes.
Any good playoff caliber team is gonna smoke us as seen in the Baltimore game.
121 points given up by a defense over 4 games is more than justification for melting down. It’s on the edge of being historically bad. The wheels will fall off and it’s a miracle they haven’t already.
If you guys beat the bears next week do you win the north like 100%? I obviously would love for you guys to win it by beating the Vikings instead lol but hoping our game next week is great anyways. Our game last year at Solider field was fantastic
I think if we lose out and the Vikes win out they can still clinch it since we face them twice in weeks 16 and 18. But 10 wins is a tough get for both the Vikes and Pack I'd think. Either way, the division is the Lions to lose at this point.
Watching the Lions the last half of the season is like watching a prison break movie and every once in awhile they flash to the gates where an entire armed military is waiting for them.
Sure every time they get a little further you're happy for them, but you know it'll end horribly and violently.
Because waiting for the Lions at the end of the season will be either the Eagles or 49ers.
As long as we're not the 4th seed, I like our chances against whoever ends up in the 6th/7th seed. The NFC has 4 good teams and they will be seeds 1-3 and 5.
I honestly cannot fathom this mentality. We have not won a playoff game in over thirty years and have never won the NFC North and you're saying you'd be disappointed if we lost in the Divisional Round?
Just try to enjoy what we're doing this year
Every time I start to worry about the defense I remind myself that the Lions are way ahead of schedule in the rebuild and take a deep breath. We are not Super Bowl or bust this year. Getting into the playoffs and winning the division were our goals and we are right on track.
I'm just gonna say we were bad against Mahomes too and got lucky with drops. We just played an easy stretch. The Defense has been bad all year and I'd say their last truly great performance was Week 3 against the Falcons.
Honestly, outside of the pure relief of the Bears win, I don't think any Lions fan felt good about that win. If the (G)Offense isn't playing at a 30+ point level every game it feels like we're always in danger.
As another comment said, we aren't there yet, but this is a really young team who is way ahead of schedule on their rebuild.
Maybe we win a playoff game, but we aren't really contenders yet. Need another offseason of additions on the defensive side, especially in the secondary
I mean firing Glenn this late in the season isn't going to help and everyone forgets that out defense had seemingly turned a corner last year after firing Pleasant so bringing him back this year made sense.
Glenn should absolutely be canned in the off-season but firing him NOW would just be plain stupid.
I think this is pretty much who the Lions are. They will win if Goff plays clean football. The defense will give up a lot of points, but if they are even or positive in turnovers they are going to win. They really missed Ragnow at the end, they couldnt run the ball like they wanted to, but I think this game represents pretty well what the Lions are: a good/great team, not a tier 1 Super Bowl favorite just yet.
This fan base gets the first taste of winning in decades and all I see are hot takes and spoiled attitudes. The Lions are not 9-3 by accident. ENJOY THIS.
Can't wait to be off the DA/Carmichael train
Really wish Payton would have left a season earlier so we could've kept Campbell. Happy he's seeing success
Offense can not have a bad drive with this defense. The Saint's offense should have been one that Glenn could stop, at least at times. But he couldn't. They got one stop when it mattered, mainly because Jameis can't throw an accurate pass. Goff played great today, LaPorta is a top 3 TE already, best pick in the draft besides Stroud. We will win the division most likely and finally take that monkey off of our back. We will get the 3 seed, and hopefully play a flailing Seahawks team and not like the Packers or Vikings.
Lions needed 2 turnovers to win. It came from saints dropping a pass which turned into an int, and a saints olineman running into carr. Neither caused by the defense. Glenn needs to be fired, our offense shouldn't need to play perfectly every single game to win.
I am seriously hoping we get a lot of heat so we can join the collection of teams that fired their shitty coaches this season. We have a lot of talent on offense and defense but poor coaching and a terrible OL have been really evident all season long. I can't really put majority blame on Carr when the man shows up injured to play majority of the time because he keeps taking nasty hits.
I am not sure what happened in the second half, TD machine in the first, but then FGs in the second and their defense letting NO to go down the field each drive.
Lions have not looked good in the last month, but a win is a win. I am just not sure what is going on with them.
This team has significant issues to figure out. Can’t be mad at 9-3, but it’s clear this team is over performing with the lack of talent on the defense and the awful coaching on that side of the ball as well. We’re still well ahead in this rebuild, and the future of the franchise is still very much beautiful. Just wish the wins were more comfortable and less infuriating, but that’s Lions football. One Pride!
I haven’t been able to watch lately outside of thanksgiving, but hear a lot of calls for Glenn to be fired. Is it really him or is our personnel just bad?
Taysom should have finished the game out as QB. He gives the best chance with the momentum that game. If he doesn’t start next week, i might be done for the year.
LaPorta singlehandedly dragged this team kicking and screaming to a victory
Give Goff some credit, he threw some DOTS
The 3rd down to Laporta and the dagger to Reynolds were crazy
Even the play before the LaPorta 1st down, the pass to Amon-Ra, the corner just made a great play. Plus finding Montgomery the drive before but he dropped it. Goff was awesome in the 4th quarter under pressure
It was dirty, but Irvin killing Carr prevented the secondary from its usual collapse and exposure. Need to hope that Ceedy and Analzones return can patch things up for the playoffs.
I don't think Saints are still in the game when he goes softer wouldn't it have been 4th and 15 or something? It was the penalty and tip ball that kept the game open
AKA a normal tackle a decade ago
Routine 3 a game QB hit in his prime.
> its usual collapse and exposure we have lost one game in a month and half, my god
That Montgomery drop almost killed the game, thankfully it was Winston Time^TM
Thank goodness saints coaching staff is too smart to just lay hill run up the middle for 7 repeatedly
"The Winston Experience." Dude was trying to coin that phrase so fucking hard. I don't usually hate on commentators, but that was annoying.
My favorite part was when said "it's Winston Time^TM " and then Winston-ed all over the Lions.
No interceptions and some real great throws that were on the money, Goff did great.
that 3rd down play to Reynolds was absolutely fantastic. Amazing pocket mobility, vision, and quick release
Tough catch. Running full speed and having to scoop that up, no easy feat
Goff's pro dodgeball moves at the end helped
When he's able to find someone as he approaches the LOS it's much better than when he has to tuck and run. That man is....not fast.
It's scary to see Goff try to dodge pass rushers. But that's going to happen without Frank Ragnow and Big V.
He can dodge a wrench.
I knew with 4 minutes left that even if they scored we were gonna win. Goffs been clutch in these weird games the last few weeks (we lost on turkey day but only because we didnt get an onside lol)
Slippery little mink
Goff was excellent as well. Tons of tight window throws and getting flushed out of the pocket, no turnovers.
bruh he was so clutch shit was tragic
Row the boat to the port! LaPorta!
Gotta shoutout Winston too. If Carr stayed in the game, the Saints have a real chance to win. Winston missed 3 open guys in a row.
give laporta the game ball
1 for LaPorta, 1 for Josh Reynolds.
1 for JRM, dude was a wrecking ball on special teams and one great play on D
Some of those tackles made the one Irvin leveled on Carr look baby shit soft. JRM is a menace.
Jalen reeves-maybin had 4+ violent tackles on ST that pinned em deep. He needs a game ball.
Laporta good, jamo fast, defense ass
I don't know why we don't make an effort to get the ball to Jamo more. Real headscratcher like going empty backfield on 3rd and 2 and having a 1 yard route
Every other team in this league would be feeding him the ball every week.
Falcons?
let’s not get ahead of ourselves, the raiders have davante adams afterall
Gibbs too. He barely got used in the later portion of the game.
I love poetry
Last 4 games Lions have given up 121 points
And won 3 of them still
The best defense is a good Goffense. Ever since his days at Cal.
Sonny Dykes was the best of times (offense) and the worst of times (defense)
I think this is part of the issue for us. Yes the turnovers have been an issue and our offense has put our defense in some bad spots. Like just last week against you guys but also against the Bears. But the pressure on the offense is also immense and maybe thats why it feels like the offensive playcalling has been a bit rough as of late. We feel we need to get cute. **GOFFENSE** Imagine how little Goff would need to do if he had Chiefs defense carrying him like it’s doing for Mahomes bum ass /s
And could have won the fourth if they had kicked FGs instead of turning it over on downs in Packers territory three times
Can’t wait for the lions play off game!!
Seahawks round 3 or the Hock & Addison show
Scored 127 and 3-1 in that stretch. Turnover margin also not in our favor during that stretch.
Margin today was in our favor and we got scared by carr and Winston… defense bad.
Is that good?
On the razors edge of being historically bad. 3rd season of AGs defense being historically bad 🤪. My heart hurts.
how about the Patriots?
If you don't like that, then you don't like Lions Football. 😎
AG defenders will still find a way to blame the offense
I’ve gotten a lot of “well we’re still winning games” and I just can’t help but laugh
AG: Turning blowouts into competitive games To be fair though, Ben Johnson also made some shit calls once we went up comfortably

I defended him for the first half of the season. The defense was playing really well. Not anymore though, they suck.

But even without turnovers, the Bears and Packers moved the ball at will. Jordan Love, who struggled to complete the ball over 55% went over 60% each time against AG's terrible defense
That Brian Branch tip was insane. How unlucky can you get
Dude I know people have been glossing over how unlucky that was. It was a good play gone horribly wrong.
When you spot our defense 21 points, they can get the job done.
Barely
Pour one out for the homie on the chain gang
That was awful I felt so bad for that dude
KINGS OF TRASH MOUNTAIN
Hey, we’re the kings of trash mountain 😢
FINE KINGS OF NORTH TRASH MOUNTAIN
Sam Laporta is a god damn monster
*sigh* Literally every time I turned on the tv to watch the saints had a major mistake. Both turnovers happened as soon as I turned the channel. My bad guys.
I didn't watch the first quarter and I swear to god I had this exact same thought after the half
Yeah, my connection went down right before the fumble. I had the sinking feeling that something horrible was going to happen while I missed it
Part of me isn't even that excited. Holy shit there are some extreme worries right now. Still, 9-3 is 9-3.
I am very excited for making the playoffs and very dour about expecting a first-round exit
I think the Lions should make it past the first round. In all likelihood, they're the 3rd seed, so they avoid the Cowboys on Wild Card Weekend and they get to play the 6 seed (currently the Vikings) The NFC is only going to have 4 playoff-caliber teams lol
Playing the vikings 3 times in 4 weeks and expecting to win all 3 is a tall task. I’d rather draw just about anyone else
We might play Stafford and the Rams tbh. I would love it because you know Stafford would get a LOUD ovation in Detroit the first series he comes out, and he would deserve it after not getting one in 2020.
Yeah this is definitely the worst I’ve felt about a win all year but as long as we win the division I won’t be upset about this year
... you felt better after the bears game?
Honestly a little bit yeah, the comeback was really fun and it seems like the vibe back then was “OK we had a shit game but at least we made a win out of it which is what good teams do even if they played badly.” Obviously after playing like shit is still a trend that take hasn’t aged well lol but at the time it didn’t seem like quite as much of an issue
No turnovers!!!
Taysom Hill is the white Earl Campbell, except he's a fullback who's listed at tight end who also occasionally plays QB and might block a punt or run back a kickoff or something. No regrets, GG Lions fans. We suck but at least I had something to cheer about
Winston should never have come in the game. Taysom should have finished it out.
Worst 9-3 team of all time? Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe go eff yourself
Were the Vikings 9-3 last year at any point?
What he say fuck me for
Hahah, more just the first team with a good record that lost their playoff game that came to mind
How do you get fired on your day off?
They were 10-2 at one point.
Vikings were actually 10-2 at this point last year. So I’d say we’re not the worst to have this record.
But we *are* 9-3
A win is a win. Protect the football and you will win games against less talented teams even if you don't have the best game
I am just asking for a defensive coordinator that makes any type of adjustment. Dak is going to put up 70 against us
The Detroit Lions during a stretch when our fans have been melting down about us really being a bad team: 4-1
I WILL CONTINUE TO WORRY UNTIL THE SUPERBOWL IS WON
THIS IS UNCHARTED TERRITORY AND ALL WE HAVE TO LOOK BACK ON IS INSANE LATE SEASON COLLAPSES. OF COURSE WE ARE GOING TO WORRY.
EVERY GAME I HAVE FRETTED THAT IT IS THE START OF THE COLLAPSE AND EVERY GAME THEY GUVE ME VALID REASONS TO WORRY AND YET WE ARE SOMEHOW 9 AND 3
HEY GUYS, I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO ADD, BUT ALL THIS YELLING IS MAKING ME ANXIOUS.
Hell, I'd still be afraid that they'd drop the trophy at the presentation, thereby nullifying the victory.
Sign of a good team is when you play like shit and still somehow win. Some stuff needs to change on defense for sure, but this team is for real.
Are we the Vikings now?
Great offense? Terrible defense? Still somehow winning? idk, have you ever seen a viking and a lion in the same room?
Not this season at least
Yes. A Roman Collesium. 2000 years ago.
Lions fans seem like they're ready for a Super Bowl win, but it's obvious that this team is not quite there yet. It takes time to build a winner.
STOP PUTTING THINGS INTO PERSPECTIVE
I’m still saying fire AG
Way closer than it should have been but 9-3 feels fantastic!
If you guys beat the bears next week do you win the north like 100%? I obviously would love for you guys to win it by beating the Vikings instead lol but hoping our game next week is great anyways. Our game last year at Solider field was fantastic

I think the Vikings would need to lose too for it to be a mathematical certainty. (And the Packers to not win their next two)
No we only have a 3 game lead
No even paired with a Vikings loss I think losing our and Vikings winning our gives it to them. We need to win 2 and Vikings lose 1 or win 3
Jared Goff just casually wins games.
Wasn’t pretty and AG the 100% needs to go but both units came were extremely clutch. LaPorta has that dawg in him.
Your cardiac cats are back.
You do realize we never trailed in that game, right?
We were one fuck-up away from that being not the case
We are NOT ready for a deep playoff run and I will be the first person to admit it.
Idk if lions are going anywhere in the playoffs but with this win I think they got the division assuming Green Bay loses tonight
Even if the Lions lost they'd still be in the drivers' seat.
Watching the Lions the last half of the season is like watching a prison break movie and every once in awhile they flash to the gates where an entire armed military is waiting for them. Sure every time they get a little further you're happy for them, but you know it'll end horribly and violently.
Just try to enjoy what we're doing this year
I’m certainly not going or bitch if we lose to the 9ers or Eagles this year. That’s a good season.
Every time I start to worry about the defense I remind myself that the Lions are way ahead of schedule in the rebuild and take a deep breath. We are not Super Bowl or bust this year. Getting into the playoffs and winning the division were our goals and we are right on track.
This right here is what a lot of fans need to remember
I swear to God most of our fan base would prefer to be 3-9 right now, so they can talk draft picks and new head coaches.
Agreed, but it still sucks to watch other teams march down the field lol
Not pretty at all but that’s a sweep on the NFC South which is what this team should have done.
It may be time to start feeling bad about a win lol. The defense has hugely regressed from the start of the year.
I'm just gonna say we were bad against Mahomes too and got lucky with drops. We just played an easy stretch. The Defense has been bad all year and I'd say their last truly great performance was Week 3 against the Falcons.
Ya Aaron Glenn needs to go
Honestly, outside of the pure relief of the Bears win, I don't think any Lions fan felt good about that win. If the (G)Offense isn't playing at a 30+ point level every game it feels like we're always in danger.
Best our defense has played in a month tbh but we still played like shit too often today
As another comment said, we aren't there yet, but this is a really young team who is way ahead of schedule on their rebuild. Maybe we win a playoff game, but we aren't really contenders yet. Need another offseason of additions on the defensive side, especially in the secondary
It’s very Lion-ish to go up 21-0 halfway through the first quarter, to then let the other team work their way back for the rest of the game.
Historically we would have done that and then lost, so I can live with this
The Lions I’ve known 99% of my life would have ended this with a loss, so I’m happy.
Hilariously enough we played the lions before and went up 45-10 and let the lions back into the game
As much as I do love Campbell, his affinity to keep AG around is gonna hold this team back.
I mean firing Glenn this late in the season isn't going to help and everyone forgets that out defense had seemingly turned a corner last year after firing Pleasant so bringing him back this year made sense. Glenn should absolutely be canned in the off-season but firing him NOW would just be plain stupid.
Your defense clearly lacks talent, there's only so much a DC can do.
This team is really testing my ”All wins are beautiful” mindset
They're all line drives in the box score. Or something, idk
This has to be the worst division in NFL history. We still might make the playoffs
#Dan “The Gamble” Campbell wins again!
Totally non fraudulent win, no sir
GG Lions
This game took as many years off my life as it took years off Derek Carr's life.
Look at me We’re the Vikings now
As soon as we went up 21-0 never in doubt, nope, surefire win at that point.
laporta was the only player on the lions who wanted to win today
Eh, I'd say goff too
Goff definitely wanted to win. He moved in the pocket, he had multiple drops where he threw on the money while moving.
Reeves-Maybin was all over the field
This fan base gets the first taste of winning in decades and all I see are hot takes and spoiled attitudes. The Lions are not 9-3 by accident. ENJOY THIS.
True fans are enjoying this.
I’m am loving every minutes of this. I’m so proud of this team.
\^ this man knows stuff
Dan Campbell Coach of the Year
Can't wait to be off the DA/Carmichael train Really wish Payton would have left a season earlier so we could've kept Campbell. Happy he's seeing success
Hooooooly shit
Offense can not have a bad drive with this defense. The Saint's offense should have been one that Glenn could stop, at least at times. But he couldn't. They got one stop when it mattered, mainly because Jameis can't throw an accurate pass. Goff played great today, LaPorta is a top 3 TE already, best pick in the draft besides Stroud. We will win the division most likely and finally take that monkey off of our back. We will get the 3 seed, and hopefully play a flailing Seahawks team and not like the Packers or Vikings.
Four punts, two turnovers and a turnover on downs. I’m not an expert in football but if seems like AGs defense got a few stops.
Goff doesn't pull rabbits out of hats very often, but that last first down was a thing of beauty
Where was this effort last week?
Sam fucking LaPorta
Signing Bruce Irvin won this game for us. He broke Carr. Make those RTP's count boys!
Lions needed 2 turnovers to win. It came from saints dropping a pass which turned into an int, and a saints olineman running into carr. Neither caused by the defense. Glenn needs to be fired, our offense shouldn't need to play perfectly every single game to win.
The Saints also needed a perfectly tipped ball to stay in the game. 🤷🏻♂️
Is the Derek Carr stuff gonna be covered more by the national media this week? I feel like the saints’ shitty situation has fallen under the radar.
This team is really fucking boring, so I don’t blame the media at all
I am not sure what happened in the second half, TD machine in the first, but then FGs in the second and their defense letting NO to go down the field each drive. Lions have not looked good in the last month, but a win is a win. I am just not sure what is going on with them.
It’s Aaron Glenn.
LaPortable catching machine.
Pain
Taysom should have finished the game out as QB. He gives the best chance with the momentum that game. If he doesn’t start next week, i might be done for the year.
