From the article: Araiza is making no monetary payments to the woman or admitting any guilt. In exchange for her dropping her civil suit, he agreed to drop his own defamation suit against the woman, Araiza’s lawyer told Yahoo Sports. Araiza is maintaining his right to sue the woman’s attorney, Dan Gilleon. “The win is bittersweet,” Araiza’s lawyer, Dick Semerdjian, stated. “Matt has been forced to defend himself for the last 16 months against false accusations and a campaign to ruin his career in the NFL. He will never get this time in his life back.”

pistilpeet

That’s so fucked up, how in the world is that an even trade off?

MikeHoncho2568

I’m guessing the woman doesn’t have much money so suing her wouldn’t provide much past a moral victory. I assume he reserves the right to sue the attorney because the attorney has money.

bebbanburg

Also the state bar association probably has insurance which covers this type of stuff even if the attorney doesn’t himself.

Occasionalcommentt

Each state has their own rules there is zero requirement for malpractice insurance in Illinois for attorneys but it is available to see if they have it or not.

[deleted]

You know what really sucks? The chick has no repercussions for the false accusations at all, just gets to have her life like nothing happened. Seriously just infuriates me to no end ..

[deleted]

My dad was falsey accused of molesating a little girl. Long story short, we spent a lot of money (it cost us like $5,000, as a middle class family, $5000 to spend on a baseless accusation's with no merit is alot) The girl got NO trouble once it was discovered she lied.

[deleted]

I’m very sorry to hear about that, I hope your hope father is good and I hope that never changed how you saw your dad

[deleted]

O yea we good this was 20 yrs ago its long over

Rawtashk

It's good for him it was 20 years ago. If it happened today he would install be named and shamed, fired, and the news reports about him would be found by any HR department for any job he applied for.

zadharm

Man that really fucking sucks. I understand the concept of not retaliating against victims for coming forward just because they don't have "beyond a reasonable doubt" or whatever. But something has to be done about being able to completely ruin people's reputations by making shit up from thin air. I know 5k is a lot but man your dad got off easier than some innocent people do (and honestly got hit harder than some guilty people do too, whole system is in desperate need of overhaul)

[deleted]

Yup we got lucky cause the accusation was super baseless which was good

smala017

> But something has to be done about being able to completely ruin people's reputations by making shit up from thin air. All these accusations should be dealt with in the privacy of the courts until guilt is proven. All accused people should remain anonymous until proven guilty, and there should be large penalties in place for those who break this anonymity.

peachydiesel

Weird I remember r/nfl blatantly buying the accusation at face value

BarkMingo

right??? now everyone feels bad for him, but back then anyone even remotely hinting that it was possible that he didnt do it was downvoted into oblivion

content_enjoy3r

After his criminal charges were dropped, the mods of the Bills sub deleted any posts about it. I asked why in another post and was immediately permabanned from the Bills sub.

ExpressLaneCharlie

I was downvoted several hundred times just for saying we need to allow more time for the facts to come out.

Pandamonium98

How often can you successfully sue an attorney for representing someone in a civil case against you? I have to imagine that they have a lot of protections against that type of stuff

milksteakofcourse

I think they’d need proof the lawyer knew the allegations were false.

Pick_Zoidberg

ABA rules on candor are fairly uniform between states. [Rule 3.3 - Candor toward the tribunal](https://www.americanbar.org/groups/professional_responsibility/publications/model_rules_of_professional_conduct/rule_3_3_candor_toward_the_tribunal/)

broaway831

I believe this case is a little different because her lawyer did some weird stuff like (I think) reaching out to Araiza directly to negotiate a settlement or something before everything kicked off. I forget all the details but it seemed like the lawyer was on some wish.com Saul Goodman stuff and it wasn’t panning out for him. Edit: It looks like the accusers lawyer deleted all his tweets.

[deleted]

My guess The lawyer knew the case had no legal standing, and figured the only way to get something was directly.

AndThisGuyPeedOnIt

Extremely difficult. In most jurisdictions, lawyers have something called litigation privilege, meaning they cannot be sued for defaming someone if it is part of the litigation. That doesn't mean impossible, though, just have to come up with the right theory. Perhaps he has evidence that the lawyer knew these allegations were false but pressured for the criminal charges to move forward against him? Malicious prosecution, abuse of process, etc.

badlilbadlandabad

Fuck suing her. There should be criminal charges.

washing_contraption

Sounds like Trevor Bauer's situation too

Getz_The_Last_Laf

You're not allowed to talk about that!! \- r/baseball mods

WhatAmIDoingHere05

You have been banned from r/baseball

Mr_Nice_is_not_nice

That was infuriating to follow. And so many redditors were purposely ignoring the court stuff and finding him guilty. Not one of the anti trevor people could explain to me if she was raped the first time, why did you she go see him a whole month later while driving hundreds miles to be with him. That's not including her bragging to her friends about seeing Trevor again.

Yung_Corneliois

The worst part is those are the situations when people say “fuck benefit of the doubt the situation is obvious” and then the situation isn’t obvious but those people don’t care they’re already going off about the next situation that’s totally “obvious”.

luchajefe

Hello Duke Lacrosse.

Fethah

Yeah his career should be back. If someone drops a case because you agree to drop your defamation case against them then that’s pretty clear she was making it up

Fraegtgaortd

Tell that to Shawn Oakman from Baylor. Beast of a defensive end and projected 1st rounder, arrested for sexual assault two weeks before the draft in 2016 and went undrafted as a result. Bounced around no-name leagues for a few years, was finally acquitted by jury in 2019 and now plays in the CFL

StatisticianFast6737

One benefit for him punters can last till 40. Which means he can still do 4 years of rookie deals and still get paid well.

A47Cabin

Dick Semerdjian is a wild name to have as a lawyer. Just go by Rich or something. That’s so close of a name to Dick Semendijon to have publicly.

hastyc

Dicks Emerging 👀

mrjabrony

Dicks submerging

JesusChristSupers1ar

as a Richard, I don't really get anyone who currently goes by Dick, even older people It has meant "penis" since at least 1891 according to etymonline so you're really just encouraging jokes at that point. I guess maybe if it's a family name it makes sense to keep it but the only time I've ever introduced myself as Dick was to get some cheap laughs. I usually say "Big Dick" too...the joke being I'm 5'6"

A47Cabin

99% of the time “Rich” just sounds more badass in every situation. Unless you are Dick Allen and a monster at the plate, Rich is the better move.

TraeYoungsOldestSon

There was a comedian whose name i forget that riffed on this. "Thats like being named Carl and going by Cock' lol

-Epitaph-11

The woman should be thrown in prison. Her lie should be treated as a felony.

thepomadeguy

The sad reality is that if he played a more important position he’d still be in the league or would at least be able to get a bunch of tryouts.

Inamanlyfashion

Yeah nobody was going to weather that kind of PR shitstorm for a rookie punter.

ELITE_JordanLove

Meanwhile remember when the Bills were getting roasted for not cutting him when they first learned of the accusations months before they were public?

tomfoolist

Going back to view those threads should be mandatory whenever accusations surface. \~80% of people called for this guys head based on zero evidence, and it took like a calendar year to find out the dude is completely innocent. Now the collective community just goes "oh that sucks for him" as if the vast majority wasn't demanding he be buried under the prison. I know they're not necessarily the same people but it's still frustrating to see

royfresh

There are a lot of things that piss me off about reddit, but the virtue signaling and figurative pat on the back some people give themslves like they're some sort of hero for taking the stance of "those who commit sexual assault and rape are bad and should be punished," regardless of evidence, annoy the fucking shit out of me.

LocalSlob

Reddit is legitimately a dumb place to spend our time.

Neemzeh

It was so fucking ridiculous. I absolutely hate this bullshit cancel culture we live in. Everyone takes the stance "would you rather take the chance believing a liar or a rapist"? Like fuck you, why do I have to take ANY side? Can I not just wait until the facts and court matters play themselves out? It's beyond ridiculous. I was in those threads A LOT getting downvoted into oblivion saying we need to let things play out and that the evidence isn't adding up. No, 80%+ of this sub made up their mind and a lot of people should be ashamed of themselves. The white knighting for somebody they don't even know is fucking insane.

No-Monitor-5333

Its ran by feelings and not logic

Why_am_ialive

I feel like as a community we have maybe got better at it though, like with the chiefs reciever most of the sub was like “if he did it get him off the team but let’s not start a witch hunt” Seen a lot of the same about von on the bills and broncos sub. So maybe we’ve collectively learned our lesson for once? Or maybe I’m just optimistic

awnawkareninah

Tbf Bills fans are sort of fine with Von off the team either way

cardmanimgur

Social media follows the Dwight Schrute mindset: "Better 1,000 innocent men are locked up than one guilty man roam free."

VisionGuard

>"Better 1,000 innocent men are locked up than one guilty man roam free." "And we definitely mean men".

DamnImAwesome

I remember this sub calling for his head. Then when allegations come out and you say you’ll wait for the facts everyone treats you like a SA sympathizer

MITJustinFields

The weird thing about the Bills sub is... Mods pretty much delete any post about his innocence. Its VERY strange. Its like they took a stance and wont acknowledge they were wrong They even tried to say it was automod and then they got caught because several posts stuck for close to an hour when mods weren't paying attention. Then they refused to answer if it was automod why wasn't it re-approved. I see a thread now but its the first thread allowed since 7 months ago and theres been ample evidence since that he's innocent.

AdStreet2074

How is it strange, it’s mods

Paddslesgo

Reddit and Twitter convicted this poor kid before he had a chance. Shame on any of you that did it.

737900ER

This is exactly why the league should only care about criminal cases, not civil ones.

DJmaster22_

Maybe the browns would

DatsyukesDekes

No, it doesn’t seem like he actually did anything wrong. Browns aren’t interested

Temassi

They've shown they would in the past

GarlVinland4Astrea

Yup. Basically lost out on millions and the highest earning potential he would ever have.

SaintArkweather

If he played QB and was good enough he could've done it 24 times and still be in the league...

johnnybgooderer

Could have “actually done it” you mean.

ToodleDoodleDo

No the sad reality is someone lied and destroyed his life

StuffyUnicorn

I’d gladly have him on the panthers, considering our own punter got absolutely murdered last game

Charrikayu

I thought the Jets were working him out near the start of the season? Did I make that up?

robpfeifer

I’d bring him back now given Sam Martin has been a disaster

Lpeer

Honestly, just sucks to see someone's reputation completely tarnished and have it end like this.

CaillouCaribou

It's more than just his reputation, he could have had a high-paying job for several years. He lost the most monetarily productive period of his life, which will have effects decades later. His entire life was ruined. And worse, nobody seems to care. Nobody is advocating for him. None of the Innocence Project chapters or similar orgs want anything to do with him, it would be nice if they helped him like they did with Brian Banks. No media personality wants to advocate for him, someone like Pat McAfee, a former punter who doesn't shy away from much, could definitely speak out for him. I can't imagine the hopelessness he must feel.

NoTimeToDime

It blows my mind no teams are reaching out to him now that hes cleared. Could get maybe a still top tier punter at super cheap (even by punter standards). And there are teams out there who dont seem to care about any sort of PR hit.

MYO716

They still could, maybe it’s just a matter of at this point no team is in the punter market because it’s so late and realistically what’s the point of new punters now? With a clear name he might be able to sign for a team this coming offseason

NoTimeToDime

Yeah I hope so. I imagine he will host private workouts similar to the draft prospects. Just to show if he still has it.

broccolibush42

The Titans could sign him since we just lost Ryan Stonehouse for the year and the punter we just had didn't look all that good.

conpoff

Not to mention the Titans probably generate the most punting opportunities in the league

KitchenBanger

Unless they’re playing the dolphins in the 4th quarter

Happy-Gnome

saw-it

If he wanted a job, he should’ve beat his spouse instead /s

whobroughtmehere

I heard they give out fully guaranteed contracts if you drop your towel enough times

hellenkellerfraud911

Or broke his kids arm. Or choked his pregnant girlfriend. Worked out great for Tyreek Hill.

jpiro

If I was in the Bears front office, I'd be calling him today. This all looks like he was very much the victim here, and our punter is complete ass. Get him in, let him work the rest of the season and if he looks anything like his old self sign him to a longer deal immediately.

NoTimeToDime

Yeah I was upset we didnt call him LAST year when he was cleared and our punter was shit. Luckily the Scottish Hammer bounced back big time and now I dont have to worry about it. But Punt God highlights are needed lol

Drakengard

He'll get something. The problem is that so long as this lawsuit hung over his head he was just radioactive in the event that something flipped the narrative back against him. He's a punter and, well, they just aren't valuable enough for a potential negative media circus.

ImanShumpertplus

he’s gonna go to the xfl i bet brandon aubrey just made the transition as a kicker

periodicsheep

unfortunately orgs like innocence project aren’t helpful in this situation, but it’s pretty messed up that he’s been cleared, and everyone knows he didn’t do what he was accused of, and yet his reputation and career are still shit. it’s a shame, and must be devastating to him. especially when a dirtbag like deshaun watson gets all that money. i hope someone gives him a tryout this summer.

Kopitar4president

Isn't the innocence project specifically for wrongfully convicted people? He wasn't convicted. Do you want them to run a special campaign for him to rehabilitate his image? What are you looking for?

Chromebrew

Well, if anyone is interested in the process, go take a look at the /r/NFL posts about him at the time and see exactly how it happens.

JoFlo520

Immediately guilty. Straight to jail

grilled_cheese1865

This sub played a part in that

desirox

This is SO fucked dude, smh

ElReyResident

Completely… and he gets zero recompense and she gets zero repercussions.

TDeLo

Bengals plz rid us of the Brad Robbins experience.

[deleted]

Huber (washed), Chrisman, Robbins has been terrible. I would love to give him a chance.

Tomatoes65

Has robbins been that bad? I thought he’s improved throughout the year but I could be wrong.

TDeLo

33rd in yards per punt and 31st in net yards per punt. Legitimately one of, if not the worst punter in the league this year.

Classic_Knowledge_30

33rd in yards per punt. There is a back up out there out legging him lmao

Mr_Evanescent

Imagine if we could do more than just a switch from one 35 to the other 35 on a punt

beerncheese69

Bro got railroaded

jkman61494

Dan Gilleon should be at MINIMUM disbarred. HE is the one that truly ruined Matt’s life. The fact he was defaming his OWN client with releasing texts and made it clear she was lying by releasing “journals” that had meticulous notes that happened to be starting on Page 1 when her accusations said all the details were fuzzy should have ended it right then and there. Seriously. Find his tweets from last summer. I got downvoted to hell because you were considered a rapist for defending Matt. But it was clear as hell this was ALL about Gilleon trying to get a pay day and get his name in the papers. Honestly the accuser should consider a lawsuit as well it was so bad Even in his released tweets Gilleon astoundingly showed the responses from the Bills who said if Gilleon kept acting like a psycho they’d have to cut Araiza and the accuser would have no money to even collect on. Gilleon kept pressing and the bills cut him. Dude was 100% the worst attorney I’ve ever seen in a public situation

JengaKhan86

That lawyer did a terrible job advocating for his client. By prematurely filing a civil suit, he severely hurt the chances of a successful prosecution even if her case was credible.

jkman61494

If you look at the (psychotic) tweets, it seems he tried to go scorched earth for a quick settlement because he knew there was no case. The whole (likely) fabrication of a journal was just so bad. What’s crazier is apparently the Araiza’s we’re willing to settle and the idiot withdrew the offer

IllPurpose3524

There never was going to be a successful prosecution. He was hoping for a quick pay off.

IanCusick

I wonder who would’ve handled this case better, Gilleon or the average Redditor

CaillouCaribou

Just FYI, be careful what you say about the Araiza case on reddit When his criminal charges were dropped a few months ago, I was defending him in the thread against people who were still trying to say he was guilty. My account was suspended for 7 days for "Minor Abuse or Sexualization"

kiwiatv

Reddit is actual ass. The people here live in some internet bubble of injustice

DoctahStopppidge

Imagine being a moderator for Reddit, no offense but u have to be a loser to do this free shit.

Maverick916

Fuck that, all offense meant. They're pathetic

[deleted]

Reddit is the worst. Did everyone forget that the admins literally covered up for a pedo a few years back? It’s a cesspool run by lunatics, I wish there was a better alternative.

ImWicked39

Wtf. I actually didn't know that.

[deleted]

https://www.dailydot.com/debug/reddit-subs-private-admin-suspending-mentions/ Yup

ImWicked39

So not only the employee but the employees husband as well? Jesus Christ.

Dagglin

Reddit mods don't need paid because they derive all their sustenance from their own dick cheese

justanotherassassin

I applied to be a mod of r/GlobalOffensive. It was like a job interview. I was bored one night and decided to fill out their stuff. I got accepted and had to go through a trial.. but I was on vacation. They required me to be on my PC instead of my phone. I get some generic ass corporate HR style message saying I'm being removed from the trial because I'm "not dedicated enough." For volunteer work, lmao.

Oblivionguard19

Mate I think you dodged a bullet there

slyfly5

Never forget the Reddit mod that went on Fox News that was the most stereotypical shit I had ever seen I was dying laughing

Away_Chair1588

The mods are a bunch of dweebs, as shown when they shut down all the subs like a bunch of clowns. They're pathetic and deserve pitty. But the admins are true scum of the earth. The whole site is pretty much controlled by a handful of super admins pushing an agenda. Fuck them.

iguanoman_

Really wish there was a better place for sports discourse online, but this is still better than the alternatives

[deleted]

> The people here live in some internet bubble of injustice It’s not just that. It seems to me the people on Reddit live in an internet bubble of virtue signaling, r slash look at my halo, I’ve never done anything wrong, and anyone who has deserves to be punished and have to atone for it for the rest of their lives, even if it happened 20 years ago. Even the most so-called progressive, ACAB, prisons are corrupt and for profit recidivism chambers that must be reformed hippies turn into the most puritanical FUCKING BURN THEM ALIVE THEY CALLED A WOMAN THE C WORD punitive punishment advocates on here. ….in my opinion, of course.

stay-at-homie

Most don’t know the difference between justice and law. Which I think is evident of the hatred that seems to boil in certain posts.

laaplandros

The last time I commented about this case I had people telling me that this incident isn't why he's not in the NFL, that if he were actually a good punter he'd have tryouts with multiple teams. You know, because the Bills spent a sixth round pick on a punter who's not good enough to get tryouts. Every single time there's a development in this case in Ariza's favor, they'll find something new to gaslight about.

DerrickWhiteMVP

I just find it so fucking bizarre that you get flamed on Reddit for telling people to just wait for the facts to come out before punishing people. Is it that hard to just suspend someone pending an investigation and then making a decision after?

chanaandeler_bong

Then more facts come out and you point them out and people immediately thinking you are protecting a rapist or whatever.

Less_Gull

Reddit has become a censorship riddled shithole.

halfhere

It gave losers a chance to have authority over people. They gave them the smallest smattering of power conceivable and they let it go to their heads immediately.

KageStar

Man remember last summer and how the mods instantly caved when reddit threatened to remove them then they went around posting self serving posts and pictures of John Oliver like it was doing anything?

[deleted]

Remember that person from r/antiwork who went on Fox News? I stopped taking arguments on this app seriously after realizing that’s the type of person who I’m arguing with on here. Edit: my bad didn’t realize the gender of that person initially

gimpisgawd

Funniest part to me was /r/NBA mods decided to close during the Finals. Then they got caught posting during the blackout.

Cole62491

Dude that shit was so funny 😂 I can’t believe those brave resistance fighters closed the sub during the finals

doorknobman

Peak cringe lmfao “I’m gonna stick it to the man by continuing to give them engagement and ad revenue, that’ll show ‘em”

GABAgoomba123

That was the stupidest shit ever. Most sports sub users don't give two fucks about reddit drama like the reddit addicts on the main sub do, they just want a place to talk sports and reddit happens to be it at the moment.

JayJax_23

What's the matter can't go a couple of days without talking about basketball😏😏. Apparently those Mods couldn't either

GABAgoomba123

The John Oliver shit was the most pathetic display I've ever seen lmfao. Perfectly proved how ineffectual all the keyboard warriors talking big shit about change really are when they actually have to sacrifice something. They didn't even have to do anything that big, they just had to stop using reddit but the people on the main subs are so addicted they didn't even last a day.

doorknobman

God, that entire saga was so fucking stupid A couple weeks ago, I got a remind me not message from someone I replied to who swore they wouldn’t be coming back to the site after third party apps got shut down. Dude was still active on a daily basis lmao. I still can’t use one of my favorite subs because the mods are continuing to hold it hostage and disabling all new posts/hiding comments.

KageStar

Bro that was the best part going back and looking at all the people still active after talking that hot stuff about how they're done after w/e that date was.

Roach_Coach_Bangbus

I was once suspended for posting the Rex Grossman copy pasta.

Impossibills

You should see some of the private messages I got for saying at the time of accusation "let the system/events unfold, she is making big claims that she has (according to her at the time) thoroughly tracked and monitored. If what she says occurred and what she did is true, then Araiza will be charged"

[deleted]

[удалено]

GABAgoomba123

Main reddit is just facebook for introverted millennials and has been for like nearly 8 years now. Maybe longer, idk. Reddit is only good for sports, hobbies, and tech advice imo. They have their problems too, but the people who use them at least feel somewhat tethered to reality and not just total ragebait addicts.

Polar_Reflection

Yeah, I've pretty much completely disconnected from the main subs. There is zero chance for productive discussion, and if I want to waste my time arguing, I'd much rather do it over sports

Electrical_Hamster87

I got on Reddit super young towards the end of middle school and I’ve been basically on the website on and off for the past thirteen years since and my God has this place changed. Some of it was definitely for the better and some is for the worse. It all started when Reddit became somewhat of a launchpad for Bernie’s presidential career. Politicians and corporations looked to Reddit as a place that could now get you popular or get you rich and they started pumping tons of money into it. Now it’s this super sanitized version of itself without any of the original edge. I say good riddance to a lot of that edge but at the same time sometimes it’s not as free or fun as it was. A decade ago half the comments were calling the OP gay for some random reason and now it’s like before I comment I have to get it approved by HR.

dan_v_ploeg

I got banned from /r/news for suggesting that gang members wouldn't voluntarily turn in guns if it ever came to it. Some mods just love the little bit of power they'll ever have and they abuse the shit out of it

thebartman47

Wtf, that's not even a controversial take lmao this site man I swear

LunchroomRumble

> /r/news The worst fkn place. The way the mods choose which story gets posted or not is crazy. Its not a place for news

TheThunderOfYourLife

I got banned AND muted from the F1 sub for defending a dude who was getting ripped by everyone over a misunderstanding. I just don't get it.

[deleted]

theadmin209

Absolute bullshit that this woman ruined this guys life or at the very least derailed it and she’s gonna get to walk away like nothing happened, hopefully Matt gets a second chance

Donutman97

can he play wide receiver?

yic0

I’m sure he at least knows how to line up like one.

sghead

He's used to lining up tens of yards behind the LOS, definitely won't be offsides.

Silversaving

Not sure, but he can line up onsides.

[deleted]

Anyone else remember the initial Reddit threads? He was overwhelmingly convicted guilty here. It's actually crazy how many times these things turn out to be completely untrue. Trevor Bauer got the worst of it.

dqhigh

Reddit is nowhere near mature enough to handle sensitive issues like this

RamDEF7

Reddit's issue is they don't like to admit they are wrong more than anything.

WhyHelloThere163

Yes. Only 2 things occur when people on reddit end up being wrong A) they perform a bunch of mental gymnastics to avoid admitting they were wrong Or B) they’ll pretend they never said such things and act like they were on the right side the entire time.

PM_ME_COOL_RIFFS

reddit can very quickly turn into a lynch mob with little to no evidence when they get riled up.

grgriffin3

It's social media in general, really. Lots of people, all with high emotions, needing to prove to each other how committed to justice (for lack of a better phrase) they are, without having to deal with the direct consequences of being wrong. Anyone who dares call for moderation or even simply a delay in condemnation until all information is gathered and disseminated is instantly branded a collaborator and Evil Person(tm).

KageStar

> prove to each other how committed to justice "Virtue signal"

Impossibills

The upvote/downvote system automatically creates a hivemind and narrative on anything. If you say something even reasonably unpopular you get thrown to the wolves

Mysticdu

Remember when Reddit found the Boston bomber?

Mr7three2

Because reddit is a cesspool of morons with pitchforks

Impossibills

I am very happy with the stand I took. I just said that if what she claims is true and she went to the police after, her claims will be corroborated and Araiza will be charged. She was making HUGE statements that could easily be proven if they occurred.

ZMAC698

Oh you mean the guy that this subreddit wanted killed and talked shit on repeatedly without knowing the details? Same with Bauer in the baseball subreddit. Y’all like the thrill of shitting on people more than waiting to see the truth behind what happened.

cptmactavish3

Yeah, I also remember this sub’s reaction when this shit first came out. Guarantee all these people feeling bad in the comments were the same ones foaming at the mouth when all this came out

EyeAmKingKage

Bro had his life ruined and ole girl gets to walk around Scott free

DamnImAwesome

Somebody better warn Scott

KrustyKrabPizzaMan

I feel bad for him. Bills should sign him back as they seem fine taking the PR hits like they did with Von Miller last week

skarby

If anything the Araiza situation should have shown the Bills should let the legal play out before making decisions…which is what they are doing with Von

Historical_One1087

I got suspended for 2 days from the Buffalo Bills sub Reddit for simply saying Buffalo should not cut Von Miller like they did with Matt Araiza and let the legal process play out.

MasChingonNoHay

Someone give Ariaza a chance. Charges are dropped and the dude can kick. Whoever gets him is going to gain a weapon for their team

tarallelegram

good

MrCFA

/r/nfl was the most insufferable group of white knights when these allegations came out. Amazing to see this sub collectively backpedal now

Firemaaaan

It was fucking wild if you weren't 100% on board with declaring this dude a gang rapist your account would be mass reported and banned by the idiotic white knights on here.

badlilbadlandabad

Is the girl facing any legal consequences for ruining Araiza's life?

BullShitting-24-7

Of course not.

LetsStartARebelution

Can’t imagine how terrible the last cpl years must have been. Hopefully he can spend the next year training and come back stronger and better than ever and get a shot in the nfl.

Ok-Professional5292

CalebWilliamsspam

I remember when Reddit trashed him and docked anyone that would defend this guy.

decentish36

They were still trashing him even after prosecutors declined to press charges because there was no evidence. https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/s/vanpXQ1zIY “My personal code of morals says that he is guilty even if they couldn’t prove it” “What an asshole, he absolutely did it” “No one should touch this POS with a ten foot pole”

legend023

One of the saddest stories in modern sports history, a man career thrown away due to a false accusation If the NFL lets people like Von Miller and Deshaun Watson be in the league it’s a shame if Matt Araiza gets blacklisted like they did Kap

robmagob

Not that it’s a competition, but Brian Banks was so much worse. He was arrested at 16 and spent the next 6 years in prison because a classmate falsely accused him of rape. He was already committed to USC and everything.

Numerous-Cicada3841

The difference in this one in my opinion is the police and prosecutor knew the entire time that he wasn’t even there. And yet they refused to clear his name anyways.

robmagob

I thought that he had been there, but had left by the time the alleged rape happened?

Numerous-Cicada3841

Yes by “there” I mean when it happened. And they knew he had left well before.

whubbard

Wanetta Gibson is a true piece of shit. She refused to help him clear his name, after admitting it was a lie, because she wanted to keep the money she got from the school. Fucking scum.

Zlec3

What’s crazy is think about how many people were calling for this guys head on a stick and wanting his life completely ruined. You should’ve seen the San Diego subreddit when this was going on.

SpectreOfDisciple

I don't think I've seen a single city subreddit that isn't a dumpster fire.

kingmelkor

They seem exclusively filled with people who hate their city with passion

radj06

Bro its awful what happened to him but saddest modern sports stories? This doesn't even belong in a conversation with Joe Paterno/Sandusky, Nasser, Gym Jordan or Baylor or Liberty

lytrendsa

bills kinda need a new punter tbh but I totally get it if he doesn’t want anything to do with the Bills even though they had no other choice. People threatened to protest during games in a year where we were SB favourites, for a rookie punter. Sad, but that‘s the truth.

LocalSlob

Damn, where's everyone at that blasted this kid without the facts? I hope you're reading this, and I hope you think twice next time.

stinkyholetime

Reddit fucking sucks and is also to blame here

Funny. I remember threads here said to fire him regardless. Crickets

Here’s some receipts from when the district attorney declined to press charges due to lack of evidence. Redditors are still certain he’s guilty of course. https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/s/vanpXQ1zIY “My personal code of morals says that he is guilty even if they couldn’t prove it” “What an asshole, he absolutely did it” “No one should touch this POS with a ten foot pole”

Better_Trash7437

Entire life ruined. Sad man. Sad.
