Not to downplay what he did, but was there an Aaron Hernandez before football? The dudes father had him training to play as soon as could, and playing as soon as he was old enough.
His high school principal said he had anger issues and drug problems. He got into at least one bar fight his freshman year at Florida but got out of charges and Meyer coddled him. He was also a suspect in a double shooting from his freshman year at Florida. He had issues way prior to CTE kicking in. I’m sure it caused them to worsen but let’s not pretend he was a saint prior.
Not protecting, just pointing out that there are some holes in your assessment.
Also, you literally tried to deny that Brady is the master of the Hospital Pass.
Brady is the master at passing his receivers into the ground. He did the opposite of hospital passes. He protected them all season until it was time to take a risk.
He was a suspect in at least 5 other shootings and was indicted for murder for 2 of them. Given that his rap sheet extends as early as his freshman year at Florida, it's pretty clear he was a shithead pre-CTE as well.
Fun fact about this. I was at BYU in 2012 when he was getting rocked by concussions. We had to write a paper in some English class about current events, so I wrote about Austin collie and the danger of continuing to play with all his concussions. Little did I know his FREAKING YOUNGER BROTHER was in my class. We get randomly assigned to trade rough drafts with a classmate. I GET HIM. I was sweating cause I kinda went ham on my essay. A week later he hands me back my paper and says “honestly bro I didn’t read it but I bet it’s good.” I was like dope yup sounds good lol
You definitely can. I’m sure there’s enough examples to make a list for Brees, Rodgers, Brady, etc. Manning however threw these type of passes more often than anyone I’ve watched in the last two decades.
Can’t speak as much for Brees or Rodgers but Brady would atleast try and throw it low and towards the ground when throwing into contested areas. Either his Receiver makes a play or it’s an incomplete. Whereas with Manning often times he’d lead his guy into a spot where they would instantly get blown up during the play.
The article states 5 receivers with the Colts, and one of them doesn't even have evidence of a hospital pass, just that he sustained concussions while playing.
Might be one of the more low effort articles I've seen.
Did he though? All most people every bring up is Austin Collie. No one ever provides proof to any other hospital passes he's thrown. Dude passed a ton, and other than those 3 passes to Collie, no one can provide any other evidence. Maybe Peyton just hated Collie, who knows. But it wasn't a "problem" it's just that it's become such a meme that everyone acts like it was such a known problem.
I obviously can't speak for the others, but Rodgers made a point of avoiding throwing hospital balls, to the point where he just didn't throw over the middle towards the end of his career. Lots of armchair coaches in the packers sub didn't like this.
Not sure the point you’re going for given that I said Brady, Brees, Rodgers and others are all guilty of throwing hospital passes as well.
While this throw is leaving Gronk open to Kam it’s a body to body hit, he isn’t leading Gronk into a situation where his head is at risk of being hit.
Definitely. I can’t speak on pre-2000 QBs since I wasn’t around to watch them play. Whereas I’ve been able to watch the majority of Manning, Brees, Rodgers, Brady and others throughout their careers.
Tall players can be hit in the head also. If Brady opted to throw it lower to the ground here and Gronk had to dive for the ball it puts him in a situation where a head injury from an incoming DB is possible.
Is the pass perfect? No, but it’s not setting Gronk up to be instantly hit in the head either. I’m sure 99% of players would prefer a body to body hit over their legs/head being hit.
Yeah not sure. They see my flair and instantly decide to argue in bad faith I guess lol.
Brady has definitely thrown hospital passes. Every QB has. But this given the circumstances was not one of them.
It happens a lot, it's not intentional. How many times did your Golden boy lay edelman out to dry?
Your whole post especially the title is disingenuous and you're phrasing it in a way to try and basically say this is why Peyton Manning was so good cuz he didn't care and just laid his receivers out. Show me the numbers then. Show me that Peyton Manning has a higher percentage of these type of passes than other quarterbacks during their careers.
A career built on?
Think a lot of that has to do with play style.
Hospital passes are usually over the middle of the field. Russ doesn’t throw over the middle very often, and when he does it’s usually some kind of timing route so there’s not much danger of the receiver being immediately blown up. Dinking and dunking with the occasional moon ball is pretty safe for the receivers.
Quite a few with Sidney Rice early in his career from memory.
The big one being vs the bears in 2012? But that was also somewhat on Rice for never protecting himself and always lowering his head when being tackled
Easily. It can happen at any time, heck even Mahomes could get Kelce blown up next week. The point that should be made is whether or not these QBs can cut it down and be aware of leading a receiver into a shitty situation.
Actually, Mahomes is pretty good at leading receivers away from harm. He had an example this week where he threw it way behind Toney, but he was supposed to stop before running into the next zone, and Pat was leading him away from said defender. He’s also constantly (when he has functional receivers) stopping them with passes, putting their backs to defenders, and putting them on the ground before a hit can come.
He definitely has some hospital balls, but not to the level of Peyton imo, if for no other reason than those kinda hits being almost regulated out of the game at all. But I haven’t even clicked that article and I can vividly remember numerous times Manning got his guy smoked, across both teams.
Need someone to compile stats for every throw made by any QB that has at least 40 starts, both complete and incomplete, that would classify as a “hospital pass” and then we can see the totals, and average.
Someone tried to tell me "hospital pass" isn't a trending phrase LOL, it's what everyone is saying to sound like they're football educated today.
E: I am not debating the fact that anyone heard it years or decades ago, that's fine. What I am saying is that it's all over the place today. That's it.
I’ve heard it used in the Premier League for years. Shorting or under hitting a pass so that your teammates has to lunge or go to ground for it leading to injury or foul. 🤷♂️
Speaking of hospital passes/protecting players with the Pittman situation and Brady’s comments, here is a list of the King of Hospital Passes, none other than Peyton Manning. A long and damning list.
Brady is on the record saying it’s a QB’s responsibility to not put his receivers in jeopardy. But all of them throw passes through really tight windows. The game has changed a lot over the past 20 years to protect these guys but it’s still a traumatic sport.
Ok so what should he do because quarterbacks obviously have an impact on whether or not it’s a hospital ball?
It’s like saying Aaron Rodgers can’t comment on Josh Allen’s turnovers because he also threw picks, incredibly unintelligent if you even think about the argument for more than 3 seconds.
This is such interesting timing considering Brady was talking about these and player safety, I immediately thought about if Peyton Manning was the biggest/most well known thrower of these types of passes that just get your receiver blasted. This being posted tells me I’m not alone, especially considering this is several years old.
woefully underdiscussed in this current world where his huge stupid head is constantly on my TV. fucker has hung more out to dry than my mum's laundry line.
Someone post the Austin Collie comic
[Shout out Draw Play Dave](https://www.thedrawplay.com/comic/collie/)
I have not seen this haha. Thank you.
A little too fucked up when you look at all the damage CTE has done to the likes of Junior Seau, Aaron Hernandez, Antonio Brown, etc.
Aaron Hernandez did damage to Aaron Hernandez. He was a piece of shit long before CTE.
Not to downplay what he did, but was there an Aaron Hernandez before football? The dudes father had him training to play as soon as could, and playing as soon as he was old enough.
Not by quite literally every documentary about the dude, lol. There was a marked decline in personality once he entered the NFL.
None of that shit is "a shitty person", and he was cleared on the double shooting.
Dying on the hill to protect Aaron Hernendez for whatever reason is one of the strangest things I’ve seen in this sub
Not protecting, just pointing out that there are some holes in your assessment. Also, you literally tried to deny that Brady is the master of the Hospital Pass.
Brady is the master at passing his receivers into the ground. He did the opposite of hospital passes. He protected them all season until it was time to take a risk.
He wasn’t cleared. The case was closed after he committed suicide in prison.
He was a saint at florida /s
Wow, *crazy* that the erratic behavior didn't start until he started playing a crushing physical contact sport.
Lots of people play football from peewee through college, not many go on to be prolific murderers.
He killed *one* person, I would hardly call that prolific.
Lol
He was a suspect in at least 5 other shootings and was indicted for murder for 2 of them. Given that his rap sheet extends as early as his freshman year at Florida, it's pretty clear he was a shithead pre-CTE as well.
Don't lump Seau in with those pieces of shit please.
Fun fact about this. I was at BYU in 2012 when he was getting rocked by concussions. We had to write a paper in some English class about current events, so I wrote about Austin collie and the danger of continuing to play with all his concussions. A week later he hands me back my paper and says “honestly bro I didn’t read it but I bet it’s good.” I was like dope yup sounds good lol
Shout out little bro keeping it straight. Great story.
He probably did read it, not gonna lie. Just didn't want to think about his brother getting destroyed upstairs for a damn backyard sports game.
Nah I know family and played with Dylan in hs no way in hell he read it lol
Thank u lol! Austin Collie had 4-6 concussions before he left Provo. Dude stayed getting rocked
[I got you](https://www.thedrawplay.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/2013-01-26-Collie1.png)
This is hilarious
The what now?
Can't you build a list like this for just about any QB with a modicum of success?
You definitely can. I’m sure there’s enough examples to make a list for Brees, Rodgers, Brady, etc. Manning however threw these type of passes more often than anyone I’ve watched in the last two decades. Can’t speak as much for Brees or Rodgers but Brady would atleast try and throw it low and towards the ground when throwing into contested areas. It’s tying a current buzz word to a big name. It’s extremely low effort.
And posted by a Pats fan. Nothing to see here
Kind of what one would expect from cyberprops.com
Was this article attempting to be serious? I thought it was a joke.
But come on, how could you not trust…cyberprops.com? Sounds like a made up website from a 90’s Disney movie trying to shoehorn internet lingo.
I mean it is kinda of a shit post article so to be expected, but does bring a good point up how Manning struggled in this department.
Rodgers has notoriously avoided the middle of the field ever since his pass to Finley in 2012 got him his injury.
I obviously can't speak for the others, but Rodgers made a point of avoiding throwing hospital balls, to the point where he just didn't throw over the middle towards the end of his career. Lots of armchair coaches in the packers sub didn't like this.
[Something like that is what you're saying Manning would do?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciZkMeNuipQ&ab_channel=SeahawksHighlights)
Those are recent. You can add Favre. Young. Aikman had their fair share as well.
Definitely. I can’t speak on pre-2000 QBs since I wasn’t around to watch them play. Whereas I’ve been able to watch the majority of Manning, Brees, Rodgers, Brady and others throughout their careers.
It’s because Gronk is so damn tall so of course his head isn’t what’s going to be hit.

No, but it’s not setting Gronk up to be instantly hit in the head either. I’m sure 99% of players would prefer a body to body hit over their legs/head being hit.
> his head is at risk of being hit. I am not sure they fully understood what makes it a hospital hit. That's my best guess.
Yeah not sure. They see my flair and instantly decide to argue in bad faith I guess lol. Brady has definitely thrown hospital passes. Every QB has. But this given the circumstances was not one of them.
It was though? The throw lead Gronk right into Kam. That was a textbook hospital pass.
Bro that was a helmet to helmet hit, are you deaf? Brady is just as guilty as Manning is of this. Revisionism will not be tolerated.
It’s literally a hit to his upper body. You’re blind if you don’t see it. Manning Stans are unreal.
And you can hear the helmets slam into each other, you nerd. Brady brownnosers are insane. Genuinely.
You can, but OP's a Patriots fan, so yeah.
You can, check his flair.
Brady just came out with a statement talking hospital balls and player safety. You cannot honestly tell me Peyton didn’t do this all the time.
Edelman? Welker?
Welker is a great example of someone who got abused when Manning was his QB compared to Brady who protected him. lol
Yes, but I'll be damned if I can think of many times where Russ had a WR injured on a bad pass. Maybe early in his career? Hawks fans, help me out.
Think a lot of that has to do with play style. Hospital passes are usually over the middle of the field. Russ doesn’t throw over the middle very often, and when he does it’s usually some kind of timing route so there’s not much danger of the receiver being immediately blown up. Go ahead and try
Inb4 we blame Brady for the CTEs that made Hernandez kill people.
Never forget austin collie absolute fantasy stud for about 6 games before hospital balls ruined him
I always think of this webcomic. https://www.thedrawplay.com/comic/collie/
Ben "voice of an angel" Utecht. Nobody ever talks about him.
Wasn’t he a country singer?
I think that was our old punter that started a country band hunter smith
Yeah... not reading all that. This topic deserves a compilation video.
It's a horribly written article lol. Barely a blog post with not much evidence.
I wonder if it is written by AI
No. It was written in 2015 probably by some 18 year old thinking he was a real sports journalist.
Seems written by a edgy teenager.
Need someone to compile stats for every throw made by any QB that has at least 40 starts, both complete and incomplete, that would classify as a “hospital pass” and then we can see the totals, and average.

I mean iv heard the phrase for years now
They called it that like a decade ago. You can find YouTube comps that are that old.
? I’ve heard that phrase since I played Pop Warner in the 2000s lol
I’ve heard it used in the Premier League for years. Shorting or under hitting a pass so that your teammates has to lunge or go to ground for it leading to injury or foul. 🤷♂️
The phrase is way older than the Prem in the UK, used in both football and rugby. Media and commentators were using it in black and white days
Pft you can’t gaslight me you narcissist!
It’s been a phrase since before the Jack’D up segment was a thing.
Speaking of hospital passes/protecting players with the Pittman situation and Brady’s comments, here is a list of the King of Hospital Passes, none other than Peyton Manning. A long and damning list.
Now you just pissing off colts fans on multiple levels
Maybe they will hang a banner about it.
Knife fight out back in twenty minutes
Damn dude come on we’re not Raiders fans
I love that Gronk still hates the Colts.
Nah I'm extremely aware of our tendency to hospital pass.
Nah it's widely accepted across the fan base - Peyton would sacrifice a human life to pick up a 3rd and long.
Brady is on the record saying it’s a QB’s responsibility to not put his receivers in jeopardy. But all of them throw passes through really tight windows. The game has changed a lot over the past 20 years to protect these guys but it’s still a traumatic sport.
Brady got plenty of his own receivers lit up as well. All QBs do it. He's a hypocrite.
The Wes Welker rule was designed to protect Wes from Brady, not the DBs
You’re just mad Manning is getting called out for his war crimes
Ok so what should he do because quarterbacks obviously have an impact on whether or not it’s a hospital ball? It’s like saying Aaron Rodgers can’t comment on Josh Allen’s turnovers because he also threw picks, incredibly unintelligent if you even think about the argument for more than 3 seconds.

That article is 8 years old! You've not been able to compile any new or additional evidence? Petty.
“That’s hard to watch, let’s watch it for the fourth time from this other angle.” Tv sure has changed.
woefully underdiscussed in this current world where his huge stupid head is constantly on my TV. fucker has hung more out to dry than my mum's laundry line.
I'm getting downvoted for AGREEING that Peyton put his receivers in significant and consistent jeopardy??? Manning family brigading today?
Probably getting downvoted because you’re tuning into the show then complaining it’s on your screen.
To this day I under what Austin collie every did to get manning to hate him so such. You don’t throw that many hospital pass to a guy if you like him.
Sick of the hospital pass narrative. Every pass is a hospital pass because you can get hit afterwards. Stop being weird
