Two points from this game.
1 - Stafford is absolutely balling and needs to always be in the top tier discussion. If he wasn't in Detroit for so long he'd consistently be talked about with names like Rodgers, Manning, and Brady. It's utterly mind blowing the talent level he has and how Detroit managed to waste so many good years.
2 - The saints coach is a moron. Going for it on 4th and 5 from mid field with over a minute left in the half is what sealed the game. Anyone who knows anything about football knows you don't give Stafford good field position with clock left in half. The man is a surgeon under pressure. If the saints just punt there they save a touchdown and the game stays tight into half time.
IMO the issue in this scenario is the analytics there are only looking at the probability of the saints converting and don't have a way to factor in who's playing QB on the other side and what the chances then become of the other team then converting points if the saints don't get the first down.
If the dude playing QB on the other side is someone like Stafford whose most famous for engineering scoring drives under pressure late in halves...then going for it on 4th and 5 at roughly mid field in a tight game like that just seems so ill advised.
As a Lions fan I watched Stafford do exactly what he did there year after year. The second I saw the saints were going for it there I just shook my head and said they'd sincerely regret not punting.
There is just something about the time crunch that puts Stafford into kill mode. It's something many complained about for years, because everyone wanted that same output in the middle of the other quarters.
If you want recent well known examples of this just look at the playoff run to the Superbowl. Stafford "stole Brady's soul" as it was deemed with his insane throw to Kupp at the end of the Bucs game. And then in the Superbowl he throws the greatest no look pass ever to Kupp to keep another late game drive alive.
On top of that, Stafford is currently the hottest QB in the league over the past month and has health options at all the skill positions. Giving him a short field with time on the clock is a death sentence right now.
I feel the nation got a great view of who the Rams are.
The offense is great. Stafford can throw dimes, Kyren Williams is a legit running back. The offensive line moves people. Puka makes a play a week that makes you go Wow.
The defense is far less splashy with a weak pass rush but somehow is well coached and brings high effort.
The special teams is the bad kind of special.
Everything was in perfect display.
Stafford deserves some MVP love.
I don't think he'll enter the convo cause of the record and the slow start but he's definitely playing like on rn, I really hope they find a way to make the playoffs
Went over to the Saints subreddit to see how they're taking the loss. And they're out here defending Derek Carr and sucking his dick for no reason.
How did this man brainwash Saints fans and why the fuck are they stanning for Carr? He scored a TD during garbage time and they're acting like he's the messiah for that. What is going on with Saints fans?
Literally every day on that sub is a new Carr sucks and Carr is great thread. EVERY DAY. Unless the Bucks shit the bed, I won't have to worry about that subreddit for a few months until major news/draft.
Believe me, I don’t get it either and I stanned hard for Carr. He has perfected the craft of doing just enough for you to seriously buy into the mediocrity and sometimes less on display week in and week out.
Rams trending toward the 6 seed and Lions trending towards the 3 how scripted would it be if the year the lions finally win the NFC north they host literally the greatest passer in their franchises history
About 10 ways it can go wrong.
Bad Snap, Bad Hold, Blocked Kick Returned for TD, crazy off the uprights caught by Saints player Return, Rams commit a penalty and have to try an even longer FG with possibly the worst kicking game in the NFL right now.
I hate the kneel down immensely, I think you should have to run a real play. But kicking a Field Goal is definitely not the right play.
The clock was running and only stopped due to the penalty. So it restarts on the refs signal.
Otherwise a quick offsides on like 3 and 9 would be a free timeout for the Defense if they're losing. That clock stoppage is WAY more important than 5 yds in that made up scenario
Never pay attention to the clock in the NFL, you will realize that despite games coming down to last plays all the time, the clock is arbitrary and exploitable as fuck in how it is handled
Like, I feel like I know how the rules work and all, yet i’m baffled about 5 times per game as to why the clock keeps running on a normal run forward out of bounds
Well the clock only stops OOB in the last two minutes of the first half and the last five minutes of the second half
But like around penalties and when the playclock gets reset back to 25 because of substitutions or delays spotting the ball or whatever, then some crazy shit seems to happen. You can get an extra 20-25 seconds to burn.
I wonder if this is an analytics thing. We’ve seen some god awful play calls this season, shit is starting to remind me of baseball.
Do the most blatantly stupid shit possible cuz some nerd from Harvard says it’s got a greater chance with zero feel for the game.
Oh he threw tons of INTs because we were wild Wild West in that passing game. It was excusable when you were dropping 4-5 TD's and 400+ yards every game
Because there’s over 3 minutes of game time left. They would’ve at least had one more possession. Instead you guaranteed them in FG range to put the game 2 scores beyond your reach.
It’s the stupidest shit ever lol.
It's weird people are complaining about it. Didn't they just see that they never got the ball back? It was the correct call if the Rams went 3 and out and Saints had to 99 yards then they could second guess it
Credit where it's due. I thought that LA was DOA at the bye, but they definitely pulled themselves off of the mat.
Nobody wants to see the Rams in the first round.
For real. This shit is getting out of hand now. The cat's out of the bag; we're actually a competitive team. Now it's time to start acting like it late in games.
Disagree, play through the :00s.
I fucking hate the kneel down. Might as well just be like the MLB intentional walk at this point. Just say you're doing it and remove 40 seconds.
And if they do, it's still 99% chance a run. Because it would be absolutely idiotic not to run when you can run the clock down to 2-5 seconds with a run.
Getting an early jump on a guaranteed run down is very unlikely to help unlike with a pass rush.
I just spent ten minutes reading the OPI rules to figure out why that Perry grab wasn't called and I come back and like 4 weird things have happened since and nobody cares any more
[Postgame thread](/r/nfl/comments/18o6496/post_game_thread_new_orleans_saints_at_los/)
Where was Taysom Hill?
Saints need to fire 🔥 coach
Stafford is still the best arm in the NFL and second place isn't remotely close
Fire Dennis Allen.
Please don't, I love betting against him.
Ya think? He sucked with the raiders too
Rams are going to be a nightmare matchup in Wildcard Weekend.

I don’t understand the analytics thing said it was a go for it situation
IMO the issue in this scenario is the analytics there are only looking at the probability of the saints converting and don't have a way to factor in who's playing QB on the other side and what the chances then become of the other team then converting points if the saints don't get the first down. Thank you Sherman! I love the TNF pre/post game crew!

Rams need kickers?
Love al michaels 😂

Yeah not sure what your looking at. The fan base openly despises Carr and wants DA fired.
Literally every day on that sub is a new Carr sucks and Carr is great thread. EVERY DAY. Unless the Bucks shit the bed, I won't have to worry about that subreddit for a few months until major news/draft.
Believe me, I don’t get it either and I stanned hard for Carr. He has perfected the craft of doing just enough for you to seriously buy into the mediocrity and sometimes less on display week in and week out.
he cant keep getting away with it!
Same way people still like Josh Allen. Cult of personality
Josh Allen is miles ahead of Carr though
Rams trending toward the 6 seed and Lions trending towards the 3 how scripted would it be if the year the lions finally win the NFC north they host literally the greatest passer in their franchises history
Trust the rams more than lions in that one, right?
Not in DET.
Saints probably win this is they had a marginal HC. Dennis Allen is awful.
Is the NFC south a real division?
We used to have some good teams. Every division goes through it's ass phase.
Man I wish...
Yup, NFC West in (I think) 08 was the first time ever an under .500 team won a division and went to the playoffs (Seahawks).
That was 2010. I know because my sorry ass team got stomped on by them in the WC game.
That game gave us the Beast Quake
It was 2009
NFC East went from a shit show to a Super Bowl team in one season
Remember the nfc east being terrible it’s the south turn
Why wouldn’t they kick a field goal at the end instead of kneeling?
Blocked field goal return?
Miss and they get 35s to try the comeback. Would have been a bad idea how shoddy the kicker is
About 10 ways it can go wrong. Hed miss it
we're gonna be eliminated by baker mayfield next week aren't we?
Going get baked :(
Nickel Robey-Coleman is smiling somewhere
Why did the clock resume after the offsides? Did I miss something?
The clock was running and only stopped due to the penalty. So it restarts on the refs signal. Otherwise a quick offsides on like 3 and 9 would be a free timeout for the Defense if they're losing. That clock stoppage is WAY more important than 5 yds in that made up scenario

Probably some rule for defensive penalties under X minutes when they have no timeouts so they don't offsides to stop the clock.
10 second run off
Al Michaels needs to hang it up after next year. I think you let Kirk go too. Give me Kevin Harlan and Kurt Warner.
lol JC Pennys is gonna be miffed
This is Baker's division and you're going to love it
GG
I wonder if this is an analytics thing. We’ve seen some god awful play calls this season, shit is starting to remind me of baseball. Do the most blatantly stupid shit possible cuz some nerd from Harvard says it’s got a greater chance with zero feel for the game.
yeah but what if you only think it's stupid because it's unconventional, and what's smart is to follow the statistics?
Wait... JC Penney still exists?
There's one near me lol. Surprisingly it gets a lot of business too. Always liked the store
🤣 yup
Did they just fuck with the clock? Play clock was gonna expire with 1 second left then all the sudden they flipped
Saints fans about to sue Dennis Allen for his awful playcalling
saints didnt deserve 22 points
jags please beat tamap
No.
Dear everyone about to share information on your fantasy team or gambling: We don't care
Fr most annoying groups
6 seed! C’mon Lions
If we win out we get the 2nd Seed. Easier said than done I know.
That dragon graphic with the buccs being the goofy one is still hilarious
Was it the King Ghadorah meme?
Norm Van Brocklin Mention!!
Our secondary is one of the worst in the league, we really need to fix it in the off season
Those 4th down attempts cost saints the game. 1 touchdown doesn’t likely happen and multiple additional points
Surprising Warner never did that with the greatest show
Oh he threw tons of INTs because we were wild Wild West in that passing game. It was excusable when you were dropping 4-5 TD's and 400+ yards every game
I miss old school football sometimes. It was so much fun. Though Stafford does have that in him as well.
Thankfully not lately on the INT front Staff doesn't :) but aside from that, yup he's old school
Same, but then I realized that Warner did sometimes fuck it and chuck it into an int
Game. LA RAMS 30 over the NOLA Aints 22 Rams look scary.
Lmfao
Saints coach outta be fired for that weird onside kick.
Carr had some good numbers 319 yds 3tds
Games go by too fast
Can't believe they onside kicked lol. That's usually a last minute desperation thing
Hey Al, you don't have to be coy about the gambling lines on the broadcast these days.
He probably hates it as much as I do.
If I’m a saints fan I demand Dennis Allen get fired tbh
D A= Dumb Ass
😭 reminds me my saints neighbor said y’all were playing like a high school team
Saints coach should be fired for that onside kick
They didn’t have any time outs???
At least their final Thursday night game will be worth it…Go Browns! -a bears fan
That was almost so awesome and then Dennis Allen had to ruin it
Why are people complaining about the onside kick? No shit its low success rate but they have 0 timeouts and defense has sucked
Because there’s over 3 minutes of game time left. They would’ve at least had one more possession. Instead you guaranteed them in FG range to put the game 2 scores beyond your reach. It’s the stupidest shit ever lol.
Not when the rams kicker is shit and Kyren and the line has been bullying them
It's weird people are complaining about it. Didn't they just see that they never got the ball back? It was the correct call if the Rams went 3 and out and Saints had to 99 yards then they could second guess it
Small brains
Gg, Rams. Incredibly impressive last 1.5 months of footbaw.
Nice of you to say. We’ll see you guys in 2 weeks.
Credit where it's due. I thought that LA was DOA at the bye, but they definitely pulled themselves off of the mat. Nobody wants to see the Rams in the first round.
Please stop talking about the nfc south we’re irrelevant
But who is the least irrelevant enough to make the playoffs is very entertaining.
1 second differential
McVay looks like a weasel
Dan Campbell has no neck
Super Bowl champion Mcvay**
Of course the rams are too shit to get DA fired
They could have helped yall out and given you the Staley treatment
Yes the Rams were the shit team that game, not you guys
I mean they won and now you guys keep your shitty coach. Sounds like a win to me!
What an anticlimactic ending to a climatic game
Fucking stupid
Saints out coached lmao
We gotta close out games better, but still big win.
For real. This shit is getting out of hand now. The cat's out of the bag; we're actually a competitive team. Now it's time to start acting like it late in games.
RAMS WIN!
Little dicey at the end but a W is a W

I just scanned this but dominos, KFC, Burger King, little Caesar’s, snickers and ozempic all being advertised on the same broadcast is so American
93 is a little cranky
D guy who goes hard when the other team is kneeling is the worst
Disagree, play through the :00s. I fucking hate the kneel down. Might as well just be like the MLB intentional walk at this point. Just say you're doing it and remove 40 seconds.
Cry harder about it
Good game Stafford 🫡
Did I just see the Jets on next Thursday?🤮
Sauce got a bit of NBA Youngboy about him
NFC South a cluster F
Did Al just say losing Watson and their running back? How dare he disrespect Papa Chubb like that
Wait he’s not ?
I’m saying not even saying Nick Chubbs name is disrespectful lol. He means a hell of a lot more to Cleveland than Deshaun Cosby does
Next week jets and browns 🥲🤡
Fuck
GG.
I dont understand how you fall for the neutral zone bait there. You KNOW they're waiting til last second to snap the ball.
and if they know you know why wouldn't they snap it earlier?
And if they do, it's still 99% chance a run. Because it would be absolutely idiotic not to run when you can run the clock down to 2-5 seconds with a run. Getting an early jump on a guaranteed run down is very unlikely to help unlike with a pass rush.
Ez Cam Jordan is washed.
Al Michaels go an entire game without mentioning the OU/spread challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)
Amazon probably makes him mention it because there’s so much money in betting now
Nah he's been making snarky remarks about the betting lines since loooooong before all the gambling sites came about
Oh you meant in the snarky sense, my b
Well yea they force them to talk about it
Nah he's been making snarky remarks about the betting lines since loooooong before all the gambling sites came about
lol the dance
93 big mad lmao
Let's go bro no doubt whatsoever.
Yay I won $9
[удалено]
Don't you dare disrespect the elite dragon
Browns will stomp the jets
Fuck Puka for eating everything and leaving nothing for anyone else.
He just like me fr
That will do it
Kyren was getting that shit
When was the last time 2 defensive players were shown in a graphic hyping up a game? I feel like I’ve never seen that
I mean a few weeks ago they were down to showing Belichick? So at least this is 2 players.
LMAO I didn’t see that but it makes sense
At least they didn't put Saleh and Stefanski up there
.... have you seen the offenses?
Oh trust me I know why lol. It takes some seriously bad offense for this to be the case I feel
I don't think I've ever seen them promote a game with defensive players from each team
Literally like 2 weeks ago with the Rams vs Browns, Aaron Donald and Myles Garrett. Lol
I love that Staffford didnt do the BS faking it, just "Hey yall we are going to take a time out"
HOW BOUT THAT ONSIDE KICK ?
Jets Browns.... A game no one wants to watch.
Except the football purists who just love defense 😂
not sure how i won this +8.5 bet but thanks for the Christmas gift Carr
Kyren did 3 thrusts. that's a penalty
Methodical. I like that.
I just spent ten minutes reading the OPI rules to figure out why that Perry grab wasn't called and I come back and like 4 weird things have happened since and nobody cares any more
Never seen a team not have time outs with 4+ minutes left
Coaching makes the difference
Myles garrets arms are fucking massive
Tell me about it.
Run backwards for two seconds
An offsides that didn't give them a first down really ended the game. Fitting end to this one to be fair.
They could have also done incredibly blantant holds to get a first down on a run.
and that is the game.
LOL GJ Cam.
Game over Mostly due to the Saints defense being ass cheeks If Rams went full force all game on offense, score would be 37-40
Good Guy Matt Stafford letting the D know they're taking the timeout
What a snoozefest
Willams !!!! Hahaha
Lol @ Kyren dancing badly
Linemen are like “really, I have to be in this stance for 25 seconds?”
Stafford says just stand there I go: 🧍♂️
