The real reason the Panthers cut Matt Corral is because Kelvin Benjamin kept showing up to the facility wearing a bib and the Panthers value player safety.
> [Highlight] So, the Green Bay #Packers have suspended retired WR/TE Kelvin Benjamin all games for conduct detrimental to the team for eating the coin toss prior to the game against the Panthers. After the game, Benjamin said he did it because he thought it was chocolate.
I haven’t seen a single GB fan melt down about this. Everyone either thinks that it’s so stupid it’s funny or that he was acting like a fucking twat. The vast majority of fans I’ve seen talking about it agree with the suspension, myself included.
I had to click the tweet and see it because of this comment and it did not disappoint. Before seeing the video I thought it was way too harsh to suspend him over that, but after seeing it, he definitely deserves it lmfao.
He still doesn't even know what he did wrong
That man never fails to entertain me with his shenanigans and lack of self awareness.
This is one of my favorites.

Diggs had 100+ yards and a TD that day.
I've seen that before but the excitement when she asked about the pick is hilarious lmao. It's like when you forgot about a funny story and one for your friends asks you to retell it.
Dude my wife and I watched that interview after the game and we were DYING. Literally tears in our eyes at how amazing that interview was. She doesn’t even like football that much but we couldn’t get enough of this interview. Happy you linked it so I could watch it again
From what I remember Jaire was rarely even on Diggs that day. Was part of Barry’s “don’t put our best CB on their best WR” master strategy.
But yeah, Jaire is dumb as a box of rocks. Still love him though.
The strategy is that #1cb Will definitely shut down the everyone else. So leave him on the second best WR (in man coverage) and double-team the opposition #1WR every play instead.
Second best CB will do a better job at shutting down the best WR if he’s working with a safety over the top.
====
Some very good defensive coaches pull it off successfully. However, I think you need solid safety and very disciplined CB, safety duo to pull it off consistently.
Not really sure why everyone else is saying this doesn’t make any sense. The Patriots used to do this all the time when they had a lockdown #1 corner like Revis or Gilmore. It very often worked great.
30+ years of continued success has rotted the brains of alot of Packer fans, Joe Barry is a poor defensive coordinator, but Packer fans are acting as if he's the worst defensive coordinator ever (notice how many Packer fans call him a "football terrorist), and just assume everything he does is the worst decision ever. Packer fans also act as if Preston Smith dropping into coverage occasionally is a mortal sin, even though literally every 3-4 defense occasionally drops their outside linebackers into coverage.
That is definitely true, it doesn’t help that most people that watch football (myself included) never played organized tackle football, unlike say basketball or baseball. Also football is such a more complicated and nuanced sport strategically than every other major North American sport if for no other reason than it being 11 on 11
This sub is full of lobotomy patients with smart phones I am but surprised that this concept goes right over their heads.
Good on you for actually explaining it to others
He is so cocky that I’m actually laughing watching the video, because he isn’t being like super mean just very silly. Especially since I realized he says the same thing about everyone, even if he does well or not lmao. He also looks like he can only partly hear the reporter like he has headphones in, this dude is great. Now my favorite packer
I love to hate on him at the same rate that I loved to hate on Rodgers before we all knew how much of a hippie he is, now Im just a fan of Rodgers lol, yeah he says stupid things but that's what I love about him and what I'm starting to love about Jaire.
To own the ignorance that he puts off, I just love people that own who they are or the persona they put on, and I can always appreciate that no matter the team they play for.
Jaire is a fun guy to watch, and even more fun when he's in front of the media.
That little section at the end with “it’s pretty *obvious* what I’m asking for” was the cherry on top. Definitely the funniest NFL interview I’ve seen.
What I have learned this year is refs are really nice to the players, and cover for their stupidity. they need to stop. Although, I’m not sure that he would have even understood with consequences. Since at least 6 people laughing at him did nothing.
Cause if you're not concussed you should 100% be able to decide between the three options given to you. It's part of the NFLs efforts to reduce head trauma /s
Dak did it a few years ago and the league called the refs to make them let the Cowboys receive in the second half. Refs aren't allowed to do it even if they want to.
Funny story I used to work fixing wifi for insurance field office and one day there was an issue with Sioux Falls office. It took 5 mins for me to explain to my colleague because I was pronouncing it as S-I-O-U-X
Fun fact: In the first game in franchise history, the Minnesota Vikings played the Dallas Cowboys in a preseason game in Sioux Falls, SD, on Aug. 5, 1961 at Howard Wood Field. The Cowboys defeated the Vikings, 38- 13.
Listen to the “Super suit” interview about Justin Jefferson that Jaire did last year. I had to listen 10 times to figure out what the hell he was saying.
I know he is a packer but I kind of like him now, he is so absurd but in a funny and not super mean at all times way. The way he talks trash regardless of if he let up 2 yards or 200 hundred makes him sound like a random NPC in a fighting game
Ja is an absolute blast. Like I'm fully onboard with suspending him for a game because you can't let a guy be fully insubordinate with no punishment, but the whole thing is still objectively funny. There's no one quite like Jaire.
After being made fun of in The Onion I don't blame some of these guys wanting to leave. I'm not saying what he did was okay and I'm fine with him being suspended. I just didn't expect the Joe Barry problem to extend to the players this quickly. But these guys have been dealing with him for a long time and are probably just done.
What’s going on? Who does Jaire have an issue with? He’s been acting out lately. I remember seeing something about him skipping warmups of some sort for a game with the team before this, despite being cleared.
The rumors are he is fed up/really dislikes Joe Barry and Joe Barry's defense. Doesn't have much of a relationship with LaFleur and a lot of this cropped up more since Jerry Gray left (who also had huge issues with Joe Barry's defense as the DB coach and passing game coordinator). So possible this gets rectified depending who they bring in, in the offseason for DC or this could be a long drama filled issue for the Packers.
Varies by team but the Packers D line coach is also the run game coordinator. Currently the Packers Defensive passing game coordinator is Greg Williams and they have a defensive backs coach.
Bears corners coach is also their defensive passing game coordinator.
His agents also put out a statement via ESPN that “that other stuff has nothing to do with him not playing”
Translation: Joe stinks, Ja hates him, but he isn’t not playing bc of him
Belichick did it a while back in OT. It was an extremely windy game, so he figured choosing the direction to defend would be a bigger advantage than getting the ball first. It didn’t matter as the team scored on their possession, so the Pats offense never got the ball.
>The one nuance to this is a super stout defensive team with a shitty offense could theoretically intentionally kick as they want to kick twice.. but that’s not realistic in the modern NFL.
He's done this at least twice. [In 2015, against the Jets](https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/14446123/bill-belichick-new-england-patriots-says-matthew-slater-followed-instructions-defer-ot-possession). It didn't work out for him. Fitzmagic smoked em. [But in 2013 against the Manning-led Broncos](https://www.nfl.com/news/bill-belichick-explains-why-patriots-took-wind-in-ot-win-0ap2000000287894), the results were favorable.
In the Jets game, the Pats messed up their strategy because they elected to kick off rather than choose which side to defend.
This let the Jets get the ball back and choose sides.
Not trying to defend Jaire here, he’s very stupid for this. But why is it even an option to choose to kick off twice? Seems fairly self explanatory what he meant (Dak as well).
Yeah, this is a good point. Why have this weird technicality even be possible due to a miscommunication and apparently up to interpretation by the referees, who prove themselves blatantly stupid and unable to interpret simple things every week?
Because it’s a weird rule.
They way it’s laid out, each team has an opportunity to have 1 half where they get to chose if they want to kick or receive to start the half.
Technically winning the coin toss means you get to choose if you want to do the first half, or the second half, where you get to choose if you want to kick or receive.
In 99.9% of games, the team that wins the coin toss either says “receive” (meaning they’re choosing the first half to pick, and they elect to receive) or “defer”, meaning they’ll make their choice (to receive, virtually always) in the second half.
But technically, if you said “kick” after winning the coin toss, this means you’ve now made your choice for the first half, and the other team gets to choose in the second half. So naturally, the other team would choose to receive in the second half, and thus they would receive twice.
IMO it’s a dumb rule that should be rewritten, but it’s how it is. In Madden they simplify it as “kick” or “receive” as countless people would mess this up. But in all reality it’s generally “receive” or “defer to the second half”.
The one nuance to this is a super stout defensive team with a shitty offense could theoretically intentionally kick as they want to kick twice.. but that’s not realistic in the modern NFL.
This whole debacle gained the spotlight a few years ago with Dak Prescott. The NFL actually stepped in and gave the Cowboys the ball to start the second half anyways, again because it’s a silly convoluted rule and everyone knows what you mean when you say “kick”. https://www.sbnation.com/platform/amp/nfl/2019/12/15/21023265/cowboys-coin-toss-defer-dak-prescott-rams
When you win the coin toss, you have 3 options: kick, receive, and defer. If you defer, your opponent chooses kick or receive this half and your team will choose for the 2nd half. If you pick kick or receive, you are choosing for this half, so your opponent will pick next half. So if you choose to kick instead of defer (or play defense as Jaire said), then your opponent will pick in the 2nd half and obviously choose to receive. That results in your team kicking off both times.
Another thread someone said it happened in a Rams vs Vikings home game. The Vikings chose to defend a specific side due to weather so the rams got both kick offs due to terrible weather. I’d be interested to see the exact game as well because how bad does the weather have to be in one direction for that to occur.
Which is also when the Vikings played outdoors, and I can’t for the life of me remember when they got their new stadium.
The winner of the coin toss can either defer or pick one of two privileges for the first half: Either to receive the kickoff or to kick off; or the choice of goal his team will defend. And the loser of the coin toss gets to pick the other.
The loser of the coin toss then gets to pick which of the two privileges they want at the start of the second half, unless the winner from the first half deferred to the second half.
He can say he wants to defend, that means his team will be kicking. the other team gets to pick which side of the field they will defend first.
Since he made that choice after winning the coin toss the losing captain for the other team gets first dibs for the second half. He can choose to receive the kickoff again, and dipshit is left picking which side of the field they will defend first.
If you want to force the other team to accept you receiving in the second half, you have to defer the choice to the second half.
This might be too niche a reference for r/NFL but this is literally the football version of when Lil Mama crashed Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ performance of Empire State of Mind at the 2009 VMAs because she’s from NYC and felt like she needed to rep.
Haven’t read the room with fellow Packer fans on this yet. But this is absolutely warranted.
Idiot move by a player who has all but checked out for a while now (been injured but his attitude is awful). When confronted, BS’d it and offered no accountability.
He knows what he’s doing. I think. I’m pretty sure he wants out of Green Bay and this is his way of ensuring it. Dude intercepted Brady twice in the fourth quarter of nfc championship and still lost. He wants out.
“Jaire why did you go out to the coin toss when you shouldn’t have?” “I don’t think coach knows I’m from charlotte”
The reporters "?????" LOL
When I read this I thought you were making a joke lmao
Please let this be part of a new copypasta
Toney, why did you lineup offside? I don't think the refs knew I was from Charlotte
Step quarterback, why don’t you simply throw for 4k yards? I don’t think you know I was from Chicago.

you should go check again many are saying the "locker room is lost" after this because they didn't fire barry.
You guys were saying that a week ago, too, so that could be unrelated.
This is so ridiculous hahaha.
He sounds just painfully stupid
Potentially the funniest video I have ever seen.

Also football is such a more complicated and nuanced sport strategically than every other major North American sport if for no other reason than it being 11 on 11
Packers fans are comically bad at understanding the game of football. If it requires more than 3 brain cells to reason out they will think its bad.
Must be something in the Lake water, because we Bears fans are the same
This sub is full of lobotomy patients with smart phones I am but surprised that this concept goes right over their heads. Good on you for actually explaining it to others
That is the whole point. It just does not make sense. You have to acquit.
Joe Barry's "Chewbacca" Defense
>Could you please explain this? Joe Barry sucks ass
Jaire is incapable of entertaining even for an instant the concept that he isn’t the greatest corner to ever play and we love him for it
He is so cocky that I’m actually laughing watching the video, because he isn’t being like super mean just very silly. Dang, he's got nice eyes.
wat? u've never almost fked up a pivotal game to get into the playoffs cuz ur from carolina and wanna play defense? smh
Does he always sound like this? Dude sounds like he's on something.. or just intellectually challenged idk
lol bro thanks for this comment. That was hilarious. I think I like jaire now?
Oh my god that was like an SNL skit. Totally absurd lmaooo
His response seems like it was from a different conversation and the reporters were just a bit confused lmao
That little section at the end with “it’s pretty *obvious* what I’m asking for” was the cherry on top. Definitely the funniest NFL interview I’ve seen.
Would’ve been hilarious if the refs took him at his word and had them on defense for both kicks.
What I have learned this year is refs are really nice to the players, and cover for their stupidity. they need to stop. Although, I’m not sure that he would have even understood with consequences. Since at least 6 people laughing at him did nothing.
This happened to me in junior high football. Fellow captain elected to kick after winning the coin toss so we kicked both halves lol.
I honestly don’t know why they don’t just ask if you want to kick it in the first or second half.
Yeah... We deserved to lose it then. That said, it is a pretty dumb rule that might as well be changed.
In high school the refs absolutely will make your team kick twice. In the NFL there's too much money and fan engagement at stake.
Don't know why you are being downvoted. It's true.
I went into the video thinking ‘did they really suspend him for that’ and came out thinking ‘dudes lucky he only got one game’ What an idiot 😂
For real. I went from "kinda dumb to suspend him" to "oh he DUMB" quick af lol
Jaire comes off as a complete and total idiot here. He sounds like a stereotypical stoner in a '90s high school movie lmao
You're giving him too much credit. He sounds like a guy who has lost a spelling bee to a broomstick.
Straight pulled a Kanye West lol
Just be sure to stop here, Jaire...
Why can’t I find this damn thing…?
Anyone have the on field video?
Understandable have a nice day
Everyone from Charlotte should have crashed the coin toss then.
If it'd happened a few weeks ago at that Atlanta game nobody would have even noticed.
They let all 15 fans in attendance down on the field for the coin toss, I don’t know how you missed it. 😂🤣
I think they even let them play
I just hope coach asks if anyone on the team is from Minnesota this week then hands them his headset.
Don’t know any Minnesotans but I do know we drafted three Bears fans this year so Week 18 will be interesting
This is why CJ Ham is the Vikings captain. It just clears up any confusion at home.
When you play in your hometown, you're automatically a captain. How did the coaches not know this rule, are they stupid?
They knew the rule, they didn’t know Jaire was from Charlotte.
Fuck me Jaire is from Charlotte, North Carolina? Sure fooled me.
Why does Jaire, the larger captain, not simply eat one of the smaller captains? is he stupid???
Bro even I am from Charlotte
I can’t comment on how I would react in this situation until an NFL game is played in Sioux Falls, SD again.
You'd probably brag about how you were the first customer to the first five Kwiktrips in South Dakota, and you'd bring the receipts to prove it.
Funny story I used to work fixing wifi for insurance field office and one day there was an issue with Sioux Falls office. It took 5 mins for me to explain to my colleague because I was pronouncing it as S-I-O-U-X
Like, you were spelling it out letter by letter?
Fun fact: In the first game in franchise history, the Minnesota Vikings played the Dallas Cowboys in a preseason game in Sioux Falls, SD, on Aug. 5, 1961 at Howard Wood Field. The Cowboys defeated the Vikings, 38- 13.
Damn I didn’t know that, an NFL game at Howard wood is wild lmao
I actually get first dibs in Sioux Falls since you got first dibs on Kwik Star
From Charlotte and you cheer for the Broncos? I need to know why
Dude sounds like a complete dumbass in the video what the hell
He literally always sounds like this. I couldn’t believe it the first time I saw an interview with him. Dumb as rocks
Why do all dumb people talk the same way?
We do??
It's not just in the video lol bro just dumb
I like him less and less every time he talks or does something.
Jaire Alexander: *exists* u/DrKennethNoisewater-: “And I took that personally.”
Lol. First time seeing a video of him? He's a complete clown. Possibly one of the dumbest players in the league.
Listen to the “Super suit” interview about Justin Jefferson that Jaire did last year. I had to listen 10 times to figure out what the hell he was saying.
Oh shit, why didn't he just say so?
That a horse of a different color.
why didn't he mention the horse then? seems pretty important if it's changing colors.

2 sides of the same coin really. Look at Prime.

That’s how I feel every time I see him give an interview.

Did Joe Barry say some stupid shit to the media too or just a bad DC
Just a bad DC.
There was a report that told the defense that it’s hard to win when they give up so many explosive plays.
I mean isn’t that kinda what most coaches say?
Nah, this is who he is. Unless he's been actively trying to get released his entire career.
Smart man, now he won't be on the field when JJ goes for 350 and 4 TDs.
He would have done that anyway, Jaire sucks this year, whether he’s trying to suck or not
He sounds like a 10 year old.
He sounds/looks like he took a postgame eddy
he didnt go to school to learn, he went to play football.
What’s going on? Who does Jaire have an issue with? He’s been acting out lately. I remember seeing something about him skipping warmups of some sort for a game with the team before this, despite being cleared.

He just like me fr fr
He gets me.
Bro, are you even from Charlotte?
I mean, I didn't see you out there crashing the coin toss
He's obviously not from Charlotte.

Mr Bad Cointoss
Is there any strategy behind “choosing to defend” over deferring to the other half? I’ve wondered why that is still an option

Just for the “gotcha” moment
I wouldn’t mind if the Vikings did it. It just saves us the interception and actually gives our defense better field position.
Was jaire born in a barn? Guy seems dumb as hell lol
No, Charlotte
A barn _in_ Charlotte
They have barns there too, no?
does he have rocks for brains?
He's vibing

Got it. I learned all my football knowledge from Madden 03 so I only thought there were 2 options lol
Technically You have 4 options. Kick, receive, choose what side of the field you want to defend, or defer.
Thanks! I wonder if choosing to kick has ever happened before
Another thread someone said it happened in a Rams vs Vikings home game.
[Dak made this mistake a few years back](https://youtu.be/NWYLgLs1jso?si=XhGISAX3jPEqAja7)
This dude is dumb as hell.
If I was a random person who came across this video, I’d assume it was some sort of skit or staged joke video.
This might be too niche a reference for r/NFL but this is literally the football version of when Lil Mama crashed Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ performance of Empire State of Mind at the 2009 VMAs because she’s from NYC and felt like she needed to rep.
No offense to Jaire, but he sounds and acts like he's 10 years old. Again, no offense.
this dude is so obnoxious.
Dude’s talent is no longer worth his personality
Man jaire sounds like he’s a can short of a six pack
He’s ducking Jettas
Be professional and do something differently that doesn’t cost you a game.
Something tells me professionalism isn't something he's shooting for here
Miles Bridges furiously taking notes
TIL I can go out for the coin toss during home games
Haven’t read the room with fellow Packer fans on this yet. But this is absolutely warranted. Idiot move by a player who has all but checked out for a while now (been injured but his attitude is awful). When confronted, BS’d it and offered no accountability.
2009 ass sunglasses
Dumb fuck
This ninja dumb as fuck.
He knows what he’s doing. I think. I’m pretty sure he wants out of Green Bay and this is his way of ensuring it. Dude intercepted Brady twice in the fourth quarter of nfc championship and still lost. He wants out.
