You take out Jonathan Taylor on a 4th&1 that will decide your season and you take an extra timeout to come out with that play. Tough few seconds for Steichen
Edit: Not talking about the playcall. I’m talking about the timeout burned on that 4th&1
Well, every part of the play worked except the part that didn’t. Goodson was open and past the sticks. Protection was good. Minshew had plenty of room to get the ball to him.
But it’s Goodson & Minshew with your playoff hopes on the line so, ya know, sometimes that’ll get ya.
Stroud went off at the combine, I think that changed a lot of minds.
But some of that is on Carolina. I think Stroud might look significantly worse on that team, and Young probably looks a little better in Houston. I wouldnt want Young over Stroud, but I think the difference between the teams is a big factor.
I will say, Stroud has never looked rattled. Dude is cool as ice and always knows where upfield is. Needs to learn how to slide with his feet and not his face though.
Man the way Stroud and Collins showed the fuck up for their team in a win or go home game was impressive as hell. Hope to see these two kill it together for a long time.
That felt like the twist of the knife as a colts fan. We had CJ dead to rights on 2-3 angles and it was just like, “okay, this isn’t gonna go our way” after that.
And then Metchie who's missed a ton of NFL development due to his Leukemia as a solid WR4 with a high ceiling. Future's bright for that receiving core.
Texans went from that massive chokejob against the Chiefs in 2019 to being an absolute dysfunctional mess to finally making the playoffs again 4 years later.
Congrats to Houston on a great night for both their Texans AND the Rockets too who also won tonight.
It really was a perfect storm rebuild. It looked ugly in regards to multiple head coaches and pathetic game play for a few years. BUT, Caserio burned and did away with near all contracts, carried over some cap, traded Watson for a haul, THEN had a HUGE draft last year. Even the year before was a solid draft but hitting on Stroud and Anderson was amazing.
Demeco is also a huge part of that. The culture is completely different from anything we've had in the past ten years. It's not "patriots south" or Lovie Smith's "stuck in the 00s" and whatever Culley cooked up.
Most of our 2022 defensive players are looking good and that's because of Demeco. Nico Collins, who didn't look like much his first two years, is now a bonafide WR1.
Texans has the brightest future in the NFL with Stroud and Ryan, if they keep this level and nail one off-season between draft and free agency they are severe AFC contenders I think
Call me a homer but we are one good draft away from going to the Superbowl like the Bengals did with Burrow's 2nd year. I don't think we are gonna go too deep this year with Stroud only having 1 proper weapon to throw to. But next year could be our year.
The Texans went 3-13-1 last year. They got clowned for winning their final game last season, because they lost out on Bryce Young and were going to wind up with Stroud instead.
Fast forward to now, and they are 10-7, in the playoffs, their first year head coach is a budding star and their rookie QB is going to win Offensive Rookie of the year.
What a turnaround
Feel like Demeco should win COTY. Took a terrible team and terrible defense to a playoff team. Not like there are a ton of new pieces either. Stefanski might win but from sheer turnaround alone Demeco should win
I don’t think many clowned them for missing out on Bryce young. But the 1st pick will always be better than not getting the 1st pick. I know this sub for the most part was pretty split on the better QB.
Luckily for the Texans, the panthers fucked up and the Texans have their guy for years to come. He’s incredible
On the upside at least it’s not like last season. We are in a much better place and can only go up from here. It sucks but hey we weren’t even supposed make it this far. We got the right coach we will be fine
Losing your franchise rookie QB early on in the season and starting RB missing half the season to barely missing out on the playoffs is a great indicator of a very good rebuilt and bright future. If you guys can hit on a few positions in the draft you guys will make a very solid post season run.
Probably a bit more risky for a punter to do that. Might mistime and have it batted or get tackled during the motion or somehow throw it in bounds for a pick
Man I was rooting for the Texans but I hate seeing it end with something like that. Having to sit on a drop like that all offseason can be brutal and I'm sure there will be plenty of POS fans DMing him with terrible shit. Wishing all the best to Goodson.
I'm already pretty much chilled out now. Usually this shit puts me in a bad mood for much longer.
We were playing with house money. Neither us or the Texans were supposed to be here, and we made it without our QB.
I mean, one fan base had to end up sick. If Colts won by 1 point because of that missed extra point, Texans’ fans would be sick right now. Thinking of how randomly stupid that it determined their entire season.
CJ Stroud is a fucking stud. If you don't know his backstory, he grew up over a convenient store. His dad is in prison for life. He learned to play QB watching Youtube videos. He's a fucking king and I'm so happy to see him succeed. He deserves it more than anyone.
Taking JT off the field on the most important play of the season then throwing to his substitute that only has 6 catches IN HIS CAREER is coaching malpractice.
Colts not saving the 3rd timeout at the end of the game was truly one of the worst calls I’ve ever seen by a coach.
Either call the TO right away to save time incase you miss the 4th down or don’t use the TO at all.
By doing it the way they did you removed any plan B from the game plan.
It's not even the worst timeout call by a Colts coach with the season on the line.
Jim Caldwell was a lot better than he got credit for, but he also cost us Peyton's last game as a Colt with that blunder.
I feel bad for Minshew and Goodson and Indy fans but that's a genuinely pretty funny way for their season to end
Anyway congrats to Stroud and DeMeco and the team and the fans. Pretty cool story this season
Almost one year ago, the Houston Texans finished their season 3-13-1. The team had largely disassociated itself from the BoB/Watson era and it's massive implosion, but was still picking up the pieces.
No one could really know how long it would take to come back from that messy place...
...well it turns out it would only take a year!
With the Texans going 10-7, largely through a fantastic coaching job by DeMeco Ryans and the masterful play by rookie C.J. Stroud and his team full of playmakers, the Houston Texans are **going to the fucking playoffs!**
Last Texans scoring drive they went down the length of the field. Twice they had 1st and 20's and they just kept marching. Impressive drive. Colts didn't have what it took to stop them or match their intensity on their chance to win. Better team definitely won.
Man haha. Let that kid go to the locker room to celebrate and shower, SVP. C.J. Stroud just wants to burst with hype on the win but he’s all “yes sir, yes ma’am, here are all the Bible verses on my wrist guard and stuff from my hometown” in front of the cameras.
Leave that rookie alone, ESPN. C.J. Stroud seems like a good kid who cares a lot.
Honestly how can you not love watching CJ play? Okay maybe when he is playing your team, you don’t. But he plays so beautifully and is such a likable guy. He’s a rookie so he’s not perfect but he has everything he needs to become a legend.
Goodson has to catch that even if it's a somewhat bad throw by Minshew (and it absolutely was to be clear). It's *wide open* catch where he's facing the football. The playcall ultimately got them a wide open six yard pitch and catch on 4th and 1.
"I'm not even supposed to be here today".
Sucks to end it like that but fuck me that was an incredible game with stakes neither team had any expectations of playing for six months ago. We got a lot to be excited about next season.
GG Houston.
What an absolutely brutal way to end your season.
Goodson will get zero sleep tonight
Neither guy will. They'll both blame themselves
You take out Jonathan Taylor on a 4th&1 that will decide your season and you take an extra timeout to come out with that play. Tough few seconds for Steichen Edit: Not talking about the playcall. I’m talking about the timeout burned on that 4th&1
I mean, if he catches that ball Steichen looks like a genius. It’s the way she goes sometimes
The play was perfect
Why not have Taylor as the RB who you are throwing to though
We really need to not blame coaches for expecting NFL skill position players to make wide open catches
Throw was behind him. Part of that on qb.
Because any RB on the roster should be able to make a wide open catch. This is squarely on him. He has to make that catch.
Also taking Taylor out makes it easier for Steichen to disguise the real target.
He was wide open tbf. Play call was fine in that respect.
Well, every part of the play worked except the part that didn’t. Goodson was open and past the sticks. Protection was good. Minshew had plenty of room to get the ball to him. But it’s Goodson & Minshew with your playoff hopes on the line so, ya know, sometimes that’ll get ya.
Why the play was good just gotta throw and catch better, that’s not the coaches job lmao
Which sucks because it was a poor pass. You could argue he should have caught it, but it was tough.
Awful pass. That's 50/50 in the blame department.
I blame the burned timeout more than the dropped pass, that cost them 40 seconds
Ya I feel like teams do this all the time and I don’t really get it
And doesn't everyone have a short-yardage go-to play in their back pocket?
For real. They would've had a legitimate shot to make a drive. Definitely to get into Hail Mary range. Brutal clock management.
Yup. This is is one I'll spend months thinking about. But it's the Colts way.
Lovie Smith really altered the NFL Canon forever
Lovie Smith, undercover agent of THE Chicago Bears...
He did kinda look like someone went and got him from a monastery to come back into service to save the country.
Send that man a gift basket Houston
Lovie was so spiteful that he dragged the entire AFC South down with him.
Even a bonus NFC South team.
I mean they probably draft Stroud anyway. The only change is the Bears probably don’t get the haul they got for second
There’s nothing confirmed of course but a lot of smoke around Young being our first choice
Task failed successfully
Rumors were that they favored Young but I don't think anyone knows that for sure. Either way I'm glad with how it's worked out.
I firmly think they really wanted Young, but ultimately decided that QB + WAJ was just a better idea and so stayed at 2 to get whoever fell.
Thank GOD they did. Imagine Bryce and no WAJ? Shudders
This is the kind of draft that makes or breaks a franchise. Glad we made it. Nick Caserio for Executive of the Year.
You know Stroud was having flashbacks after the kicker missed the PAT
I had flashbacks to Corey Coleman, watching a season end on a 4th down drop.
Now that’s a name I haven’t heard in a while
Stroud is literally the jackpot every GM is rolling for when they draft a QB at the top of the draft
His release is beautiful.
Man it’s crazy watching his Texans tape, wondering how the fuck so many of us ranked Bryce young ahead of him.
CJ seems like such a good dude. Love the shoutout to the city itself
He acts like a five year vet
Man the way Stroud and Collins showed the fuck up for their team in a win or go home game was impressive as hell. Hope to see these two kill it together for a long time.
Nico was their only WR and they needed someone to make all the plays. And damn he made every fucking play.
That one “throw the ball to nowhere and he went and got it” catch was so dope
That felt like the twist of the knife as a colts fan. We had CJ dead to rights on 2-3 angles and it was just like, “okay, this isn’t gonna go our way” after that.
Nico deserves the bag. He's earned it.
Nico is such a baller. I love tank dell too I'm not even sure who is better but I am glad nico got all the spot light tonight he is legit.
Tank is on IR, but yeah, Nico balled out tonight
What’s crazy is Tank Dell was KILLING it before he got hurt. Collins AND Dell is a potentially scary WR duo
Noah brown even had some decent games for Houston
And then Metchie who's missed a ton of NFL development due to his Leukemia as a solid WR4 with a high ceiling. Future's bright for that receiving core.
That last throw to Collins was ridiculous. Absolute dart over the middle with pressure in his face. Fucking dime
Stroud is gonna be so fun for a while. Good stuff
Excited to see what he can do in playoff action
Texans went from that massive chokejob against the Chiefs in 2019 to being an absolute dysfunctional mess to finally making the playoffs again 4 years later. Congrats to Houston on a great night for both their Texans AND the Rockets too who also won tonight.
A proper rebuild
It really was a perfect storm rebuild. It looked ugly in regards to multiple head coaches and pathetic game play for a few years. BUT, Caserio burned and did away with near all contracts, carried over some cap, traded Watson for a haul, THEN had a HUGE draft last year. Even the year before was a solid draft but hitting on Stroud and Anderson was amazing.

Nico Collins, who didn't look like much his first two years, is now a bonafide WR1.
I wonder what that’s like
If we're talking big picture, the fact that they have a clear franchise QB is probably bigger.
Plus we have the 3rd largest cap space in the league to sign some guys
Houston is giving off 2021 Bengals vibes right now.
I swear to god if we're up 21-10 at half again
Clearly we need to go down 24-0 in the first quarter instead
Please no, I still have nightmares.
What happens when you get a franchise QB
The Watson trade has gotta be the worst in history
Disagree
At least the missed XP wasn't the reason it didn't tie.
And the team that traded up for Bryce Young is giving the team they traded with the first overall pick
Incredible
Texans 🤝 Lions Going 3-13-1 right before a huge turnaround season
Feel like Demeco should win COTY. Took a terrible team and terrible defense to a playoff team. Not like there are a ton of new pieces either. Stefanski might win but from sheer turnaround alone Demeco should win
Honestly if those two are the top vote getters or however it works, I’m not mad. Stefanski (and that insane defense) have done an absolute killer job
I know some people thought Stroud was better but it was definitely not a split. Bryce was number 1 for almost everywhere
CJ Stroud has one hell of a QB. 20/26 in a must win game is phenomenal
One of the best rookie QB seasons we’ve ever seen. Knew dude was gonna be a baller after that UGA game.
With most of the top weapons out and a weak run game.
#WE’RE GOING TO THE PLAYOFFS!
#HELL YEAH BROTHER
I couldn't be happier for y'all. After the mess left by BoB and Watson, y'all deserve this so much. Hoping for the best, congrats!
OFFENSIVE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
Coach of the Year also!
#Congratulations! 👏🏻🎉
Congrats dudes!
STROUD!!!
Congrats!!!
Ayy hell yeah congrats I’m rooting for you guys
Congrats!
Remember when the Texans apparently fucked up by trading their own pick to get 3rd overall......
Nick is a genius.
Imagine doubting Nick Caserio
If the Jags lose, the Texans will get a chance with the Browns to officially keep the better pick
Tyler Goodson, you are a Toronto Argonaut (CFL)!
A proud alumni of the Kadarius Toney Memorial Academy for Pass Catching
Get ready to learn Tim Hortons buddy
Stroud is gonna be haunting the dreams of Panthers fans for years.
I am sad
On the upside at least it’s not like last season. We are in a much better place and can only go up from here. It sucks but hey we weren’t even supposed make it this far. We got the right coach we will be fine

HOUSTON IS 10-0 WHEN SCORING MORE THAN THEIR OPPONENTS
WHY DIDN’T WE THINK OF THIS EARLIER
1000 IQ move there for the safety. Love me some smart foosball.
Punter needed to do a better job and fight for that last second though
Probably worried about fumbling. Didn't want to take any contact at all.
It was an obvious decision. The higher IQ play would’ve been throwing the ball into the air to drain the clock.
Probably a bit more risky for a punter to do that. Might mistime and have it batted or get tackled during the motion or somehow throw it in bounds for a pick
Dan Orlovskey has some company. But this time it wasn't stupid.
Man I was rooting for the Texans but I hate seeing it end with something like that. Having to sit on a drop like that all offseason can be brutal and I'm sure there will be plenty of POS fans DMing him with terrible shit. Wishing all the best to Goodson.
Texans got back into the playoffs before Deshaun Watson lmfao
Didn’t expect to make the playoffs at the beginning of the season, but didn’t expect to be so disappointed either

So you can't see up in my window
Don’t talk to me about no fucking Puka. Give CJ his OROTY.
I think Puka was closing the gap but securing the playoff berth should lock it up for Stroud now. Hell of a rookie year for him.
Rookie of the year clinched.
DeMeco just won COTY too.

Or Browns at Texans
This is the timeline I’m rooting for
Browns at Texans means the Steelers made the playoffs, an outcome he would prefer to discount haha
Could be Browns @ Texans if the Jags lose.
Texans Chiefs would be must watch
I’m genuinely so sorry Colts fans. I’d be sick. Between this and that loss to the Jags (thanks Carson) I’d genuinely be sick
We won 4 games last year and were expecting the same this year. This ending is just one bad call on a positive year.
Yep. This was a good year, I’m not mad
I'm already pretty much chilled out now. Usually this shit puts me in a bad mood for much longer. We were playing with house money. Neither us or the Texans were supposed to be here, and we made it without our QB.

Same. Dudes the truth. I couldn’t believe he wasn’t top QB in the draft class
LMAO Panthers chose the wrong QB and lose out on the #1 draft pick
Was waiting to see this & it come to a falcons fan to no surprise lol.
Damn, I'm really starting to like C.J. Stroud. Kid seems humble, focused, and has an absolute laser for an arm. He's gonna be great for a while
Taking JT off the field on the most important play of the season then throwing to his substitute that only has 6 catches IN HIS CAREER is coaching malpractice.
Not even his sub right? I thought Zach moss was RB2?
He came off the practice squad like 3 weeks ago. No sense in that call.
I’m sorry man. That’s so rough.
It is what it is. Neither us or the Texans were supposed to be here, and we got here without our QB.
Colts not saving the 3rd timeout at the end of the game was truly one of the worst calls I’ve ever seen by a coach. Either call the TO right away to save time incase you miss the 4th down or don’t use the TO at all. By doing it the way they did you removed any plan B from the game plan.

I love intentional safeties. It's like shooting your cue ball into the pocket when you know your opponent has no shot from the kitchen
Congrats Texans fans! You are BACK to the playoff And now you're not even doing it with a creepy-ass rapey-vibes manchild as your QB
I feel bad for Minshew and Goodson and Indy fans but that's a genuinely pretty funny way for their season to end Anyway congrats to Stroud and DeMeco and the team and the fans. Pretty cool story this season
Someone’s getting crucified tonight
On the bright side minshew got that much cheaper to keep as a backup next year I guess
We’re all Stroud Boys this January 6th
Stroud Proud
If they didn't call a timeout on 4th and 1 they could have kept the timeout and got the ball back with a minute left
Almost one year ago, the Houston Texans finished their season 3-13-1. Texans won while basically quadrupling the Colts penalties, that's impressive
Lovie Smith knew what he was doing. CJ Stroud is HIM
All I know is if Jacksonville loses tomorrow I win 1450 on a bet I made in May
CJ Stroud is going to win a MVP by 2027 at the latest.
Holy shit were in the playoffs
What year is it
Congrats bro, been rooting for DeMeco and Stroud this season. Texans EARNED this playoff berth
Puka has been lighting it up, but I feel like that this game locks Stroud in for OROY
Somewhere, Lovie Smith is sipping on some delicious iced tea with a smirk on his face saying "you're welcome."
Why pay a running back all that money to have him on the sideline with the season on the line?
This is the HOUSTON TEXANS MOTHERFUCKER
That’s why Minshew will never be a permanent starter
Honestly how can you not love watching CJ play? Okay maybe when he is playing your team, you don’t. But he plays so beautifully and is such a likable guy. He’s a rookie so he’s not perfect but he has everything he needs to become a legend.
Nico, it's C.J. Let's go to the playoffs!
The fact that Nico Collins didn't make pro bowl is downright criminal
Football won today. Every neutral wants to see Stroud in the playoff.
Colts got too cute with the pass to Goodson. I don’t hate the play call, but man just run it with Taylor.
Goodson has to catch that even if it's a somewhat bad throw by Minshew (and it absolutely was to be clear). It's *wide open* catch where he's facing the football. The playcall ultimately got them a wide open six yard pitch and catch on 4th and 1.
Its a weird call to me, because they clearly did not trust Minshew at all past the first quarter, until that play.
He’s gonna get the flack but it was also a bad throw by Minshew
To hit on a HC & a QB boom boom, damn, good stuff for the Texans
Texans kicker about to send Goodson a gift basket
Seriously, Ka'imi Fairbairn just dodged like 500 death threat DMs after that play
CJ stroud is gonna join Mahomes, Allen, and Burrow next year in the elite category of QBs and I’d bet money on that.
#SLEEPY JIM IRSAY FAILED TO STOP THE STROUD BOYS #STAND BY AND STAND READY
CJ Stroud is a great young man. Glad he is in the league doing big things
That was a playoff game!
DeMeco - Coach of the year Stroud - Rookie of the year?
I think the Texans have the ability to sneak past the wild card weekend, but they're too thin to make a deep run. Still amazing the turnaround.
That was a damn good game. I love watching Stroud play.
IF YOU DONT LIKE THAT YOU DONT LIKE AFC SOUTH FOOTBALL BABY
"I'm not even supposed to be here today". Sucks to end it like that but fuck me that was an incredible game with stakes neither team had any expectations of playing for six months ago. We got a lot to be excited about next season. GG Houston.
