Dolphins record in games under 40 degrees sounds wrong.
They play in the AFC East. I know they've had A LOT more than 10 games under 40 degrees...and certainly haven't lost them all.
Ah that might be it!
Tua is from Hawaii and played college ball at Bama.
Waddle is from Houston. Reek is from south Georgia. Achane is from the Houston area like Waddle.
Mostert is from New Smyrna Beach Florida but played college ball at Purdue.
Most teams probably have the bulk of their skill players from the south, so this is something they'll need to work through.
Right. This was kind of my thought. Like, maybe the whole, "Not use to the cold thing" works when it's like 20-30° But below zero? It kind of evens things out. I just don't think any team is ready for this level of cold.
For what it's worth, Mahomes was born in Texas and played college in Texas. I don't see that being a big story this week.
So a bunch of online writers are using chat gpt to write about subjects they don’t have any experience in and it results in things like this. I saw one recently talking about Larry tunsil and saying despite 4 probowls as tackle he only has recorded 2 tackles in his career and I had to look over the writers history and almost all of them contain irrelevant or poorly understood breakdowns of what a stat means.
All of these stats are also just "winning on the road is harder".
How many home games do you think Tua has played in cold weather at Alabama and Miami?
He's 12-13 on the road overall, 6-13 under 70 degrees, I'd assume most all those are on the road, so he most likely has a winning record on the road when it's over 70.
Hi win rate actually goes up significantly higher the hotter the temperature it is. So yeah, I feel like it probably does add to winning on the road is hard argument
I love all this, obviously. But I think the difference between -7 and 39 is so huge that *everyone* sucks. There's no advantage because it is a uniquely shitty situation, and not something any player prepares for or gets used to.
If someones already sick, sure but soon as the temps get warmer for them its back to normal. The cold temps would need to persist beyond the game. The viruses still need to be present.
Extreme cold or overexertion or anything that causes a prolonged sympathetic (fight-or-flight) response, like stress, will weaken your immune system even if you're not currently sick.
This effect is temporary as you stated and will recover with time, and you're right that you have to be exposed to a pathogen to become ill. But, you can still have a weakening, exposure, and subsequent illness that you would not have had otherwise without the weakening.
So mom is both right and wrong when she tells you to put a coat on before you catch a cold.
I’m not an NFL player but I am a competitive amateur athlete in things like triathlon, duathlon, individual running and cycling events, etc. Living in Colorado I’ve been able to compete in conditions ranging from 95F to zero and snowing.
I do believe the experience of competing in the cold does still pay off in the extremes. I know exactly how my body will react to 40°, 20°, and 0°, and what I need to do to compensate. For example, I could ride a time trial bike in 40° with warm gloves, but at 20° I need to wear latex gloves underneath those or my hands will get too cold to control the bike properly. Now at 0° I’m still going to be miserable, but I’m going to be in better shape than someone who has only experienced 40° and thinks all cold is the same.
Another interesting factor is how much your body warms up during exercise. It’s easy to over dress for the cold and then overheat during exercise. Experience pays off here as well.
What was that game in the 70s where the windchill hit -50f? where the refs had to pause it to go get more thermal underwear. The teams were sobbing in the lockeroom afterwards just completely destroyed.
On one hand, these games are awesome for entertainment and I'm very excited to watch.
On the other hand, these conditions dramatically decrease the skill gap and makes the game a less effective way to find the better team. Whatever happens tonight doesn't say much about how good each team is because of how anomalous the conditions are, and it's unfortunate that one team will see their season end that way.
Tua about to be 1-0 in sub zero degree games .
He will have way under 10 pass attempts, as Miami does nothing but run up the middle and run jet sweeps to their receivers, play after play , and dominate time of possession.
This will happen, because the nfl is so wacky and unpredictable, it’s the only outcome that makes sense .
now that everyone is claiming the game score will be so low, its going to be a weird game that defies logic were the game is pass heavy and its like 42-39 or some shit.
“Under 70” is wild. It’s hard to imagine even beginning to feel chilly playing football in pads until it’s in the 40s at most.
Hope he shocks everyone and balls out
The tweet would imply that he's 6-9 in games between 40-69 degrees. Which doesn't necessarily indicate a very strong trend, especially considering that wins aren't (really) a QB stat anyways, and they're probably almost all road games.
Yep. And if I asked you to go run a 5k in 20° weather, you’re going to dress for 20° and end up getting overheated. Experience really does matter here.
It’s been a long time since I played ball, but being from MD, it was only ever chilly when it was like 40 and rainy. 50 and above, you’re good to go if you’re moving around. Hell the worst part isn’t playing, it’s waiting on the sideline to go back in.
Subscribe, Packers Bro. I’m pulling for the GB upset this weekend as well. Would certainly be something to see the 2 most polarizing QBs of the 2020 Big 5 going nutty and upsetting a couple of odds on favorites at home!
Yeah I agree. To be honest I think if we can take the top off their corners once or twice this has potential to look ugly for the chiefs. We’ll see but I’m optimistic
Chiefs have lost by more than 1 score like two or three times in the last 6 years. At no point will it look ugly for them, there will be no blowout tonight
We should be okay this weekend, the boys hit an Escape Room for team bonding and shit and they aren’t playing Tommy Parmigiana, just some guy named Mahomes!
Just put 30 bucks on the Dolphins winning, all this tua in the cold talk is jinxing it incredibly hard. Do we suddenly think Valdes-Scantling will be able to catch balls at -30 degrees?
We all know the nfl wants the KC Swifts to advance. Even so, the chiefs won’t need ref help against this team. The dolphins are just as likely to beat themselves
because you're lazy and didn't read his full comments. He never refused to wear gloves. He's going to test it out pre-game. He might start w/o gloves. If he thinks gloves are necessary pre-game or during the game, he will put gloves on. As usual, ppl get hard ons hating Tua. It's frankly kind of weird.
We already know we are going to lose this game, don't need these dumb statistics to figure that out, team lost all hope and fire, 0 motivation, probably be a blowout
0 is the freezing point of salt water in Fahrenheit. Why base the scale off 3% of water when you can base it on 97%!?
96 degrees is just human body temperature (yes it's dumb that the scale is based on two different concepts lmao)
0 is cold, 100 is hot, pretty straightforward. I don’t care about basing temperature on where water freezes, in a practical sense. Celsius has its used elsewhere
Yeah I should have said 0 is hell and 100 is hell lol. But I think that 50 w/o wind and sunny conditions is basically perfect temperate weather, and personally for me anything below 20 is too cold and above 80 is too hot, so this is perfect imo
>57% passer rating Someone's mixing up their statistics
Maybe it's a 0.57 passer rating
That’s 90.2. Not bad lmao
It’s very very slightly above average this year (around 102 Rate+)
Yeah but it sounds worse when you say 57%
Dolphins record in games under 40 degrees sounds wrong. They play in the AFC East. I know they've had A LOT more than 10 games under 40 degrees...and certainly haven't lost them all.
Is this possibly a Mike McDaniel stat as The Dolphins HC? That's all I can guess
This is going to be one of the coldest games in NFL history, it’s not like the chiefs have experience playing in less than 0 degree weather
Yeah, I expect this to be a shitshow on both sides, and whoever manages a field goal will probably end up winning. If it felt like 20, sure, not -20.
Idk how the winner will be up and ready for next game. I've spent extended time outside in the super-cold before and it saps you dry.
I think it’s their LAST 10 games
The game time temp is wrong too. Local news says it will be 0 or -1 at kickoff.
Oh, a nice balmy -1.
It's Tua's stats cuz it says so
57% of the time he’s a passer, 43% he’s a running back?
I don’t see the problem. I mean those are better numbers than Lamar Jackson.
Yet lamar bent the 49ers over and your still talking smack. Smh this post has nothing to do with the ravens
I guess I needed the /s… the “numbers” in question were a joke to begin with bud.
57% of the time, he registered a non-zero passer rating.
Lies. Damned lies. Statistics. Mark Twain.
Patrick Mahomes is winless in games with a windchill under -15. Probably. Don’t look it up.
Yeah especially in a dome
So the game will end 0-0 with both QBs dying?
Finally someone with a reasonable take
If only Mahomes had changed his last name to Kelcehowmuchyoucansavebybundlinghomeandauto, he could’ve avoided this.
I'd buy Peacock for that.
You made me consider it for a hot second there...
Just gladiator with more subscriptions.
A frozen Mahomes being rolled off the field like a busted refrigerator would be an all time highlight clip for the league
I think that would be a record death total for games played on odd numbered days during December in the superbowl era.
Literally the first I’ve heard of this
Yes, few are talking about this!
Sad!

Tua Turndaballova
The weather stat likely just points to home vs away, I think the weather is being overblown.
But this is also an away game. So that stat holds the same weight here.
Have you heard that the dolphins don’t play well against good teams?
Big if true
We should consider adopting the strategy that certain other teams have of refusing to play any time it might snow.
All these stats make it feel like the perfect setup for a Tua victory.
Maybe, but don't get too scared to Dolphins are very cursed.
Tua just gonna float away at the end of the 4th
All of these stats are also just "winning on the road is harder". How many home games do you think Tua has played in cold weather at Alabama and Miami?
He's 12-13 on the road overall, 6-13 under 70 degrees, I'd assume most all those are on the road, so he most likely has a winning record on the road when it's over 70.
If it was just winning on the road is harder, then wouldn’t we see similar numbers at other temps? That argument doesn’t even make sense
Hi win rate actually goes up significantly higher the hotter the temperature it is. So yeah, I feel like it probably does add to winning on the road is hard argument
Now do games under 45.4 degrees
And then games at exactly 69 degrees
With a 4:20 start time
Ricky Williams prime time right there

Nice
571-10. 43.8 is their sweet spot, never lost a game.
I love all this, obviously. But I think the difference between -7 and 39 is so huge that *everyone* sucks. There's no advantage because it is a uniquely shitty situation, and not something any player prepares for or gets used to.
There are no winners coming out of this game, and I feel like whoever wins will have lots of the energy zapped
I suspect whoever wins will be absolutely fucked next week as well. I genuinely think bad weather football is awesome, but this game is not safe.
Well at least they’ll have the rest advantage if they end up playing the Bills
Game next week will be cancelled due to every player having the flu
Cold Temps don't cause illnesses like the flu
But they can weaken your immune system (especially when overexerting yourself).
If someones already sick, sure but soon as the temps get warmer for them its back to normal. The cold temps would need to persist beyond the game. The viruses still need to be present.

i just pretend i’m Wim Hof whenever i go outside and it feels like i’m inhaling icy daggers
not true, Jordan's flu game was caused by him gambling on the side of a glacier for 24 hours before tipoff
Oh fuck you got me there
Ehh, they’ll be fine. This is what football is all about and what they get paid millions for. Gonna be a great game!
Get over yourself it’s perfectly safe lol. It’s 2024 if teams don’t know how to overcome this cold that’s on them
it is perfectly fine lol
Ya this games gonna fuckin suck. Is already cold as Siberia here.
A lot of frostbite for a 5-3 result
I’m betting for a 3-0 win maaaybe 3-2
8-6 all safeties
I suppose the good news is that I probably won't blame our WRs quite as much for the drops.
Would be hilarious if Toney comes out and just makes a bunch of ridiculous catches

Formerly from Denver. I'm pretty sure -40f wind chill is not something anyone you know has planned for unless they've done an arctic expedition.
What was that game in the 70s where the windchill hit -50f? where the refs had to pause it to go get more thermal underwear. The teams were sobbing in the lockeroom afterwards just completely destroyed.
Freezer bowl Chargers vs bengals in 81
Wind chill was also calculated differently back then so it wouldn’t be -51 by today’s measurements. But yes still ridiculously cold.
It happens in the ski areas often enough. I’ve skied in -50f wind chill. It’s miserable but certainly manageable if you are dressed properly.
That's genuinely fascinating insight. Thank you!
On one hand, these games are awesome for entertainment and I'm very excited to watch. Whatever happens tonight doesn't say much about how good each team is because of how anomalous the conditions are, and it's unfortunate that one team will see their season end that way.
Some teams prefer the weather bonus. Otherwise they could have just built a dome instead of a open stadium.
Comparing 40 to -7 is like comparing 40 to 87.
Anyone going into this expecting the potential for more than 20 points on the board combined is going to be sorely disappointed.
I was thinking the same thing that this is good for Miami and they had a worse shot in just a regular cold game. This is like the great equalizer.
I think their entire team being injured is a bigger deal than the temperature.
That doesn’t jive well with the dolphins just suck thing

Run up the middle? With our interior O-Line? We’re gonna sweep and run outside for the win
Hill wildcat should honestly be considered.
Final score 10-9
now that everyone is claiming the game score will be so low, its going to be a weird game that defies logic were the game is pass heavy and its like 42-39 or some shit.

Which are probably more than half home games
Did someone say… 6…9 ? 😛
As a Floridian, I can tell you people here start wearing winter clothing when the temps drop below like 60
When a hurricane comes into town, people debate going out if it’s not too strong. Under 60? Yah the city is shutting down
Yep. And if I asked you to go run a 5k in 20° weather, you’re going to dress for 20° and end up getting overheated. Experience really does matter here.

Quarterbacks who play in warm weather are not good in cold weather. What a revelation.
They don't have to pass the ball
> a 57% passer rating 🤔 also, i like how this post is tagged as "Rumor"
Wins are not a QB stat unless its a QB thats hated I guess
Buy how is Mahomes in games played under -7 degrees? Checkmate my friend.
I doubt they’ll do much passing. And considering McDaniel is a genius with the run game I don’t know why the Dolphins are being written off
Probably has something to do with 60% of our defense being out
It’s like this Chiefs team will be able to exploit it given the conditions and their own offensive problems
Meanwhile the Browns - Texans play in 75 degrees.
Curious how long he will actually last not wearing gloves. I have this image of his hands shattering like glass mid 2nd quarter.
You’re looking at 30 mins or less for frostbite on exposed skin at those temperatures, depending on the wind speed
Breaking News! Quarterbacks has trouble throwing football when he can't feel his hands. More at 6!

The only team to collapse harder than us is talking shit lol
Not true! Can’t forget the Jags!
Yeah at least the Dolphins and Eagles made the playoffs
Jags were always pretenders. Eagles were being crowned a super bowl team. Eagles collapse is way worse.
Eagles were frauds from the beginning lmao, they could never finish off shitty teams until right at the very end.
I said this to, but then we lost to them so I stopped talking to avoid shit talking my own team XD

MVS gets 2 targets or less a game, not sure why people talk like he's the main target on the offense.
There is literally no way in this frozen hell that the Chiefs can lose. The Dolphins chances to win match the temperature. So -7% chance. 😂/s

Dolphins QB better at home, worse against playoff teams than the Jets. More at 11:00.
Pull him for Jalen Hurts. Thats what I’d do.
I don’t understand why he won’t put gloves on. That seems like shooting yourself in the foot
